  1. I saw no Boyd Buchanan ads on my tape of the local broadcast.
  2. Here is the data... you do the math 1969 South Pittsburg 1970 Tennessee Preparatory School 1971 Sweetwater 1972 Sweetwater 1973 Dyer County 1974 Brentwood Academy 1975 Walland 1976 Rockwood 1977 Alcoa 1978 Alcoa 1979 Alcoa 1980 Lake County 1981 Webb School of Knoxville 1982 Memphis Catholic 1983 Evangelical Christian School 1984 Gordonsville 1985 Lake County 1986 Spring Hill 1987 Greenback 1988 Donelson Christian Academy 1989 Bruceton Central 1990 Trousdale County 1991 Franklin Road Academy 1992 Oneida 1993 Trousdale County 1994 South Pittsburg 1995 Battle Ground Academy 1996 Donelson Christian Academy 1997 Trousdale County 1998 Trousdale County 1999 South Pittsburg 2000 Christ Presbyterian Academy 2001 Ezell Harding 2002 Christ Presbyterian Academy 2003 Boyd Buchanan
  3. Thank you! I hope I don't get this thread moved (I know my comments won't but too many replies will) I was berated on another thread when I mentioned that my personal experience with the difference between public and private schools was, in general, work ethic. I was speaking in general terms and about my experience and received a reply that private schools haven't cornered the market on work ethic. (I know that.) It is nice to see someone on the public school side of the debate voice the same opinion. Boyd Buchanan should do okay next year. They lose the D-line (and a couple of O-Line) a line backer and a safety. Some of the positions should be covered, but I don't think the defense will be as dominant. The good news is that the coaches could have had more shut out games, but they allowed the younger guys to get some playing time and they gave up points this year, but gained valuable experience. I suspect that the offense will put up as many points next year and that the defense will give up about 14 points more per game. If you apply that logic to this year… BBS has the same wins up to the SP play-off game and SP would have won by 1 point.
  4. Ha ha ha ha... ho ho ho... Sorry... I lost it there for a minute... There is always at least one...
  5. Both of you have achieved a great thing just by being in this game. However, someone must lose. Whoever that is… Keep your head up. A silver ball is better than no ball. Every other 1A team would love to be in your place. So, no matter what trash talk you hear… remember that.
  6. ??????? 2003 is not available yet so all you have to go on is how much CASH they started the year with. (Their tax year ends in June. So, it is in the books just not on the web site yet) And I did say, "$752,730 in Savings and temporary cash investments with $307,729 cash--non-interest bearing." I think that is just over 1 million in cash. They show $215,226 in value of autos, furniture & fixtures, land and buildings. I see nothing flawed in my research. The biggest asset is cash. So they are doing okay unless you are implying that the have lost a million dollars since the end of June 2002.
  7. That is the problem on this board… to many people hearing from others and not enough fact. Fact is on the 2002 990 filed by TSSAA They started the year with assets of $1,256,293 and ended the year at $1,527,410 That is a $271,117 gain… up 21.5%… Not too bad for a no-profit organization Also they reported $752,730 in Savings and temporary cash investments with $307,729 cash--non-interest bearing. This paperwork does not indicate a group in crisis. Now… if someone is suing you and you know that you are about to have to pay a big settlement… that could be a horse of a different color.
  8. Why don't you go back more than 2 years? It is okay to have them together as long as the privates are the region doormats. However, let the privates have some success and now we have a problem. I am hearing.. "We can't win all of the time now coaching the way we have for years… Let's find a way to get rid of the teams that are winning instead of reinventing ourselves." In the '90s Privates won 3 1A titles it was 3 different privates. In the '90s the public schools dominated Trousdale County 4 titles South Pittsburg 2 titles Oneida 1 title Was anyone complaining that Trousdale had some unfair advantage? Yes… the first 4 games in the '00s will go to private schools. However it will be 3 different private schools. Football is a funny game. In 34 years of records on the TSSAA web page a private school has won only 12 times. Yes, the last few years look like a trend, but statistically, it will take more time to see if the trend is an anomaly or a real problem. If by 2010 no public school as won a state championship… then it may be time for a multiplier.
  9. Nice post. I appreciate that you would take the time to give your assessment of Boyd's sportsmanship. I am not defending bad sportsmanship, but I can't help but wonder if those who claim that they received some bad sportsmanship from Boyd may have dished some out.
  10. You're right! They can't compete with those schools. They don't have the money to give any tuition breaks to athletes. Private schools are not perfect. However, most of the small ones are church based. People send their kids there because they can still pray at school or before a football game. Also you have no "board of education employees" (sometimes called teachers) at private schools. I am not saying all the teachers are perfect, but there is no such thing as tenure. If you can't cut it you are out... not just moved from school to school until people quit complaining. The publics can't do that because of the bureaucracy. It was hard to leave the public system, but we did. We left for a number of reasons. However, we, like most of the folks we know, do not feel like we are better or too good for the public system. We feel like the fact that the teachers are all dedicate Christians who are motivated to teach and the class room size is smaller are fair reasons to switch. My wife and I both attended public schools and we turned out alright. Our choice is to give our kids the opportunity to attend a school that we feel is best for them. You are saying that because of our choice we should not be able to play sports against the public schools. I agree that, based on recent success, there seems to be some advantage. From being in both a public and private high school setting, I think it is attitude and work ethic. My experience has been that a high percentage of the private school team participates in off-season conditioning. I am not saying that there are no public school students with a good work ethic. I am speaking in general terms about the percentage of the players that are giving 100%. I know that the "big stars" did just about what they wanted to do when the wanted to do it in the public setting. I also know that the public school had several "groups" within the team. I have seen with my own eyes situations where guys did not block for someone because they were mad at him for some reason. In the private setting the team is more like a family. Everyone is pulling for the common good. The coaches stress team work and being a team. The young guys are to be taught by the older guys. The older guys do not just consider them living, breathing, blocking dummies. Just one mans experience here. I have no problem with a multiplier. Do I think it is fair? No. But if it makes you feel like it is fair then that is what I feel should be done. I believe that I should wrong myself before I allow you to perceive that you have been wronged by me.
  11. Recruiting is almost always the battle cry.
  12. Okay, so let's say TSSAA adopts the 2.0 factor. If Goodpasture and Boyd Buchanan both go to 3A and start meeting in the state championship game. Will all the 3A schools cry foul and want a factor of 3? When does it stop? If you take the teams in the projected region 3 3A. Boyd beat 3 of them this year as a 1A team. Also, based on how the others faired against teams that Boyd beat, it is likely that Boyd would have won the projected 3A region the year. So, do we keep moving the low down private schools up until they can't possibly win? And then say, now… that's fair.
  13. I agree... I made this post just to get this back to the top.
  14. Kicker of the year Alberto Diaz, Crockett County
  15. D2 AAA Lineman Corey Mills, Christian Brothers Back Michael Fisher, Montgomery Bell Academy
  16. Now that it is over... the link is up. Hopefully, they will recap.
  17. I know you were trying to stay within 10, but some other starters who have played well that return are: Robert Coleman DB Weston Perry P, PK Henry Woodard RB/DB The offense should be as good next year as this year. The defense may give up 14 points more per game. However, +14 would have been enough to win every game except the SP play-off game this year. So, I like the outlook for next year.
  18. I don't know if anyone has corrected this yet... East Ridge is 4A and Howard is 3A. Also; Howard, East Ridge, Goodpasture and Walker Valley all made it to the play-offs in their respective divisions.

