  1. Thank you Truthhurts, the costs of the boards usually is not a problem if you have a relationship with a local Coke or Pepsi bottler. Budweiser and Miller are not recommended. In exchange for a small bit of advertising on the board you can get them at no charge. Sometimes they will install them. This does not change the fact that you will still need two "consistant" persons to operate it. Not students or parents of players as they are easily distracted.
  2. Good discussion, however, on a practical level here are some problems.(can you say $) 1. Two new scoreboards in every gym. 2. New time board to run new scoreboards. 3. New wiring to all new scoreboards and time board. 4. Two people to operate the clock and scoreboard. One person cannot keep up with regular game clock, score, fouls, possession arrow and then throw this in as well. I know how difficult it is to get one person to run the clock for games. Two people will be really tough.
  3. Pujo and RHSfan, I know I've been ingnoring you both all week-end(and I have the ignorance to do that), but been out of town over the week-end. Gotta work the clock for CPA the next 4 days (regionals-4 games a nite). So when everything settles down, we take up where we left off. I've enjoyed the civil discourse and look forward to continuing.
  4. RHSfan, no I don't understand what you mean by "working the system", and I still did not find in your other post where you said how the 1A publics where going to get better. You said they were, but not the details.
  5. VG, thanks for helping explain my frustration some better! I had to get on my soap box tonight and get it off my chest about 1A privates being the only problem. You are correct, it is going to get interesting. VG, RHS and Pujo, thanks for the discourse, it was excellent, I appreciate those gold stars next to your names, stay well and good night.
  6. Pujo, do you think it runs in cycles? I wish I knew why privates have dominated so in the last couple of years. I know we have better resources: parent involvement, dollars, facilities. All of those things don't give you a great/winning team.(they are advantages, don't take me wrong) There are too many examples of teams, high school, college and professional who have these types of advantages and more, but no heart, desire. South Pitt, you folks up on the mountain, Trousdale, Collinwood/Wayne Co and Gordonsville have been consistantly excellent Public 1A. A couple of gold balls at some of those locations, too. I don't know why it's changed recently.
  7. Sorry, what are they going to do to get better? You said to VG, "I think some of the private schools figured out how to work the system, within the existing rules. I don't blame them, I would hope that our coach would do the same, BUT, that does not make it right." help me understand what you are saying here. Privates work the system, that's ok, you want your coach to do it too, but it's not right. What are you implying?
  8. VG, I have always agreed with Pujo that privates do have a number of advantages over Publics in 1A. I'm not against the split, as I said my team will welcome the new challanges. I'm just tired of hearing that the only problem with the publics is the privates. Once they are gone, everything will be fine. Guys, the rules where the same in the 90's and well as now. I don't know why the change in championships. I just, on occasion would like to hear (read) other ideas on how 1A publics are going to get better. VG, USJ has not been the only team to get slobberknockered by Trousdale. That is a pretty big club. (love the word slobberknockered, thank you Coach Majors)
  9. Ok, but who dealt the hand, the privates or TSSAA. I've had the impression over the years that the privates dealt it. I'm tired of hearing that. Let's hear what the publics are going to do to get better, not what are the publics going to do to the privates to get better. That's my beef. RHSfan, I appreciate your points, and Pujo's was well. What is so frustrating is to hear only about the problem with 1A publics is the privates. I want to hear what the 1A publics are going to do to get better, with out mentioning that other P word.
  10. What was the response from USJ? What was the response from Boyd Buchanan? Ezell's "response" was creditable and legit? Yes, we will take our cards and play what's dealt. We look forward to the challenges that presents.
  11. Who dealt us the stacked hand? Do you honestly think that life is even or fair? Do you honestly think that after the split that there will not be one post on this board from a public 1A school complaining about some other 1A public school having some percieved advantage. In life you play the hand your dealt. What you do with that hand is up to you. You can complain or whine that it's not fair, my hand is not as good as yours. Or you can take all that effort and put it towards making your hand better, not in making your opponents hand weaker.
  12. First of all, we did not ask for this. We play the cards that TSSAA dealt us. Second we welcome all competition, public or private. We have won some and we've lost some. What you don't hear from privates when we get beat, is that it couldn't have been our fault. The other guy (public or private) had some type of advantage. I'm tired of all this whining about everybody else has some percieved advantage and therefore our team just can't compete. After all these discussions I just have one question. When the split takes place and the privates are gone from 1A, what will be the excuse when your 1A public team gets beat. Who will you hold up as a example of what it takes to be the best in 1A public. Will you feel justified if this school, that everyone agrees is the best, beats your team. Will you feel proud of your effort or still complain that your team could not have possibly been beaten, something must be wrong with the other guy. They are the problem. You school have the best team, the best 40 times, the strongest lifters, the best runners, the best hitters, how could someone else beat us if we know we are the best. I think I know what will happen. Pogo said, we have met the enemy, and he is us.
  13. BushLeague, so which is it, fact or gossip?
  14. Ok, I understand. Here is my take. I believe there are 2-3 private schools in Jackson. There are over 15 in Metro Nashville alone. I don't think that schools in South Metro Nashville/North Brentwood, FRA, BA, MBA, Ezell, Lighthouse, CPA, Harding Academy, BGA, Father Ryan, Nashville Christian and David Lipscomb pull anyone from the North or East side of town. Tough to drive over an hour to get there during rush hour in the AM and PM. So I think it is tough to say that privates in Nashville have the whole city to pull from. Having been involved with CPA for the past 15 years it appears that most of the families and students live within about a ten mile radius. Inside that radius is BA, FRA, Father Ryan, BGA, Lighthouse, David Lipscomb and Nashville Christian. As VG stated, I don't think there are as many students to chose from as you might think.
  15. imasoftballer, I'm curious about your statement that privates in Jackson are not near as bad as the privates in Nashville. Clarify where you going with this.
  16. This is a typical response from a man who "loves to hate" Bob on Veggytales. Barney rocks!! (robjim, who has been trying for many years to find a big enough purple suit for Bighurt to wear in the pressbox.)

Excellent, keep up the good work. Wonder if the Payton Manning scholarship is available? Past winners should be leaving soon?
  18. As Coacht said in the previous thread, join Coacht Plus and you will recieve a "bunch" of good marks as a welcome present. 400 by 3/31/03!!
  19. Ok, one more good mark from the CPA contingent. Thanks again for signing up!! 400 by 03/31/03!!
  20. boneal52, I sent mine in the mail and two days later Coacht signed me up. If you email him that you sent it he will probably sign you up then.
  21. Ok, one from me, thanks for joining. Bighurt? OnlineLC? TSF? Let's go boys!

  23. The poster started a number of threads, all of which were inflamatory and did not fit on the board. He has not been back, so I suspect that the recess bell sounded and he is back in class. Or Coacht has banned him.
  24. MTSU stadium the first week in December,is the toughest place for any 1A-5A school to win. Win there and it don't matter where else you've played.
