  1. And, its been against pretty good competition, too. The Rebels have beaten McKenzie (4-1), Ripley (4-1), Union City (3-3), and played Covington (5-0) to the wire. Ask any of those teams and they will tell you: Kissell has to be considered among the best. [Edited by PowerSet on 10-3-02 8:09A]
  2. That would be 22 REceptions, which means he caught the ball while on offense, not 22 INTERceptions which means that he would have been on defense. He does have 3 or 4 interceptions, but certainly not 22.
  3. Considering that the teams Greenfield has beaten have a combined record of 3-13, its safe to say that they have had a VERY favorable schedule. South Fulton has too many weapons. SF by 2 touchdowns.
  4. Nothing against Dresden because they are greatly improved this year, but they still have to prove themselves against the cream of the crop in 7-2A. They played well against a good Humboldt team and a good Peabody team, but until they beat the top teams, (Milan, Westview, Union City) they will still have growing pains. Coach Rogers will have the Lions ready to play, but I think that Westview will have a bad taste in their mouths and be ready to payback someone for the loss to Huntingdon. That somebody just happens to be Dresden.
  5. I agree that teams get up for highly ranked teams. Obion was well prepared for the game against Covington, but they didn'e skip school that Friday to practice more. They might have had to get out a bit early to get things ready for the trip and eat the pre-game meal, but they weren't wasting any more energy than necessary, I can guarantee. It was a good game, too. Being from Obion Co., it was one of the best games I've seen the Rebels play. Covington is very talented, and OC is getting better. If your name is correct, I take it you hunt a good bit. Good luck this hunting season. I'm leaving next Friday for Manitoba, Canada for a 5 day goose/duck hunting trip. Hopefully a good week will give me the excitement that the last few Tennessee waterfowl seasons have been lacking. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  6. UT has offered to give a kid a full scholarship when a kid is a sophomore? Lots of things can happen in 2 years. If indeed he is a gifted athlete, thats great, but lets not count our chickens before they hatch. Tennessee could be showing interest to keep him from looking seriously at other schools, kinda "keeping him in their back pocket" but telling a kid as a sophomore tht he can have a full ride at this point is hard to believe.
  7. Though not a surprise to Rebel fans, Obion County has jumped out to a 4-1 start and looks to improve on that record. After playing # 1 Covington close through the entire game and then man-handling Union City, they are gaining the respect they deserve. Good job Coach Hill and keep the balls flying.
  8. I'd bet that two of those teams were not Crockett Co and Obion Co. The days of 2 or 3 dominant teams in West TN are fading fast. There are several teams that are helping make West TN pretty strong in football, all classes.
  9. You are correct. OC proved that they can play with the big boys. Covington and Union City will be the best two teams that the Rebels play, and they held their own against the Chargers and pulled out a convincing win against UCthat really wasn't as close as the score indicated. IT could have easily been 40-7, the same way it could have been 28-27. OC had turnovers, bad field position, and mistakes that used to kill them, but they are battling through those hard times. That is a sign of a mature team. The Rebels have grown up a lot since the beginning of this year, and hopefully they will continue to do so. And I agree.....9-1 is a VERY good possibility.
  10. Sometimes, if a team plays a schedule that doesn't have many passing teams on it, and the corners are good athletes, they can get by with a slower safety. As far as run support, a head-hunter, though he may have less than lightning speed, can do wonders for a team. Lots can be said for those "intangibles" such as determination, hard work, leadership, and plain old knowledge of the game. I was far from fast when i played outside LB in HS, but I made up for it by studying what and who to read and where to go. I taught myself to go there instinctually. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but I was't fast, and I was able to contribute to the team, nonetheless. As a coach now, I'll take one of those players with intangibles anyday.....especially if he's 6'3", about 185 lbs. and runs a 4.5. Then again, they just don't come around very often.

    OC @ UC...

What is happening?? I was going to try to find your e-mail address and see how everything was going in Mid-State. I guess the little one isn't so little any more, huh? Things are going pretty well here. Football is about over, and b-ball will be starting. You know how quickly jr high ball comes and goes. Hope all is going well for you. Good luck this basketball season.

    9/26 Upset Friday

Nice recovery, 481. If I had a good mark, Id give you one, b/c you handled yourself well. Louisville vs Florida St --- What a game. Thats what makes college football great. (almost as great as HS football) Hey 481--after that prediction.....if Tennessee passes the lottery, I'll be giving you a call. haha

    OC @ UC...

