  1. I must have a crystal ball. Of course, the Falcons were missing a few folks who had other obligations, including Josh Gregory, their No. 1 running back. Even with their full contingent, they aren't going to be very good.
  2. Don't look for much from the Falcons this season, especially early. They lost too many players.
  3. Are you serious? Sure there are other sports where someone could have a much greater impact. In this case, this was just one race of the season and only a few points at stake, which is not much at this time of the season. It didn't affect anyone else. Now, a QB could throw a Super Bowl game, or a picher could influence a world series baseball game, a basketball player could goof off in a playoff game, etc, etc. What Jr. did was NOTHING compared to some of those examples.
  4. Lincoln County is probably overrated in that poll.
  5. They will be NOTHING like last year. They may go 5-5.
  6. As I have stated before, I think this case is about poor judgement...not by Gallatin, but by the TSSAA. I agree with what someone else said in an earlier post on this thread...a monkey can enforce rules with no use of common sense. Consider this, if the TSSAA had looked at this case a little differently since they had already ruled the boy eligible, and if they had simply said don't let him play any more until this is cleared up, would they have been sued by anyone? How much would that decision have cost the TSSAA...and member schools? Also, IMHO, all the private schools should be in a league of their own, where they can make up their own rules...or have none. That's what being PRIVATE is all about, and it's asking a bit much to want the best of both worlds...."Let's be private where it benefits us, but let's be public where that benefits us, too." I've checked into classifications in a number of other states. Private schools being in a league of their own is not at all uncommon. For the record, two of my kids went to public schools and two went to private schools, and ALL of my kids are successful. Thus, I am trying to look at the whole issue objectively.
  7. Well, suppose we stone him to death? Criticizing that punishment is fine. Care to offer a better one?
  8. I have to agree with the general sentiment. I like Junior fine. He my son's favorite, but I think my son is guilty of what most fans are....when Dale, Sr. was killed, everyone automatically swithched their loyalty to Dale's son. Junior had done little to win such a fan base. On another note, how is Junior Dale, Jr. Isn't Kerry older? Kerry looks MUCH more like Dale, Sr. than Junior does. I thought the title of junior went to the first born son. I'm all mixed up.
  9. Thanks for the update. I have always felt that Gallatin got shafted. Can Gallatin recoup any portion of lost revenues they WOULD have gotten had they not been banned from the playoffs?
  10. Get me a couple of tickets and I'll be there.
  11. Anybody have some Bristol tickets they'd like to swap for Talladega tickets. Talladega tickets are in the Tri-Oval Tower....center of Pit Road....like 50 yd line.
  12. I like what he said about it when asked wasn't there something better he could have done. He said probably so, but that was the best thing he could think of at the time.
  13. A "Tennis"guy says "tee it up" on a "BASKETBALL" thread. Go figure. LOL
  14. Schs1, I am proud of you, but how many of you were there? If you were at the games, especially the state tournament games, you KNOW that the Shelbyville student section was one of the smallest there. I hate it for those like you and for your team. Y'al deserve more support than you had. For some reason, I don't buy the idea that it's all about a strict administration. I don't really know what it is, but apathy is on my mind. If the students really cared about their team and wanted to cheer them on, they'd be at the games in spite of the administration. Besides, I've met your administrators and they seem like nice enough folks. Bottom line, I love high school sports and I love to see stands packed with students cheering their fellow students on to do the best they can. Seems like some places have it, and others don't. Maybe it's a cycle.
  15. MtJBears, I have to agree with you, as I had a similar experience with seating. When I purchased my first ticket, I asked about reserved seating. I was told that ALL TICKETS were general admission. Then, just as you did, I saw people being asked to move from where they were sitting because they were in reserved seats. I got up and moved before a confrontation ensued, but something is wrong with that picture.
  16. This issue of student support has been addressed on another thread or two in the last few days. It would have been interesting to see what difference it would have made on Shelbyville's student participation if this had begun sooner. Hopefully, the message will spread there.....and to other student bodies where apathy seems to have taken hold.
