    MUMFORD HIGH

I do not understand why Mahoney keeps losing jobs in TN high schools: Waverly, Munford, maybe another? He used to be the Head Coach at Murry State when I played at MTSU, replacing Frank Beamer when he left for Virginia Tech. He must know football. Maybe he has trouble relating to high school kids and their parents. Someone know??
  2. Does anyone in Paris know what Coach Webb is going to do. He is a great young defensive mind. It is a shame what happened to him. I have known Coach Webb since our playing days in High school and MTSU, and into our coaching days. They do not come much better than Coach Webb. He will land on his feet. At some point, Henry County will regret kicking out "one of their own". That is awful and the Henry County Schools Administration has "big stones" to do this to their school and football program. Just an opinion from a person that knows Coach Webb personally as a person and coach. Again, has anyone heard what he is going to do? Is he going to sell his new house that he and his wife bought after a promise he would have the opportunity to stay on as coach? Just curious and concerned.
  3. Henry County and Dickson County, and most older Clarksville schools (CHS, NE, NW) have always been linked in all sports wether it is the old district 10-AAA, or regions now. At one time, they were in the region with a few metro schools. Now the region includes the big Williamson County schools (Franklin, Brentwood, Ravenwood) and a few Clarksville schools. Henry County is always going to have to travel across the Tennessee river into Middle Tennessee in order to find games. They are on an "island" in Northwestern Middle Tennessee. That is a lot of directionals.
  4. Can anyone tell me how the Hendersonville wrestler is that was carried off on a stretcher in a finals match at the Harpeth invitational?? I never heard what happened to him. It appeared he got rolled up and he went flat when he landed. Looked scary. I hope he is ok. Fill me in.
  5. OK, I have gotten the feeling back in may hands now. I work for a public school, always have, but I do not really have anything against private schools. I did a little research on games played this year : public vs private/ magnet. (I guess we have been forgetting the public schools that offer special classes that kids from other areas can take to get into their school--free). Publics and private / magnets played 193 regular season games this year. Bare with me: public wins vs private / magnet wins week 0/1 3 wins - 9 wins week 2 13 wins - 13 wins week 3 5 wins - 13 wins week 4 12 wins - 13 wins week 5 9 wins - 7 wins week 6 3 wins - 8 wins week 7 11 wins - 8 wins week 8 3 wins - 10 wins week 9 11 wins - 10 wins week 10 10 wins - 4 wins I may have missed a few, but I think everyone will get the picture. The private/magnet schools won 103 games(53%) to the public schools winning 90(47%). If you go by weeks: The private/magnet schools won 5 weeks, and the public schools won 4 weeks with week 1 being a tie. (13-13). Also, there are a few games with out of state schools wether they are public, private, or magnet. Again I am not necessarily supporting private schools because I have great friends in both leagues, but I do not see what the big fuss is all about. The private/magnet school kids put their pants on just like ours do in public schools. The private/magnet schools may have a little more freedom in selecting coaches and donation money to work with, but for the most part, public schools have better facilities. I will say this, maybe the coaches in public schools better tighten up their chinstraps and get to work. I know from a personal standpoint, I take it personally and will not let anyone outwork me, private/magnet or public. We need to take care of our own house and quit worrying about everyone else. Good luck ALL teams in the future.
  6. Maybe the coaches of public schools in TN should work harder and get their kids in the weight room and a speed program. I do not have a problem playing the private schools. As a player at Dickson County, I was on a team that beat MBA twice and Brentwood Academy once. As a coach, I have been a part of a team at Clarksville Northeast that beat a very good MBA team and lost to a very good Brentwood Academy team in the quarters 7-3. The only advantage that I see a private school may have over public schools is that they do not have to worry about trying to fill a teaching position with a coach like public schools do. Public schools have a hard time filling coaching slots if teaching positions are not available. A lot of public schools have better facilities than private schools. In division I, there are only a handful of private schools that are good year in and year out (DCA, CPA, Boyd-Buchanon, USJ). There might be a couple of more. Ezell had been down for a long time, and I do not see them staying the way they are now in the future. USJ did not dominate everyone this year, etc. I saw a DCA team a couple of years ago get blasted by Collinwood. There are many more examples I can give, but may hands are tired now. We as coaches just need to rededicate ourselves and committ to trying to improve our own programs.
  7. The 'Boro is the geograhpic center of Tennessee. It only makes sense.
  8. Did someone from the Northwest coaching staff jump ship after a great season or was the spot never filled?
  9. Travis Stephens - Clarksville Northeast '94-'97 Jeff Vaughn - Dickson County '87-'89 Many More.......
  10. Coachrop is the man on the air! Does great job for both football and basketball at Creek Wood, then finds a little time to coach football, basketball, and baseball, and host a local radio sports show early Saturday mornings. A little sampling: He eyes it, buys it!!!! Keep up the good work ROP. Your help and support some times goes unnoticed, but you know the people who care and are thankful. Now, how about a few Titans tickets???
  11. According to the Jackson Sun proposal "The Great Divide", Creek Wood High School in DIckson County (35 miles west of Nashville) is in Region 4-3A going East in Playoffs. Livingston Academy (north of Cookeville) and Dekalb County (just Southwest of Cookeville) are in region 5-3 and going west in the playoffs. Surely this cannot be right. I wonder where the Jackson Sun gets their info. I'm sure there are others going in the wrong direction also. Can we actually use the Sun as a guide?

