  1. I hope Alcoa doesn't get overconfident going into this game. Last year Heritage was the more physical team that saw the game turn on Brandon Warren's return of a fumble for a touchdown (98 yards as I recall). Alcoa needs to get on them quick to keep the momentum away from the Mountaineers.
  2. I have a thought on the subject of 'lack of heart' at WB. Over the years WB and Heritage have both had talented kids walking their hallways. However, neither program has been able to consistently field a winner. I'm not talking state champions, only 7 or 8 win teams that can get a couple of rounds into the playoffs. Both schools draw their students from smaller communities that the kids grow up in. When these smaller communities are thrown together in high school they never really gel as a team the way you need to if you want to have a consistent program. That, coupled with the lack of a coach that is willing to stay around long enough to build that type of cohesiveness, contributes to teams that are inconsistent. Personally, I wish we could go back in time and preserve the smaller schools that were consolidated in the late 70's. Like I said, just a thought and I'm sure many of you will disagree.
  3. I was on the Sweetwater sideline and asked Dustin about his injury. He said he thought he had pulled a hamstring. I don't think it will keep him out of any future games.
  4. kb3 - I talked to Dustin on the sideline. He said he thought he had pulled a hamstring or something. I don't think his injury will keep him out of next weeks game. I'm not sure if he didn't play much in the second half because of the injury or the coach decided he didn't need to be playing in those conditions in a game SW had no chance of winning. Hey Govman, Ask Clint to take you to Scruggs for some ribs Alcoa style!
  5. Careful GovMan, I'll start telling stories on you! All the Love guys were great fun to hang with. That family contributes to make great contributions to the Alcoa program. In my opinion, Logan is overlooked as everyone wants to talk about the 'Big 3'. Not to take anything away from those guys but Logan also contributed some big plays since starting as a freshman. A big thank you to Dale and Mabel Love for being such a big part of the Alcoa family.
  6. I was at Greenback tonight for a JV game and asked the lady taking money about Coach Satterfield. She told me he was scheduled for an MRI tomorrow to determine if he had a stroke. Prayers needed for this man than has given so much of himself to Greenback football. This one is offered up from Alcoa. Greenback also had a young man injured during the game. He was placed on a backboard and transferred to the hospital for a closer look. He was moving his arms and legs but they were concerned about his neck. The trainer said it was more of a precautionary measure but better to be safe than sorry.
  7. Thought of a lot of things I shouldn't say here. If my child ever shows such a lack of respect for any individual, young or old, I would hope my friends would tell me. It would not be pretty.
  8. There is alot of tradition in this game. I recall in the late 70's the winner of the Alcoa - Sweetwater game typically won the district and advanced into the playoffs. As someone who has followed Alcoa football for close to 30 years I always look forward to this game. I'm glad it is at Goddard Field after 3 weeks on the road. Alcoa has shown that they are a good football team but needs to improve on the penalties. I'm sure Coach Reid and his staff will see that improvement is made. I think Alcoa will need to get the running game going and put together some long drives to keep the ball away from Latham and the Sweetwater offense. I know football isn't a one player game but Latham is obviously key to Sweetwater. Sweetwater won a close one against South Pittsburg but lost to Rockwood on the road. After a big win against Tellico I would expect Sweetwater will come to Alcoa with something to prove. A win at Alcoa could put them back in the mix for the Region crown.
  9. My bad, I will ignore all the remaining South Pittsburg threads so that I will not offend anyone.
  10. I have to agree with FBE. Murfreesboro is way down the road. There is alot of football to be played and I hope Alcoa doesn't overlook anybody. Did anybody else notice that WB took the sideline away from the stands? Whenever I saw them down there last year I don't think that was the case. Has Meadows done this all year or is this in response to the incident last week? I don't know that it had any impact on the game and I did enjoy being able to sit behind the Tornadoes. Just curious.
  11. I find it ironic that someone that refuses to use punctuation would get onto someone else because they are not, 'commenting intelligently'.
  12. No cramps. Coach Reid took advantage of some of the depth they are developing and was able to give everyone on the defense a break from time to time during the game. Most notably Warren and Lindsey.
  13. Alcoa wins an ugly one at William Blount. Alcoa played well in a game marred by a total of 35 penalties (I got this stat from an Alcoa Middle School coach). WB penalized numerous times, more than ten, for illegal procedure. Alcoa held WB's Wing T in check with the exception of one penalty aided drive in which WB scored on a dive play when Brad Walker (I think) took it into the end zone. Both teams have a lot to work on in the penalty department but a win is a win. Next up for Alcoa is a region contest with the Sweetwater Wildcats at Goddard Field.
