  1. The SEC reference isn't as much about consistent success as it is about the parity within the region and how hard it is to make the playoffs. Usually comes down to week 10 for things to be decided. The last few years, teams have been in the situation of winning game 10 and finishing in the top 2 or losing game 10 and not making the playoffs. Agree with the bro being disappointed with CBHS and not wanting to give others credit. Since I am a WSHS alum, I will be pulling for them! Should be interesting to see what happens. I would think WS has the advantage with several returning players from their semi-final team of 2006.
  2. not officially. word is he can't accept the job yet b/c he would lose his severance package from u of m. however, assistants on staff that interviewed have not been told they would/wouldn't be the new head coach.
  3. WORD GOING AROUND IS JOE LEE DUNN
  4. From Ridgeway Aaron Crawford - Texas Tech Josh Jasper - LSU Dasmine Cathey - Memphis Lagrone Shields - Colorado
  5. Word is Joe Lee is getting an interview and may have the inside track simply b/c of his name. Not sure he would be a good hire for Ridgeway, though. As for Randall, he has not applied.....can't get the job if you don't apply. As for the 2002 jamboree....that story stayed in the papers for at least 3 seasons after it happened! They played starters the whole time; ours played one series, then the freshmen played (one of which was mine)! In the end, we would take that 40-0 all over again b/c on December 7, 2002 we won the state championship!!!!! Where was East??? Not in Murfreesboro!
  6. Latest rumor - Joe Lee Dunn has applied for the job.........
  7. As of yesterday, Randall had not applied.
  8. Job just posted last week. Principal says he has already gotten several inquiries. Not sure when the interviews will start....will try to find out. Heard Randall's name mentioned the other day. Interesting...I would think he would have an inside track if interested. He knows the system and has already proven he can relate to the kids in Memphis. Heard during the playoffs some promises made by Munford had not been delivered and he might be looking to move.
  9. Congrats, Chris! It seems like yesterday you were playing SYS ball with David. Time flies. We are proud of you and think you will look GREAT in orange!
  10. White Station has earned their way throughout the season and the playoffs just as Ravenwood has. No one expects Ravenwood to "give" WS anything. I am sure players from both teams will leave it all on the field tomorrow night.
  11. get over yourself. we are ridgeway fans but are supporting wshs now as they are the only memphis city school still playing football right now. yes, we failed and are not playing this week but we can still talk about what could have been because we love and support our team. PAPAW was just giving the best comparison he could based on points for/against b/c he has only seen ridgeway play this year. he knows about ravenwood from our semi- game with you last year and probably thought b/c ravenwood was familiar with ridgeway they might be able to decipher something from it. it's great y'all are still playing and your coach and team have done a great job turning their season around. don't know if you are a player or a fan, but a little humility never hurt anyone. very few memphis people get on these boards. if we weren't here talking to you with kwc and traderb, looks like you would only have stuman and maybe one other person to converse with. hope you and all the other ravenwood fans have a safe trip and that the game is injury free and exciting to watch. GO SPARTANS!!! (don't think i've said that since the 80's!)
  12. At least it has words...more than I can say for the fight song of your alma mater!!!!
  13. Yep...I didn't realize this but we were in the locker room last Sunday putting helmets away and Coach said something about the schedule with all the scores on the bulletin board...do you realize that we did not give up more than 7 points in any game this year??????? That is pretty remarkable. As for Ravenwood, I think they got off to a rough start but have peaked at the right time. Their region is a tough one. They lost some good players last year but it sounds like their QB has matured through the season. After the game last week, Coach Wright mentioned maybe trying to play at MUS this week-especially if the weather was going to be bad. Coach Wright is an MUS alum so that might have worked out but I think the psychological factor of playing at the Fairgrounds - and the fact the weather is supposed to be good - outweighed that. I think there will be a lot of people at the game so you better get there early to get a seat! Go White Station! (Come on rhsplaya - you can say it, too!)
  14. Me too, PAPAW. Even I can't convince him. Although he does like Coach Wright...maybe he will come around. We have a few days to work on him...I could even teach him the words to the White Station fight song...somehow, I just don't see it happening - says he doesn't even care to go to the game with us. What's wrong with the boy? (I know, but I can't say it on here!) Onward Spartans, onward Spartans, fight right through that line...
  15. You must be older than me b/c I don't remember our football teams ever being undefeated in the regular season. We played in the Tiny Knee Bowl in Ripley, TN my senior year. My oldest son was born in 88 and graduated from Ridgeway last year. Did you play for Marino or was it before that ?
  16. what year did you graduate - thinking 89 since that is behind your name but could be of other significance? did you play football?
  17. I would bet the MCS station is going to broadcast on FM88.5 but I don't think they have an internet broadcast.
  18. Hey PAPAW...have been "laying low" trying to get over our loss. Went to the Wooddale-WSHS game Friday night and boy was it hard to watch...Where was the DEFENSE??? Can't tell you how many times I heard "we should be playing," but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes. Cooley can't go to a county school b/c you can't "double dip" there. He has to go out of state or private. As for it being the "best kept secret" there was never a secret to keep. Everyone has known all along he planned to leave MCS after this year, but he did not pursue any options until Ridgeway was done. The Briarcrest thing was a shock b/c rumors had been swirling but no one ever contacted him....not sure how his "style" would have fit in over there, anyway! I am a firm believer in things happen for a reason...kind of like when he applied for the Bartlett job and didn't get it and we won state that year! How many games has Bartlett won since Scott Reed left? No players I know of plan on taking their coach with them to the next level. I am not sure about Center Hill in Olive Branch. I know there are a couple of other schools in MS that have come open in the last week or so. I don't think Mr. Long will wait 'til Cooley is gone to start looking for a replacement. He has asked if he would reconsider but that's not going to happen! I think TraderB makes some good points about what will happen at Ridgeway if they don't get someone good in there. It should be interesting to see what happens. As for the Ravenwood-WSHS game, I will be pulling for my alma mater, WSHS, but I think they have a very tough road in front of them and will have to play better than they did last Friday night to win.
  19. It's my understanding that the voting was done at the end of the regular season. The playoff stats are not even in the picture. Of course we want Aaron to win because he's on our team, but his missing 3 regular season games probably hurts his chances.
  20. Neely's sounds good...I'll hold you to it. As of right now, we plan on going to the White Station-Wooddale game so I will keep you posted. If that changes, I'll let you know.
  21. You won last night on special teams. Good luck against WSHS!
  22. Good luck to Wooddale and White Station next week. Should be an awesome rematch. Would love to see one of you playing in the Boro that first weekend in December. Wooddale is in our region and just beat us but I am a WSHS alum - having a hard time deciding who to pull for! Hope it is a great game and all the players come out injury free.
  23. CONGRATS to Henry County on a great win!
  24. My oldest son actually graduated from Ridgeway last year. My husband has been the head coach at Ridgeway for the last 22 years. He plans to retire from Memphis City Schools in February so this was his last game on the Ridgeway sidelines - which would explain to you why I could hardly talk on those last few phone calls! Ridgeway football is all we have ever known...our blood is blue and orange. As he said to his team last night, he does "not know what the future holds for [me], but Ridgeway will always be home." He has spent 26 of his 30 years with Memphis City Schools at Ridgeway High School but the time has come to move on. He plans to keep coaching - either in a TN private school or crossing over state lines to MS or AR. Know anyone looking for a coach???!!! It has been fun...you do a great job keeping us all informed. If we decide to go to the White Station-Wooddale game next week, I will let you know. Good luck to you and your team!