    Henry County

Just wondering if the administration has made any moves on the head coaching position at HC. Also what is Coach Webb going to do?? I do not think Henry County has any idea what they are letting go in regards to Coach Webb. I guess the new coach will have to watch his back and not buy a new home in HC. From what has been said, the word of an administrator is not good enough to keep a job. Just hear say. Any info???
  13. Has Coached Tharpe resigned from Sycamore?? He has done a great job at SHS. What is the scoop? Enquiring minds want to know.
  14. Well said Phil24. Maybe MC should hire Burley to be their coach. It appears he is doing the coaching from the fence and in public anyway, Coach Price is just blowing the whistle. I do not have a stake in MC football, but from watching films of the past and present, Coach Price is doing a great job with the kids he has. With Coach Price at the helm, they won the games they are supposed to win this year. The teams with better players: Mt Pleasant, Wayne County, Collinwood, Gordonsville, and DCA, won for a reason: Better athletes. Coaches play with the hand that he is dealt, along with every other coach in Tennessee. In time, MC will be back on top of the region again. Be patient. In the mean time, the kids that he has to work with need to be accountable for their own play and work hard in the off-season. All the fence-row coaches obviously do not realize the damage they are doing by running their mouths in public. Coach Price is a man, I'm sure he would welcome talking to you face to face, instead of hiding behind your Dell computer.

