  1. Harriman definitely plays better when they have a chip on their shoulder. I think a lot of people thought they could handle Grace since they were down a bit, but like 'em or not, Grace is a good team and they're not quite ready to give up their district title. Grace, however, will be big Harriman fans in week 10 as Grace win over Greenback and a Harriman win over Rockwood gives the Rams the district title.
  2. I heard 26 yards. I think Sunbright recovered an onside kick with about 20 seconds left and then got in position to win it.
  3. Ole Tiger won't sleep for a week.
  4. Grace vacated all their wins. So they didn't beat Sunbright according to Ole Tiger.
  5. Don't get him started on Grace. But he's actually talking about King's Academy.
  6. Jermaine was actually the pass thrower at Harriman. They moved him to WR at UT because they had somebody named Manning playing QB at that time.
  7. I've got to take up for Coach Brackett here. I haven't seen him run it up on teams. Against Oakdale this year, OS was up 34-0 at halftime and returned an interception for a TD on the third play of the second half to make it 41-0. OS didn't score again after that. Against Hancock, OS led 34-0 at the half and scored twice in the second half. The first score came in the third quarter with the starters and the final score came midway through the final period with the reserves.
  8. Any truth to some Jellico players getting arrested?
  9. Del, Is there a local paper that covers Grundy?
  10. I believe General Custer must have been kicked off Coach T's reservation. It would have been fun to see what happened if the Tigers ever lost because Ole Tiger had folks riled up from Hartsville to Hampton to Chattanooga to Oneida.
  11. I've put some pictures up from the game at roanecounty.com. Shameless plug for the newspaper.
  12. Varsity units tied 2-2 with Monterey adding a JV score. I had Harriman with 265 yards of offense on 31 plays. I had Inman with 142 yards rushing on only 8 carries and one of those was a loss of 10 yards in the backfield on a fumbled pitch. Harriman didn't play with much emotion though and I know Coach Tapp was disappointed.
  13. Yep. Rockwood had a rough day. Bus broke down, got their just before the game started and then got drilled. Don't think the Tigers were ever mentally in it.
  14. I know several teams are dropping them in the district in basketball. I'm not sure about football.
  15. I heard the other incident occurred in 2008. So maybe it was a kid wearing No. 3 in 2008 and he graduated and the kid wearing No. 3 in 2009 is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  16. I had heard a similar story, but you know how rumors can grow the more they are told.
  17. I've heard that Grace Christian has self reported another ineligible player. Has anyone else heard this?
  18. I've heard a two-year ban in football and basketball, a one-year ban in all other sports, and a $22,600 fine. I actually thought the bans might have been longer.
  19. TSSAA sends their best crews to the sectionals. Plus a ton of fouls were called on both teams.
  20. Harriman is simply peaking at the right time. Hampton isn't the only one that beat them bad in the regular season. Grace beat them by 25 in the regular season and Harriman turned around and beat them soundly twice in the postseason. Tellico Plains swept Harriman in the regular season then the Blue Devils beat them by 15 in the district title game. Cloudland is also a better match-up for Harriman than was Hampton. Cloudland likes to penetrate and shoot the three, but Harriman was able to take away the penetration without giving help and that meant shooters like Morgan couldn't spot up and shoot easily. They made him put in on the floor and shoot off the move, which is something Hampton was unable to do.
  21. I think the district will be very tough next. Oneida and Oakdale return all five starters, Oliver Springs loses just one senior so it's natural to put them at the top. But don't forget about Wartburg. they've been in the Region Championship game each of the past three years so I'd say Coach Davis will have them right where they need to be come tournament time. Plus Wartburg has done a food job of developing depth the past few seasons. Coalfield loses a lot, but building around Jordan and Hamby ain't a bad place to start.
  22. Coalfield wins 63-56. Hampton was down two with 23 seconds left and was taking the ball out on the baseline when a girl called timeout when they were out. From there Jordan made 5 of 6 free throws to seal the deal. Wartburg lost 62-45. Heard they were down 33-13 at the half.
  23. The thing I like most about Coalfield is they have a star in Jordan, but they have a lot of balance. All five starters are capable of double figures on any night and it's not uncommon for them to have four or five girls score between 10-15 points on the same night. Jones had a tremendous region tournament, leading scorer in all three games and she just kept hitting big threes. The one she hit late in the third quarter against OS was perhaps the biggest shot she made in the tournament. OS was up five at the time and seemed to have the momentum until Jones' triple gave the Lady Jackets a boost. The thing I like about Wartburg is how hard they play. You just can't seem to knock them out. Several times last night it seemed Coalfield was going to pull away, but everytime they kept coming back and even got to within one with 6.1 seconds left. Like Coalfield, Wartburg has a lot of balance. I don't think they have a three-point shooter as good as Jones or an overall talent like Jordan, but I can't think of any player that I'd rather have taking a shot in a clutch situation as Fountain. I also think Bunch at the point is an underated player. She seems to be the glue to the team. I think both games Saturday are toss-ups and probably won't be decided until the final couple of minutes.
  24. From what I've heard he was kicked off the team and that has led to a lot of trouble.
  25. I think both teams have a winnable game Saturday. The bad news for Wartburg is they go on the road, but they probably got the better draw with North Greene winning. Wartburg, however, has a lot of experience playing in the sectional contest. Coalfield gets the advantage of playing at home, but Hampton is considered the best team in their region even though they lost Wednesday. Hampton also made it to the state tournament last year so that is something that should favor the Lady Bulldogs. Good luck to both Wartburg and Coalfield.
