  1. No shock, all West in the first half. They are going to be tough to beat.
  2. My lord, Powell has twice as many defensive penalty yards than Ooltewah has offensive yards. Potts with another TD pass to Greene. Panthers leads, 35-7 with just under 3 min left in the half.
  3. Long TD pass from Potts to Redmond. Panthers extend their lead, 28-7 with 5 min left in the half.
  4. Potts with another TD strike, this time to Greene. 21-7, Panthers with 8 min left in the half.
  5. Powell strikes back with a TD pass from Potts to Magdos. 14-7, Powell with 30 sec left in the 1st qtr.
  6. Powell looks incredibly flat. They scored a quick TD on their opening drive, but they were stopped on downs inside the Ooltewah 5 and again inside the Ooltewah 35 on back-to-back drives trying to be fancy. Ooltewah just tied the game on a drive that was aided by a couple of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on the Panthers. 7-7 with 2 min left in the 1st qtr.
  7. At the time, you had "back" and "linemen" categories, but they didn't have winners for each classification. For 5A and 6A, it was a combined AAA award. So the back of the year finalists were Patton Robinette, the QB from Maryville (6A), Brian Kimbrow, the star running back at Memphis East (5A), and I’Tavius Mathers, the eventual winner who was the stud running back at Blackman (6A). It was just unfortunate because all three of those guys were deserving finalists, but to leave out Mobley was certainly a joke, especially when you compare his numbers with the others.
  8. I remember when Dy'shawn Mobley was snubbed in 2011. Wasn't even a finalist. He ran with a pretty big chip on his shoulders that post-season. I would think Latham would react in a similar way.
  9. Rhea County had some pretty lean years in the late 2000s/early 2010s. I'm pretty sure they had a one-win season the year Powell made it to the big game (2011).
  10. Ohio does something similar but for all classifications. Each class is broken into 4 regional quads, and teams are seeded in each quad based on RPI/computer ranking. The quad champs meet in the Final 4. There's also no split between public and private (they use the multiplier).
  11. One other nugget - Rhea County had only played them 5 times before, and won each time. The combined record of those 5 CC teams? 10-41 (half of those wins came last season).
  12. I think OR wins by 10, and the Wildcats score late to put it away. I know that Coffee County is typically a doormat, but this year they are no slouch. Some fun facts about the Red Raiders in 2022: They just had their best regular season in the entire TSSAA playoff era. Only losses were to Page and Franklin County They won their region (in the playoff era) for the first time in program history. The last time they won at least 8 regular season games was back in 1969(!) when they went 9-1. Since 1971, this is just the 5th time they've had a winning record. They've never won a playoff game in their entire history.
  13. Agreed, although I'd add that the Eagles played a brutally tough schedule this year. They played two doormats (Howard and Ooltewah), and beat the brakes off of both. Outside of the close loss to Walker Valley, they took L's against 7 pretty solid teams. OR is playing as well as they have all year, but I think this one will be a lot closer than some think.
  14. Yup, I didn't see him on the field. He's been dinged up a lot this season. Definitely need him on defense.
  15. We'll see which Powell team shows up in November. It's been a weird year for them, especially with all of the injuries they suffered early. The Panthers are pretty healthy right now, which is great, but I'm still waiting for their offense to hit another gear. The defense is their obvious weakness, and while I hope they get a shot at West, this Powell team isn't good enough to take anyone lightly. Walker Valley and Rhea County always have a good defense, Karns has DeSean Bishop, Oak Ridge would love another shot at the Panthers, and McMinn County is also out there lurking.
  16. So many of these kids get offers that only become commitable once other priorities have signed elsewhere. So I don't blame him for jumping over to Coastal. But it also wouldn't shock me if. in the 11th hour. a P5 school swoops in and signs him.
  17. He definitely had better offers. He had offers from VA Tech, Michigan State, and Purdue, as well as Tennessee. Were they "commitable" offers, I don't know for sure. Tennessee didn't appear to prioritize him at all, but I guarantee he will get some looks closer to signing day, once P5 schools find out who they swing/missed on.
  18. 26 carries, 369 yards, and 4 TDs for Bishop last night. That moves him up to 8th in career rushing yards and 11th in rushing TDs.
  19. Because they're in Region 1, they'd see West before they'd see Powell or OR. Region 2 just isn't very good this year, so they should make it to the QFs to take on West, but I guess you never know.
  20. Oh man, I forgot about the EPA waiver.
  21. I don't see it, although he hasn't seen nearly as many touches this season compared to 2021. I think they'll continue to do what they've done this entire year with him, unless he's nursing an injury.
  22. Same with Powell. They added a second set of bleachers in the 2000s, and they had the challenge of building them on a hill on the south side of the field.
  23. Correct. If CC beats OR and Karns beats Clinton, you'd get Oak Ridge (#4) at McMinn County, Campbell County (#3) at Walker Valley, and Rhea County at Karns (#2).