I dont think OC has more speed at wide receievr than UC has, but I do think that they have more weapons. UC will always have more speed, but the fact that OC throws the ball so much can negate a speed disadvantage. If you dont believe me, think about what happened last week when OC faced Covington. Covington had tons of athletes, but OC played toe to toe with them the entire game. By throwing short, precise passes, the defense can become over-agressive and then susceptable to the long pass. That is what Central does the best. They will run various formations to find one that works, and then run it till the opponent stops it. UC was able to hold OC to a season low in offense last year. Coach Hill was surprised at how UC could defend the routes. After another year in the system, OC should have solutions to the problems of last year. Lots of weapons like OC has is essential to keep the Defense from keying on one person. Defensively, if you stop speed before it starts, its not a factor. Once again, OC was able to accomplish this most of the night against Covington. If they can do that against #1 Covington (though there are better AAA teams in the state) they should be able to do it against UC. OC's biggest problem in beating the Tornadoes is between their ears. It seems to be a mental block when the game is played. After years of losses, winning isn't the mentality that OC has had. That should change this year. Coach Hill has the team thinking they could beat the Titans (which wouldn't be that far-fetched given the 4th quarter collapses they have had against the Cowboys and the Browns). OC will come to play tonight. No longer does having Obion County on the schedule guarantee a win. Raining on UC's Homecoming...... OC-24 UC-17 [Edited by PowerSet on 9-27-02 11:25A]
  14. Play the hand you dealt. If you have a big athletic bruising line, you play a power game. If you have small quick linemen, pull them and get outside. Small line, misdirections, counters, and playaction passes. A great QB, throw the ball if you can. A great RB, run him. Use what you have to give yourself the best chance. This is just one of many components. I agree with most of the other coaches. Just wanted to add this perspective.
  15. Thanks Warroir Even if the Lake County players were being immature, that wasn't a reason for the Central fans to sink to their level and trade obsenities. Racial remarks aren't appropriate in ANY circumstance. Period. However, if the Lake County players were making comments about the loss of Central's player, and degrading the deceased player, I wish the Rebels had scored 100 instead of calling off the dogs and putting in the freshmen.* bigwes68 - Dont cry about OC being so much bigger than LC and that we shouldn't even be playing. Boo Hoo. You weren't saying that in the 80's and early 90's when LC was demolishing OC year in and year out. Things change. What goes around comes around. *(Please know that this isnt aimed at all of Lake County's players, coaches, and fans. It is for those who are so insecure about themselves they have to disrespect others.) [Edited by PowerSet on 9-25-02 11:21A]
  16. good point wardog. Sadly, as long as its creating interest, money will win out over ethics every time. Very seldom does a person have plenty of both. After seeing the "good life" that fame and fortune gives the athletes, its no wonder people look to punks like Moss as role models.
  17. Obion County is gaining respect from teams that traditionally trample over them. They gave #1 Covington a run for their money last week and should fare well against Union City this weekend. Opposing teams can no longer take for granted a win when the Rebels come to town.
  18. As my former jr high coach would say... Moss is taking up space and breathing good air. Just another overpaid crybaby who thinks the world owes him for being a professional athlete. It casts a bad shadow on what athletics is all about. I teach my players (Junior high) that success has nothing to do with wins and losses, but everything to do with being respected. Respect and a good name and character will take a person farther in the long run than a sport ever will.
  19. Should be a dandy. Crockett Co 14 - Milan 13 or was it Milan 14 - Crockett Co 13 ??????????????hhmmmmmmmmmm???????????
  20. As a former player for Obion County, and still having strong ties to the team, I apologize for any misconduct on the part of our fans (ie. student section) at either the Ripley or Lake County game. Taunting or racial remarks are wrong and dont belong in any atmosphere, especially where kids are involved, or being ridiculed. As far as OC not playing Lake County anymore, I agree that OC doesnt get anything out of the deal other than money. For too long the Rebels were the doormat of the area, but hopefully those days are gone. We need to play teams that will make us better, even if that means a loss. Westview will surely give us that. It should help both teams, and probably be a bigger money game than OC-LC. (Westview will undoubdetly bring tons of fans, most likely more than Lake County does.) Lake County has a tough Junior high team, and help is on the way for the Falcons. In a few years, they should be back to the Falcons that dominated West Tennessee in the 80's and early 90's. As far as the Whitby thing, VERY few people in OC are crying that he is gone. Enough said. Best of luck to LC and OC in the rest of the season, and in the seasons to come. GO REBELS!!! 21. Could go either way. Both have numerous weapons, bith offensively and defensively. The winner will be the one with the fewest mistakes and turnovers. Milan 14 - Crockett Co 13 or Crockett Co 14 - Milan 13
  22. Brighton and Gibson County play Monday night, I think at 7:00, and not 7:30. Not sure about the Memphis teams.
  23. Prepfootball--- If Obion County is so bad, and Covington is so good, then what does the fact that they played evenly with you the entire game and the 21-13 score say about the Chargers??? (Covington fans- this was not directed at you or your team. Anyone could see that Covington has a great team. Its just meant to show this Sideline Commando Prepfootball that Obion County has a legitimate team this year.) PS Prepfootball---- how many yards or tackles did you have in the game?? And if you're really brave, what number are you so I can verify your stats??? Congratulations Chargers and good game Rebels! Maybe we'll meet again in November!
  24. Covington proved to be the # 1 team in 3A Friday by downing the Rebels. Neither team played its best, but in the end, Covington had more weapons. The game was tied most of the way, and stayed at 14-13 until about 2 minutes to go in the game. Both teams showed their determination and both should enjoy successful remainders of the season. Who knows...they could see each other again.....
  25. Looks good, but crockett co / mcnairy co could be a toss-up. But, then again, all the rest are toss-ups, too. A great week for high-school football in West Tennessee
