  1. I think Boyd offers a better education. I think most athletes want a good education, don't you Pujo? I've never seen advertisements for Boyd's athletic program. In fact, I don't see advertisements for Boyd. I think the biggest way Boyd gets students is from recomendations by parents. If that's recruiting, then Boyd's guilty. But it's the parents that make the decision where their students go. I would hope that parents wouldn't have their kids go to a school just because they were told their kid would start on the football team there. The only way Boyd would "recruit" is the same way SP does. Articles in the newspaper about the game from the past friday night. That's the only time I see stuff about Boyd's football team. If you want to talk about advertising, SP has a sign showing the years SP got all their state championships. They didn't put all the nuclear physicists and engineers that graduated from there. So from what I can tell, SP does more recruiting then Boyd.

    Will Healy

I agree that size will be a problem. I wish that size didn't matter as long as the person played as incredible as Will does. Maybe that won't affect him. He deserves the best college out there, but size will be the biggest thing keeping him from getting there. The CPA game wasn't even his best performance. He was nervous in the first half. If he came into the game without the nervousness, Boyd would have won the game. But we'll never know. Even though he didn't play his best, I think he had something like 250 passing yards friday.

    Will Healy

For those who have seen him play, what do you think? He is the most amazing quarterback I've seen play. He hardly ever gets sacked because he scrambles so well and is accurate when scrambling. He had well over 2000 yards passing this year, and has set the broken the passing record and added 1000+ yards to it. I believe he only had 6 or 7 interceptions total including the playoffs. He's an excellent team leader and I think he deserves the best college possible. Even though he is not the size that most colleges like, I think he would do great at any school he goes to. What do yall think?
  4. Even though Ezell did as you said destroy Boyd, I think if Boyd played Ezell again, Boyd would win. Boyd has gotten so much better since that game as most, apparently not all, saw in the state game. CPA beat Ezell by 17 I think in the playoffs, and if you remember, they lost to Ezell earlier this year. Boyd lost in overtime, and if it hadn't been for fumbles inside the redzone, Boyd might have won by 10 or 20. But that is just an if. CPA is a very good team and so is Boyd. It's too bad that either team had to lose that one. Both deserved it because of the heart and determination they both showed. If you're honest with yourself, you have to admit that Boyd is much better then when they played Ezell earlier this year.

    Boyd vs CPA

Extremely good question scout. I was wondering that myself. I dreaded it every time Will took off running to the sideline and pitched it off because I knew what was coming. Boyd had a whole lot more success running it up the middle. But I doubt that would have worked in overtime. The best choice was to pass, but Will had to be so worn out because he did so much for us just to get us in overtime. I can understand why he doesn't do that well on PAT's and field goals because he's done so much just to get us in for the score or in field goal range. If he doesn't go to a big division 1 school, then those schools will be missing an extremely talented quarterback. In fact I heard Jeff Fisher was saying some really good things about him, and his son was playing for the other team.
  6. Boyd has nothing to be ashamed of. That was an awesome game. I don't think any other 1A school would have had the heart and determination to come back from a 17-0 defecit (sp?) and tie and go into overtime. They did well. This is the farthest the school has ever gotten and everyone's proud of them.
  7. I don't care about what people hear. People take different things differently. One good example is the Bible. I believe that what I read and practice is in line with what the Bible, but people believe thousands of different things about it. That "Boyd insider" could have been joking (and probly was) and didn't know that the person would take it the wrong way. I've actually talked to some of Boyd's football players, and every single one I've talked to says that we don't recruit. And I'd have to agree with them. Boyd can't afford to recruit. Just take a look at our field and facilities for football. When I see them, I wouldn't want to immediately join the team. SP's facilities are probly nicer. SP's field I know is nicer. Anyway, I've talked to the players. Yall are saying they're recruited. But they are saying they aren't. In fact, they are mad that people accuse Boyd of that. Accusing a team of that takes some of the pride away of how good the program is. We don't accuse SP or any other team of recruiting when they get good. Every team has their good years. I think one of the biggest reasons private schools have been doing so well the last few years is because parents want their kids to go to a better school, because they don't like the public school system. At least that is how it is in Chattanooga. Don't mean to offend anyone who thinks differently, but the statistics show that more and more people are going to private or homeschooling. The more people that come, naturally athletes are mixed in with that number. Until yall have undeniable evidence that Boyd recruits, please stop making those accusations. That "Boyd insider" is not valid enough. The person who brought it up doesn't even know if it's necessarily true.

    Boyd vs CPA

Congrats to CPA. I was really hoping Boyd would win, but somebody had to lose. I think if it weren't for the slippery hands in the redzone Boyd would have won the game. But I am still very glad that Boyd made it this far because this is the farthest any Boyd team has ever gotten.

