Mt. Juliet - 3, Cascade 2. Is that the one you're talking about? Many people wouldn't think that would be a close game but you can never tell in baseball. anything can happen.

  7. New officials are assigned elementary games (they have start somewhere). Beginning officials start out working elementary games and during the course of time work their way up to high school games if he/she is good enough. This could take years for this to happen, depending on how fast an offical improves and attends a mandatory camp in the off-season. A lot of veteran officials with years of high school experience call elementary games. Just because someone is calling an elementary game doesn't mean he/she is not a good official. Del's "deaf ref" is just in his second year, which is probably why he was calling an elementary game. JC (The "Deaf Ref" and calls 'em likes he hears 'em).
  8. And the perfect ref told Del, "I call them like I hear them!"
  9. 20 1/2 hours until kickoff!!!! I can't wait. We had a good week at practice and everyone up here at Grundy hopes that Coach Dyer is doing okay and hopes he will be at the game. It will be an interesting homecoming for me tomorrow night. I hope to see all of my old pals. The game should be close as both teams are playing good football right now. It will come down to who executes on offense the best, who tackles the best, and who commits the fewest turnovers. The team that does all of those things will win. I'm sorry to hear that 1buck2 will not be in attendance, I was really looking forward to seeing him again. Send me a post card!!! To the Tiger fans, I am really glad that you are making a lot of noise duirng the games, that's what homefield advantage is all about. As an alumnus, I am proud of the Tigers and Tiger fans as I heard them cheer as I was watching films (I think I recognized some voices, probably my brothers! LOL). As a coach for Grundy, I hope that we can take yall (the fans) out the game, that what any away team would try to do on the road. I can remember the days at Pat Parker Field where there wasn't much excitement. Our crowd last Friday was in to it as well. I hope that we can carry that over tomorrow night. It should be a heck of a game. Look at this way, one way or another, somebody from Macon Co. will advance to the 3rd round. LOL!! Good Luck and see yall tomorrow night. Juan, GCHS football coach (MCHS Class of 1985)
  10. Well, I guess I am going to add in my two cents now..... It will be an intersesting homecoming for me this weekend. This week will be kind of weird, preparing against my alma mata. This will be the first ime I will be on the visiting sidelines at Pat Parker Field. I am looking forward to seeing all of my old friends. Even you 1Buck2!!!! LOL. Your memory must be getting bad though, remember I'm the only one that has these great tuning out powers. I can tune you out but you can't tune me out. Shay Tom and Scooter should have reminded you of that. I am proud of my old school and glad they are doing well but when I step on the field Friday, it will be all business until the final horn. From what I understand, the Clariday's from Lafayette will be cheering for MCHS, again I'm the black sheep of the clan! We played a heck of a game against TC. It was the first time that I was on a team to defeat them. I don't know who was happier, me or my boys. We are really playing well right now. It should be a heck of a game. Good luck and hope to see alot of my old pals on Friday. Juan (MCHS, Class of 85)
  11. 1Buck2 ...... Have you been up to West Point lately? Doesn't look like they'll beat Navy this year! It's been a while since we've talked. What was that re"mark" that was censored? LMAO!!!!! Let's hope that we'll meet each other in the 2nd round. By the way, I still turn off people. Just ask my wife! It's a talent that just won't go away!
  12. 1Buck2, .... I haven't heard Juan-A-Day in years. that's going way, way, back to the glory days of MCHS history. Only a select few ever called me that. I smiled when I seen your post . Hey, now I'm curious to your true identity. E-mail me at jclariday@coacht.com. Good Luck to all the teams in the playoffs!
  13. As an alumnus of of Macon Co. (Class of 1985), I am pround of what the Tigers have done this year. My family has been involved with the Tiger football program on and off since my senior year at MCHS. Both of my younger bothers played for the Tigers and my dad was the treasurer of the QB club in the early 90's. Now, my middle brother, Shay Tom, helps coach the jr. high team. If MCHS should win out and clinch the region title, it would be their first such title since 1978. It's been a long time Tiger fans. This is only the fourth winning season since that 1978 team. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one. Also, I am watching with more interest than the common alumnus since I am an assistant coach at Grundy County. Our paths could cross in the playoffs. Boy, would my family be divided then. They'd probably pull for the Blue & White. I know that there is a lot of football left to play before that could happen and I know Region 4 3-A is the toughest in the state but we are playing pretty good right now. You just never know. Good Luck Tigers and maybe we'll meet in the playoffs!
  14. I coached Jim Bob in baseball at Lincoln County. You tell him that Coach Clariday wants a Jim Bob Cooter Football Camp shirt too, if he makes any more. Jim Bob was one of my favorite players I coached at LCHS, it doesn't surprise me that he's doing good at UT. Coach Fulmer should know that Jim Bob probably holds the state record, maybe national high school record for hit batsment in a game. Jim Bob plunked seven batters against Tullahoma his senior year and still won the game! He's a gamer and will be successful in what ever he does. He'll be an excellent coach. Good luck Jim Bob!
