  1. Fumble recovery by Greeneville at the end of the third.
  2. Legg is not returning to the field.
  3. 35-3 Greeneville. Coach Conley is doing the right thing. Seems like he is trying to get his guys back under control.
  4. Getting ugly in Greeneville. 28-3 Greeneville. Gibbs just threw an interception and picked up 4 unsportsmanlike penalties for 60 yards tacked onto the interception return.
  5. Greeneville 21 - Gibbs 3 3:45 to go until halftime
  6. Unfortunately, what affects wrestling was not (and probably will not) be considered because the districts and regions were based on football and basketball. Wrestling just fell wherever it fell. Classifications will be addressed again in 2013 but I don't see them putting the needs of wrestling over the needs of football and basketball. That may not sit well with us, but that it the current climate.
  7. You know, this argument always ticks me off. I know we got some money for that field. I won't dispute that. But, it's not like we started playing sports here in 2005. You want to talk about sports at GHS. I'll tell you about sports at GHS. How about all of the time that Coach Sorrells, Hollowell, O'dell, Franklin and others spent on grading the old grass field here? How about the hours that Coach Keicher spent painting and mowing that old grass field? How about the time that coaches have spent mopping mats or sweeping basketball floors? How about the hours that our parents are in the concession stand or selling t-shirts or washing gear? Yeah, that's all just luck. Yeah...money, sure....that's it. That's why this high-paid wrestling coach from GHS gets a coaching supplement that works out to about $0.12 per hour. I'm willing to bet that the football, basketball, track, cross-country, etc get the same kind of supplement. That's why I'm gone from my family for one or two weeks every summer at wrestling camp which, by the way, usually involves another 3 months of fundraising because, believe it or not, they're not all rich kids. The county doesn't have a monopoly on poor or out-of-work. This school and these kids didn't just luck into anything. It may look that way but you ask those coaches that were out here one summer with a grader, a shovel, and a string level how easy it was to make this place something to be proud of and see what they tell you. It takes years of dedication to build what we've got here and I certainly am not going to say no if someone offers me a few dollars to better serve my athletes. Flame on 'cause I know you don't get it.
  8. You can send the money for a new keyboard to Greeneville High School. You made me spit coffee all over mine. This was too funny. Great job. Good luck to the Vikes and the Devils this Friday night.
  9. No one will be changing classifications until after the 2012 season. That is when the next round of classifications will occur.
  10. Could you guys please post the registration form? Please and thanks.
  11. If I were to make an error in this case, I would make that error on the side that keeps me and my conscience in the clear. Fight over details and whose instructions are right if you want but see how far that gets you when you are fighting off a lawsuit or criminal charges. It's not worth a kid's life. I know we didn's have this when I played but as the other poster said, we also spent all summer in the tobacco field or the hay field and not in front of the AC.
  12. Joey, get off the boards and back into the weight room. Please, you are too young to be posting here and will only get trampled by the serious posters.
  13. From the www.greeneville.com - Brad Woolsey has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Greeneville High School. Woolsey succeeds Bill Duncan who resigned that position, as has recently taken the head coaching position at Scott County High School. Woolsey played his prep basketball under Herb Hawks at Greeneville and continued his basketball career and education at Carson Newman. Woolsey was a 4-year letter winner at Carson Newman and in his senior year was awarded the South Atlantic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in basketball in 2001, which is the most prestigious honor for a student athlete in their respective sports. Woolsey was assistant under Bill Duncan and the last three years has been the Freshman head coach.
  14. AC, What 12 weight classes? Here are mine: 112, 118, 126, 132, 138, 145, 155, 165, 175, 195, 220, 285 Of course, we will disagree because you wrestled 119 and I wrestled 145. I thought that I remembered you saying once that you like watching the little guys because you think the light weights are the best wrestling. I kinda prefer the middle weights. I don't really like how the upper weights look but I couldn't think of anything better. I like to watch good 215 pounders wrestle. I almost moved heavyweight to 290 but that would just encourage more snoozefests.
