  1. OK ya'll haven't been around in a while - my apology, anyway - as a graduate of MBA, I would be able to point out a recrited athlete - thing is, there are NO RECRUITED ATHLETES, period, end of discussion - if there is recruiting - its in the arts and debate department. Please don't bother arguing - cause no one in this recent senior class and upcoming senior class was recruited. I ran track, and i am black if you were wondering, and i was not recruited, i actually went there for the education and did well in freshman english. About Hillsboro - i personally know that they get kids from out of their zone - half the students there are from Antioch for lords sake - they just get "special permission" to get out the zone, most times because the academics at the 'Boro, are better than Antioch. Never calling out names - but i know a few last year that were areas other than the Green Hills/Vine Hill/Belmont area - just some knowledge Enough of all this though - best of luck to Hillsboro - hope you actually bring home state this year - and best of luck to Red - they need a lot of it the entire season with that tough schedule - im off to New Orleans for college soon BYE!
  2. um...... MBA has exactly 472 high school kids, your looking at the full 7-12 school - BA is smaller than us I think, Ryan has the most - just for your info
  3. To BigRed3 Hey Man - i think you know who I am - i wish the best of luck to Coach Rutledge in his recovery at Vanderbilt, and the best of luck to you guys next year. I think you all and the Coach have a lot of potential to do very well next year, and I hope you can bring a 2nd championship home with Coach Rutledge on the sidelines.. Best of Luck to you next year man.
  4. Thank You to every one who has written in this post - I, like everyone else at school, am sending my thoughts and prayers to his family, and I also hope that he has a safe and speedy recovery. It was very tough news for many students and players and coaches, espically for the players that are involved in spring football. Coach Rutledge is a class act in all respect and one who matches our school ideals of "Gentleman, Scholar, Athlete." I had the pleasure of interviewing the Coach during the fall this year, and I will miss his presence on campus along with many of the coaches, faculty, and staff as I leave off for college. Good Luck to the BIG RED next season, and win another championship!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. go to cfpitiming.com - click on TSSAA icon - and then click live results on the left to keep up with the meet Early winners off top for midstate Bumbalough - BA - 3200 - 1st II Pearl Cohn - 1st - 4*1 AAA Yarbourgh - HL - 110H - 1st AAA Barbour - MLK - 110H - 1st - A/AA
  6. Finals 1 Bumbalough Brentwood Academy 9:33.32 2 Townsend Baylor 9:39.50 3 Hultquist Knoxville Webb 9:47.78 4 Smith Mc Callie 9:50.90 5 Mulherin Montgomery Bell 10:01.20 6 Stewart Montgomery Bell 10:13.26 7 Glazer Christian Brothers 10:13.44 -- Brown, Chris St. Benedict DQ
  7. Cannon Kinnard got 14, and he ended up 6th because everyone did well at the meet in pole vault - Jeff Synder got 14'6 and he was 2nd behind Ralls BA has a 5 point lead on us after field - but anything can happen! D2 middle region is pretty tight competition between BGA, BA, and us(MBA) should be fun - and quicker than Tues.
  8. you must be Sutherland then - sorry if I'm wrong
  9. BA must have got the message - cause they came to our school, along with BGA, and beat us by the worse margin they have beat us since we had a track. Granted we did not throw any shot putters, and the pole vaulters stopped at 12', not to mention resting our top sprinters - - BA didn't use Bumbi, McTorry, or T Hart much. BGA gave great effort and showed that they will be in contention in the region - still should be very interesting - other wise I set two personal bests in the HJ and 100. The D2 middle region has proved a very formidable and deep region, which is very good for a region that includes only 8 schools I think. We'll be back for region and state, I promise.
  10. To all BA fans: I am a senior on the varsity track team at MBA. I know that we have a meet with BA and BGA tomorrow (Tues. 15th). I hope we both get a lot of people from both schools to qualify for state so we can get high places at state. Yes, our distance team is carrying most of the team - but we are getting better as the year goes on. BA has shown they are game this year, and that they want to beat us, but we also want to beat them just as bad. Let's just let it play out on the track (and field), and not let a quote in the newspaper get in the way of the two good teams

    high jump

He ended up clearing 6'10 - he went on to the state record height, because it was chilly, and he wanted to do it before the wind started kicking in. Also, it was a TSSAA event where he could set a record. He started at 6'4, cleared it on the third attempt, and won the competition instantly. As for the meet, it went well for most teams considering the weather. Notre Dame seems to have good sprinters, along with ECS. The facility is top notch, but it's literally in the middle of no where and abandoned houses - the nearest food is Kroger - about a mile and a half down the street. Other than that, there seems to be enough seating, but a little smaller than GPS.

