  1. FLORIDA (just check the hometown's of Miami, UF, and FSU's rosters) TEXAS(UT, A&M, Oklahoma, OK ST, ARK are all loaded with Texas talent) Georgia-Florida's little brother of football talent, but still more dominant than most. California- players off of De Lesalle make this state dominant. South Carolina- Tennessee and Georgia have made a living in the Carolinas.
  2. Better equipment? So the team with the best uniforms is dominant. In most cases, athletes today are more advanced, but that Jeff team of 87' was years ahead of everyone else at the time. Put that team's talent on a modern team, and they wouldn't get beat out. I agree with missinginthesouth that the Patriot team of 87' is by far one of the most dominant teams over the last 20 years. Defensively, there's no question.
  3. Carson-Newman has always recruited small-quick athletes like Houston. I will never believe that they wouldn't be interested in a local athlete, unless if they think that they have no chance. In CN's offense, Scooter could play RB and be successful. I played with an All-American RB by the name of Tyrone Westmoreland who might have been 5'5, 180. The thing I like about him is that if the clocks say he runs a 4.4 flat, he runs a 4.4 flat on Friday nights in pads-he has great game speed.
  4. possum, was South Doyle in a "mirror" formation the whole time? Do they have anybody to replace Harper?
  5. I'm proud anytime an East Tennessee boy goes D1, especially in the SEC. Vandy will be pretty good in a couple of years, as long as Johnson stays. Jennings is the total package, and his grades speak for itself. Although he has been a burden to my team the last few years, I still enjoy having to work on the weekend prior to playing the PATS to see where he is on the field. Good luck.
  6. They probably wouldn't admit it , but I would bet that Seymour is happy that G-P isn't a region game anymore. As long as Hammonds is in charge, GP will always have a physical, tough bunch of kids, and will always win more than they lose. There are a bunch of players in East Tennessee that couldn't cut the toughness of Hammonds' practices. But, if you can force them to throw the ball, you can be effective against them.
  7. Sevier County- we have a 3 year old football complex with coaches offices, etc. We have a much needed brand new track. The weight room is top notch.

    South-Doyle

SD has more talent than anyone in the region year in and year out. By no means do they overachieve.
  9. Every game is decided by a few plays and calls
  10. Sevier Co Lincoln Co Baylor Lavergne These were the four teams there last year. Sevier Co., Baylor, and Lincoln are there in 03', not sure about Lavergne.
  11. Honestly, I've heard only a rumor that he was interested in the Central job-just kidding about the "offered" coment. Sevier County's rumorville still has his name popped up, but I'm almost positive that he didn't apply.
  12. I heard Dodgen has been offered the Knox Central job.
  13. with all of these coaches gone, how many teaching spots are they going to have? Why would Chait leave one week prior to spring practice? It seems like that put Meadows and the team in a bind. Wherever Meadows has been, his teams has won. Did Meadows know that Chait had a chance to leave or was it a shocker? I also don't believe that Kisbeth would return.
  14. I meant "a student who doesn't play NCAA organized athletics"-I didn't literally mean that you are not an athlete. Student atheltes are held to a higher standard, and should be. The case could be that the administration might not be the right fit, instead of the sport. I only made the smart remark because I sensed some resentment toward college athletes. Where I played in college, if we were late for a class-we got punished-so, I'm not very familiar with athletes that do what they want to do. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers-just defending my history.
  15. To have a successful product, you must invest in that product. Maybe ETSU wouldn't lose mega-bucks yearly, if serious attention was given to the football program. An athletic program can't run on it's own. Ever since I can remember, you never hear of ETSU football as much as UTC, MTSU(even when 1AA), and Carson Newman. In high school, I took a visit there, and it seemed like a scrimmage going on. ETSU has always had talented players. I just don't believe that it is marketed enough. On the other hand, ETSU basketball is well heard of. As a football coach, I can't believe I'd ever see the day in which higher level football programs have the chance of getting cut. What scares me is if football at ETSU gets dropped, then who's next? There's nothing that iritates me more than some non-athlete making discriminiating comments about student-athletes. You need to find a science or math chat line. Academics is the primary reason for college, but athletics, especially football(if done right), improves all phases of college. By the way, in college, I knew way more non-athletes than atheltes that skipped or was late to class.
  16. Morristown West beat Maryville in the regular season in 2001. (I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but I think this is right).

We got Texas A&M's off-season workout program. Josh has always jumped up in weight easily, so when I say on pace, I mean that if he improves this 6 week cycle like he has in previous cycles. I'll get a copy of this jist of our program, and let you know this week.
  18. -Dave Gorman-coached for 2 years at SCHS coached in Boston and Baltimore prior. I heard he has some interviews lined up, just not sure where.

    5-A FOOTBALL

I think the freshman games need to be played on Friday nights since that's a definite indicator of the future. Freshman and JV is a farm system for your varsity. Wins and losses are always the obvious indicator, but development during and after their freshman year is more valuable than if the freshman team beat HARRY HUNGLOW HIGH SCHOOL 50-0. The only definite way to directly relate freshman success to varsity success is that it depends on if a strong freshman class with good numbers, stays together for 4 years. Now, that team will be senior dominated, and with exceptions of injuries, be pretty good. If not many of those frehman stay out for 4 years, then it all depends on the classes in front of them and behind them.
  20. You must be much smarter than Tommy Tuberville at Auburn and Billy Donovan at Florida. I bet they just signed these guys to sit on the bench. Both of these kids are talented and D1 schools don't recruit kids(especially out of state)that they don't expect to play early. Anytime an East Tennessee player gets a chance to play the big time, I'm thrilled. All of this does is plant a seed in some more schools.
  21. Has anyone heard what happened to these guys? In 92' these were the best 2 tailbacks in the state in my opinion with schools drooling over them. I never heard from Witt once he was finished at Clinton. I knew Cozart was at UT for a spring, and had tryouts with the Rams, but hadn't heard in 5 years.
  22. G-P and Seymour-always play week 10 and the less talented team of that year wins. Always for 1st place in that region. Too bad G-P dropped to 2-A, don't know if they are still going to play each other. 2-A folks better get ready because G-P plays a physical brand of football that gets the best of most teams.

    Josh Ward

I think if he was competing in the power clean and parallel squat that his max would be higher. He muscled 305 up on the clean, when his technique is better then that max will jump. In our current cycle in the weight room, he is on pace to power clean 330 in 2 weeks, and squat 625.
