  1. Knox Central has a few players being recruited: Terence Scott is being recruited by UT, Marshall, and a few other schools. Zach Helton has received some interest from UT as a junior. Adam Cox (placekicker) is hopeful of a scholarship from UT, but they have yet to offer. My guess is that Adam will be a preferred walkon for the Big Orange. After yesterday, no doubt he can put himself in a fair competition, perhaps even as a freshman. Finally, Bubba Johnson is being recruited by a couple of schools. He really wants to go D-1, but I am uncertain how many offers from D-1 schools he will receive. Auburn showed some early interest, but he has not made a visit there. More likely options are Carson-Newman,Maryville, or Cumberland.
  2. No way does West stay in this one. Maryville is getting focused for the stretch run and will beat West by at least 20 points. I agree West has some great athletes, and I am more impressed with their coach (knows the type of athlete it takes to win) and some of the things he has accomplished. Having said that though, Maryville is still Maryville and they are not going to overlook any team. Maryville 41 West 13 P.S. I think this is the CSS game of the week, or at least Basilio mentioned it during the Fulton game last evening.
  3. The only person I know of that thinks West will win this one is Tony Basilio(he alluded to it on his show) who would pick West if they were playing the Atlanta Falcons. (Three games at West H.S. for the CSS gang this season, wonder if Tony had anything to do with that?). Powell 27 West 21
  4. First of all M REBEL, Central WILL NOT lose by the same margin that Powell did. In fact, I think the Bobcats have the best chance of anybody in upsetting Maryville. Now, .......I did not say that it was gonna happen, but I think the "mojo" factor has to run out at some point. Central/Maryville will be a good one. Now..... about Powell being overrated, I think there is some credence in that, but actually I look for Powell to upset West this week which is a big win for them West is good, but with the game being at Powell, it makes for a tougher task. I am looking forward to the week 10 matchup between Powell/Central. The Bobcats have plenty of reason to be fired up for that one as it marks the return of players/coach that were Bobcats in 2003. While the Bobcats will not talk much "smack", their execution on the field will say it all that night. The game will be televised on CSS that night (marking the first Central broadcast by CSS all season what a shame) and should be a standing room only crowd.
  5. People tend to forget about David Gaston from Knox Central. He LITERALLY put on a CLLLLLIIIINNNNIIIIC against Murfreesboro siegel last week. That was the second game of the year that he has scored five TDs in a game, yet some Middle Tennessee player probably gets the player of the week honor because of the little town USA sportswriters that vote for their local talent. As opposed to the K-town area where we have only the large metro area paper that gives their own "popularity" award (who can vote online unlimited in a five day period). David will definitely be highly sought after in 2005.
  6. Why this game is the Comcast game of the week is beyond me. It seems as though you would want to get one of the top matchups on the air. Now West is fairly respectable, but they are basically playing for third in their region. Does anyone know the schedule for the rest of the season?
  7. Central will win in another rout like last year. However, Siegel will eventually become a very good team but it will be a couple more years. Recapping last week, too bad that the officials took center stage like Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake. Thirty-three flags are a bit much, but I must admit that the Hornets were writing checks that their athletic limitations could not cash. That is when officials have to seize control, and not let it become a circus (as it did Friday at Carter).
  8. Cocke County wins this one. Field will be saturated, not permitting Hornet offense to do much. Carter 13 Cocke County 21
  9. Well......looks like 'ol JKerr was right. Rebels are much improved, but not to the level of the Bobcats just yet. Looks like its Maryville and Central and the rest are field horses. Third place is up for grabs in the region. Look for more fearless forecasts by JKerr on Thursday
  10. I look for the Bobcats to win this win fairly handily........ West 14 Central 41 West is probably the third best team in this region behind 1. Maryville and 2. Central. Other predictions of interest: A-E 26 Fulton 14 Kingsport D-B 52 Bearden 12 Maryville 42 Halls 6 Morristown East 13 Powell 14 Kingston 27 Gibbs 7 Oak Ridge 33 Bradley Central 14 Carter 21 Clinton 9 Webb 16 BGA 28 Farragut 31 Heritage 19 See ya next week with more fearless predictions!!
