  1. Dragonmaster, It is WILL NOT, not WON'T. On a side note, does BTW still do their chants? Would love for someone to tell me the words to the one that contains "baby in the high chair". It is hilarious. Good luck to all.
  2. You able to get the game on the internet? I can not get the Ashland City station to stream tonight? Keep the scores coming.
  3. Shawn Marion is having a very good NBA career. What has happened to the Delk twins who played at Jackson Northside and Mississippi State? Also Xavier Webb (Hansbro?) who prepped at West Carroll and played very little while at Ole Miss?
  4. The difference in this game was (again) Waverly's inability to handle the full court press. CC's cold shooting in the first half (aided with the absence of Beach) prevented the Cubs from setting up their press after a made basket. Once CC made some baskets, it was all over for the Tigers. I would like to see a shot chart from the second half. I am guessing that Waverly attempted very few shots due to the turnovers created by CC's defense.
  5. I read these same type posts every year. I think what people need to consider, and I am sure the coaches do when they vote, is who is the best player in the District? If it is a pick up game, who would you pick first? A player on a team who finishes fifth in the district (West/SC) should not receive any favortism over a player (Newton/Harpeth) who plays on a squad which wins the district. If anything, the benefit should be given to the player coming from the better team. Why? Because the better teams generally have more contributors to their success than a good player on a lessor team, which may constantly use their "go to guy". Most teams have their individual team awards at the conclusion of the season. That is the time when the respective teams can choose who was most valuable to their own team. A few years ago the MVP was shared by Harpeth's Shane Dansby and MC's Brandon Burney. Maybe the coaches will see fit to have co-MVP's as well this year.
  6. Very well written post krichunaka. I know none of the players you mentioned and very little about the teams. But it still brought a tear to my eyes. We wish her the best with her knee but rest assured this young lady will go far in life.
  7. If that happens, which as you said is unlikely, CC would still get the 3rd seed by virtue of their win over a higher seeded team (Harpeth). I believe the best Waverly could do would be a coin flip for 4th seed if the Tigerettes beat CC and CW, and Sycamore losses to Harpeth. That would leave both Sycamore and Waverly with 8-6 district records with sweeps over Fairview and SC, being swept by Harpeth, and splits with the other teams in the district. Now if Waverly only wins one game against CC or CW, they will finish with an identical 7-7 record as MC. IF Waverly beats only Creekwood AND CC beats beats Fairview (as expected) then Waverly is looking at the 6th seed. This is because MC will have beaten a higher seeded team in CC, which the Lady Cubs would become the 2nd seed. IF Wavo only beats CC, then MC and Waverly will have identical records against all the other district teams and a coin flip will be required to determine the 5th seed. Bottom line, Waverly needs to win both of their games to assure themselves of the best seeding possible. The Tigerettes have been playing well lately. They will play two well prepared teams in CW and CC that have plenty to play for as well.
  8. He is doing good but is not even leading his own team in scoring, let alone the Big 10. Adam Haluska averages over 20 ppg for the Hawkeyes.
  9. A family member mailed me a newspaper article on Tyler Smith which was printed in the Waterloo Daily Courier on January 18th. The article was quite complimentary. He is one of only 3 freshmen in the history of U. of Iowa basketball to average more than 15 ppg. Coach Steve Alford had quoted in the article that he gave much more than just points and rebounds. He said he was on pace to rank in the top 5 for all time Hawkeye freshmen in assists, steals and 3 point shooting percentage. Alford also said he had the best basketball IQ of any player on his roster. The article also said he had a 5 1/2 month old son who remains home in Tennessee. So, yes it seems like he is doing well.
  10. Waverly beat Fairview tonight in a good game. Fairview jumped out to a big lead hitting 6 3-pointers in the first quarter. Waverly fought back throughout the game and tied the game late in the 3rd period. The game see-sawed back and forth till Waverly pulled ahead in the final minutes of the game. Alex Green had 27 points and a boatload of rebounds. The win could easily leave MC, Fairview, and Waverly in a 3 way tie for 6th. Coaches Bledsoe, Young, and Rawlings may need to start practicing on calling coin flips. Seventh and eighth place will face the impossible task of playing Harpeth and Sycamore. The sixth seed will at least have a chance to compete against the 3rd seed.
  11. Stewart County beat Waverly tonight by the score of 65-37. West unofficially had 19 points, 15 of them in the 3rd quarter.
  12. Waverly Central beat Montgomery Central tonight 63-51. Alex Green had a big all around game for the Tigers.
  13. Just the opposite. Loose rims are a shooters best friend. Those in and outs would have clanged off the rim had the game been held in SC. I've read posts about how hard it is to shoot in SC's gym. A lot of that is due to the firmness of their double rims.
