  1. Trust me buddy, I know a lot about football. Wow..that's a real achievement..beating Vanderbilt..what happened against Kentucky and Tennessee though? Dwone Hicks, who alot of people said would be one of the most underrated backs in the country last year rushed for 33 yards against Tennessee, a run defense that really isn't even that good. I'm not dissing MTSU and their players at all. They are playing college football and I'm not. I am saying though, that if I had the talent of a Carl Stewart, there is no way I would pick MTSU over any SEC school, especially Auburn. When is the next time MTSU is going to even be able to consider a national championship? [Edited by rhinob59 on 1-24-03 2:11P]
  2. Ryan Moore, McCallie, class of 2004...one of the top college QB prospects around,as well as one of the top baseball prospects...
  3. Tennessee has some pretty serious problems as far as I can see..look at who else they're loosing to Auburn from instate: Bliss and Vaughn from Brentwood Academy. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Tennessee have problems with the kicking game this year that these two could have immediately fixed? What about King Dunlap, the monster lineman, also from BA who is also headed for Auburn next year? More bad news for Tennessee is that Swain, the big time reciever from Alabama who has commited to UT, visited Bama last weekend, and is scheduled to be at AU next weekend. What's going to happen if they lose him? For some reason not a lot of folks want to be around UT right now, and I'd love to hear from some of these players about why...
  4. There's no rumor about it, Gerald was ineligible for the Peach Bowl because he couldn't pass the NCAA mandated 6 hours of class minimum...that's kind of pathetic if he was taking tennis and career management. Carl is being recruited as a fullback anyway...look at espn.com's recruiting fullback rankings..I think he's 14 or 15. The fact is, I'm sure he wants to play running back, but he could probably play soon at fullback, and from what I've heard, he'd be a very decent linebacker or split end. I won't even try to argue the academic virtues of going to Vanderbilt, I guess it all comes down to what he wants to do. Anyway, we'll all know for sure in the beginning of February.
  5. Gerald Riggs visited 4 other schools after commiting to UT last year. I'll bet any of you that Carl will end up at Auburn next year, or anywhere besides Middle Tennessee State. Who with any talent would go to MTSU? If he has any concern for a football future, he won't end up there. It's idiocy to even try to compare the programs at Auburn and MTSU. Auburn is the better school in all aspects, it doesn't even come close. The next time anyone mentions MTSU in the top 50 in a ranking we can talk, but untill then, WAR EAGLE...can't wait to have you here Carl...
  6. Why aren't the kids hitting the weightroom? That's one of the basics of football anymore. You can't have a decent football program with out a good weight training program to support it. It dissapoints me to hear that the kids aren't working. I've never been a big fan of Red Bank, but I had a lot of respect for them a couple of years ago. They worked hard, and worked as a team to achieve their ultimate goal. You can't blame it on loosing kids to Baylor, McCallie, and Tyner. They've dealt with that for several years now, and were dealing with it the season they won state. It sounds like someone needs to light a fire under those kids' butts, or Red Bank will dwell in mediocrity for a long time to come.
  7. Sure..Auburn isn't as good as UT or Georgia or Florida or Bama...they're better than all of them. Go check out http://espn.go.com/ncf/s/2003/0107/1488663.html and look who the number 4 team is. Look at where the rest of those SEC teams are. Yeah, I realize that this is purely a preseason ranking, but I've seen many other rankings that pick Auburn as the best team of the SEC. These aren't without some sort of factual base. Vandy is definately one of the best academic schools in the country, but Auburn is no academic slouch, and they're definately going to be in the running for at least an SEC title, if not a national title. If a player is good enough, he'll get his shot to play, and it shows confidence on the part of Carl for him to want to go play where there are already several great backs.
  8. It will be tough to find playing time in Auburn's very well stocked backfield for the next couple of years. Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams will only be juniors, and Tre Smith will be a sophomore. All three are great backs, with huge big play potential. As a true freshman, Tre Smith ran all over Alabama's highly touted defense for well over 100 yards. Ronnie was awesome in relief of Cadillac after he got hurt against Florida, and Cadillac(as long as he stays healthy) is one of the top backs in the country. In fact, I've seen several rankings that have Auburn's backfield ranked as the best in the country. In addition to these three guys, Auburn has signed Brandon Jacobs, a juco star who weighs in at over 240 pounds and runs a legitamate 4.4 40 yard dash. Carl is just the icing on the cake. I'm sure Tubberville has thought a lot about moving at least one or two of these 5 outstanding players to fullback to make the most out of all of their talents. Even if Carl is concerned about playing time, I'd much rather be around Auburn with a shot at a national championship next year, than at Vandy, where they might win two or three games next year.

