  1. Should rideing time be put back into high school wrestling, or does this just teach rideing which in it by itself is Stalling?
  2. Good point Asylamar!! I can truely understand this given the fact that I lost in the state finals my soph. yr. The referee called me for stalling-pushing my man off the mat to avoid wrestling. I tried to explain that how can I push him when he is constantly backing away. With no satisfaction I lost , but the next year that same official did come to me and apologize at another tournament. He said he had not seen my style of wrestling and therefore was thinking I was just pushing him. In that point more officials do need to be aware of who is stalling and not wanting to wrestle but to just waist time!! I learned from that and also believe that if one throw is not gonna work then change off and attempt another. We should all be free to attempt and execute or fail trying to maneuver our opponent into being thrown without stalling. Maybe good reason freestyle and greco refs tell the color wrestler to "head up" or "open" not to block off and stall..
  3. why does everyone ensist on shots being taken. no where does it say that a wrestler has to shoot, whats wrong with throwing your opponent. it is really nice to watch when someones feet are going above their head.
  4. To Tojo Ref and BB Coming from a standpoint of observer I might add that sum shcools must wait til after the H.S. season is over in order to have Mats not to mention Coaches. Alot of schools have to use H.S. mats and it is the H.S. coach who has to coach them as well. Now others are fortunate to have mats, practice facilities and Coaches willing to take this on. As for a middle school state touny it will never happen sum to do with the same things and also that TMSAA does not want to take it to that level. Nothing beyond a district level at most, they feal that it would put to much emphasis on Winning-Loseing not just the Competeing, enjoyment of the sport. Their are other areas of the state that have good middle school wrestling but they do not belong to TMSAA and are not associated with TSSAA therefore must wrestle under club level or other association. Greeneville and the schools up that way do their wrestling after the holidays when they start up and have had sum good competitors.
  5. Main thing is if a heavy want's to be slick he is best to do it in the middle where he is to be sure and score. Why waist alot of energy on a more that may score or may not, have more confidence and do it in the center, dont take of not getting the call or not ending on top in bounds.
  6. I believe it is modified.
  7. I guess some one has gone and purchased alot of material for singlets. The rules have changed for the singlet to now be the hi-style. No longer the low cuts. I can see this sum what for greco because it lessens the chance of getting hands trapped when doing guts. Maybe they just want the girls and guys to wear the same style now wanting to discriminate and not let the girls wear the low cuts.
  8. DMX It is a modified match with it being 1 three min. period. It has been held for the last two years. Not all that big of a turn out but sum good competition mainly for the younger kids. Heck Rick "WHOOOOAAA" Flair brought his kid over to wrestle from North Carolina two years ago.
  9. the head gear allows time to be taken to get it reajusted when it gets out of place. Alot of wrestlers also get taken down when they are figgiting with them. Lets just have the option. Heck sum kids do want to get cauliflower ears, when I was in a college we had a guy on the team take glass salt shakers and bang tehm together on his ears in a effort to get the look of cauliflower ears. He was not the brightest tool in the shead.
  10. It is only in the jr and above categories that you can make them take it off. It hinders alot of movers to be completed and I personally think it makes you more apt to get hit in some such as a headlock. My personal thought goes to the H.S. and above wrestlers that are Jr or Sr in H.S. anyway. Relapse I may be wrong for Freestyle except in the upper levels of competition but I know no head gear is allowed for Greco.
  11. Should head gear be an option for H.S. wrestlers? It is in freestyle and you are given the option of makeing your opponent take his off if you wish. It is not allowed in open international level wrestling.
  12. The test study was also beneficial as the point of showing the guys who keep on wrestling on an average only put on 5 pounds with the week of wrestling. The one weigh-in showed how those who do well and place are the ones who keep thier weight under control and not way out of balance. The good quality wrestlers already know how to do thing the right way and as long as they continue that routine their hard work and effort will show.
  13. Well yes I am a 275-286-264 wrestler, and I believe that i do know just a bit about upper wgt. wrestling. No not all heavys wrestle like little guys but aour moves are executed with force and percission. It's harder to get away from a good heavy that it is especially when you are on your back. It also teaches not to make mistakes because just the smallest ones can end your match if not career real quick.
  14. Is this state or is H.S. along with Middle School wrestling ready to go to mat side weigh-ins? I think we better get ready because it is coming!!!
  15. If they say wrestling starts at 11 boy do they mean 11 on the dot not before and not after. They have completed 300 matches in 1 hour that is competition at its best.
  16. So who can tell what is going on with Waylon Lowe? Where will he actually end up next year? Also how is he doing this year at Findlay.
  17. Look at your College All-Americans. The majority of those guys wrestle in the other venues. To be a great wrestler one must not limit him or herself to be one dimensional. It should start before then, College, that is if they have the will and desire to be the best they possibly can become. They all go hand in hand to progress your abililty. Each style can be uses in the other formats to sum degree. Just about all the moves are able to be carried out in each style maybe with just a lil tweaking that is. We are not always gonna wrestle an opponent who is to our liking of their style, so we must adapt and change in order to beat them or get beat by them. One wants to go upper body, we can do that. One wants to go shots we can do that, or just wrestle on the mat!!! Me personally I want to beat you physically that is what I think Greco and Freestyle teach to be physically and mentally tough. You know 10 pt tech is real quick, ya gotta be on ya game from the get go. What other sport allows us to pick guys up and throw them in the bleachers and still score for the move!!!!!!
  18. Yes I agree it would only make sence, but alot of kids decide not to do it. Mot sure if it is not knowing how or just scared to try it up there. Not every kid in that tourny is a great wrestler, sum are just your average wrestlers but most are sum studs also.
  19. Good luck to all who go to and represent Tennessee!!!! May this be our best showing and come away with many All--Americans!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Who can tell me how the Girls State Tournament Went? Do we have any girls that could place at the Nationals in Fargo this year???
  21. I was wondering who has the intentions of going both styles this year in Fargo? Will we have any Cadets or Juniors to make All-American Honors this year in Freestyle, Greco-Roman or maybe both??????
  22. since when has bradley been a part of freestyle? not very long have they I thought Steve swayed away from it?
  23. regards goes to Jeff Price he is a very good coach who has done alot at at each school he has been at. Fine job in Kentucky, Then put Jeff Co. on the wrestling scene and now has Science Hill right up with the rest of the state. Good job Jeff
  24. Matt Clark from Powell would have won state if he did not blow his knee out in the Region2 tournament back maybe 4 years ago. He was an All American Cadet in Fargo at the Nationals.