  11. Entering week 2, my picks are as follows: 1. Maryville-- will remain #1 until someone knocks them off. In the words of the great Ric Flair...."to be the man, you gotta beat the man....WOOOOOOOO!!!" 2. Central-- the Bobcats are undoubtedly going to shock some folks. While last year was supposed to be the title year, it may come this season. Look at UT after the '97 season, they got it done. 3. Oak Ridge-- Could return to glory years status very soon. Look for the Wildcats to go through the regular season like Grant through Richmond. 4. Austin-East-- Loads of talent and quickness that is unparalleled. If they survive friday, could be headed for 10-0 season. 5. Fulton-- Lost more than they did from the 2002 season, but Elliott Bishop is a nice addition to any offense, let alone one with the depth of this team in the skill people area. They too, like the Roadrunners will go 10-0 if they win friday's biggie. Teams that are close: West, William Blount, Alcoa, Webb. On the outside looking in: Powell
  12. If John Adams or Hooker (Knoxville News-Sentinel)is counting he probably had at least every other tackle, if not all of them. BTW, since when is John Adams interested in High School football? The Powell article is the only one I can ever remember him doing. I guess Hooker has more influence over at that publication than I thought .........Adams writing about High School football(LOL)..........what in God's creation are we coming to?
  13. My opinion of the best coach is none other than Randy (by gahd) Carroll from Gibbs High School. 26 seasons and counting!!
  14. Don't worry about the injury bug biting us BC2, because I would be more afraid that the Panthers have thier hands full with the Spartans. Knox Central 27 Greeneville 16 Webb 20 Powell 21 Maryville 34 Carter 6 Sat. Farragut 13 Halls 21
  15. Don't forget David (Day-Day) Gaston, who is a junior at Knoxville Central. Gaston is extremely quick, and will gain over 1000 yards this season if he stays healthy. However, little or no respect is given to him in preseason publications, which is OK with "da coach". Gaston will shock many in the KFL this year. You can count on it.
  16. He can stomp, curse, act foolish, shop around, or do whatever he wants to. The bottom line is Huber would still be the 5th best LB at the"duck pond"
  17. Central's varsity did well at camp, but the most pleasant surprise is some of the freshman that may step up for the Bobcats. In the freshman games some of the lineman looked very promising at times, but none matched the play of the QB Clark McMillan. While he did have to endure heavy pressure on blitzes, he did look pretty collected when the money was on the line. Deep routes were not a problem in getting the ball to the receivers. Could possibly see some action in varsity mop-up roles while still learning the offense. In my opinion, I would think this kid (at this stage) is comparable to the Burnette kid at Maryville.
  18. You must understand JC4life that the choosing process centers around the KFL (or at least thats the official word). Powell at Central is "penciled in" for the time being as the game of the week on CSS for week 10. It will probably become oficial a little closer to game day I am told.
  19. A friend of mine who works for CSS says that the Webb @ Powell week zero game will NOT be televised as first believed. Instead it is thought that Maryville @ Carter will be televised, however that has not been finalized as yet. Also, other games (although only about 90% confirmed) are: Week 1-- Bearden @ West Week 2 -- AE@ Fulton Week 3-- Bearden @ Farragut Week 4 -- Central @ Carter All other games are still undecided Stay tuned for more details as they become available
  20. Is carter having a passing league, I had heard they were going to and the only other team that I heard was in it was Jefferson County, but I am sure there would be more. How about it anyone from that area?
  21. Someone told me supposedly that CSS would like to do Webb @ Powell for week zero, but nothing is official. The person that told me this has also said that they were unsure whether Powell would agree to the telecast.
  22. Dude, Central Bobcats is right. NOBODY AND I MEAN NOOOOOOOBODY would play Central in '03 for fear of being smok'd. And yes, that includes the mighty Falcons. My thinkin is why not take an AW and at least play somebody that is decent competition? And who knows, Fulton might have even beaten Central. You have to take some chances occasionally.
  23. I am sorry I didn't point out that I did not include Catholic, CAK, or Webb in this ranking. Certainly those D-II schools would be ranked in the top 5, but I listed only those Knox public schools.
  24. This year's top 5 are: 1) A-E (EXTREMELY well coached, and loaded with talent) 2) CENTRAL (as UT was overlooked in '98 after '97 results, the Bobcats will shock a few people this season. Less pressure, and players having more fun.) 3) Fulton (will contend for title again if they get by the Roadrunners) 4) Powell ( has a huge offensive line yes, but are they very mobile?) 5) Tie HALLS (will be much improved, and can win at least 7 games) Gibbs (Shocked? Eagles will win at least 5 games in 2004 and may get in the playoffs. )