    Best QB in 2003

I have to throw his name out there again..Ryan Moore from McCallie. Sure he had a down year last year, but he is still among the top quarterbacks in the state and clos to being among the elite in the nation. He speant the weekend after New Years in San Antonio at the National Junior Combine (only 200 invitations nationwide), and he's getting mail from all of the major colleges around the country. Look for him to have a much better year this year as he and McCallie will be on the rebound, and look for him to go to a big time college, at least for baseball...

    PANFAN

Hey Panfan..I saw your picture on the new school's website (Haddon sent it to me). First off, congrats on the new job. Second...have you gained some weight since your days on the Ridge?? Just kidding buddy...good luck! The Animal
  11. without a solid line in front of them, neither position is worth much. I'd build a team around a solid offensive line.
  12. Nose guard would be a great position for him, although he'd probably need to get a bit stronger to fend off double teams and triple teams. Center or pulling guard are both also really good suggestions. At those two line positions, quickness is far more beneficial than size.

    Ingle Martin

I wasa always very impressed with Ingle when we played agianst him and that MBA team at McCallie. There's no doubt that he's got a ton of talent, and as proved by several of the plays he got to run this year, he can be a playmaker in the SEC. Leak's definately got the potential to be a huge star, but I think at this point, Ingle is better suited to start.
  14. sorry, my bad...they graduate one of their main recievers don't they? As far as Ryan Moore, this discussion has been had several times. He was Mr. Football, and he was named the offensive MVP of the Super Seven on the COACHES team, the folks who actually know what they are talking about. He was everything for that team this year. You can blame the TD to INT ratio on any number of things. When Wayne Fullam got hurt, McCallie's running game was essentially rendered helpless, allowing teams to key on the passing game. He also didn't have a very experienced/large offensive line in front of him and a lot of his throws were hurried. Ryan is a perfectly good football player, and a great kid. I'm sure he'll have plenty of choices as to where he wants to go and what he wants to do with his life, whether it be football, baseball, or meteorology.
  15. I think Cleveland, McCallie, Tyner, and Boyd Buc are all teams to look for next year. These teams are consistantly the best in the Chattanooga area, and , especially in Cleveland and McCallie's case, they had very young teams this year and have a great player to lead them in Levonte Barber and Ryan Moore respectively. Boyd Buc has a lot of people to replace, most notably Healy, Nelson, Headden, and several linemen, and Tyner loses the Craddock brothers and Courtney McGlone, but return several linemen including 2A Mr. Football Lineman Demonte Boldin. If these teams can replace their quality skill position guys, which they always manage to do, they'll definately be worth watching next year. There are several teams around Chattanooga that will be down significantly. Ooltewah and Baylore are two teams that lose a whole lot and I'm not sure how they can replace it. Ooltewah loses their amazing offensive line and star running back Blake Foster. Baylor's supposed strengths this year were their lines of scrimmage. They really didn't look that impressive when I saw them this year, but they graduate most of them. Earl Williams is gone too. That's the great thing about football though, you can't predict things like this because of kids working their tails off over the spring and summer. Good luck to all of the kids over the off season.
  16. there's a rule in the NFL that says essentially that you have to be the equivilent of a college sophomore to go pro. I know this because of the fuss that was caused when Maurice Clarett said that he was considering challenging the NFL rule about freshmen going pro. It must be based on age though because Kelley Washington was going to go pro last year-his freshman year
