  1. Have seen Central play Alcoa and Heritage in the past week in Blount county. They beat Heritage by 15 and Alcoa by 28. All of the kids are back and are Sophs and Jrs. this year. They played tough defense and shot the ball well. If the big kid can add just a little more scoring they will have the balance they need to compete in their district. Team chemistry seems to be a huge plus. I saw West play at the tip off against Fulton and they struggled on offense but a lot of teams do against the Falcons.
  2. This years classic will be called the Wazoo Hoopfeast! Only the games on the 28th and 29th will be on live internet cast. They do a great job with their live presentation. The games on the 28th and 29th are listed on their website. You can get on by going to Wazoosports.com . Hope this helps.
  3. Unfortunatly awards like the Mr. Football are pre determined in the minds of the selection group. It should be voted on after all competition for the year is complete. Look at head to head results, competition played against and the part they play to affect the team results. The ballots had to be in Oct. 31, Most were turned in far in advance. The season was not over until December. The local media voted for Smith and Rogan still almost won with votes from other areas. But Rogan has 3 championship rings and he was 70% of his championship teams offence and played the toughest schedule in 3A according to several computer models.
  4. Yes, and they say (Mr. Football group selection criteria) it is suppose to be heavily loaded to current year stats but unfortunatly the local media did not even push for him over a local player that had 50% of the stats he had. Like you guys say he has 3 rings and is going to wear the orange. His receiving yardage and defensive stats were great too.
  5. Donald, Berry, Jones, and Martin. All top 100 players. I think Tennessee truly has done the best job of getting the players they wanted this year rather than the best ones by ranking. The ones they lost in state were not a high priority. Go Vols
  6. The team that wants it the most won. Great game in the finals. I think Blevins got outcoached letting them get back in to it. 19 points is a large lead with no more points than was scored---adjustments did it at half time.
  7. Rogan from Fulton ending up setting the single season scoring record in Tennessee (308 points) and had around 2800 yds rushing in 06 according to the Tennessean. What a Career. 3 state championships that he was part of and his personal skills won 2 of them in the big games. (over 8yds a carry career)
  8. Great job. Good effort to do a legitimate team. It could have gone either way in some cases. At least it is not a "fraternity team" where there was obvious bias. For example the Football Coaches group being promoted by the TSSAA. Only a few coaches voted and the team is not consistent with criteria for an all state team because each coach named 2 of his players. A team should be considered based on all of the players in the state. I think the Tennessean did attempt to have one team accross the state and did base it on this years contribution. If the Mr. Football ballots had been based on this years contribution as they say it is there would also have been different winners. It is great to see a team named after all of the results are in.
  9. Lou Holtz gave ND their last championship according the ND website----1988. They have not won a bowl game since 1994. It will be 10 in a row this year. ND is 75-46 since 1997. (60%) Their BCS bowl appearance is based on ranking not a conference championship.
  10. Smith has committed to South Bend Indiana. He says "playing time" was the deciding factor. Well I guess only time will tell. It will be tough breaking in as a safety and being successful next year. I think he was as close to a #1 finish at KCHS as he ever will be. A red shirt year would only make him more successful at the college level. In 2 to 3 years he would have been a homestate hero at UT when he became more seasoned to the speed of the D1 defenses. It is obvious the talent level is up in Tennessee High School football and Harrison stat wise was only in the top 10 either defense or offence. So perception, a very very friendly local press/media and the Nike camp in athens were the attention getters. Only then did the Irish put him high on the board. (USA today). Lets all catalog these prophesies and look at them again this time next year. Watch the LSU and Irish game next week------look at talent difference LSU has at every position except quarterback and that is a draw. GO SEC !!!!
  11. Absolutely an obivious "homer" all state team. I guess anyone can start an all state voting. I agree you can see if you look at each class the 2 picks show up for a lot of teams. Some of these players were barely all region. But like 926 said you have to join the fraternity to vote. AP use to do the best job with this the week of the championship games at a roundtable voting after players were nominated. This one is has little quality.
  12. I agree on Maryville's ability to avoid 5A . They were saved by the new schools in Williamson County last time (4a schools playing up). Why should they want to switch--they own 4A. They have avoided playing up for years though they have 1380 students. Looking at the numbers on Fulton---they would still be 3a if it was based on this years numbers (978). I think they would like to go to 4a in football because of the area teams they would play would keep them from traveling to Chattanooga to get enough games to finish their schedule and better attendance with Halls, Central, Powell.
