  1. Gotta go w/ the owls on this!! The guys seem really pumped up and i am expecting good things!! Go Ooltewah!! Cya Tonight!!
  2. Well i dont know if it's official...but that is what i have heard...that all sports except football, bball, volley and wrestling will be cut. But again i dont know if that is a fact!
  3. HAHA!! Yes I know of the said towel you are speaking of...my email is bluedevilunt1@aol.com send me an email and i will give you my cell so i can get that back...my mom was asking me where it was the other day lol!
  4. Chatt. Central has a very poor visitors side. The bleachers actually collapse last year! I don't know if it is fixed now, though?
  5. So what does everyone think about no buses and letting 14 year olds get hardships to drive to school? I mean seriously...are these people like unstable b/c that is the most insane thing I have heard. Ooltewah has 2000 students, and only 400 parking spaces. Now tell me- how is that gonna work? I guess they will have to tear down that new softball field they just built and turn it into a parking lot...i mean since there is no more softball. And I live 5 minutes from school and it already takes me atleast 20 minutes to get there every morning, 30 minutes if there is a wreck...and I am sure there will be plenty of those if there are 14 year olds on the road! So I am looking at a minimum of 45 minutes to get to school when I live about 5 miles from the school. I don't even wanna think about how hard it is gonna be to get out in the afternoons!!!
  6. Well congratulations! Hope you have fun! I and one other girl from my squad made the All-American team at our camp as well!
  7. Yea I agree with Grad! Even though I like basketball and my boyfriend was a basketball player, to me football is more exciting. Not to mention, the season is shorter. I think I cheered for over 50 basketball games this year...it gets kinda old after the first 20. Especially when there are 2 to 3 games a week!
  8. My computer has been screwed up for a couple months now, but I have been dying to get on here and see if anyone had a thread about the budget cuts. I have read some but not all of the posts. I will be a senior at Ooltewah this year. I don't exactly understand every aspect of all this, but from what I understand with the cuts in sports the money doesn't have to be divied (spelling) out to all the sports teams equally and it is at the discretion of the individual schools to decide. So my understanding is that they could give it all to football and the rest of the sports be cut. Rumor is that Ooltewah is keeping only basketball, football, volleyball, and wrestling, but don't quote me on that because I don't know for a fact and it could very well change. At any rate, all this is a bunch of crap, and all they are doing is running our school system into the ground. I know of several people who's parents will send them to private schools if certain sports are cut, because they are going to be seniors and depending on scholarship money. It's a shame. Luckilly for me, they wouldn't let cheerleaders be part of the athletic department and we get no money from the school, so I don't have anything to worry about, but it still makes me angry. This is ridiculous!
  9. Gradfromthenest already covered that Ooltewah is the "Owls Nest" but it is also referred to as simply the "NEST"...a little more intimidating huh? haha jk
  10. I totally understand where you are coming from about the whole underclassmen deal. But think about it...it's that way in anything...in any sport or club or whatever it is...there is always gonna be a group of people or maybe just one or two who think they are better than everyone and should be running the show...and sometimes they are gonna be younger than you. But you can't let that affect you or make you want to quit something you love doing. If you choose not to try out don't do it because of those power hungry freshmen and sophomores...you are older than them..just don't let them push you around...don't be mean or hateful about it because that will just make the situation worse but make sure they know that you are a leader on the squad because you have been there longer and you have had more experience and that no one...not even the upperclassmen...should be telling anyone what to do or playing "boss"...if you choose not to try out do it because you would rather be up in the stands like mrsskewl said or it just isn't fun anymore...or there are things that are more important that you would rather focus on more! Just think about it really long and hard. You have to make the decision for yourself...that also means don't let those snotty girls make it for you. Pray about it and I am sure everything will turn out great for you no matter what you decide! GOOD LUCK!
  11. I agree with you Mrsskewl...our coach is pretty strict about the hair and jewelry thing. EVERYONE has to wear their hair up even if it is shorter than shoulder length. No jewelry AT ALL not even studs...we used to be allowed to wear studs but people abused the privelege and would wear like big ole' diamonds and stuff. And the truth is that is why their are so many rules...people abuse the priveleges they are given. Rules wouldn't be so strict if people didn't push them to the limits. So I am not complaining at all about rules...I think we need them. As a person who always obeys the rules I am given, I think it is unfair to tell one person they can wear their hair down b/c it is above their shoulders and everyone else to wear theirs up. They chose their hairstyle, but they also chose to be a cheerleader and cannot expect to have the rules stretched for them and not everyone else. That is just one example.
  12. Varsity-2nd place JV-1st place dance-5th place
  13. This weekend February 28 and the 29, Ooltewah High School is sending all 3 spirit squads (Dance team, Jv Cheer and Varsity Cheer) to the Athletic Championship National Series! We could use all the support we can get and would appreciate it if Ooltewah fans could make it out to cheer us on! Come on...it's the least you can do...especially if you have played any sport that we have cheered you on in!! The competition is to be held at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center in downtown Chattanooga! All squads will be competing both Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday schedule is as follows... Dance Team- 9:28 AM (ARENA A) JV Cheerleading- 11:56 AM (ARENA A) Varsity Cheerleading- 1:04 PM (ARENA A) On Sunday squads will be competing in reverse order of rank in their division on Saturday. This is a very big National Competition w/ over 450 squads expected in attendance, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to make it out if you can! And if you are an Ooltewah fan reading this post, please let everyone know and encourage other people to come too! Thanks so much!! -FLIPN4OHS GO OWLS!!!