  14. Maybe this is like political polls, +/- 5 points, or 50 points in this case. I'm sure it was some interesting reading when Roane County is starving for football in August.

    Alcoa Vs. WB

I am picking Alcoa for two reasons. One, I think Alcoa's passing game will present problems for WB. Two, WB's running game against Alcoa's defense will be a very good matchup. I am cautiously optimistic but it always difficult for a 2A school to beat a 5A school. All I know is I will be there with my Tornadoe stuff on. Pulling for the football team and the band. My only regret is there are no 'visitor' stands at WB. It makes it hard to keep up with what is happening on the Alcoa sideline.
  16. Parents in the locker room at halftime? How ridiculous would that be? I'll believe that when I hear it straight from GovMan. I have heard rumblings in the past about boosters trying to interfere but I have not heard anything specific. They must be keeping it in the family. Alcoa by 20? I think this is going to be a much closer game. I don't know about WB's defense but I do know that in the past Meadows has run that Wing T to perfection without dominating line play. He came out of the box 15-0 at Alcoa in 2000 and we all know Alcoa hasn't been known for their lines. I'm not trying to build Meadows up but the guy has done wonders with the offense everywhere he has been. Also, in last years game I recall WB defeated the Tornadoes pretty handily with Ronnie Phelps at the helm.
  17. This game has many emotional undertones. Coach Meadows, Bart Hicks, and Ronald Osbourne of WB were previously at Alcoa. Coach Reid was previously at WB. I look for both teams to be at emotional highs for the game. I wish the best of luck to both and may the best team win. I look for this to be a good opportunity for WB to get things turned around. Alcoa is a good 2A school but will be put to a strong test by the Governors. Both teams have outstanding skill position players but have not exhibited dominating line play. Is this the emotional game that Meadows needs to get his team turned around? Thoughts GovMan?
  18. Alcoa Middle is also 4-0 and soundly defeated Robertsville. Probably the best team they have played to this point. Robertsville has a couple of really good looking athletes. I'm not sure when Alcoa plays Maryville but I want to be there. Looking forward to another Alcoa-Maryville showdown. Try to get out and catch this one RebelRon.
  19. It's always good to go to OS and come out with a win. How young is OS? I know they lost a ton of seniors last year. And certainly, Good Luck to OS for the remainder of the year!
  20. Leaving a fairly successful program at Eagleton to revive the program at Rockford says a lot about this man. It wasn't about wins. It was about the kids. May God bless.
  21. My summary of the game from my point of view. Just my opinion. Alcoa didn't start well but did have enough guts to stick it out and play for four quarters. There were some negatives, turnovers, secondary busts, missed tackles, some of the normal things you see early in the season. Positives, didn't quit, showed alot of heart by continuing to try to execute the game plan, played hard til the whistle blew and left the jawing and trash talk up to the know-it-all posters on CoachT. In the past even I, a former Alcoa player, have been embarrassed by the actions of some of the Alcoa players in previous years. It appears Coach Reid and his staff are working hard at stopping the type of selfish behavior that was so prevalent during the tenures of some of the previous coaches. If it wasn't obvious to the Maryville side, Alcoa played alot of younger kids that are beginning to step up and contribute to the depth of the squad. I think that will continue to be more evident as the hard work in the weight room starts to pay off. In response to NoOneParticular, we all know that Alcoa has a big hill to climb in trying to beat the Rebels. Not many 4A schools can do it so it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that it will be difficult for a 2A school. We do generally take our loss and say 'Wait till next year'. It is fairly common to do so. I'm sure that is what Maryville said after last years loss to MoWest. The fact is, we love the rivalry and look forward to the 'opportunity' to be one of the few teams that does beat Maryville. It has been that way for a long time and I hope it continues from now til Jesus comes back. Good luck to both teams as the season continues. Lets play the games one at a time and talk about trips to Murfreesboro if the season plays out as we all hope it will.
  22. The offense has some speedy backs in Walker and Osborne but I think they had to replace their quarterback. Give Meadows some time and I expect they will be lighting up the scoreboard. However, from what I saw in the jamboree WB was a little soft on defense. They may be able to outscore some people but I don't know how far that will take them in the playoffs.
  23. No response from Oliver Springs? You guys wore us out last year before the playoff game. One observation from looking at Alcoa's program. Everyone refers to this as a veteran team but the breakdown by classes doesn't back that up. Seniors - 4 Juniors - 9 Sophomores - 32 Freshman - 18