  13. All that is required in football is to win the game 1 point. I would hope that PC and DL were the best of the West. They both represented their regions well. I think PC had a chance to beat anybody on a given night. I really think they were better than DL. on offence. I do think Fulton playing on the road against a hot team (several wins in a row)had to turn up the burners to beat them, but they were pulling away at the end and could have tacked another on Pearl Cohn but chose not to. Pearl Cohn players were really dragging at the end. (they took a knee against Carter and AE also inside the 1) Some of the penalties on both sides were questionable. I think Fulton had a group of players that had beaten the top 2A team, the next two best 3A teams from the East and came back to beat Catholic the week before under adverse conditions. The real difference was the line play to allow Rogan to gain over 200 + yards. They looked at the tapes against both Nashville teams and knew all they had to do was play their game 4 quarters to win. They probably will not have the chemistry next year they had for 5 years in a row in 07 but the coaching staff is good enough to coach them back to the play offs. We all have 9 months to predict the games and reflect on the past for next year. Merry Christmas
  14. Smith said the main reason that he was going to ND was because of early playing time. Very interesting that ND would use a frosh safety. A tough position for a young player. Tn is in good shape at that position.
  15. Big Country I think this is it for the Big Irish. Both kids they got were at Catholic schools. Excellent players and that is where they should go. The Irish have gone downhill since they stopped getting the best Catholic Kids nationwide. I think Donald is leaning heavily to Tenn. but will not announce until Jan. 9th. Naturally until Feb. it is a moot point anyway. Maybe the Sugar Bowl will tilt the deal. Can the Irish pull one out?
  16. yes game 5. I do not know if Carter was replaced. I know Carter, Alcoa, and Boyd Buchanon have all dropped Fulton. So they replaced them with MORR East, Oak Ridge, and another game.
  17. I like the matchup with Fulton and East for the 5th game of the season. It will be in Morritown I think.
  18. I agree on wishing Smith Happy Trails! As to Catholic they are desperatly trying to go back to D2. They just turned the paperwork in too late this past round. They are destined for 4A if they do not in 2 years. I think it would better serve Catholic program and their players of the future to stay in this region of play. They got on the map by playing the better 3A schools. The best 2 games I have seen in 05 and 06: Fulton vs. KC in the play offs.
  19. Fulton actually wanted to get a good opponent --after Alcoa would not renew their contract. Rankin wanted to beat up on White House at Alcoa next year. This also is a guaranteed good gate. I think OR should win next year but who knows first game of the year. Glad to see Buck is continuing to schedule teams that are top notch from Chatt. to Morristown. He has often said "The championships are won by playing teams that are top notch---not automatic W's." Oak Ridge will be back next year. Fulton is probably game 9 or 10 next year before they peak.
  20. 7 wins with this schedule. Dissappointed they would not renew Fulton.(3a) I guess they felt they had to play Red Bank. (5a) I heard the coach say after the game with Fulton. It has been nice playing you----I figured that meant no renewal the next 2 years. Great program with some quality athletes through the years. I think the main thing is to keep a tough schedule in order to get ready for the Play offs. I think Tyner renewed with Fulton for 2 years. Good luck to BB.
  21. If Smith wants to go to Chicago (South Bend) Let him go. Tennessee has already written him off. Plenty of excellent players on the board they can get and they only have 3 or 4 offers left. Get someone who wants to wear the orange. We know the Irish team he played for could not win the big win the last 2 years. So maybe the big Irish family can.
  22. I will be sure and take in the WH vs. Alcoa game if it is in this side of the state. Sounds strong from what I am hearing. I was disapointed to hear Alcoa would not renew the contract with Fulton next year. Fulton had to replace them with Oak Ridge. Maybe that is the slot where White House is going to be plugged in. It was a great gate for both teams. They play in basketball (aa) and I always take those games in for sure.
  23. Well said road to three about Fulton's coach. Fulton should be down a little next year in the first of the season but they will still be competitive. Coatney will play anyone. He is playing Oak Ridge (5a) first game next year. Morristown East (5a) and Chatt Tyner(2a). Plus the same tough region schedule. 5a's do not even want to play in Knox. Alcoa would not reschedule---Carter wanted out (wonder why)--No one in Knoxville with an available schedule will give them a 2 game contract. Most coaches like the 2 above want to pad their wins and look good. A good coach like Coatney will lose a few but will be tougher for it. A 3a vote for Coatney. Nothing wrong with the others listed. We all have favorites.