  17. Point by point.... 1. Not a thing wrong with having rules and being classy. You can still attend the games and cheer your heads off for your team. Show your support for your team. 2. Go and cheer for your team. You won't get a reputation for distasteful behavior...unless you exhibit distasteful behavior. Nobody appreciates being rude. 3. Nothing wrong with asking someone who is being a complete jerk to leave. 4. It DOES look like you don't have the school spirit others have when you don't show up at the games. Again, your reputation won't suffer one bit for going and cheering like crazy for your team. Quite the contrary...that is admirable. 5. the reason people dread playing Shelbyville is NOT because of the fans...espcially the student cheering section. go team!
  18. Where was Abi living when she played at Grundy County? And why did she leave Grundy? There is more there than meets the eye.
  19. I was told that Lincoln County head coach gets about $2500.00, not a percentage of salary.
  20. Could increase attention to security be an issue this year? That still doesn't justify rudness, but what sees as rudness may not be intended that way at all. I'm sure crowd control is a major issue at such sporting events. At an event like that, those staff members are not as emotionally involved as the winners might be, thus, they may not "feel your pain" or your joy, whichever the case may be. Those staff members are probably just doing their job as best they can. What do you suppose they get paid for being a staff member? It's probably not much, and generally, you get what you pay for. Some of them probably do feel their importance a little more than they should. But again, that doesn't justify rudness. Big IF, but IF something had gone wrong, the loudest cries in the state would be, "Where was security?" I imagine if we all had to work security at an event like that, we'd have a different perspective, but probably wouldn't be rude.
  21. eaglesin08, students involved in other things MAY be a contributing factor, but surely they are not involved in other things every night of the tournament. And other schools have students involved in other sports also, but when you have a team compteting for a state championship, it would seem that other students would turn out. It's not like the distance is too great to travel. On the occasions that I have been at a game in Shelbyville, I've noticed that students do not pack the gym like they once did. Smaller schools seem to turn out in much greater numbers proportionately than do the bigger schools, especially at the state tournament. Could it be that in smaller communities, it's the "only show in town?" Please don't take me wrong. I am not knocking Shelbyville....quite the contrary. I love high school sports and I am puzzled when students (not only at Shelbyville) don't turn out to support their teams....especially winning teams. In a time when it seems like everyone wants to back a winner, that does not seem to be the case in Shelbyville. You mentioned Coach Insell's not allowing his girls to play other sports. Could it be that the girls on the basketball team are isolated from the other students? Do y'all have pep rallies? With Coach Insell being the obvious motivator that he is, it would seem that he could give a pep talk at a pep rally and pack any gym. Whatever it is, I hope y'all get it worked out. The TSSAA could use more money at the gate...just kidding.
  22. Shelbyville fans might as well give up this argument over recruiting. This quote pretty much sums it up: “Prejudices are rarely overcome by argument; not being founded in reason they cannot be destroyed by logic.” Tyron Edwards Other folks are prejudiced against the Eaglettes. They WANT to believe that recruiting is going on, and you're not going to convince them otherwise. Keep this in mind: “Weakness on both sides is the trait of all quarrels.” Voltaire Now, back to the original question of student support. It is simply not there to anywhere near the degree it is for many other smaller schools that have to come from farther away. Shelbyville students should fill up their section, but they don't. Adult fan support is great. Student support is another thing.
  23. AND, Insell plays tougher competition. It's all relative. That's not taking ANYTHING away from Coach Rogers. He is an excellent coach and would be successful in any classification. This is such a subjective thread, as so many are, there is really no way of proving which coach is the best. Both of these coaches are proven winners. Congrats to both.
  24. That's a pretty serious accusation and borders on slander....actual, libel since you put it in writing. Although you didn't mention the ref's name, all anyone would have to do is go back and see who called the T. You even began by saying "Rumor"....and then repeated it. You know it's wrong to repeat rumors with no substantiation, especially one that is so personally damaging. If you don't know it's wrong, someone left out an important lesson as they were rearing you. Seems like I remember a saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Maybe it's not too late to teach an "ole timer" a new trick...and something about manners.
