  1. I've seen these threads started before - New Poster to CoachT asking a random Question about a particular school only one day after joining? ckyfan - could you be going to Junior day - and looking for someone to publicize it?
  2. To Review Why would TJ leave Giles after 1 year? Wether you anticipated the drive or not - it gets old quick. He went to Giles out of respect to an old friend leaving the program - and with promises that may not have been kept. One question not answered - simply speculated, was why hel left a program in Wilco that he built in just 3 years. Getting back to Williamson County Football is a no brainer if the opportunity presents itself. Why BGA? Why Not? Better pay, better community support (Better Football Community compared to Giles County - no offense) Better for the wife and dog Rebel, Focus on Football...... I hope for BGA it is true - Tim will rebuild the program and get their football numbers up (player participation and Wins)
  3. I agree taht for franklin to be successfull they have to score both inside and outside, however I would love to see tapes from the past few games - because live - I swear we missed more layups and putbacks than we made. Use the GLASS!!!
  4. Franklin will do fine as long as they are playing district 11 AAA teams, once they get to Regions - I am betting 1 and done. Too many fundamental lapses, and the three's that were falling earlier this season are clanking of late.
  5. Four the past 4 games Franklins shooting has been horrible. It seems very similar to last year, when they scorched the nets early then faded after January 1. The rebels don't seem to be squaring up to the basket, and has the art of using the glass when in tight been lost with this group? They keep letting far less talented teams hang around - this one should have been over at halftime.
  6. I went to the game hoping to see a great athletic match up, and unfortunately the Ref's took that away. These three blind mice stole a game from the fans. Both ways they missed obvious calls, and saw phantom ones. I really wanted to see the game that these two teams could have provided, only to see a game that lacked any flow. I am amazed that the Ref's haad enough wind left to sprint out of the gym with how often they were out of breath blowing the whistle. In all honesty, they were not accustomed to the quick defensive hands - and typically assumed a foul was committed. Good luck to both teams in their respective districts, and hopefully the officiating will equal the talent on the floor.
  7. Raven - don't be so quick to assume Brentwood or Gallatin want a quarterfinal matchup with Franklin rather than Ravenwood. Last two years Franklin Eliminated Brentwood, and 3 years ago Franklin knocked off Gallatin at Gallatin in the playoffs. Both Ravenwood and Franklin bring a tough quarterfinal matchup for whoever survives the BHS GHS tilt, as do BHS and GHS to the winner of FHS RHS.
  8. Thanks for the spell check! Most teams are hobbled by this point in the season - so depth comes into play at all positions, don't know enough about Ravenwood this year, but Franklin has plenty of depth at all positions. I will agree with you that Franklin was a better squad last year, but this years team is making their own statements and writing their own chapter.
  9. before everybody jumps on ftballkickers last post - he was in an auto accident on his way back to Knoxville on Sunday - mild concussion
  10. Lifer - this sounds much the same as LAST YEAR when Antioch faithfull came on here and said - Antioch was the better team and should have won. Also saying if this is all FHS has then they don't have much is again much the same as last year when every other 5A team were watching FHS play on December 4th. AS for this week, Franklin will take the win from AHS and learn from it! I say that based on the numerous dropped psases and other mistakes made by Franklin in last weeks game. Also, the secondary will play much better than the first meeting when on at least 2 4th down plays Ravenwood came up with big completions for scores. I don't see this as a blowout for either team, but I won't make a prediction of a winner - it's a toss up game.
  11. Back to football - and off the political soap box! (not that your views are not respected - just prefer your insights to this storied match up!!) Great game as usual - all the drama, packed house, just not for the top spot in the region, but bragging rights all the same! Mikrut will have to make smart decisions in this game in order for the offense to work. Mcurdy will need to take this game on his shoulders - and he has the shoulders to do that. Looking forward to being at another clssic battle (just a little less dramatic than the past 3 years with my son graduated)
  12. no one is saying Franklin isn't good because they lost to Ryan, what is being said is Franklin is not the team or program that everyone in Franklin has grown accustomed to seeing play on Friday nights the past 3 years. A team that wasn't pushed around by anyone - regardless of talent level. A team that showed a never quit mentality. A team that quietly went about their business, but made their presence felt loud and clear in the trenches. Ryan came in coached up, Franklin did not. Ryan executed, Franklin did not, Ryan played 48 minutes, Franklin did not. I have sat in the stands or in the booth the past 3 years at Franklin and always felt regardless of the score, our guys could come back and win (including Riverdale last year) because the boys were prepared and had the desire to continue to compete to the final whistle. That passion seems to have left coincidently with Coach Johnson.
  13. Right Now the only top ten Franklin belongs in is a poll of biggest disappointments. It's going to be up to the players to pull together, the coaches to prepare them better, and the fans to stay behind them.