  15. perfessor, I like the idea of going back to 12 weight classes so I am not going to call you any names. So far, two regions have posted and the majority are NOT fielding full teams. Obviously, something is not working. I don't think that we are really interested in making the sport grow. Most coaches just say that so they will look good to the other coaches in their area. They really just want the sport to grow at their school and will vote in a manner that most benefits them. If they can find a 103 easily, then they love option A. If you have a ton of big guys, then the other options are more appealing.
  16. Not much proof but here it goes. Let's start with the argument that we all seem to agree on....the sport of wrestling needs to grow. Number of schools with wrestling: AAA - 82 AA - 47 A- 18 % of schools participating in each division: AAA - 73.8% AA - 42.3% A - 11.7% I think we see where the growth needs to come from. Let's argue for fairness for a while. Avg. number of wrestlers per team making it to the state tournament: AAA - 4.12 per team AA - 1.82 per team A - 1.38 per team Ok, maybe that's not what you were looking for - How about in terms of the make-up of the brackets? % of participants at the state tournament(14x32=448): AAA - 338 or 75.4% AA - 86 or 19.1% A- 18 or 4.0% Ok, but what about those kids who just have the drive and work hard, how did they fair? % of medalists per division: AAA - 73 medalists or 86.9% A/AA - 11 medalists or 13.1% - no state champions So.....the schools with 75% of the kids at the tournament are coming home with 87% of the medals....hmmmm. Ok, so the good small schools are right there with the big boys.....right? Final Team Scores 1. Bradley 2. Cleveland 3. Science Hill 4. Soddy Daisy 5. Franklin 6. Cookeville 7. Independence 8. Brentwood 9. Mt. Juliet 10. Ravenwood 11. Greenback 14. Hixson 19. Pigeon Forge 23. Red Bank 28. Mongomery Central The fact is....no matter how bad you want to believe that things in wrestling are fair. It's just not supported by the facts. The very best small schools are not on a level playing field. Of the 104 small schools in attendance, 23 of 37 (62.2%) failed to score any points. Of the AAA schools, only 34 0f 71 (47.8%) failed to score any points. There it is...my take on the A/AA argument. Flame away.
  17. Congratulations, Greg and Pigeon Forge. Good luck at the state tournament.
  18. I am not so sure. I seem to remember something from the weight management meetings that concerned a change to how minimum weight was used. Please check to be sure, but I think that if you are able to be a 145 pound wrestler at 146.9, then after Christmas, you are an eligible 145 pound wrestler. Again, please have your coach check with TSSAA but I think the rule changed to allow this.
  19. Greeneville defeated Happy Valley 48-32 last night but we couldn't get by Sullivan East. The Patriots beat us 45-33. It was a great match and was wrestled with a lot of heart and grit by both sides. We started at 125 and coming back around to 112, the match was tied at 33-33. Congrats to Gregory Whitaker on the pin at 112, that sealed up the A/AA regional championship for his team. I am extremely proud of my young Greene Devils, those matches last night proved to me that you have the heart and guts to be wrestlers. We had our shot and that's all that you can ask for. So, barring any surprises in the next few weeks, good luck to our friends at Sullivan East in Nashville. Make Region One proud.
  20. A/AA Regional Champions gets awarded to the team with the best record during the regular season. So far this year, Sullivan East has beaten West Greene so they are in the driver's seat. SE will wrestle GHS and Happy Valley tonight so the picture will be a little clearer. If SE beats us, then they will be the A/AA region champs. Greeneville wrestles WG on Jan. 25, so if GHS beats SE, then the GHS/WG match becomes a little more important as it could set up a three-way tie for first. If WG beats Greeneville, they are still out because they lost the head-to-head with SE. Basically, if SE wins out, they are going to state. Greeneville can still win it. West Greene needs help from Greeneville to win it.
  21. MW, no disrespect intended. I was relaying information that I heard from another coach. I have not really kept up with the AAA schools this year since we got bumped down to A/AA. I had been told Jefferson County and I just assumed the match had already occurred. Good luck to all four teams.
  22. AAA Regional Duals will be at Jefferson County. Individual regions will be at Dobyns-Bennett
