  1. Thank you for the compliment. My son plays and I was proud of them. My son and another boy are freshman and were starters. They had a junior and a 8th grader that started most of the season. One senior #30. The one that can shoot the lights out. #30 told the rest of the team at halftime after he got 15 points that he wanted the others to shoot so he passed the ball off a lot more. He had been the main scorer all season he said he had his time and the game was out of reach. I commend him for that.
  2. As referenced above, there were a couple of transfers a couple a years ago that were legit by the book transfers. Yes, the basketball team benefited. They were very good two years ago and could have possibly went further but the sickness bug hit at the wrong time and with no depth that was it. Last year there were foreign exchange students played a couple of games but, the school found something wrong with paperwork and had to not let them play anymore. Yes, I am on here from time to time and yes I am involved with the baseball team at the school (my son plays). On side note, the baseball team is going to be pretty good but, word must have got out. We contacted all three other schools in Marion County and only Whitwell returned our call and was willing to play us. The other two never returned our call.
  3. Richard Hardy is it's own school system. They would not be included in consolidation because they are not part of the Marion County School System.
  4. Check with PowerP. I gave him some info that I had put together and acquired back during my radio days in the 90's. I think it went back to the early 30's at least. Also, I gave a copy to that Hargis man about 10 years ago because some of the info in his paper was incorrect. I hope this helps.
  5. Not sure exactly. I think they have about 19 wins. They played in a holday tournament in Atlanta and did pretty well. Considering their depth is not really there.
  6. As mentioned depth is the issue. Stay out of foul trouble they are different team. They led van buren at the half in December. Foul trouble has been the issue all three games against them. It may end in Sparta but they beat a team they were predicted to get beat by 24. Without knowing what kind of team they are.
  7. RHMS is a lot better than the credit they are getting. Their record is incorrect on coach t. I put their starting 5 against anyone. Number 1 is awesome just wish he wasn't a senior. Depth is their only problem.

. The main thing is Richard Hardy is down in girls basketball. Few years ago the girls were pretty good. The boys were down. Now, the boys are pretty good this year (just ask Jackson co Rhms won 58 to 48 tonight). The main thing is there was a member of district 5 petitioned the tssaa and moved them to district 4. That gave district 5 only 4 teams.
  9. Chattanooga made a very serious effort to get it. They were highly disappointed when they didn't.
  10. The details provided for the 1985 and 1986 are incorrect. We played Lake Co. in 1985 and except for some gutsy play from Chris Ferrell would have gotten beat worse than we did. Sisco did have a long run but Ferrell's scrambling ability kept SP in the game. Kenny Flagg for Lake Co. pretty much dominated the Pirate D. SP had only one offensive play in the whole 4th qtr. and it was a int. Combine your details you have for 85 and 86 and you pretty much have it. Except the 86 game against Spring Hill went to OT.
  11. If it can be worked out I guarantee you Vic would schedule it. Because for one reason the game has proved it would make money. That is the reason SP still plays Boyd when they don't have to. Besides games like last Friday night makes both teams better.
  12. Well, I have been reading everyday almost to stay caught on all the "talk". Here is my opinion on this game. First of all, SP needs to stay disciplined and stay at home on defense. We play an aggressive style on defense but, that type of defense may not be the right one to use against an offense like Signal's at least sometimes. There should aggressive defenses called during the game just not every play. Sometimes read and react will do just fine especially when the other team is expecting blitzes every down. I think very highly Coach Wilson and I guarrantee you he will have the defense ready. Offensively, SP will do a lot of what they have been doing in my opinion but, I would mix in some under center and full house back field and run right at them SP has the guys to pull that style of play off too. Hopefully, SP gets the win. Just remember it only takes one point because I really don't see a blowout for either team.
  13. I think he meant winning it all instead of coming up short like 93 & 98. At least that is the way I read it.
  14. Kirkpatrick did graduate in the spring of 1984. Yes, the 1989 first round game was a classic. I still have it on VHS and watch it when I get the opportunity. I do believe that Wheaton got in for one play against Vandy in his senior season. If Wheaton had not got hurt against SP in that playoff game not only would the outcome of that game been a lot different but his career would have been different too. I still remember sitting in the stands during the first part of that game almost sick because I was thinking of how bad we could have gotten beat.
  15. We lost 13-12 against Sequatchie. Whitwell beat us 10-7 in OT. That game Ferrell got hurt and didn't return until playoffs. If I am not mistaken our record was 11-4 counting the championship game. The regular season record was 6-3.
  16. Yes, we played Stevenson in 1986. SP lost that game in OT 14-7. We did break the losing streak against Stevenson in 1984. Then, we beat them in 1985 on homecoming and that was the game that Sisco reversed field and outran the whole Stevenson team to the goalline. We played Stevenson for the last time in 1986. We did play Bridgeport in 1987 and won 13-7 in a very lackluster game. SP was a lot better than Bridgeport that year but didn't play very good against the tigers and squeaked a 6 point win.
  17. Yes, they are busy. SP's style of play will be more us Pirate fans are used to that is run the ball and pass only if needed. But, as usual like last year offense won't be a problem. Defense will be the goal for improvement. SP will be in the hunt as usual so UC needs to worry about west and SP will worry about the east and who knows it could be a rematch. A lot of time between now and December SP's spring practice doesn't start until May.
