  1. I don't think there is any question that Rockwood was that bad. The game reminded me of the BBS v. Notre Dame game. I think Cascade would have had no problem with Rockwood. I think I have been to every playoff game BBS has played since 1999 and Rockwood was the most inferior team BBS has played in that time, certainly that deep in the bracket. Rockwood had nothing.
  2. You obviously aren't from East Tennessee or you would know that it is not "Mary ville". That is how Yankees say it. The proper pronunciation is Mur ville or Meer ville.
  3. Most of South Pittsburg's players come from North Jackson County, Alabama. Go there any day classes are in session and see how many Alabama cars are parked there. It is a well known fact in the area that players move between those schools freely. One year they live with one parent in South Pitt and the next with Uncle Joe in Bridgeport. Alcoa and Maryville are open enrollment schools. A lot of their stars come from outside of their "zoned" area. Why is it that you think Alcoa and Maryville can build their tradition from "been there the whole time" students and a private school can't? Same ole' Antwan.
  4. You have to understand that with these people, any is unacceptable.
  5. Watch out. Those folks from Cloudville don't take to be reminded that their team just ain't what it once was.
  6. Because I pay my taxes just like you. My kids have every right to play in the State sponsored, tax supported, system as your kids. If you don't want my kids playing in the State sponsored, tax supported program, give me back my tax money.
  7. I am fortunate enough to get to be on the visitor's sideline for all of the Boyd home games, and have been for several years. I have seen teams from Copper Basin to Baylor to Knox Fulton to CPA. I have probably been on that sideline watching coaching staffs that have 8 or 10 state championships, at least. Smith County has one of the best coaching staffs I have ever seen. The head coach was excellent. He never wore a headset and he let his assistant coaches do their job. The defensive coordinator probably has a few less inches around his posterior this morning as the result of a couple of things the head coach didn't like, but they all did a very good job. It was an excellent football game. Great coaching, great players, great fans, and a great atmosphere. That is what high school is all about.

  9. You won't find a post on here where I have berated, degraded or ridiculed a public school. I have never made a comment about their kids as being lazy, anticompetition, or whiners. I have never used a denigrating epithet about a player, a team, or a coach. I do think that the drive to institute a multiplier and to split the private schools from the public schools was, and continues to be, anticompetition. Your "middle schoolers should play in the NFL if they want competition" is simply not in line with any state athletic association, baseball (rookie, A, AA, AAA), college athletics, NFL, NASCAR, boxing, NBA, NHL, I could go on and on and on and on.
  10. I think that is not accurate. The TSSAA may not receive all of it funding DIRECTLY from tax dollars, but it does receive some direct funding DIRECTLY from the State of Tennessee and indirectly from member schools that are funded with tax dollars. Again, to all of you anticompetition people, why should my kids be shut out of participating in State funded competition, simply because they go to a private school?
  11. Why shouldn't my kids be able to compete for the same postseason titles? The State of Tennessee takes my tax money from me and then runs a secondary school athletic association. My kids have just as much right to compete as anyone else.
  12. Ditto. I suspect this won't be a happy practice week over on TyHi drive.
  13. If one private school wins one state championship in football, the anticompetition crowd is going to call the multiplier a failure.
  14. That is obviously a plant. I saw it when it first came up and I am shocked the moderators let it go as long as they have. It should have been closed or moved immediately. With the itchy trigger finger they have about closing threads, I thought it would be gone.
  15. I don't. I am simply asking if he is being complete in his use. If the schools that the privates played were equally bad against other publics, what do his statistics prove? For instance take his weekly, pointless public v. private thread. For last week, the private schools won 14 of 25 games (56% private wins, 44% public wins). The records of those public schools that lost were a combined 58-88 (39% wins). Soooooooo, did they do better agains the privates than they do in their normal schedule or worse. According to laz, he would say the privates had an advantage. Go figure!
  16. If the current forecast holds true, the field will be a mess. It was very muddy in places when I was there this afternoon. They are currently calling for upwards of 2 inches of rain between now and midnight Friday and it will likely be raining and very windy during the game. It is going to be a miserable night.
  17. Now, let's see if you really did your home work or if you just got some statistics to spout in order to support your obvious bias (affluent v. non-affluent): What as the record of those same public schools against their public school opponents during that same period of time?
  18. When do you begin and end your statistical analysis? Most people who deal with analyzing "trends" will tell you that in order to reach conclusions, you must see those trends over a long period of time. Do small private schools seem to have an advantage over the past few years? Yes. Is that proof that trend is permanent? No. Have private schools won more TSSAA awarded state championships than public schools? No. Have private schools won more TSSAA awarded state championships in the past several years than public schools? I don't really know the answer to that, but in the only sport that matters, football, yes. Is that proof that trend is permanent? No. These things ebb and flow. Take Boyd Buchanan, for instance. They were the doormat of Tennessee football until about 1996. Their then president inadvertently became the head football coach, not by design or desire. BBS had about 10 really good years. Most of the boys who were responsible for that success were in elementary school AT BBS when the success started. Now, BBS is no where near as good as it has been. Their new coach will take some time to mature. Is BBS proof that all privates should be segregated to their own class? I say no. And, I say that anyone who says they are doesn't know their football from a hole in the ground. These things ebb and flow. If, in 20 years, the trend is the same, then we will have something to talk about. But, I still believe the desire of most to be rid of private schools has nothing to do with the promotion of "participation and sportsmanship to develop good citizens through interscholastic athletics, which provide equitable opportunities, positive recognition and learning experiences to students while maximizing the achievement of educational goals."
  19. You left out the most important factor: MUDDY, SLOPPY FIELD (Because it is going to rain from Wednesday night through Friday afternoon and the field is already very muddy): Advantage Boyd since Tyner relies on its speed so much. Mud will negate speed. Probably gonna be closer than most folks think.
  20. You sure run that mouth a lot for a week that you aren't playing either team this thread is about?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
  21. Do you know how many teams have winning records now? $$$$$$$$$ is what it is all about.
  22. $$$$$ Under the current classification system in Division I, there are 155 games in the playoffs taking 32 teams from each classification. If you reduce that to 16 teams per classification, the number of games drops to 75. Those other 80 games account for at least $1,500,000.00, just in ticket sales. That doesn't include concessions and parking and programs and hats and banners and stickers and gasoline etc, etc. If you had one classification and took, say, 64 teams, you lose another several hundred thousand dollars. One classification equals a lot less money.
  23. I think we are saying the same thing. I just left out the explanation.