    Lifting

Many kids will use the excuse of playing other sports as a reason not to lift weights. Lifting weights and stretching will make kids better in all sports. You may have to have a dedicated coach to ask him to supervise a weightroom all year, but most coaches are willing to because they are in this business for the kids. Keep lifting weights and your kids (players) will improve.
  16. Moving to 3 classes for regular season, back to old districts (basketball), then go back to 5 classes for playoffs. This cuts down on travel costs, easier to schedule, brings back natural rivalries, and most important: TSSAA loses no $$$$'s. Ha Ha Ha. The plan will eliminate the 1-9, 2-9,etc. records in the playoffs. Finally!! Let me know if this what other coaches have heard also.
  17. Coachchris & NW, great year and good luck in the offseason. This is where champions are made. Being a part of Clarksville athletics at one time, I realize that the deck is stacked against the kids in Clarksville because of the budget, lack of support from the top, etc. To have a year like NW had is something to be proud of. Give the kids all the credit in the owrld, it is our job as coaches to give them a push in the right direction and help them steer clear of obstacles along the way of their journey. Good luck to all still remaining in the playoffs, public or private.
  18. Mods, Do not lock this thread because Bulldog says so. Bulldog has been badgering Coachchris from the get-go (sometimes deserved). Coachchris is just giving some back to Bulldog. Just bring it guys. You guys should really get together and straighten this out. Whoever has the chalk last wins. Maybe you guys can meet in the hospitality room at the Blue Cross Bowl and discuss football.
  19. Coachchris, Can't you see that Bulldog is trying to get you riled up this morning? You have challenged him to meet you at the Hillsboro-Stratford game to talk and discuss football. You know as well as I do that he will not show up and meet you. He will hide behind his Dell Computer screen and keep talking on this forum. I agree with Bulldog on the fact that you and Eaglefan get overzealous and talk "I" quite a bit, but at the same time, the staff at NW finally got something out of the players for the first time in school history. It is a shame to have the talent NW has had for over 30 years and it is just now coming to life. For that you should be applauded. Just tone down the "I" factor. Good Luck next year. Remember, Bulldog will not show up Friday night.
  20. I have already posted once about the talent level at Moore County. I have seen Moore County play in the past, and I have seen Moore County play this year, both via film. "The eye in the sky does not lie". They do not, repeat, do not have the same talent they have had in the past(especially skill positions). That is not the coaches or kids fault. I do not think anyone on here has bashed the kids. They cannot help it. No one has bashed the kids character. Fact is fact. From another coach, Coach Price has done a great job with the talent level of kids he has. Again, I do not think anyone has gotten on here and bashed the kids that play for Moore County. I do not know Coach Price personally, but it obvious that he has done a good job at Moore County. First of all, he has to put with the men on the fence row telling everyone how they could do a better job than he is. They may be good men, but with the wrong agenda. That is not how it is supposed to be. The kids can here this, and they are suppposed to be focused on the game and doing their job???? That makes it hard for everyone involved. Get off his back and let the man coach! If you want to coach, then get on the internet and earn a degree and do your student teaching. It is a lot easier to get a degree now than it was in the past. You do not have to even quit your job now. Afterwards, see if you really want to put in the hours. If not, then Put up or shut up. Hang in there coach. From other coaches across the mid-state, you are doing a great job.

    Ensworth

I can't believe that there is not much interest from anyone on the Ensworth teaching/coaching positions. Are they going to open it up, or do they already know who will be in place?
  22. Houston County - 46 Stewart County - 14
  23. AAAAHHHH Yes, DC v HC in the ole' days of District 10-AAA. Great Battles! DIckson County has an enrollment of around 1500-1600. The new Creeek Wood school has around 800-850. Henry County would be best served to stay 4-A because of the travel involved in 4-A. Will Coach Chuck Adams be interested in the job. I understand that he was in administration at one time but got out so he could coach again?
  24. Not real classy to have a moderator on here bashing a member of the media. Maybe we should close this thread because of Del. Maybe Del will close it himself after he realizes he cannot do what he tells others they cannot do this forum. The guy he is bashing maybe the worst that has ever lived, but keep that to yourself, Del.
  25. I do not think the game will be won on the O-Line. These 2 teams have great athletes who will make their own plays. When these backs get to LB level, it is the team that will make tackles who will win. Defense, and kicking game must be vital this week. Northwest is somewhat 1-deminsional with their running game, although very successful. Stratford can run the ball and throw the ball very well--Advantage Stratford. In my heart, I want NW to win because they are an old member of District 10-AAA, but it will be very difficult to contain Stratford. Also, when 2 teams meet in the playoffs from the same region, they use the officials organizations from home area. If this is the case, then the crew in Friday's game know the problem that NW has with penalties. Nashville officials. I hope this is not the case, and correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe NW can overcome the "Clarksville Syndrome".