    high jump

Adarius Bowman was very close to clearing a state record 7'3 today at the Briarcrest Invitational. He appeared to touch to bar with a cleat on his spikes on the way down after he had already cleared the bar! He is definitly a threat to break the state record by the state record.
  13. Some girl from USN (Univ. School of Nashville) won state last year in 400, and she was a freshman - ran somewhere around 56,57 - pretty sure
  14. I just want to know what ya'll think about the head to head of Division 2 v.s Single A basketball this year. I know that McCallie beat Temple 96-44 this year, and BA seems like a stronger champion than Temple, judging from their play at the end of the year. Holla Back!
  15. Pointing out that the counter-arguments of Vandy sweeping Alabama, and MBA millionaire dads crying about their babies are two of the funniest arguments i've ever heard, as a Vandy fan and an MBA students. Go Dores, Big Red - and congrats to the Eagles are really playing strong basketball at the end of the season. Well played. (I'm sure WesVols is real happy right now)
  16. LAUSSANE... WON???!!!.... HOW???!!! This can not possibly be true,, ND must have had no motivation in the second half or something for the ship to fall apart. The young Grizzles are in a state champioship, who would have thought at the beginning of the season. Good luck to them and the Eagles on Saturday!
  17. Usually I would not react to mattm with a response, but since he can not seem to understand a grammatically correct paragraph, I shall restate my thoughts, and clarify for you and others. I think that both teams are VERY GOOD, and wish them the best of luck as they play to hopeful champioships. I know more about BA than I do Columbia since I've seen them twice, and I've only Columbia late in the season last year. As I know personally, judging from the 40 point beating you gave us at your place last year, although we only lost by two last year at our place, I know that your teams, and your tradition are very good. I simply state the following: when WesVols reports that BA was up at halftime by double digits, and you state that your players played for at least 2 quarters, you basically defeat your point. The fact of the matter is, if it's a scrimmage, espically a postseason scrimmage, when your team is suppose to be at the height of your game, along with the other team, you were defeated. I'm sorry if you feel the other way, but 17 points is 17 points. I apologize if I have offended Columbia's tradition in any way. By the way, if you want to call me an idiot, that's fine. Why don't you tell that to the college that accepted me with an academic scholarship in February.
  18. People of Columbia... I have reason to believe that you all will at the least make the semi-finals, and for BA people, I have reason to believe that you all can possibly win. But from experience, I know that Columbia has been open to play D2 teams, and there have been great games played between the Lions and D2. Yes, the key word is scrimmage, but a 17 point loss must make you think again about your team, espically if you all want to win on the AAA level. I'm sure that WesVols is just trying to report scores on his team just like he does for football and all the other sports at BA, and he does a commendable job for his reports. Don't get on him for reporting the truth. Another truth is that both teams will do well and good luck to both in the state.
  19. Dong Bontrager couldn't possibly go since he's at Ryan, and Husband probably wouldn't return to MBA, since he coached the freshman team at MBA, for the class that is presently the senior class. I assume that Hubie Brown has a relation to the coach of the Grizz. Then again you never know because I the people behind the decisions. I just know that because they need to find someone who is not all caught up in making all the basketball players play basketball only.
  20. He just got fired today - and knowing the administration, they will be a little while before they make a decision
  21. I presently attend MBA, and when I came to school, I was very shocked that he would be fired. The decisions made by the administration are always final, but I think they should have evaluated the situation more. When Bowers, the previous coach left, he had athletes like Ingle, Dominique, and Moses to work with. This is not to say that the athletes on the basketball team were not good, because there were good if not great athletes on the team. I also feel for someone to say that our basketball players are "soft" and unskilled is an insult to the players and the coaching of Coach Meyer. He had his players work and play at the highest level of competition. He did this through practice. I personally went through his fall practice, and it was tough, but it everyday everyone was a better player. The hard work and determination was with players of whom many were in their first year of varsity basketball. He created a system and game plan that enabled his team to win ball games. Unfortunately, many games were lost by slim margins. A last second shop versus Elizabethon separates them from one of the best teams in AA. They only lost to Germantown by 6(I think), and Lasanne by about 3 or 4. Not to underestimate that BA and Father Ryan are teams that are very good, and would go to state in AA if not AAA, since Father Ryan would be in Hillsboro's region. The possible reasons of other kids quitting before the season because of the coach is untrue. Many decided to not play because players did not want to play due to focusing on one sport. It was only two also, many kids are capable of playing basketball, but there are various reasons why some kids playing freshman year are not playing this year. Only one kid who played freshman ball is still playing. And also, Coach Meyer is good teacher of Basketball and in the classroom as an English teacher, so I know his passion for both should feed into his students and his player. I honestly feel that he may have worked better at a pro-basketball type school like Goodpasture, but at MBA, the expectation of the winning footabll program feeds into every other sport, and a 5-21 record soesn't bode well for the expectation of winning at any school, espically MBA. Hopefully, he does well at his next job, and I wish him the best of luck. A better thought process should have been made though, and the newspaper article certainly overlooks some facts pointed out by people in the firing process. Just a thought from a fan

    WesVols

Great Job Wes Vols on succeeding in becoming a National Merit Finalist. This is a very distinguished honor for you and for anyone else who has been honored enough to be named one. I never did well on standardized tests myself, so I understnad how hard the SAT/PSAT is, and achieving a high enough score is very well done. Your intellect matches your commentary on high school sports on this site. Out of curiousity, what colleges are you looking at? At any rate - good luck in the future, and I shall root for the Eagles in every sport except Track (that's my sport)
  24. Wes Vols Couldn't come to the game... who were the leading scorers if you can remember. Jeffrey have a good game?
  25. They had to take a coin toss between BGA, USN, and MBA for the 3,4,and 5 seeds because they all finished the region 2-6
