  1. Stan, Using the 990 web site that you brought to the thread... Baylor: President $190,809 Head Master $108,835 McCallie: VP $139,167 CBO $105,622 Head of Upper $89,497 It would seem to me that Mr. Akins compensation for being President of Boyd Buchanan is about in line. A little more than the Head of Upper at McCallie and a lot less that the Head Master at Baylor. I see these as comparable positions. You will notice that it is substantially less than the top at either Baylor or McCallie, but then that would be expected. So, he is not receiving an exorbitant amount to be President of the school. Your argument, of how much the football coach is paid, would fall by the way side if he were to step aside as coach and allow a teacher or other administrator to assume this role. Because, other than the high school principal, it is likely that even with the 7% given to head coaches their pay would still be less than or equal to that of any public school teacher who is also a head coach. You are correct, according to the filed 909 from this web site, when you quote Mr. Akins pay, but you could not be more wrong in indicating that he receives this pay for coaching football. This is typical of those who twist facts to suit their agenda.

Yes, and fortunately the cheap shot on the on-side kick with 30 something seconds left in a game did not seriously injure the BBS player.
  3. I guess that goes to show... you can't trust spell check

Hey demonchild... Your signature line is showing... demonchild i just wanna say good luck grundy, it is gonna be a good game up in macon county, let the best team win. i am excited to watch you boys play my old school. Forum: Football · Post Preview: #463526 I don't think SP needs your trash talk, as if you were a former Buc, to fire them up for the game..
  5. An objective look: Going into the first match up this season everyone was expecting to see a big scoring shootout. However, both teams defensive units were in charge of the game. Cook over threw several wide open receivers during the game. He was on the run most of the time he was trying to throw. So, I guess you have to give some credit to the BBS defense. However, if Cook connects on just a small percentage of the missed opportunities the complexion of the entire game could have been different. Lets talk scoring: After a scoreless first quarter, BBS gets on the board first after recovering a fumbled punt around the SP 20. Just before the half SP intercepts an option pitch and is set up on the BBS 30. SP promptly throws a 30yd TD strike. SP then is wide on the PAT. Score 7 - 6 at the half and all the points coming when the opposing teams' turnover has set the offense up with a short field. In the second half SP fumbles another punt inside the 10. BBS takes advantage and the score goes to 14 -6. BBS gets a field goal after a short drive. BBS scored its last TD on a 36 yard run. I think this was after SP went for it on forth down at mid field. Other factors: SP will need to control their emotions. SP was penalized 3 times for hitting Drew Akins late. 1 Late hit out of bounds, 1 roughing the passer and 1 late hit on a punt return. Matt Peardon went out in the first half with a pulled muscle. Weston Perry had punts that made SP start inside their own 10 at least twice. (It says something about both teams defense when the coach-t player of the game was the BBS punter) The bottom line: If both teams had played with no turnovers, the game could have had to be decided in overtime. If both teams come to play, this could be the best football game in Tennessee. If you live within a couple of hours of Chattanooga and you love high school football, you will likely not see a game any better than this game. It would be worth the drive. Congratulations to both teams for making it to the third round!
  6. Two things, Nathan_Smithers#1, if you are part of the Boyd Buchanan team, you should not be posting this kind of statement. STP23, Boyd Buchanan played a game earlier this year at Finley and sold enough advertising to pay the rent. If they wanted to, they could do that again. However, I think home field advantage is what they will be looking for if they advance to the 3rd round. "Although I don't think it would have mattered this year where they played, SP was clearly the superior team." This statement confuses me. Was the regular season score not 24 - 6 in favor of Boyd Buchanan. This will be my only post in the thread because it is a South Pittsburg @ Gordonsville thread and not a BBS thread.
  7. I apologize… I misunderstood the statement: "Teams that perform better against opponents with high win percentages rank higher." When you take the time to read it in detail, it is clear what the ranking is.
  8. I don't think it hurt Byrd's chances for Mr. Football. Are the ballots not turned in by the first playoff game? However, it would seem to be a bitter-sweet win if he does get 1A Mr Football.
  9. "Stop before you begin sounding like Cloudland" This is not being posted by Boyd Buchanan players or fans. If you look close the respondents are Clay County players (or they seem to be) They seem to be speaking from experience. Also, if you did not notice, the thread was started by a brand new poster. Very first post. This is most likely someone who wants to start something controversial.
  10. Hmmm... The first team scoring on a mostly JV defense gains you respect?
  11. pujo, I looked through several threads and I did not see any predictions of a score by you. You did say that it would take a heck of a team to come to Roan Mt. To beat you. Which is a fair statement to make. Your posts are fairly benign. However, you were included in posts like, "cak you need to add ewalk to the end of your name because that is what it will be a cakewalk for cloudland. you can't play within 80 points of cloudland if they want to beat you that bad the only way you have a chance to win is if all the coaches get sick and pujo has to do all the coaching then you might stand a chance" I also found this post from you: 11/02/2003 pujo post I don,t think region 2 is weak, probably the forth toughest region from top to bottom, our region is probably the weakest. I am not expecting to win by 50 like some are saying. So, a quick review shows classy posts from you. However, there were several classless predictions by Cloudland fans.
  12. Boyd has a game with a good Friendship Christian team before they will think about South Pittsburgh or Murfreesboro. There is a sign hanging at Boyd Buchanan that says, "One win at a time." This is very much the philosophy of the coaches and players at Boyd Buchanan. As a fan you look at the common foe; Whitwell. Boyd beat Whitwell 55 to 27 and Friendship beat them 22 to 14. Whitwell scored 21 points on Boyd's JV defense in the second half. Boyd did capitalize on some early mistakes by Whitwell and the game was basically over by the end of the first half. However, CAK has given us clear evidence of what can happen when the, logically, better team, going into the game, overlooks their current opponent. Rest assured that Boyd will be preparing for this Friday's game an not looking past Friday until the end of the game on Friday. Then, if they take care of business, they will look to the next Friday and if South Pit takes care of business the table will be set for one of the best games in Chattanooga in a long time.
  13. I am sure that the kids are not doing the posting and I do feel sorry for the kids. However, with the postings that you and others put on the board you have to expect a return of what has been dished out. How do you think CAK felt to be told that they would be beaten by 70 or would not stay within 40 points? Do you think that was without pain? Unfortunately, what goes around comes around major trash talking, like was done before the game by Cloudland fans, will usually come home to roost.
  14. No "cruise through" and it won't go through Cloudland either.
  15. My condolences to the Cloudland seniors. I would hope that the lesson learned by the Cloudland fans from this is to win with grace and lose with dignity. Maybe next year you will remember and will not boast and trash talk on the board. Let your team do the talking on the field.
  16. I agree, I heard a Clay Co. coach (that I thought was the head coach) state to coach Akins, as they left the field at half time, I would like to play our freshman in the fourth quarter. I know that there were several freshman in on defense for BBS when Clay Co. scored their TD. I am not 100% sure, but it looked to me like the Clay Co. players were still mostly starters. Also, BBS was running a freshman tailback in the second quarter. The offense goes to the young guys early when they get a big lead. The defense seems to worry about giving up points and cuts back on the playing time of the freshman defensive players. It is a shame that coach T has the power polls that include margin of victory. It costs younger players field time on defense because the coaches seem to want to keep points off the board in a game that is already decided. To the credit of the BBS coaches I think everyone got into the game from the BBS side of the field.
  17. The score at the half was 40 - 0. Clay county scored its TD with :35 left in the game.
  18. Just out of curiosity… are you saying that SP will beat Boyd because Boyd won the regular season game 24 - 6 and it is tough to beat the same team twice in the same year? If not, what is your reasoning?