  17. I'm not saying that they stink because they lost four games, you guys won a state championship. Congratulationss. I won mine last year, and I would have gotten extremely mad if anyone had tried to tell me that it wasn't worth anything. No one is trying to discount your title. However, to make a claim such as "We are the overall state champions" is kind of silly. There is no way to prove that besides personal opinion. Like it was said earlier, there are 8 state championships in Tennessee. I'm sure each one of those teams probably thinks they are the over all state champion. I understand how a team comes together through a season, and how the beginning of a season usually has nothing to do with the end of it, but the fact still remains that you guys lost to BGA, Baylor, BA, and MUS, even though you did avenge the last two. Don't make excuses. You won a state title, be happy with that. Why do you need to give yourselves a title that no one else will recognize?
  18. Normally I would be arguing that the champion of D2 AAA is the best team in the state. Many years that's been easy to do. McCallie last year was undefeated, and MBA for the several years before that was. There is no question in my mind that those two teams were overall state champion. It's hard to make that statement this year though. MBA had 4 losses, and a few near misses including one to Knox Catholic of all people. Sure, they killed the last few teams that they played including my alma mater, but as far as being the overall best in the state, I don't think that is a legitamte statement this year. Sorry guys, you're definately one of the better teams in the state this year, and the turn around you made towards the end of the season was very impressive, but it's hard to make a claim like this, especially with 4 losses when there are plenty of teams out there with fewer losses against better opponents.
  19. Yes, but we all know that even if he doesn't deserve it this year, Adarius Bowman from Notre Dame will win..that's just the way it is.. his name is out there now because of the season he had last year
  20. 20-6 CPA in the third..looks like Boyd is getting it handed to them.
  21. Isn't it Hook or Peter Pan or something with the Lost Boys in it? Or was it Little Rascals?
  22. Gomab, Kyle White is a senior wing, 6'1, 175lbs..was pretty consistent for McCallie last year, and McCallie will be trouble for anyone if he and Suddath keep up this pace
  23. So? How many defensive snaps did Fisher get? How many punts did he have? How many field goals did he kick? This arguement is going no where. The long and short of it is that Ryan won the award. If you have an issue with that, talk to the Nashville area sportswriters, who obviously didn't turn in their votes or something because I'm certain there are more voters in Nashville than Chattanooga. By the way, where did you see that about Fisher being the Super Seven MVP? I didn't know they'd released that team yet...
  24. Sure Ryan had a crappy end to the season, but how did Fisher start the season? He and MBA almost lost to Knox Catholic of all people... Let's look at the stats.. Fisher: Passing- 160 of 290 for 2369 yards and 18 TD's with 11 INT's Averaging 182.2 yds/game Rushing-117 carries for 170 yds. and 3 TD's Recieving-2 catches for 31 yds. and a TD 1 Tackle 1 State Championship game MVP Moore: Passing-67 of 149 for 1382 yards, 13 TD's and 14 INT's Averaging 125.6 yards a game Rushing- 106 carries for 416 yards and 4 TD's 7 of 12 FG's made with a long of 42 yds. 32 of 32 PAT's made 30 Punts for 1149 yards, 6 touchbacks, 8 inside the twenty, a long of 66 yards, and an average of 38.3 yards 9 tackles, a sack and a safety Fisher has the better passing numbers, but that's the only statistical category he beats Moore in. He may have been the MVP of the championship game, but Mr. Football doesn't take that into consideration. Both of them have rings now, only Ryan won his as a sophomore..a pretty decent accomplishment. Moore did everything for his team and really carried them on his shoulders for a lot of the season. He was a deserving choice. Congrats again Ryan!
  25. great stuff as always Mean Jean...
