  1. Well..I don't know that much about the other schools..cause I don't know that much about basketball in general..BUT since my good buddy MNewBaller says Bradley will be #1 I will agree with him..then Ooltewah #2 and Central #3..but other than those teams I'm not sure!
  2. No..I meant I am gonna own my own allstar cheerleading gym. It won't be me cheering, but I will be teaching cheerleading.
  3. It is gonna be my career choice..well actually I am gonna run my own gym, and my coach said I would easily be able to make $200,000 a year.
  4. Maryville Rebels, I agree. We do serve no point at wrestling matches. But like I said I have no choice, but to cheer. The wrestlers don't like us there, but the wrestling coaches want us there so we have to. They have actually gotten mad when we didn't come to some of the matches.
  5. There isn't really anywhere to go after college to actually cheer. I would never want to be a cheerleader for a pro football or basketball team. Although I am sure it is hard work...it just isn't the type of cheerleading I like. I would rather be tumbling and stunting, than dancing. On the other hand, there is always coaching, which is what I want to do. I want to open up my own allstar cheerleading gym. My coach is the president over United Cheerleading Inc. and he is doing something he enjoys and is getting really good money doing it.
  6. If cheerleading were considered a sport at more colleges, it would definitely help build programs, especially at schools whose cheerleading programs are not very good. Yes, some schools offer partial scholarships for cheerleading, but that is few and even fewer schools offer full cheering scholarships. For girls at least..if they do offer scholarships..they go to the guys first and whatever money is left goes to girls based on need and talent. Most schools, though, aside from U of Kentucky, Hawaii Pacific, UT, and a few others..don't have the money because the money they get doesn't come from the athletic department.
  7. HaHa! Yea it was good clean fun, mnewballer! Too bad they made us stop doing that, too. Oh well. I say the Owls are definitely going to win this one. There is no reason they shouldn't.
  8. OldSkool...I think you were being generous saying 5'2"..he is shorter than Sam Webb and she is only like 5'1 or 5'2". I'd say he is about 5 feet even, maybe 5'1".
  9. The REFS are awesome!!! They are totally into the game and they DONT stop cheering CentralBasketball. When yall played us, I couldn't even hear yall after the 2nd quarter, except for occasionally..and yall were WINNING! All the more reason to be getting pumped up. Our REFS and the whole student section for that matter were cheering even when everyone knew our boys were beat. All the more reason to just pack up and go home, which is probably what the Barrel Boys woulda done had the scenerio been switched.
  10. CentralBBall you need to chill out! You say Ooltewah has been talking crap and yall don't do that at Central. That's real funny b/c no one from Ooltewah has said anything, and you are over there talking about the "Ooltewah Homos". And all the REFS have been talking about how they can't wait to play yalls Barrel Boys. So I am pretty sure they aren't afraid. You must have some kind of insecurity issues or something b/c you can't get off Ooltewah.
  11. He sure didn't hurt it at cheerleading, he hardly ever comes and he doesn't do anything when he does come.
  12. Actually he hurt his wrist at football practice. And he will be playing this Friday I am almost positive.
  13. Wil Blowe is my hero!!! I love Zack Sabin, too! Go Hixson!
  14. That's fascinating..did you learn that in chemistry class?
  15. Oldskoolballa..I agree with you in a sense..cheerleading is judged, which means that there are no set scores..like in football when you get a touchdown you get 6 points. That's the way it is there are no questions about it. At a cheerleading competition there are a range of scores in a range of categories, and you are judged by up to 10 different judges with 10 different opinions. For example, on the score sheet, in tumbling you can score anywhere from a 0 to 10. It's all a matter of opinion, though, so the best team doesn't always win, which stinks. Cheerleading is definitely a different type of sport than football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, etc. But I don't think that excludes them from being a sport. Like you said that would also exclude diving and gymnastics and probably a few other sports, too. And I think cheerleaders, gymnasts, and divers are all athletes. I also agree that just because something is hard it doesn't make it a sport...school is hard, but it's definitely not a sport. But I know for a fact that cheerleading is very physically demanding and does require a good deal of athleticism and talent.
  16. Once again, I am going with Ooltewah.
  17. I think our band is really good, and i agree that they are one of the best in the state maybe even the country. But the purpose of a band at a football game is to get the crowd involved and pump up and support the team. When Gatewood is making his last remarks after a loss, happy clown music just gets everyone down, not to mention we can't here what Gatewood is saying. I understand that the band is proud of what they do, but there is a time and place for that. you don't see the cheerleaders running through there competition routine or cheers after the team loses, we're over there with everyone else, upset that we lost.