    coaching news

Why do you want this kind of information? For many coaches probly, this is how they are making their living unless they are also teaching, and you want to discuss about making them lose their job?
  10. HAHA!! Maybe when we're a little more consistent with PAT's and field goals. I'll go with Coach Akins or Coach Reynolds.
  11. What are the teams in that region? How far did the others get in the playoffs?
  12. Hey bucbeefcake, I think you misread or something. I doubt unclebuc would ever say Healy wasn't good. For one thing, why would a Boyd fan be dissing Boyd's quarterback. That doesn't make sense for some reason. I've been looking, and I can't even see where you came up with that conclusion. Apparently unclebuc and others were mad at that willateup guy for something he said that was removed from the thread. Oh, also. Don't sign up just try to degrade a person, that's stupid. Talk about football. That's what the site is for, not to put down your own fellow fans. [Edited by jsh969 on 12-4-02 10:13P]
  13. Coach Akins chokes???? Come on. The only close game that I can think of that Boyd has had this year was Lipscomb. That game was won in the last minute of the game. Now let's see.... who won the game? I think it was Boyd 31-27. Yep, that's choking for ya. Oops, I forgot about the other close game. The East Ridge game. That game didn't get decided until the final 4 minutes I think. Final score, 15-12 Boyd. [Edited by jsh969 on 12-3-02 6:14P]
  14. Maybe I shouldn't have said it like that. I was doing several different things at that time and didn't chose the words like I probly should have. One thing that I thought and meant to put on there was that they don't need to just look at stats to make the decision. It needs to be a look at what teams the person has played and how the person did against them. If it's all weak teams, there's no reason why a quarterback shouldn't put up unbelievable numbers. I just know that Collinwood looked good going into the playoffs and then got blown out second round. Healy played against extremely good teams and had only one loss and set the city passing record very early in the season. I'm sure Ward is very deserving of the award, but I just think there's a better way to select the winner. Congrats to Ward. I'm sure he is a good football player.
  15. Actually they are not whining. I'll go in reverse order on what you said. Will is the best kicker of how ever many you saw kicking. He's better then the way he was kicking friday night. For some reason he couldn't kick them through. Anyway, I saw Healy kick the extra point and then turned my head cuz I thought it was over. Usually when it's an accident that a person hits the kicker, you see it coming right away. I did not see those people flying at Will when he was kicking it like you normally would when a roughing the kicker penalty is called. People who have watched it again from the film from the game agree that it was a cheap shot. But the game is over. Will is just fine. This is not a Boyd-Cloudland thread, so stop bringing stuff from last week up. [Edited by jsh969 on 12-3-02 5:34P]
  16. I know a guy from Cloudland got hit in a very sensitive area, but that happens. If it was intentional, he would have probly been sitting out a few plays because of the pain, but he went right back to the huddle. I know of a couple of players who have been hit there before. It's not uncommon. That's just the way the blows are delt sometimes. I honestly saw nothing that Boyd did that makes yall so angry and accuse us of unsportsmanlike conduct. I only saw after the hit on Will because I turned after he kicked, but EVERY person I know who saw it said that late hit was inexcusable and that it was intentional. I also heard that some of the Cloudland fans seemed pretty happy when Will was limping to the sideline and it was not because he wasn't hurt too badly. I've said this to everybody who accuses Boyd of this. Every team has their problems with sportsmanship. The evidence is very clear about Cloudland from last friday night. So let's work on our team to try to make them good sports before we complain to other teams about their players.
  17. mkillur You said Lipscomb would win by three touchdowns yet you predicted 21-7. Was that intentional? Or did you mean 28-7? Just wondering.
  18. I don't really care about Willis, but Healy deserved it more then Ward did. Boyd shut Ward down in the preseason. Healy has proven himself by putting up big numbers against big schools unlike Ward who played smaller schools and was put out in I think it was the second round.
  19. Chakra I don't guess you've noticed it, but Boyd has gotten a whole lot better since the Ezell game. Beating Lipscomb should have been one sign, and then you said that you were surprised that Boyd even beat Cloudland, and by 31 points. It's obvious that Boyd is a whole lot better team since the Ezell game. I'm not saying we're better then CPA, but it will be a close game and hopefully Boyd will win. [Edited by jsh969 on 12-2-02 3:00P]
  20. Will Healy deserved the Mr Football 1a back award. It should be decided on strength of schedule then stats instead of just stats. Boyd killed Collinwood in the preseason. Another factor probably is that Collinwood is a public school.
  21. I'm a bama fan, but I think Witten won't have too much of a chance at a pro if he doesn't leave this year. The way Fulmer is letting TN get cocky and full of themselves, the team will just get worse and worse. TN has all the talent in the world on it, but arrogance is getting in the way. I don't really know how well Witten would do in the draft this year either, but if he's gonna try to go pro, he better go now.
  22. For those wondering who said Healy is unimpressive, it was RBC. "bbsesq, Mark this down. Healy will be lucky, I MEAN LUCKY, to play football in college at all. Byrd will play, barring injury, at the school of HIS choice. Healy showed me nothing. He had good recievers that adjusted very well. Give the credit to the line and recievers. Healy can't hold a candle to Byrd. Edit: Byrd will not play QB, but he will play. He is a trus 1A college athlete. Healy might be Div II." There's somethin' wrong in his head if he wasn't impressed with Healy. I can't remember if Healy was ever sacked because he is incredible at scrambling and passing while he is scrambling at that. One thing that shows how good he is is that with about 3:00 left in the first half, he threw some awesome passes and got a touchdown in less then two minutes. He did the exact same thing in the Lipscomb game in the final 2:00 minutes of the game. When he passes the ball, he always places it right where it needs to go. I'm sorry RBC, but if you weren't impressed with Healy, then you don't know what a good quarterback is.
  23. What was the number of the player who gave the cheap shot? If it was 84, there were other plays where he should have been called for personal fouls and ejected. I saw one right before halftime where he was punching one of Boyd's players after he helped tackle him. I hope I don't stir any anger up saying that but that's what I saw.
  24. I don't think everyone has been talking bad about Cloudland. I sure haven't. Although there are some very big things they should work on. One is passing. I believe at the end of the game yall only had 31 yards passing. The running game can't stay open the whole game when there are no pass attempts. The other was that they relied on byrd too much to make the plays on offense. An offense needs several play makers. The other thing is the amount of time starters are on the field. From what I heard, the starters only stayed on the field 2 quarters for most if not all the games before last night. When a team is not used to playing 4 quarters that will wear them out.