  14. BigDawg I was going to mention your ACT score and the 6 on the writing assessment...but I didn't want to make you blush or anything! haha!
  15. I have a feeling this game is gonna be another suspenseful one much like the game on tuesday night with Central. Both teams are great, and it is going to be really close! But I am going to say the Owls will win this win because I think they want it more!
  16. I CANT dunk seeing as I am a girl and 5'4" haha BUT I was still laughing...as everyone was laughing at the 3 cheerleader pile-up when many of those laughing can't do what our cheerleaders were doing...it's ok though because those girls were even laughing, but had they been hurt that woulda been way uncalled for! But they wern't so its ok lol!
  17. HaHaHa StayNSkool!! Anyway, a couple things, yall are talking about how Ooltewah does so much trash talking...well calling bigdawg an idiot and scarface a "you-know-what" (I prefer not to use such language as I find it offensive and tacky..and believe that cursing is a sign of a weak mind) anyway...you don't consider THAT trash talking or a personal attack? And I am gonna defend BigDawg for a second here...I know him pretty well he is one of my friends and he is anything BUT an idiot. In fact, he is one of the most intelligent people I know. Like StayNSkool said...a lot of people don't take the time to use spell check and proofread their posts 5 times. He might have misspelled a couple words but in no way "butchered" the English language. Next, has any Ooltewah fan ever said anything about our teams being the best in the state? We take pride in our school and like to support our teams and athletes. School spirit wasn't a crime last time I checked. And Ooltewah CAN and DID compete with both Cleveland and Rhea County. The Owls gave both teams a run for their money and kept them on their toes...even lead throughout most of both games! Yes..both ended up beating us...but in very close down to the wire games...so how can you possibly say that Ooltewah can't compete with either team? As for Bradley...I don't know since Ooltewah hasn't played the Bears yet. I know they are an awesome team and I am not going to say that Ooltewah could kill them or anything, but I am sure the Owls could hold their own against Bradley as they did against the Raiders and the Golden Eagles! Hopefully we will find out next week!! By the way hester...embarraSSing has 2 S's...I am sure you noticed that though since you are such an expert on grammar to criticize bigdawg's grammar!
  18. Who cares about football? Everyone knows Ooltewah's football team had their worst season in 4 or 5 years...that's no news! But both basketball teams are great teams and pretty evenly matched...that's what counts! Have you ever heard the quote "To be the best you have to beat the best"? Well our football team was obviously not at its best this year. Basketball is a different story...now when you play a team that gives you a challenge and you can't just run all over them but you STILL beat them...there's something to brag about and be proud of...so all i gotta say is...BASKETBALLLLL BASKETBALLLL BASKETBALLLL! lol As for the refs...I thought they were very fair...i mean there were a couple bad calls both ways, but for the most part they seemed to be unbiased. WHAT A GAME THOUGH!! Way to go Owls! That was the most nerve-wracking game I have ever watched! It was like in the movies where everything is in slow motion and it's all quiet right as Sherman shoots the ball! HE MAKES IT...and everyone goes CRAZY!!! That was AWESOME!! Keep it up Ooltewah!! GO OWLS...BEAT Brainerd!!!
  19. Wow..that was a great game last night! Both teams played really hard! I thought the Owls were going to win this one, but still a great effort from Ooltewah. They proved anyone who thought "Ooltewah can't hang w/ Cleveland" and "Cleveland is in a whole diff. league" wrong! The Owls are definetely up there with the raiders and should be proud of that game. Oh...and I'm gonna be sure to bring Cleveland's coach a pacifier to the region tourney for all those fits he throws!
  20. HaHa True grad...But are you gonna notice if my head is back or my chin is touching my chest when Im doing a basket toss? lol
  21. What a great game!! Go Owls!! YAY!! :justwrestle:
  22. I realize she did not specify, but I don't think anyone is really looking that closely. lol. At games, for instance, most people don't even pay attention to the cheerleaders unless of course they do something that is noticibly unsafe or wrong. But eagle is correct, you might wanna check on that. That is just the way I was always taught to do baskets for both my high school and allstar team and what has worked best for me.
  23. Well I am a Junior and I have been cheering on my high school squad since I was a freshman, I have been on an all-star squad for 6 years, and from seeing teammates graduating and going on to cheer in college I would have to say that the 2nd option would be your best bet. Either one I am sure would be very impressive, but with school cheering and allstar cheering experience that shows you have the traditional cheerleading skills like actual cheering, motions, spirit, etc. plus the competitive skills like tumbling, stunting, etc. That shows that you are a well rounded cheerleader and not strictly a sideline cheerleader or a cometition cheerleader. If you are planning on trying out for a Co-Ed squad in college I would definitely consider a Co-Ed Allstar squad as many colleges require you to have previous Co-Ed experience to try out and a lot of high schools don't have Co-Ed squads. Hope I have helped!
  24. It is not illegal at all competitions to throw your head back in a basket. Maybe at a couple competitions, but I know for sure that it is not illegal at any of the competitions my squad has competed at this year, because we throw our heads back in our baskets. We have not been disqualified or had points taken off at any competition. This includes the TSSAA State Championship.
  25. Well the only thing the flyer can really do to make the basket higher is to load in correctly and keep a nice hollow body position on the ride. As for loading in I always try to remember the following...stand on your toes not your heels, keep your weight in your arms until the toss, and look down your front spots back...continue to look down their back throughout the toss. This helps keep that hollow body position. Other tricks...you can try pike-arches, half up toe thouches, half up birds...etc.
