  1. Anyone know what will happen to the rest of the existing staff?
  2. This isn't surprising, he's applied at least once before. I don't see how you can fault someone for trying to better their sitution (not saying MBA is a better job, but he must think so if he's applying). Would you not apply for a job if you thought it would be better for both you and your family if you landed it?
  3. I don't believe Mr. Wade teaches and there is not a Director of Football Operations position at MBA. All coaches need a non coaching position in addition to their coaching responsibilities.

I'm not sure this is the forum to "name names". MBA needs to use this situation as an opportunity to come together, address some issues, and move forward with a unified and vigorous effort to provide a top flight educational experience for boys. Nameing names is only further drives a wedge in the community. Also, Hoosier, TruthHurts, NotreDame788, your dissatisfaction over the McGugin hire has been noted since the day he was hired. I don't know what your beef is but 2 things to consider; first MBA has won more games over the past four years than any other four year period in the schools history, and second schoolwide participation in football has never been higher. To get on here and use this as an opportunity to imply that McGugin is at the center of this whole thing isn't right. No one on here knows all of the facts. Only Mr. Gioia, Daniel, and the BoT is fully informed of the situation and I trust that they will make the appropriate decision when presented all of the facts. I personally look forward to attending many more MBA football games in the future.

I never had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Carter, so I'm not familiar with the example to which you are referring. He was before my time at MBA. Discipline was never something that was taken lightly while I was on The Hill though. As for the quote from the TSSAA handbook that coachfoozeball referenced, I'm not familiar with that document or how it is or has been applied or interpreted because I'm not in a position (a coach or administrator) that would have ever required me to read it, so know one would be hanging me anywhere. I also don't know the difference in Mr. Childress' or Mr. Carter's opinions or how they enforce them. I trust the people at MBA who are responsible for being familiar with these policies and the people that enforce them to make sure the are complied with properly. If there wasn't a violation, then I don't see what the issue is. If there was a violation, then there is an issue and I would expect that the proper person would be held accountable. Again, I don't know if you meant "you" as in me personally or MBA as an institution, but I can assure you that I'm in no postion of any consequence from the TSSAA or from MBA for that matter. I'm just a former student who had a great experience at MBA and who still loves the school and its mission. I think I'm a better person for having gone there and it had a tremendous impact on my development as a person. I'm not an important person in terms of the grand scheme of MBA though. That being said, MBA is bigger than any one person, be it a student, a teacher, a coach, a headmaster, a board member, a parent, or an alumni. It's a community that has an oustanding legacy and history of educating young men who are gentlemen, scholars, and athletes, and it's a sad day when this situation or any situation fractures the bond of that community, especially in such a public way. Over its nearly 150 year history, MBA has perservered through adversity before, and I'm sure that it will do so now. At this point, I don't think I can bring anything more of substance to this discussion, and until the case is settled, I feel like the discussion is more likely to perpetuate speculation and finger-pointing than worthwhile dialogue, so I think I will quietly let this thing play itself out. Regardless of this situation and anything that comes of it, I'm really looking forward to attending Alumni Days in a few weeks, and watching some Big Red lacrosse games and football games soon and for years to come. Go Big Red!

I don't see where there is a need to be objective. The facts are what they are. If no TSSAA violation has occurred. What is the issue?

I've checked dozens of media outlets and I'm yet to see any mention of any wrong doing by anyone at MBA. To go one step further, I've yet, in any of these discussions, heard or seen anything more than rumors/accusations. If any of the allegations were true, surely evidence would be easy to find. The selfishness and malice of these few individuals is astonishing.

