  1. It was announced today that Nathan Wilson will be elevated to be the next MCHS head football coach. Nathan has been the Jr. High coach for the last several years and should do a great job if given time and support.
  2. I will give SC credit they have beaten Macon frequently for several years, but putting Dekalb in that same argument is absurd. Macon is 7-5 against Dekalb since 2001 (coacht schedules) and lost one of those game on the last play of the game. I will say it is a good matchup between Macon and Dekalb, but trust me the Tigers would much rather be in 8AA year in and year out. We will not win the district every year or anything like that, but we will match up much better with the athletes in 8AA. Posty is absolutely correct with his statement and Coach Harris would have killed to go into District 8AA also.
  3. Again I don' t know all the details, but it doesn't sound like school was missed. This happened over Christmas break. Secondly you are assuming the kids wanted to go. Maybe they were forced to. I see both sides of the argument, but don't think it is as clear as some of you point out. It seems the situation is already decided, so I am moving on. As I mentioned earlier, I know the kids will cherish their time spent with grandparents over some meaningless high basketball game once they are my age.
  4. Bama you can look me up, as I don't hide behind a screen name. My name is at the bottom of every post I have ever made in my 8 years on CoachT. I am not siding with anyone, but hate it for Unicoi County as they have a pretty good team and could contend for a state tournament berth this year. I do tend to agree with EA Sports that is could have been handled differently and cooler heads would have prevailed. Some things the coach may have considered that I know nothing about is the kids track record. Have they missed practices or games in the past? Has a similar situation occured in the past and how it was handled? Did that situation help or hurt the team? Again, I don't know all the specifics, but punishing a kid for a family trip in this days time is tough IMO. Many of the kids I have coached have had little to no family involvement and because of this, it caused them enormous problems. You are referring to life lessons in many of your posts about commitment and dedication to your team, but what about commitment and dedication to your family? My high school coach taught me everyone's priorities should be God, Family, Work/School in that order. For some reason, we have pushed work/school/sports ahead of family and society is suffering from it.
  5. Guys I would put that 97 Trousdale team up against anybody. They would have won the 5A championship that year IMO. You guys are probably right not the best team ever on paper, but put them on the field and they would have held their own with any of the teams mentioned.
  6. Bama I didn't know the situation, and it is certainly a legitamate reason. However, some people would consider going to spend quality time with family a great reason also. I would trade any basketball game for a chance to spend time with my grandparents, as they are all deceased. I think we have forgotten about the important things in life and put way too much emphasis on sports. I hope the kids had a great time on their trip, and someday when they are my age look back on it and say it was well worth it.
  7. Funny thing is, the coach missed the championship game of the Nera White tournament after the boys had returned. I don't know where he was at, but it seems to be a hard line to take, when the coach misses less than a week after the young men did. I am from Macon and know nothing of either situation, but I did find this odd. Unicoi has a really good team, so I hope cooler heads will prevail.
  8. Let's see, Jackie makes about $60,000/year over at Westmoreland and has 3 wins. If my math serves me correctly that's $20,000 per win also. I am not going to say so far, because 3 is all you will get. The switch flipped for the Tigers on Friday night, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see them reel off 3 or 4 wins in a row...Looks like a rematch with Livingston, Dekalb, or White House could be in the cards. Great job to the boys and the staff, now stay focused and hungry and everything will work out!
  9. Waverly should quit making excuses...Macon has played the entire year without their starting center. She has come back the last couple of games getting maybe 5 minutes and playing on one leg. Congrats to DL, the state tournament should be a great one. I will give props to Lewis County, went to the substate game there last year and the student section was awesome.
  10. Why will the loser be at home week 11? If both teams can finish at .500, I feel confident they both will probably get wild cards. I will say this, if White House was to lose this game they probably won't finish at the .500 mark.
  11. This is not an accurate statement. Once all playoff participants have been decided, either by automatic means or by wild card, the teams will be grouped by their geographic alignment and then seeded by their final rank in these standings. Therefore a wild card can and I am guessing at some point will be seeded higher than an automatic qualifier. There is also no preference given to district alignments, therfore two automatic qualifiers from the same district could be put into separate quads. This could be a huge deal for many Middle Tennessee teams, as one could go to quad 2 and the other to quad 3 and we could have two teams from the same district playing in the championship game.
  12. Keith Goolsby was the offensive coordinator for the 2003 Tigers. That is the only team in Macon County history to ever win a playoff football game (they won 3). He did a great job that year of managing the offense and has continued to do this over the past few years at Watertown. He has won every place he has ever been and two years ago helped lead Watertown to back to back wins over Trousdale for the first time in their history. When was the last time Macon beat Trousdale two years in a row? To answer Strongside's first question, he hasn't been a head coach due to the fact he wants to remain in the area. He hasn't even applied for any head coaching openings until this year when a couple of nearby programs finally opened up. Unlike Macon County, other programs don't have a head coach opening every two years like Macon does. As for being run off, I don't believe he or Harville were run off for anything they themselves did. It was the Prock administration that was out to screw Pat Dyer over anyway possible and what better of a way than to get rid of his offensive and defensive coordinators, neither had tenure so that made it easy. Goolsby enjoyed his time at Macon and feels that he can turn the program back into the direction it was heading in 2003, which he had a hand in. It appears the committee has decided to go with Sanders, the Gallatin freshman coach, if he doesn't get the Westmoreland job. Make no doubt about it, Macon is Sanders' second choice. This makes absolutely no sense, but it is Macon County and common sense doesn't always seem to rise to the top in their decision making process. Goolsby would do a great job motivating the kids and getting the best athletes on the field, which is what Macon needs more than anything. I wish whoever gets the job the best of luck!