  18. I thought I would post a comment about this since it was brought back up. I don't post much but guarrantee you when I do it is with thought and it will have some insight. Okay, Congrats UC on the win you beat SP the way SP usually plays. This year we scrapped our regular offense for a more finesse style of play which some of us diehards (not the boasters) didn't like a whole lot. Yes, offensively we were very good in 2009 and really wasn't stopped except the first half of the Polk game but then in the second half they had no answer either. The Boyd game was without #6 and we were still in the game. You guys had the perfect game plan you used your offense to play defense. Whether you admit it or not you couldn't stop SP (we stopped ourselves a couple of times) but we only stopped you guys a handful of times but your style of play kept the ball away from the Pirate offense. Keep away was your best defense and that style of play what some of us older more seasoned SP followers remember when we would do the same to teams in the past. Congrats on the win and one thing you have to remember (because we have been there) enjoy it because now there is a bullseye on your back.
  19. I agree OP. I have said all year that we weren't as good as the 07 and 08 teams. We were slightly better than the 06 team because the 09 team had a little better senior leadership. Now it is time to bury that spread playbook and get back playing "Pirate Football" whether it be wing-t, Power-I or side-saddle singlewing. The running backs are there to run the football and throw when needed. Defensive line will need better techinique. I sat next to the living legend coach at two games (Jasper & UC) who used to coach our lines and both occasions he could not get over the poor technique by our line on both sides of the ball. I think SP will be pretty good but how good is unknown. Spring practice will let us fans know at least a glimpse of how good they could be. Yes, they need to hit the weights and hit them hard.
  20. Get a grip. We kept you guys in the game when we fumbled on one of our first posessions and caused us to lose a down. We also tried to help ya'll out when we tried to pass. No question that the refs helped ya'll on the two point conversion. Your defensive ends were big boys, just got pushed out of the way. What exactly am i supposed to grip. I stated facts about the game. I don't post much but when I do guarrantee you it will be objective and it will not put any other team down in any way. Both offenses were very good. They both had over 300 yards of offense. The defenses were another story. Both weren't very good. I think I will go and grip some hay bales since there is farm work needs to be done. This my OBJECTIVE take on the game and I am sure other people including ones from UC will agree.
  21. Okay, here is my take on the game. Some of my Pirate brethren was very boastful which concerned me. Because it was reminding of before the Polk game. I asked some questions before the game and people who knew more about UC than I did said that there were good on offense and their defense wasn't as good. The size difference was probably the biggest difference with UC offense. Yes, the running back for UC took some licks and you could see before halftime he was starting to slow a little but in the second half especially when UC had the momentum that he was able to overcome and dig deep and that is exactly what he did. The reason the QB and the sweeps were so successful is because SP started keying on the dive play and did not keep the outside contained. It could have been by design or poor execution. Neither defense could stop the other offense and it was very obvious. Sp's 2 turnovers was in my opinion the difference in the game. The 15 yard penalty that helped UC on their last drive could also be argued as the difference in the game. The referees for the most part let them play and I am glad they did because there could easily been a few more penalties called on both teams that weren't. Okay, to sum it up it was a difference in styles and the smash mouth won but not to say the finesse style could not have won too would be ridiculous. Both teams were very good and believe it or not both deserved to win but one had to lose. SP will now (I hope) go back to Pirate football which is ..... you guessed it ..... smash mouth football. Congrats to both teams and to UC enjoy it .... because now there is a bulls eye on your back.
  22. How was "YOUR" ride home my little Pirate? Ours was FUN....GRIN~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ask him after the 2A game since he is a Boyd supporter.
  23. It doesn't really matter who is better than who Terrell is a very good player and he is what makes the offense go because of his qb abilities by no means is SP a one show. The guy from TCA may be as good or better but it doesn't matter TCA is looking towards next year. This whole conversation is crazy. They both seem to be good players and lets leave it at that.
  24. Actually chubb was 81 and 82... Chris Jones was 83 84 and Randy Kirkpatrick was qb Johnny major's took Zalmer Chubb to knoxville were most everyone in this town knows now.. he outran Willie Gault.. he was just that fast.. Carl lehr was 85 sisco was 86 i do believe.. PS lets dont forget the man that went as far as eddie Moore has and was a beast!!! Bo Haden.... we all know Bo Chubb's last season was 1982, Kirkpatrick's last season was 1983, Jones' was 1984, Sisco's last season was 1985, Lehr's last season was 1986. There some other good ones after that Ferrell and Cummings in 1987, Patrick Pitts in 88 and 89. So in the 80's SP had some very good football players. We also had some very good ones in the 60's and 70's also. More recent 90's and 2000's has had some studs too. SP hasn't really lacked talent in a while when they have had a down year or two it has been because the talent had been young.
  25. Okay, here is my take on the last 12 or 14 minutes of the game. We had started substituting right before the 3rd quarter ended. A player here and a player there. Then, when the 4th quarter started was when the mass substituting started. Now, fast forward to the series of downs in question. SP was pinned deep and with the backup QB warming up on the sidelines Vic sent #6 back out to get some breathing room. I am sure that was what he was thinking when the little down & out to get the first down was called. Because a TD by G-ville would slow the clock back down and I think he was trying to keep the running clock going. The first down was accomplished with one or two starting lineman and #6 still in the game. What #51 did was uncalled for and also some of the other "dirty deeds" that some of the other players done was really pathetic. What was so stupid on their part was a couple of times it was 3rd down and they had us stopped and had a unsportsmanlike called on them to keep our drive going instead of the ball getting punted back to them. That whole 4th quarter was the worst sportsmanship I had ever seen in high school football. I did have a lot of respect for G-ville but after last night (seniors or not) the same respect is not there.