  9. First, neither side ever promised anything. Both Ingle and CPA were hopeful that a very experienced former assistant coach would come and be part of the staff. You are correct that it does not appear that said coach will be coming to CPA, and you can't really blame him. CPA simply does not have the resources to compete against some of other large private schools when it comes to compensation. That being said, this is the only name that has been associated with Martin as being part of the staff, so to imply that there has been some backout en masse is incorrect. I still believe CPA fans would be wise wait and see what the full staff looks like. The head coach has more than a few football contacts. I'm sure he can put together a fine staff. Also, just from the casual observers perspective, it seems like some CPA fans may have an unrealstic perception of the school's football program. It's one thing to dominate 1A when your sending 3-4 kids from each class to Division 1 schools, but competing against the likes of Maplewood, Pearl Cohn, etc is a whole different animal. It might be time to set some more realistic goals or consider moving to DII-A.
  10. That would be great if any of the three you mentioned were interested in the CPA job. The reality is that Wade will probably be the head coach at Ensworth in the not too distant future. Even if that isn't the case, he probably makes more as the OC at EHS than he would as the HC at CPA. Why would Pack leave FRA? He has a great staff, full support of the school, and plays in the proper division. Add in the fact that Dan Crockett is committed to improving both the academics and athletics at FRA, and it's a not brainer to stay put. CPA could be an upgrade for brothers, but on the flipside he's getting to build a program from the ground up at NCS. There's also no denying that the NCS job comes with a lot less pressure. If I were a CPA fan, I would wait and see what the new staff looks like before I started complaining. You just might be surprised.
  11. Will be obvious when it's a done deal. Keep in mind, Bowers, Brothers, Pack, McGugin all got their first head coaching jobs at about the same age. Add in a couple of very experienced assistants and I would doubt CPA could do better.
  12. If rumors are true, CPA fans will be very pleased with Martin's lead assistant.
  13. The same can be said about all of the DII-AA schools. For the most part, the academic requirements are equally rigorous. This isn't quite the same as a Vanderbilt trying to win in the SEC.
  14. National Signing Day is right around the corner. Where are some DII-AA prospects expected to sign?
  15. Wade will more than likely be the head coach at Ensworth in the not too distant future. I doubt he would be willing to give up that upside in the near termm, but stranger things have bappened.
  16. Anyone else think it's weird that vandyhoosiers and hoosier dad have the exact same birthday in their profile? What a coincidence that they were both born on January 1 1970.
  17. VH, all you ever do on here is rag on Jonas. There have been several games this year, including last week's game against Ryan, where MBA's defense won the game for them. You mention Maplewood, but it's hard to do much better than a shutout. I don't know what your beef with coach Rod is, but get over it already.
  18. This has already been discussed ad nauseum, I really can't see any reason to bring it back up. Why don't we find something more productive to discuss.
  19. There does seem to be a pattern developing with some of the star players at EHS you mentioned having difficulty in the college recruiting process due to academic concerns. You don't see Vandy offering any of them and they're in its back yard.
  20. My one question is this. Why did it take two and a half years of him playing football before the parents pulled him out because his GPA wasn't on track to qualify for college athletics. At some point shouldn't the school have stepped in and limited his ability to play until his grades improved?
  21. Wow. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20101022/SPORTS07/101022047/Ensworth+s+Antonio+Richardson+may+transfer
  22. MBA will be coming off a bye week as well. I haven't seen either team play much this year, but it seems like BA really depends on that one playmaker, who I believe has been injured? Is he healthy now?
  23. I agree whole-heartedly that intelligent kids, or athletic kids, or kids who are willing to work hard can be successful regardless of the school that they attend, but I also believe that in many cases, private schools offer the best opportunities to prepare children to be successful in life. For example, the valdedictorian from Vanderbilt's law school last year graduated from MBA in 2001. The valedictorian from Vanderbilt's business school last year graduated from USN in 2001. My college roommate, who graduated from BA in 2001, is at Harvard Business School. The class president from my class at MBA, a former Morehead scholar at UNC, is pursuing a JD/MBA at Stanford. I'm sure that there are plenty of publicly educated kids with similar accomplishments, but I believe you'll find a disproportionate number of them coming from small private schools. Just my opinion though.
  24. The announcers last night said he would be fine. The BA injury looked a bit more severe. I believe it was #30. I hope not for BA, he was wild man on D.