  18. I live in Ooltewah and go to Ooltewah High School. Also cheer there. I think Soddy Daisy is well deserving of being picked the best cheerleaders. I think there are a lot of good squads out there, but I am most familiar with Soddy since I am in that area. I really respect them for all their hardwork..and it just shows that hardwork pays off. I wish that everyone on our squad was as dedicated as yall are, we could probably accomplished a lot just like yall. Our coach is a former Soddy cheerleader and so was her sister, she also lives near the church the Soddy girls practice at. She told us just the other day, that they practice EVERY DAY until 5:30. And that when she is passing the church coming home from our practices they are still there. That is so awesome! Now that is dedication and hard work!
  19. I don't think cheering for wrestling is a good idea. I personally don't mind doing it, but most of the girls on my squad hate it. But like fluddanzr said, I know nothing about wrestling. When I cheer at wrestling matches I feel like I am just in the way and being a distraction. Some wrestlers have told me that we DO get in the way, and when we are banging on the mats they sometimes confuse it with the refs. But the coaches want us there, so we gotta do it, sorry to all the wrestlers who think it is stupid and wish we wouldn't come.
  20. the REFS are a much better spirit section than the barrel boys. I will admit that the barrels were creative, but so are ref shirts. But I was not impressed by the barrel boys at all...yall were loud for like the 1st quarter then after that yall really died down, even when yall were winning! The REFS were on there feet screaming and making noise till the very end of the game!
  21. I agree that JUST cheering on the sidelines is not a sport. But when we are doing stunts and tumbling at games, thats not just cheering. But for the most part our practice and competitions is what makes cheerleading a sport.
  22. Actually Mchsballer..tssaa did NOT sanction cheerleading as a sport. It is a sport by law in georgia, but not in tennessee. If it were, we would not be able to compete at a national level, which I am somewhat thankful for because the TSSAA State Championship is the only really good competition in Tennessee. And I guess I can talk, because I DO know all about 3 hour practices AND running. I am not allowed to run more than a mile at a time, not to get on the thing about injuries b/c you can hurt yourself walking down the stairs, b/c I have bursitis and a plica in my knee from cheering.
  23. well mchs...tumbling isn't the only thing that requires any talent. And even if it was so what? Tumbling requires a tremendous amount of talent..human bodies were not meant to tumble they weren't made for it and it's almost like defying gravity to be able to tumble well. You just don't know how much talent tumbling actually involves. I consider myself a pretty good tumbler, and there are so many things I have to do and think about when I am tumbling. I have to run just the right speed, take the right amount of steps, place my hands at the right place on the ground, keep my whole body tight, stay on my toes, and use my arms to flip and twist my body..if that's not talent then you are crazy. Other than tumbling..stunting requires a great deal of talent..no matter if you are a base, flyer, or back spot. Do you think it is easy to hold a person up over your head while she pulls her leg up to her head. And equally important, do you think it is easy to be the one standing up there on just someones hand doing tricks that a lot of people can't even do standing on the ground. Does it not require talent to be able to dance well? Does it not require talent to memorize dances, routines, and cheers? And if you don't think it requires talent to get through a 2 and 1/2 minute routine of non-stop tumbling, stunting, dancing, and running around with a SMILE on your face, you need to spend a day in my shoes. I am not saying that cheerleading is any harder than any other sport, because honestly the only other sport I have done besides cheerleading is softball. But I know that cheerleading is a challenge for me. And I have respect for all other athletes and what they do and the time and effort they put into the sport they love, so have a little respect for me.
  24. Cheerleading is definitely a sport I don't care what anyone says. Well, atleast I think MY type of cheerleading is considered a sport. Just doing cheers on the sidelines at games isn't really a sport, although it can get tiring and requires a good deal of athleticism. But cheering on a competition squad or an allstar squad IS a sport, no doubt. I practice 5 days a week for a total of 9 or 10 hours a week. Competition squads require their cheerleaders to be in excellent shape, perform certain tumbling skills (which means if you think gymnastics is a sport then so is cheerleading). And instead of lifting weights cheerleaders lift people. I am definitely not going to say that cheerleading is harder than this sport or that sport, but in my experience it has been very challenging and demanding. I think that anyone who thinks cheerleading is so easy, would be surprised if they went to a couple of my practices.
