  1. I think Volunteer played their Jamboree thursday, played away Friday and then played Cloudland Sat. Were legs not an issue for them?
  2. Louden better be careful, SHS students don't like for people to come into their gym and root for the visitors. At least that's what I heard.
  3. I'm a college scout in the North Carolina area, and I was wondering why my son, err, one of the best jv "studs" i've ever seen is not playing at... bballwriter, you gotta be kidding. I'm sure the coach is out to get these guys. He probably has a huge contract waiting at another high school, but can't get out of his unless he is fired, thus he is trying to lose. Maybe it's like that movie, Majorleague and he just wants to move the team to sunny Miami.
  4. this thread is like a bad car wreck, i want to turn away and not look, but i can't. i'm going to start a thread whose soul purpose is to get more pages and more views than this one. how long before coachV (get it, coach "volunteer") shuts me down?
  5. DB will win as big as they want. Talk about losing key players, I think North lost all skill positions. Am I wrong about this? I know the QB and both WR's graduated. What about the RB's?
  6. This guy seems to want to fight with anyone. On his thread, on other threads, it don't matter. CHHS72, I sure am glad opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one and nobody really wants yours. I've just been watching, but you seem to be like a pirahna, content when their is a lot of food and things are good for you and yours, but quick to turn on your own when things go bad. Just a couple of observations from an uninvolved third party. Take it for what its worth, and its worth every penny you paid.
  7. What are the odds that Stokomo will be at this camp? He is still coaching at Volunteer isn't he?
  8. What do you mean not showing anything in a tournament game when it don't mean anything? Sure, you might not want to throw your Ace against a conference foe in a tourny, but why would you leave out several "starters"? Do you think it will be a big surprise to the Watagua that Miller can hit, bunt, run and field? Etown sure is sneaky making everyone think they are worse than they are. Good strategy though, give your team excuses before the games are even played. "Well guys, we might not win because six of our best players are not going to play." How absurd.
  9. Betsy will play it's first game outside Etown in a long while. I'm pulling for them, but playing all those games at home recently could not help them Wednesday. Sure it helped get them there, but is that all they want. If so, Ridgeway big!
  10. My fault, how could I leave out Unicoi and there 19 straight District titles. Let's see, how about Unicoi and their traveling band of rednecks? Don't count out the water tower boy's from Hampton or the Stump sitters in johnson County (if you've been there you've seen the stumps). Did Summey beat DB yesterday?
  11. Who's the team to beat in the Watagua: Central and their band of mighty men, BJ and the rest of the Clones, Summey's Golden Raiders, MoChuck McCloud's Falcons or Sad Holler? Personally I would love to see an 8 way tie at 7-7. Would that be great or what?
  12. not sure if he coached at Ketron or not. He won state championships at Sullivan North in 83 and 85 then went to Kingsport (DB).
  13. Got to give my best to Coach West and his Lady Indians. Look out Harriman, they are on the warpath.
  14. I meant to put my post here, but I put it in the copycat instead. Regardless, good luck to both teams in the substate. I hope Betsy remembers their way out of town, been a long time since playing outside Treadway.
  15. The Horns have been playing well all week. They just beat Central who embarrassed them by 31 last week. They need all their players to show up ready if they want a third straight upset. If Betsy does win, they get to play at home again. When was the last time they had to play on the road? Congrats to both teams. I would love to see both teams in the State. What would that say about the Watagua?
  16. Gotta be Mike Ritz and his two state championships.
  17. The TSSAA cannot and should not schedule games. They kow nothing about rivalries and so called "money games". The TSSAA has a hard enough time keeping Brentwood in check, much less trying to come up with hundreds of schedules every year. I guess some people would love to see everyone at .500. That way no one's feelings would get hurt and everyone is equal. I GOT IT! IF YOU BEAT US THE FIRST TIME WE PLAY, YOU HAVE TO LET US WIN NEXT TIME! Tournaments are overrated anyway.
  18. Saw Brown go down the other night. Any info on how he is? Rumors say ACL, I have heard nothing solid.
  19. I am fully aware that it was Oneida, located in Oneida, TN, in the county of Scott just south of Winfield, KY. I guess the joke did not take written as well as it does spoken. Noide= NO IDEE or NO IDEA. Get it? Furthermore, no disrespect to kids from Norris or Lake City, but most would admit that a few transfers from Clinton or O.R. would boost the talent Eldridge has to work with. NO need to get worked up about it, besides the courts just said recruiting is protected as freedom of speech and TSSAA can't do a thing about it thanks to Brentwood. So take what I said for what it was worth. Remember, you did not pay a thing to read it.
  20. The conference title will come down to the Central vs. Betsy rematch. I think Central beats them next time forcing a coin toss for the number 1 seed. Both teams should have little difficulty winning out in this league. The number one seed is worth more this year, because I heard they get an automatic birth to the regional. Is this true?
  21. He's a teeny weeny man. Eldridge does do a good job. Don't forget he took that Noide team to the state tournament a few years back. If he keeps getting Clinton and Oak Ridge transfers, he will be a force very soon.
  22. Thank you Dice for saying what I was having a hard time saying. Someday cooler heads will prevail.
  23. Chalk up another victory to ignorance and closed mindedness. While I agree high school athletics is a choice and players can either follow the rules or leave, I do believe, however that many kids benefit from participation. Sending a kid away who has braids sends the message the kid is not good enough because of the way he looks. I bet many of these kids get that message alot. Belonging to a basketball team is a tremendous honor. It has the ability to change a person's life forever. Deny a kid who has the potential to go either way in life, good or bad, is an injustice to them. I wonder if any of the people supporting these rules are the parents of un-athletic clean-cut players who are benefitting from increased playing time? It is clear to me that I am in the minority here, and that means I am not welcome, because participating on a message board is a choice not a right.
  24. Why does team discipline have to equate with hair styles. Braids are considered by many as a cultural hair style. If a black coach were to require his white players to wear braids would there be more of a cry against him? The fact that people are judged by the way they look is the problem of the onlooker not the one being judged. Someone mentioned tattoos earlier, what the heck does tattoos have to do with anything? Are people so closed minded they cannot let the personality of a person speak louder than the appearance of them? Was Bill Walton a bad player or a bad person because he decided to wear his hair long and play with a beard? I'm not sure but I think he has since decided for himself to cut his hair and beard and has continued to be successful. Coaches don't fight battles just because you can win them, fight the ones that need to be fought. A kid refusing to wear team shoes or team sweats is more of a problem than a kid with his hair in braids.
  25. Were these players really cut because they refused to cut their hair? Is this really important in the sport of basketball, or even in life? If a player wants to wear his/her hair in braids, why can't they? Do braids hinder their ability to play? I understand discipline and unity, but I think these things can be accomplished without dictating hair styles.
