  1. I saw an advertisement for an excellent camp the other day - "How to re-live the glory days through your kids." Sounds like some of you all may have attended.
  2. Any of you that have any football sense at all know that what happens in summer passing leagues has absolutely no effect on what happens once August rolls around. I've seen many good passing league teams that end up being cellar dwellers by Christmas. None of the teams mentioned will be contenders unless they are 2-deep across both lines of scrimmage. Having a few speedsters really doesn't matter when you're seeing Maryville, Central, Powell, and Halls week in and week out. Is there really any difference in 56-0 and 56-14?
  3. I can guarantee you that the gate for this game would probably be the biggest for both schools.
  4. Sounds like I missed a good scrimmage. Why don't these 2 teams schedule each other in the fall? I would guess that it would be the largest gate of the year for either team. 2 observations: First, about the extra-curricular stuff after the play...I'm not sure that is going to show you who has "heart." Allowing it to happen in practice or an intra-squad scrimmage is one thing, but I'm not sure about against another team. I would rather have a guy who runs over someone between the whistles and then comes back smilin and helping the wounded one up off the turf, never saying a word. Secondly, I read where AE had a "new-look" offense. No more wing-t, huh? What kind of offense are they running now? The trend seems to be towards a shotgun, 3 & 4 wide set. Is the wing-t on it's way out?
  5. Most teams I've seen run the Wing-T usually fold-block at the point of attack when running the belly. . Alot of it depends on what kind of look you're getting defensively. On the inside belly (2 or 3 hole) the Guard and Tackle will fold block. On the outside belly (4 or 5 hole) the Tight End and Tackle will fold block. The problem you may run into is with a well-coached DE who will read the down block and come screaming down the line off the down block, basically engaging the second part of the fold block at the point of attack and causing the ball carrier to adjust his path. In this case, you're pulling lineman's best bet is to aim for the outside shoulder of the DE and just try to cave him down, rather than kicking him out. This is also a good adjustment if the DE slants hard inside before the lineman downblocking has a chance to release. Just go ahead and block him down and the pulling lineman will kick the next man he runs into. The belly is, in my opinion, one of the best plays in the Wing-T playbook. The defense gets used to all the lateral movement and motion of the bucksweep series and then you hammer them with a fold block and a lead blocker with the belly series. Hope it helps!
  6. Weedman, Your lack of respect for the original game of "football" thouroughly disgusts me and every other soccer fanatic on here. There is just way to much violence in football. We all need to come together and feel the love on the soccer field. I hope you rethink your assenine position.
  7. The real question should be, "Does anyone really care about this game?" It's a non-region game that has no playoff implications. Each team should be concentrating on which 3 teams they will beat to get in the playoffs. My opinion - Fulton will beat them down and make them like it.
  8. I wonder if he uses the same pep talk when he calls a timeout when his team has the ball 4th & 1 on the goalline? "Come on guys, we've got to punch it in, just like when you've got that good looking girl on the couch!"
  9. Welcome back snag. I was beginning to wonder if your disappearance from this board had anything to do with those "bunker-busting bombs" over in Iraq. Good to see that you survived. Based on Dilweed and 4afans non-appearances, I'm afraid they may have got them.
  10. Both schools should drop football and concentrate on soccer
  11. What exactly happened at this Powell game you speak of? Let me guess - someone said something you didn't agree with and you "smacked the piss out of em?"
  12. Captain morgan, just wait til my brother gets home. We'll be up there, by God!
  13. Captain Morgan, are you an administrator on here? I didn't think so. Us maryville fans will read and post where and when we feel like it. Now, as far as you slamming Carl and Lee. Let me ask you a question - did your hornets have any kids sign a D-1 scholarship this year? Whether or not these kids play at the next level is a mute point. The point is that they received scholarships to play SEC caliber ball. If your team did have someone to receive a scholarship, I'm sure all the maryville faithful would join me in wishing them the best of luck. Can't you do the same? 14. bigcat, do you teach all of the student-athletes that you care so much about the same self-restraint that you exhibit on here? Someone with your attitude should never be allowed to deal with kids. Any credibility you may have had is now gone.
  15. red, no one responds to your posts because they are truly assenine. Get your freaking facts straight. Catlett NEVER coached at Halls. He coached with Kerr at AC. He coached LB's and defense at Webb under Meske. The reason 4A fan mentioned him staying at Clinton 2 more years is because they have a good group of young kids that should develop into a good group of athletes during that time. Gaylor, not Gaylord, had coached at Clinton as an assistant for awhile before becoming head coach, so he wasn't looked at as an "outsider."
  16. rebel, so-called fans like you give the rest of us maryville faithful a bad name.
  17. Who pulled your chain, rebelron? The only one doing any acting on here is you - acting like you're a semi-intelligent human being when we all know that's not the case!
  18. bigdog, I'm not "bashing" anything. All I'm pointing out is that Carter fans need to be realistic in their expectations.
  19. Bigboy, you are a perfect example of what can go wrong when parents leave their kids unattended on the computer.
  20. I used to struggle in the bench also, but not anymore. I got some of those concrete weights, but didn't fill them up with anything. I throw several 45 plates on there and throw it around like it's nothing, meanwhile impressing everybody. The key is you can't let anyone spot you or use your weights. Tell em you bought em and to keep their paws off em. You'll also have to take em home with you everyday, but that's a small price to pay.
  21. Central has a zoned attendance boundary just like every other school in Knox Co.'s school system, so enough of this "open - zoned" b.s. However, there are some creative transfers that do take place and there are a couple of numbers that come into play here. For example, if you run a sub 4.8 forty and bench around 300, then you will be told to transfer to Central because you want to take a class there that your zoned school doesn't offer. On the other hand, if you can't break 5.5 on your forty or bench your body weight, then that class is probably already full. As far as I'm concerned, this is a moot point. Everyone knows what happens and it's not going to change, so what's the point in arguing about it? The way I see it, other Knox Co. schools need to throw their ethics out the window and join the fray, or sit back and cry about it while Central continues to tune them like a cheap piano every year!
  22. If that's true, I bet all h#*& breaks lose in fountain city.
  23. I heard Shepard was going to a 5-wide, no huddle package. Sounds like their WR coach is going to be busier this year.
  24. Let's see: 1. Looking good in spring practice against a bunch of scrubs, 2. Winning 3 region games last year, 2 of which were against teams who won less than 5 games combined, 3. Not beating Maryville since the days of leather helmets, I think these guys have a point. On second thought, I see no reason why Carter can't win the region! Give me a break. Again, there's only one explanation here. The Iraqi Information Minister has found new employment in Strawplains. His message has changed from "I swear we're winning this war!" to "I swear we're winning this region!"
