I was at the girl's state tournament, in the Bradford-Clarkrange game on Friday, one official completely dominated the game from start to finish. At the 2 minute mark of the third quarter we began to keep track of the fouls called by individual officials. From that point through overtime, one official whistled 16 fouls, and the other two whistled 4 fouls. Two of the four fouls whistled from the other two officials was a double foul, block/charge. I guess they were not getting into the action and neither would back down from his call. I had no dog in the race but I did not go to the games to watch grown men run up and down the court and dictate the game. Officiating is a tough job, but if you choose to do it, please do it without a chip on your shoulder. Officials are like the TSSAA office itself, not accountable to anyone but themselves.

I find this ruling to be an example of how the TSSAA has forgotten why it was formed. They are a representative governing body, but i find it hard to understand who they represent or who they are accountable to. Very few of their rulings have the kids who compete as their most important aspect. At some point, common sense and fairness of competition need to be considered, not a technicality or even more so the almighty dollar. I have no ties to either school, but as a fan and a coach of high school athletics, I find this to be an injustice. What was wrong with continuing the game today? The TSSAA should have to send a representative to explain to those kids why their season ended, you would have to heartless to give this explanation.

Back when it took three technical fouls to be ejected, I received two and if it had not been for my assistant would have been gone. Two girls got into a fist fight in the lane as the ball was going to the other end of the court, my player who was involved came to the bench bleeding from the nose. I stood up and hollered to the officials that there had been a fight and I had only four players on the floor. The official called a technical foul on me and told me to coach my team and let him officiate, it was obvious he had no idea what I was telling him, he only knew I was yelling. I earned the second technical and was going for the hat trick when my assistant reeled me in.

I played for Coach Gibson at Loudon on the 1974 team and now coach at Loudon. I have the utmost respect for Hoot as a coach and a person. I wish him and his family well as he goes through this time.

I was interested in how Coach Gibson is getting along, can you give me a report?

1976 Loudon team defeated eventual state champion Maryville in the regular season 21-0, but only had an eight game schedule and did not qualify for the playoffs due to an upset loss early in the season. Loudon was coming off of back to back state championships and probably could have three-peated.

Sadie 33, this is one of the best posts that I have ever read on Coach T. You touched on many of the aspects of sports that should make it an enjoyable experience for all. It is easy to second guess, criticize, and complain, when things do not go to suit us, but true character is revealed when things are not perfect. I admire your views as I also have been involved as a player, coach , and a parent, and although we would all do somethings different than the person in charge,we must realize that in the end, it is still just a game.

I had the priveledge of playing for Coach Gibson on the 1974 team at Loudon, he taught me many things besides the game of football that I have tried to take into my career as a coach. The thoughts and prayers of the Loudon football staff and the Loudon community are extended to him and his family during this trying time.

The bottom line is that the people who run the TNT tournament make you feel welcomed and do a nice job of running a classy event, the TSSAA makes you feel like they are doing you a favor for running a tournament since you had to pay $300 to belong.

82CAT, You state that the schools have written certain rules that the TSSAA only applies, you speak as if the schools run the TSSAA. If that were so, the votes taken each year by the grand divisions on certain issues would be binding. We all know that the final say is with the legislative boards and the executive director on all issues of substance, many times the schools have voted one way on a certain matter and the TSSAA implemented a different plan. To lay any decision by the TSSAA at the feet of the member schools is feeble.If we are making all these decisions why do we give them 50% of all the playoff gates, why is the Spring Fling on each end of the state, why are appeals treated like the plague?

You got to go with what you know. If you go to the "I" you will make yourself a liitle easier to defend. You can get your power out of the base wing. Believe what you believe.
