  1. The point is starting them younger. Get kids at early ages and be part of more than just Folkstyle, that way they dont get burnt out. Make it interesting and fun, Travel as much as Possible and do Freestyle and Greco as well. They may learn and excel at one style more than the others. You have to have help yes that is true, but Quality over Quantity any day.!
  2. Every school I have ever been apart of has always had one paid Head Coach and one paid Asst Coach for Wrestling both at Middle and HS levels. Yes Football has more Coaches but it takes more for that sport.
  3. I think if they are to really improve, it starts before HS. They have to have clubs to run elem levels and the Schools must adopt Wrestling in the Middle school levels with paid Coaching Positions. Middle and HS need to have on campus faculty/coaches that are not run by AAU or USA.
  4. It is a National Level exposure tournament for Middle and Lower School. But still the TMSAA has a strong hold on it if your team Eligibility has been turned in. They need to open their eyes and minds to allow Individuals to compete.
  5. Actually you can wrestle in this even if your Eligibility sheet has not been turned in. Once the Roster is turned in with your name on it, you can not compete in Open Tournaments. That is the problem with TSSAA. They want to control everything and this limits kids being able to compete and get National recognition. It is a great opportunity for schools that only have few wrestlers who really cant fill out full teams and other teams do not want to schedule meets, cause it is a waste of time and money spent for referees.
  6. You dont need a big amount. Just look at those who do and the benefits they get from Wrestling. Put a Football player against a Football/Wrestler anytime and I will bet majority of wins go to Wrestler on the Field.
  7. This only shows how Wrestling and Football go together especially for Linemen. More Coaches need to open their eyes and accept the fact an in shape Athlete is way better than just a big body.
  8. Coach V-----That should say COAHULLA Creek
  9. What is a Cleveland Wrestler doing in the score?
  10. Well that all depends on what structure you are following under. Is it a League that falls under TMSAA or another affiliation? Or if your in a specified conference that does not allow it. I was informed by TMSAA that you if you are part of them, that you can hose events and have members who come participate that are not members, so if you host you could wrestle AAU or what ever. But you could not go compete at place that is structured not under the guidelines like TMSAA. So it all depends on the league/conference you belong to.
  11. Drinkwine, I like the way you are motivated regarding wrestling. I hope to get on board with the TWF and become a board member. Thru your desire and fire to keep and improve wrestling in Nashville during the school year that should hopefully motivate kids to belong to programs that offer Olympic styles of Wrestling and opportunities to travel all over. Best of luck and wish you the best.
  12. Ghouse, Any interest in a Girls Division at the Tourny? I am just checking around for schools that have asked me about an interest in getting girls events.
  13. True that most of TN Coaches do not know Freestyle and Greco rules and the constant changes that go along with it. They want to focus most of their time and effort to only teach and coach that what they know. In fact if they learned the other styles it would benefit their wrestlers tremendously with being able to change styles and techniques. Rules do constantly change which keeps it fresh and have to be able to adapt in order to excel. Some coaches do not like change or want others to coach their wrestler. If someone is more qualified then let the kids get assistance when and where ever they can, Coaches do not need to worry about egos but rather performances.
  14. Replay of the Event will be on ESPN U on Thursday at 4 P.M.
  15. Wow how come the Asst Coach did not get the Head position? Is Tim not still at ND?
  16. Why is Solomon not going? Yeah I wanted to see how he did just prior to college.
  17. The agreement with TSSAA and TWF years ago was that no Folkstyle wrestling would be conducted after the State Tournament. Only Freestyle and Greco would be held for HS athletes.
  18. That may work if you are only wanting FS/GR to grow, which is needed. Unless you have a new group of officials come just for Folk, there will be lots of calls and positions missed by doing it last after the other styles. The periods are longer, scoring much different and now you have to factor in beliefs with who is stalling. Referees are much fresher in the morning to do the long six min plus overtime matches.
  19. It only makes sense to run the Folk style first. The matches take the longest amount of time to complete. Some will not even compete in Freestyle or Greco. Get the long part of the day out of the way with Folk and then the faster scoring and pins with the other styles. IT is easier on the refs also to do Folk first. Plus that is the way the tournament schedule has run since the Ironman was created.
  20. Warning: memcache_connect() [function.memcache-connect]: Can't connect to internal.memcached.coacht.net:11211, Connection refused (111) in /mnt/wwwroot/boards/ips_kernel/classCacheMemcache.php on line 90 Guy who are the officials registered?
  21. Tournament Canceled Teams Backed out. It is bad to have tournaments then not have athletes participate.
  22. They dont hit fro mmthe same distances. So are the rules gonna change for girls. Should just be Freestyle...what they will wrestle in college and beyond if they have the opportunities.
  23. Great way to get your info shared with the wrestling community Ferguson.
  24. This is not possible if their HS cannot field a full team. A lot of schools will not schedule meets during the year against schools that only have a few wrestlers. Now the charge for a dual meet to be added just because of another school is listed is ridiculous. The cost out weighs its worth for home schools or schools to travel to their place for only a couple of guys. It is really hard to blame small schools for not having a lot of wrestlers but admire them for the quality they provide. I know because I went to two different HS in GA first only had 300 students and other 500 students. Wrestled at both and won state at both A, and beat all classifications during the year, mostly from tournaments few duals. So you can be the best in the state and not wrestle in the same divisions and all know who the better wrestlers are. It is just limited on competition dates and events these days. Let them wrestle where they are classified and if they want to have bragging rights go to the same tournys or wrestle each off season tourney. Go undefeated and you can not deny them being the best.