Well said jsh969. [Edited by smithke on 12-9-02 4:45P]
  21. Absolutely, we would not be any more proud of you if you had won. We would be more proud FOR you, but not of you. You guys showed heart by not just giving up after a rough start. You played like champions and at the end of the regulation game you proved to the entire state that you are as good as the team that left with the gold football. I know there is disappointment now, but in the years to come you will look back and realize what an accomplishment this is. Your accomplishment is envied by many. Very few people ever get to the "big dance." Ask your parents, family and friends about their greatest sports accomplishment. Then you will grasp the magnitude of your achievement. Walk with your head high. We, as your fans, are filled with pride because of the way you played and the character that you displayed! [Edited by smithke on 12-8-02 7:22A]
  22. The Officials were from the Knoxville assoc. As for the holding... their mind set was to "let the teams play." There was holding that was not called both ways and in fact most of the no calls went in Cloudlands favor (View the film). However, you are so biased and compensating that you did not see it as it was. The PAT was a cheap shot and the player should have been ejected. Cloudland played very well in the first half and should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations on a great season. You should be pulling for BBS to win so you can claim that you are the third best 1A team in the state and not just the best public school.
  23. 10:18 left in the 4th quarter. Healy to Akins 13 yard touchdown pass, PAT good Farinash BBS:39 CHS:8