Of course… They may be 4 TD's better… Boyd Buchanan is the only team to beat Lipscomb is the last two years. I know the comparison is flawed. It is just the only one I saw looking at it tonight.

    Boyd vs. CAK

Yes, if it were confirmed that he said this. I would expect to see some action taken. I expect that coach Akins would investigate this if the CAK coaches report it to him. Coach Akins does not read this board and I don't think he would even investigate it based on someone posting it on coacht. However, there are now two players indicating that they heard this. BUBBA61 posting it in a much classier way. This is not representative of Boyd Buchanan. If it turns out that it is true, it would surprise me if coach Akins did not set him out for some, if not all, of the championship game.

Peardon is a Junior. Yeah, I said that the Goodpasture loss for CPA was early. It is just the best common opponent's opponent that I could find. The bottom line is that this should be a great game.

    Boyd vs. CAK

If Dan said that he, indeed, showed no class and is representing the school very poorly. However, your decision to quote him is not representing CAK very well. You could have simply stopped with " he was cussing at some of our players." Do you think the "*" cleans it up enough to post?

unbiasedspectator, Looks like you are true to your screen name. Are your number 1 and 2 tailbacks out for sure or are they just injured? Matt Peardon seems to still be having problems with his injury from the first South Pittsburg game. I know that sounds stupid to say after he just gained 320 yards in a game. However, in the second and third quarters he was stretching it and trying to stay loose. So, it does not look like he was 100%. Here is some more comparison to think about. CPA .vs DCA CPA won by 21 in the regular season and lost by 8 in the play-offs. CPA lost to Goodpasture 26 - 0 BBS lost to Goodpasture 26 - 12 (This would imply that the BBS offense is a little better than CPA's and the defense is about the same.) The CPA Goodpasture game was the first game for both teams. BBS played Goodpasture in the middle of the season. (For what that is worth.) Based on this it looks like it will be a great game! Congratulations to the two best teams in 1A this year!

This post is on another thread: "It's a shame Fayette don't kick extras because that cost them the game. DCA definitely has depth. They didn't have their best player and their main man in this game was knocked out of it in the 4th quarter but they still drove the length of the field and scored. The problem is this: Whom are they going to go to next week? Dace's 1st and 2nd string RB is out. They will have to rely on defense and scrap for all they get on offense." (Note this is a quote… so I did not correct the spelling) If this is true, they may have a tough time scoring on the BBS defense. However, their defense had four shutouts in the regular season. It looks like it could come down to special teams and turnovers. BBS has played very good on special teams all year. Does anybody know about DCA's special team play?