  15. I'm gonna play the devil's advocate. I see both sides to the story. I see the point of the regular season champ going and also why they shouldn't. How about this format? ..... Eliminate the District Tournament. Each team in the district plays each other in a three game series like in the SEC. The tie-breakers are easier to decide there. The top three teams advance to the Region and play in a six-team double elimination like the NCAA regions. The top two advance to the sectional with the sectional winner advancing to the State Tournament. That way there is no disputes about the regular seaason champ advancing or not. Three teams from each district is fair. Maybe the second and third place team get in with a hot streak at the end and carries over into the region. That's just an idea that popped in my head.
  16. Who won between Lincoln Co. and Shelbyville?
  17. I agree with ELA about the 5-year plan. I can't get all of the proposed requirements done in two years. My certificate expires in 2008. Five years from now. I could do that in five years, I need to get out if I can't do it in 5. What the FEDS are saying that my cerificate is only valid for two more. That's hogwash! If a teacher has less than five left on their certificate, they should get an extension to where years are added to make the time 5 years left (if a person has two years left, add three more to their expiration date) and during that time, they try to fullfil the requirements necesary. If they don't make it, they can retire. That's my opinion, how about yours!
  18. I have been teaching and coaching for the last nine years. I have enjoyed every one of them. I coach baseball and until this year, I taught P.E. at an elementary school and coached high school baseball. I missed the opportunity to be with my players throughout the day, only being with them during practices and games. So, I decided to try for a teaching poisition at a high school. My certification is K-12 Health & P.E. I got hired to teach Sp.ED Math on a waiver and coach baseball & football. I have enjoyed this tremendously, being with my players every day through out the school day. I am going to the summer instirute to get certified in Sp. ED and now the way I'm understanding what you are saying, ELA, that I would have get an additional 24 hours of Math!!! I want to get certified in Sp.ED. I love teaching it. I have enough hours in PE, would I have to take the Praxis after I had passed the NTE? I may just have to go back to the elementary schools and teach PE again. I don't know if I can afford this with three children to support at my house. I agree with ya ELA, the FEDS should leave the STATES alone. Let them take an exam to see if they are "Highly Qualified", they would change their tune in a hurry. Teaching and coaching is my life. I don't want to give it up when I'm trying my best to get certified in a subject I'm teaching.
  19. Grundy Co. traveled to Chattanooga to take on the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame at historic Engle Stadium Monday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won 4-0. Toby Woodlee was the winning pitcher, throwing a two-hit complete game shutout. Woodlee (1-0) struck out 14 and walked only two. Woodlee had two hits for GC and Kyle Brewer added one hit. Howard took the loss for ND (0-1). Grundy Co. (1-0) travels to Lincoln Co. on Tuesday.
  20. Mark Purvis, Mt. Juliet, started on the '93 World Series team at 2B. The starting SS on the '93 team was Randy Jennings from DeKalb Co. Ryan Kirby, Macon Co., pitched on the '95 team. McGavock sent two players to CU that I know of. Tim Hall played at CU in the late 80's & early '90s and was an All-American. Kevin Hite was also an All-American and was the Most Oustanding Pitcher in the '95 series. Hite set the series record for most consecutive scoreless innings. Both Hall and Hite were drafted by the Padres. CU baseball has produced many coaches in the high school and college coaching ranks. Mark Purvis (Mt. Juliet), Anthony Ford and Jody Atwood at (Wilson Central), Scott Hunt (Cookeville), Mark Mills (White House), Steve Wilson (White Co.), Tracy Slone (Lincoln Co.), Juan Clariday (Grundy Co.), Jeff Luttrell and Randy Jennings (Watertown), Gary McClure (Austin Peay), Jeff Smith (Vol State), Jackie Holt (SC-Aiken), Rodney Martin (ex Lebanon Head Coach) is now the head coach at Lexington Catholic (KY) H.S. and has won two KY state titles. Hey, Scott H., have I left anybody off?
  21. ENE was right on the money. I was apart of the Bulldog program for eight years. I helped Coach Hunt recruit. We did try to get some local talent and was able to get a few here and there but for the most part the highly rated prospects got drafted or signed D-1. However, he did manage to get top caliber JUCOs and D-1 transfers and during my time at CU we beat Auburn, UT, Kentucky, and Ole Miss. We had a winning record in the all-time series against MTSU while I was there. A lot of years we could've won the OVC. I owe a lot to Coach Hunt and I can't express it enough in what being apart of the CU Baseball Program means to me. It has made me the person and coach that I am today. Nobady can argue with 14 straight conference titles, no matter what level it is in. Five or six World Series appearances with a third place finish in 1993 and the runner-up trophy in 1995.