  14. Creek Wood cruised by Stewart County 40-31. CW outscored the Rebs 12-0 in the 3rd Quarter.
  15. This will be a very difficult matchup for Waverly. The basis for this is simply in comparing scores and the competition each has played throughout the year. Losing to Goodpasture and JPII is certainly not a disgrace. CPA has built a very strong athletic program in their short existence. The quantity of CPA's coaches and the quality of their athletes will not allow them to overlook this game. I am curious as to how many of CPA's starters play both ways?? Hopefully a 5-2A follower can respond. As a Waverly fan, I hope that the Tigers give their best effort. In our losses to Lewis County and Camden, we fell behind too far and too quick to make it a competitive ballgame. I am not sure of the reasons for that but hopefully the coaching staff and players have found an answer. I do know that the Waverly community is extremely pleased with the progress that the football program has taken in the past two years. It will only get better. OnlineLC, that was a nice post. CPA is a class act. I have followed your school since its' inception as some of your former players and their families were connected to my family. Do rest assured that any "bravado" coming from Tiger posters is not from the players and coaches.
  16. A few comments. Waverly played an excellent game last night on Senior night. All the Seniors should be commended for their dedication in helping put the Tiger football team back to their winning tradition. The offensive line (no Seniors) were as dominant tonight as they have been all year. Keep working hard! Luke Anderson did a fine job tonight at quarterback. He brings a lot of athleticism to the position. Luke can play nearly anywhere on the field and if his body were as big as his heart, he could play in the line too. The defense, under Coach Cash, continues to be the strength of the team. Now, the bad part last night?? THE PENALTIES!!! The Tennessean's box score had the Tigers penalized 10 times for 100 yards. It seemed like a lot more. And how many positive yards were lost because of the plays being called back? Way too many. Good luck next week @ Loretto. It is a long ride (thanks T$$AA) and Loretto did play Adamsville to a 7-0 game last night. They have nothing to lose so you better be ready. Now, concerning the comments about Stewart County keeping their starters in the game. Somewhat mixed feelings on that. I am glad, from a Waverly standpoint, that the Tiger reserves had a chance to play against S.C.'s best. It will only give them a better feel for what it takes to compete at the Varsity level as they prepare for their chance in later years. Sure, the final score was not indicative of the game but the players and coaches involved know who the dominant team was last night. And for the Waverly JV players, they need to step up. I could be wrong but it appeared some of those same Rebel starters you faced were the same players you played against a few weeks ago in a JV contest. I don't remember the final score, am thinking 14-12, but who remembers JV scores anyway. I do remember however, the victory celebration that took place after the game by the S.C. team. I thought dang, either this team has never won a game before or they just continued their undefeated season. Maybe a S.C. poster can let me know.
  17. Nice job Gerry Bertier....you probably saved some time for the coaches of the 3 teams involved.
  18. NOPE... Decisions made by the T$$AA regarding eligibility will contain the phrase to the effect of "based upon the information we currently have" we make the following ruling. If additional information is submitted or discovered, it can change their decision.
  19. Waverly wins this game 15-14. MC controlled the first half scoring a touchdown (missed conversion) and a safety to take a 8-0 lead into halftime. Waverly came out flat and the offense couldn't put together any kind of a drive. MC's star running back (#11) went down with an injury right before halftime and did not return. The second half was much different. Waverly's intensity was obviously much better and they began to move the ball and control the clock and kept their defense off the field. Waverly's first drive of the second half resulted in a TD and the 2 pt. conversion tied it at 8-8. The defense also played better in the second half. Waverly scored again to take a 15-8 lead but MC came back to score later in the 4th quarter. The extra point was blocked by Luke Anderson, making it 15-14. MC had one late chance but decided to pooch kick on fourth down around Waverly's 30 yard line with less than 3 minutes left. Waverly then ran for a couple first downs preserving the win. It wasn't pretty but it still counts. Good job Tigers.
  20. I didn't say Bolivar was avoiding playing good competition. They have an excellent team and have improved themselves by playing the best competition around. Their win-loss record shows that. Several losses during the regular season is immaterial to the goal of winning a state championship. The point I was trying to make is that their road to M'boro is much easier by taking on the rural schools (new District 11) and avoiding closer geographical schools like the Memphis schools in the district, regional and sectional tournaments. Money is not an issue for Bolivar (their gate receipts are probably near the tops in the state), reaching the state tournament is. Locate the schools on the map, study it, and you will realize the practice af gerrymandering is alive and well within the TSSAA. And I am sure Kessler had a voice in how this was achieved. I do agree that Camden seemed to get the worst of it.
  21. I'd say Bolivar's Kessler had a lot to with the decision. He does his best to get every advantage for Bolivar. Ever wonder why Bolivar is even playing a substate game in Nashville? Bolivar is aproximately 50 miles from Memphis yet avoids all the talent laden Memphis schools in its quest for M'boro. Bolivar travels past Jackson Northside and USJ on their way to district foe Camden. (Camden had to drive over 90 miles to get their 70 point whooping during the regular season.) Yet Northside and USJ go westward for their regionals and sectional games. Please correct me if I am wrong, but it sure appears that someone had a lot of influence when the new districts , regions and sectionals were drawn up.
  22. Have they not announced the all district teams and MVP yet? One says Parker, another Mendenhall? Or is one for the tourney, the other for the season?