  13. I am under the assumption that size doesn't matter! But regardless of parking and seating capacity, everyone will still show up to root on their respective teams and i am sure nobody will be turned away at the door! Good Luck to all the teams and this should be exciting!!!
  14. Webcoach, i am going to have to disagree with you. Libscomb will cakewalk through this district. Merry could be the best pitcher in the state that nobody has ever heard of. He has beaten my team first hand on several occasions. He is a bulldog on the mound and refuses to lose. Baumgartner has the genes to be a great player and he is also a pretty good pitcher. Lyons pitched alot last year also. The big question will be hitting, but i am sure Ernie will have them geared up sitting on that fastball just like always. If they face someone that throws like 60 mph then they could be in trouble, but they will tee off on the pitchers in this district. They have seen great pitching in the past three years and have almost always been up to the challenge. This year will be no different!
  15. Actually Macon County has had several good boys basketball teams. They made the state tournament a couple of times in the 80's. In 95-96 the Tigers were nearly unstoppable, as they made it to the sub-state where they lost to Niki Arinze and the state champs MLK Royals. In fact, the Tigers could be the last 7AA team to win a region championship, as they won the 4AA championship in 98-99 before losing in the sectionals to Marcus Haislip and Marshall County. My history on other 7AA teams isn't great, but the Tigers very well could be the last team from this way to take the region crown...could someone verify that? i am really not sure. But yes they have had successful teams in the past. As for MVP, it's a no brainer. Madison Square Garden said it all, yall have three players that could have been voted MVP. Which means take one away and you are still top 2 in the district and prolly still first. Take Stinson away from Macon County and we might have three wins. It's not a knock on the other players, but really is the truth. I on the other hand think Livingston could make a run at the state tournament. They aren't athletic enough to win the state championship, but people said that during football season too! I could definitely see them taking the runner-up spot in the region tournament, but only time will tell! Good-Luck to all 7AA teams!
  16. Not the same team that lost to Macon County? Can a team really change that much in two weeks??? Livingston will win this game by....well lets just say as bad as they want to make it!
  17. Fantana you are an idiot... maybe you should just go back to the days of reading these boards instead of posting on them! You make fun of RBS... where are you from Hermitage Springs??? LOL! RBS still may be a year away from challenging Jackson or Clarkrange, but they are right on their heels!
  18. Am i missing something here? Didn't Trousdale beat the 3A STATE CHAMPS??? If that isn't a tough game then i would like to see one! I will agree that a Riverdale or somebody like that would have probably waxed Trousdale this year, but they have tried to schedule tough teams in the past and they run and hide! That is when they had to go out of state and schedule Mayfields and the team from Alabama! I will say that this year's team would have probably lost to most of the 5A schools, but where were those 5A schools in the mid 90's when Trousdale would have kicked their toe
  19. Yes it is a bold prediction, but it is the truth! This years team was an average Trousdale team and they have some youngsters coming up that will bring back nightmares for some opponents! If they get to stay in 1A, which probably won't happen... i heard their enrollment was about to make a big jump then they will win 5 of the next 10! This years team was pretty good, but they didn't have some of the playmakers they have had in the past! But they are on the way!
  20. In terms of area Trousdale is the smallest county in the state of Tennessee... and yes they are a football dynasty! Mark it down, if they stay in 1A they will win atleast 5 of the next 10 state championships!
  21. Again... the passing was wrong! But the score would have still been as bad even if Trousdale had run the ball all night long. Quit whining and make this fuel to get better as a team... if a 91-0 loss won't get you motivated to work harder i don't know what will. You all should feel lucky you don't support the MLK Royals in basketball... I've seen Doc do much worse than this to Macon County in basketball, however there wasn't any crying we learned from it and tried to work harder in practice to close the gap between ourselves and MLK. Everyone move on things will get better... well until next football season when Trousdale does this again!
  22. If Grace did suffer a grade 3 concussion it will be his second concussion in as many years... I hope this doesn't hurt his chances of playing football in the future! He stepped in after the first couple of games and has been starting at free safety as a freshman! He is a great football player and an even better kid! I wish the best for him and hope for a speedy recovery!
  23. Well who would have thought 10 weeks ago that we would be here! Good job Tigers and Tiger coaches!!! Now for the game this week... Macon has never won a road playoff game, but i got a good feeling about this one. This game will be decided by turnovers and special teams! I don't know if Notre Dame has a kicker, but i am saying Tigers prevail 24-21 with a late field goal from Uziel Hernandez!
  24. Everyone needs to cool off a little bit... i don't agree with Trousdale throwing in the second half, but other than that i say beat the other team as bad as you can running the ball! I know that they threw one touchdown pass in the second half and that was wrong, however there is no sense in beating a dead horse! RBS has been a laughing stock for the past two decades and Trousdale has beaten them this bad before, but what i am wondering is what RBS is going to do about it? Are you going to get your players in the weight room and work your tails off? Are you going to do all the extra running during the summer? Until your answers to these questions are yes, quit complaining and work harder to keep games like this from happening! I'll side with both teams in some ways and throwing the ball up by 70 is wrong, but at some point RBS has to step up and stop somebody!!! By the way nobody from RBS has mentioned that the 3rd and 4th quarters were shortened to 8 minutes! I say Trousdale called off the dogs, because it could have easily have been 150-0! My cousin is a freshman on Trousdale's team, and he was their leading rusher on the night. I am not ever going to tell him to take a dive as hard as he and the rest of his team works throughout the year! If i am a freshman and have not played much throughout the year, when i get the chance i am going to show what i can do. Again, throwing up by 70 is wrong but at some point RBS has to hold theirselves accountable!
  25. I just noticed something Catfish. If Dekalb wins out and Macon loses to Greenbrier, then they would get in as the number four team! I guess we can say Sycamore is the only team officially eliminated due to only having one remaining region game.