  14. a question was asked if the coaching cost franklin the game or if the players on the field are at fault. All I can say is I am shocked at all the changes that have been brought in at FHS. Camp changed to be nothing more than practice, Max 2 hour practice, Skipping Practice on Monday, Skipping Practice on Thursday, Not watching film or breaking down film of your opponent - what result did could anyone expect. The players were ill prepared to compete in this contest and it showed. I haven't seen a Franklin team pushed around in the previous three years, now I've seen it at Oakland and again last night. There seems to be a lack of discipline, heart, and pull in the same direction - and that has to start with the coach. I no longer have a player at Franklin, and in all honesty I am extremely happy that my son played for the previous coach who instilled heart, passion, and an incredible will to outwork and outperform any and all opponents. Maybe last nights result will wake this staff up, and I hope the remaining coaches who worked for Tim Johnson have a heart to heart with Coach Clayton and bring back the Blue Collar attitude to this proud Program.
  15. Good Luck to UT as well this weekend, as one of Franklins own will be dressed in Orange and White ready to take down UAB! Good Luck Rebels, VOLs, and ftballkicker!
  16. Franklin better not get to comfortable at 2 - 0. Sloppy tackling, secondary needs to tighten up, running game needs work (take away 2 big runs and not much else to get excited with). It's been a long time since I saw anyone be tougher than Franklin - but tonight I thought Oakland pushed us around. I will say, Good teams make their own breaks - tonight, a blocked field goal returned 70 yards, and an interception at the goal line stopping another Oakland drive was the difference in the game. Oakland looked as good as advertised, crisp passing attack, good ground game, just too many turnovers. Franklin needs to get their heads on and eliminate the mental mistakes - 13 penalties last wek, 12 tonight. Good to be 2 - 0, lots to improve on.
  17. Most franklin fans don't thrive on other teams and other communities misfortunes. I truly hope this rivalry continues, as the fans from Fayetteville have been fantastic to talk football with, regardless of the outcome! Good Luck the rest of the year!
  18. 2priceless - It's tough to score on kickoffs when the ball is in the endzone for a touchback! Grandaddy has developed another great kicker in the long line of kickers from Franklin High School: Colby Smith - MTSU David Campbell - University of Tennessee David Defatta - Marshall University John Bell, if he continues to kick as well as he did last night, will join this list and be playing at a D1 program as well!
  19. If your source is correct, it is good news for the rest of Region 6-5A. I have a ton of respect for Coach Nowell, and the thought of a very predictable Centennial squad being unpredictable scared the living daylights out of me!
  20. I too saw Indy's squad - spring game against Glencliff (I know, it was just a spring game) - and I came away thinking it Indy was a little slow off the ball. They may break a play or two, but sustaining drive after drive against the Region 6-5A teams will be a challenge. Defensively, I didn't see enough bulk to hold opposing offenses out of the endzone. No disrespect intended, just simply a new YOUNG program. In time, if they can keep the coaching staff in place, and kids keep working - they too will be another tough Williamson County team to reckon with.
  21. You may battle with Page (3A), but you will find the likes of Franklin, Ravenwood, Brentwood, Centennial, Dickson Couty, and Columbia too big, too fast, too strong, and too deep to hang with for 4 qtrs. I see six losses to those clubs, with the Northeast game a toss up (mainly due to my lack of knowledge of Northeast). Don't know your other 2 non region games, so giving the benefit of the doubt - at best 4 wins and 6 losses, more than likely 2 - 8 or 3 - 7. Winning in 6-5A takes a while, Ravenwood is one extreme that few programs can match. Centennial on the other hand is more what most can expect. First playoffs in 2002 (6th varsity season)
  22. Your assessment of Columbia last year pretty much describes their week 1 game with Franklin, decent running attack, terrible passing atack. If I am not mistaken they threw 4 picks in that game, as well as gave up 3 fumbles for 7 turnovers total. With a one dimensional attack, easy to defend - put 8 0r 9 in the box, and dare them to throw!
  23. I happened to be in Alcoa this past weekend, and on Monday July 4 there were a lot of people on Alcoa's field, with whistles sounding. I am not from the Knoxville area, so I don't know if the gentlemen blowing whistles were coaches, but it cought me by surprise to see individuals on the field running drills.
  24. Columbia - folks south of Williamson County will call last years Franklin Victory over CC lucky, most others would call it doing what you had to do to win a ball game. Holding CC to 6 points after CC scored over 50 the week earlier, showed Franklin knew how to play defense, and shut down CC on 4 plays inside the 5 yard line late in the game. 7 Turnovers caused by the Rebels also shut down CC when Franklin needed it as the Rebel offense was still figuring out the new schemes that were implemented for last season. I see the Rebels (Co - Region Champs the past 2 years) making the playoffs again, but I think this may be the year the Raptors win it.
  25. After having three sons go through the college acceptance merry go round, I do know more emphasis is placed on Standardized Test Scores than GPA. Too much variation school to school, school district to school district, and state to state, to have enough faith in GPA's comparitives.
