  1. You can get a new mat for around $8,000 (40x40). Jim Morgan at Baylor would be a good person to contact to ask about new or used mats. Give Coffee Co. a call and Al may have some information about a group in middle Tennessee that might be able to help out financially.
  2. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Article published Feb 1, 2006 PREP WRESTLING TSSAA director: CHS outstanding site for state duals By JAMES D. HORNE The Leaf-Chronicle As far as the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association is concerned, the city of Clarksville and Clarksville High will be the home of the state wrestling duals for as long as it's wanted here. "I think the answer is you can never say it will be (in Clarksville) forever," TSSAA Executive Director Ronnie Carter said. "But it's been a great situation mainly because of the combination of things we look for in a sight: the facilities, (state duals tournament director) Artie Manning, (CHS assistant principal) John Miller, all the people at Clarksville High including Jeff Jordan, the hotels, the people in the city, the restaurants and all the hospitality." "Plus the coverage (from The Leaf-Chronicle), with all that, Clarksville has just been the thing you look for when you look for a sight." The state duals, which start Friday and end Saturday, have been held in Clarksville since 2000, and is bid upon every year. The tournament began in 1989. "When it started (in Clarksville), it felt good and it has just gotten better and better," Carter said. "We make our decision year-to-year. After the event is finished, every year we tell Clarksville High how we understand what a tough task it is to host the duals and how hard it is, but they do a great job with it." Since coming to Clarksville, the state duals have grown by leaps and bounds. The first five years the duals were held at Clarksville High, only the top eight teams from Division I and II competed. Then last year, the TSSAA added a four-team championship for schools in Class A-AA, which was won by Franklin Road Academy. The TSSAA upped the ante this year by adding eight more teams to the Class AAA portion, bringing the total number of teams coming to Clarksville on Friday to 30. "The one great thing about the state duals is that it's been a great tournament every year," Carter said. "The negative has been the fact it's been the same teams over and over with Clarksville High, Soddy Daisy, Bradley, Father Ryan, etc. ..." "It almost became an invitational, which is not good for the sport. With the new blood coming in, it won't take away from the successful programs. But it will add excitement for the new schools, like Ravenwood, coming in." Franklin won the Class AAA title last year, breaking Bradley Central's two-year reign, while Baylor won its third Division II crown

  6. Legman, The great thing is you were able to acheive both championships and lasting relationships which is a credit to you. I am glad that I had the opportunity to work with you for many years and more importantly that you were both my son's coach and teacher. Thanks for being a huge part of many great memories for me and my family. Your Friend, Alan Morris
  7. Congratulations to Coffee County on their wins over Shelbyville and Franklin County.
  8. First off, congratulations to coach Al Miller on his induction to the Wrestling Hall of Fame. I've known Coach Miller since he started coaching and appreciate all he's done for wrestling. Raider76, Come on now, read Cobrakid8's post on the "Notre Dame - Baylor - McCallie" thread. He makes very good points. Good luck this year to Dan.

  11. Pummelking, I do believe the Cleveland Duals tournament is the oldest "Dual Meet" tournament. Im not sure about the individual tournament my guess would be the Chattanooga Central tournament.

    The Coffee Pot

it is very funny how some of precieve coffee county football and seem to know everything about bill price and his coaching staff. coach price has done an excellent job at coffee county. going on his 3rd year at coffee county he has won 14 games and has lost 4 games by 2 points or less. 2 of those losses have come to tullahoma by 3 points total. he has also beatin every team in the region except for lincoln co. Also, how can anyone say that coach price has problems with other region coaches. it just happens that he is very good friends with all the coaches and if anyone would like they can ask any of the coaches and see what they have to say!! Now knowing that all this fire is coming from someone in the tullahoma area, the score at halftime was 14-3. tell me where tullahoma dominated the first half. 6 of tullahoma's points came off a punt return that was brought to coffee co. 7 yard line and then a punt that was kicked off another coffee county player that put the ball inside the coffee county 20. where is the domination at? tullahoma had the one drive at the end. if im not mistaken just like tullahoma coffee county fumbled on the goal line which would have made the score 21-3. anyone having to say something about coach price's coaching im sure he would love to hear from you and not off a board with a hidden name. coffee county use to be everyone's homecoming game, thats not the case anymore. they are a contender year in and year out. not to mention they lost to the region champs last year by one point. Also coach price has open many doors for his coaches at coffee county that have a toatal of 6 years experience between 5 coaches. he consistantly has the leading rusher in the mid-state and as of today william le hawkins is the second leading rusher in the state. coffee county has one of the most disciplined teams in the state in which coach demands alot from his coaches and players. if anyone from a neutral school says anything about coffee county they will tell you that they are physical and in your face and the offense is always high tempo from getting the play in to the huddle and running it. by the way coffee co. has gone for it on 4th down 21x and has converted 18x. also 2x they did not get it were off of a fake punt and on all 3 tries that failed no points were scored by the opposing team.
  14. Congratulations Red Raiders! This team has the talent and will improve each week. Way to go BASSMASTER!
  15. The pads aren't even on yet but after watching a few practices this past week the team looks very organized. Seems like Coach Price has his team ready for another successful season. It will be interesting to see who will step up to fill the shoes of Jack Nunley running the football. Good luck this year Coffee Co.

    REGION 8

CoachD, Great job. How many starters will youHouston) return next year? Which WesTN team is the favorite to win Region 10 next year? I think the West made a BIG statement at the state tournament this year. Congratulations to all the Region 8 wrestlers and coaches.
  21. Texas23, You make a good point about Coleman not having a choice on who decides to go 103 or 119 to avoid him. I think that happens alot and thats just the way it is. Coleman is the OW and while I could make a case for a couple others it all comes down to the refs opinions. If one of the other wrestlers would have won there would be those arguing for Coleman. It happens every year. So instead of complaining about who won it lets just congratulate Coleman and all the other state champs.
  22. After last years state tournament we knew that Franklin had the most returning points for the next season. Does anyone know what the returning points for next year state tournament is?
