  1. Hands down the best field that I have seen is Knox Central's. It looks great. The grass is like carpet, and the coaches have done a great job taking care of it. It is painted better than a lot of college fields I have seen. They have their name in the endzones, a logo in the middle of the field, and a border that runs all the way around the field.
  2. Maryville may not be the best team in 4A, but as others have said, "IF YOU WANT TO BE THE MAN, YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE MAN." Maryville is the 3 time defending state champion and have a 35 game winning streak. So until someone knocks them off, they deserve to be #1. You don't see USA Today ranking someone in front of De LaSalle do you? Of course not. They have a 150 game winning streak and haven't lost since 1991. Until they lose, they are #1. The same should go for Maryville.
  3. Union County continues to roll this week, winning over winless Harriman 28-6
  4. Well, this has been an interesting week so far with all of the hype going on. Maryville losing starters to fighting amongst each other. I talked to a friend last night whose son plays for Central, and he told me that their team has been hit hard by the flu. But it really doesn't matter if you ask me. Both teams will show up and it will be one heck of a game. Still iffy on my prediction, but I am leaning toward an upset.
  5. Powell over Clinton by alot West over Halls by 10 Carter over Pigeon Forge If they have not given up I still can't call the Maryville/Central game. Even with the rumor of losing Rouse and Tefler. It will be a hard fought game.
  6. Yes, they beat Presbyterian College. I believe it was 24-21. They had 8 turnovers. There was an article in Monday's paper.
  7. From what I have heard from a pretty good inside source at the sentinel, the big wigs at the paper want it to be a more regional paper. Simply put, they want to sell more papers in the tri-cities, greeneville, Jeff Co, Loudon Co, and all of the other counties that they are now trying to cover with the prepxtra section. And really if you think about it, there really isn't a KFL anymore. With the 5A classification system, teams are having to travel all over the east to play games, and we don't see as many in town rivalries anymore, unless they are in the same region. I just wonder if the coaches from the KFL will get together and try to select a team.
  8. A couple of weeks ago, Anthony McAlister, the middle linebacker for Austin East, hit a wide receiver from Gibbs who was heading inside for some extra yardage. I promise you, he won't want to do it again.
  9. TruRebelPlaya, As far as I have been told, this game is the southeast region game of the week Someone told me that it will be shown all over tennessee, georgia, alabama, and north carolina.
  10. eastTNfootball, I have to agree with you.... but South-Doyle is a pretty bad football team. Even they lost to Karns. I say Jeff Co wins this one by 35.
  11. I would probably have to go with Helton, just because of who he is. Most people who vote for the award will take that into consideration as well. But there are some other sophomores who are really deserving. I can't think of the kid's name right off the top of my head but he is a running back for Powell, I am pretty sure that he wears #2. The game that I saw him play against Halls, he looked pretty impressive.
  12. We can go on and on about asking other teams who is tougher, Halls, West, Carter, WB, AE, DB, Mo West, they have all seen both Maryville and Central this year in action either in games or scrimmages. But the truth remains that neither team has played any other team like they will play each other this friday. Everybody gets up to play Maryville just like everybody gets up to play Central. So it makes sense that the two really get up to play each other. It will be a good one.
  13. It is good to hear that he is getting better. I hope at least he can be back on the sidelines this year to support his team.
  14. Is this a joke? AE could only play a half and win this one.
  15. that has to be my pick. I don't remember how many overtimes it was either, but it ended 42-41 when Central got an extra point blocked.
  16. daisymae, I agree with you. Neither team can afford to make too many mistakes in this one. I think that will be the deciding factor in the outcome. The one with the fewest mistakes wins.
  17. .....and they probably won't beat carter
  18. My fault reddevil, I forgot that one of your mighty 4 wins came against a winless Powell team early in the season. Mark my words, unless West has just given up on the year, which I hope they haven't, Halls will not beat them.
  19. All of this talk gets me fired up for friday. I can't wait until 7:30 this friday night to see what might be one of the best football games to be played in the state this year. It should be a great matchup. I guess we will see this friday. Only 4 days left.
  20. Union County is on a two game winning streak. Harriman is having a down year. They are 0-8 and have only scored 19 points on the year. I think that UC extends their winning streak to 3.
  21. This will prove to be an equalizing factor. Central's starters really haven't had to play a full game other than the McCallie game that they lost. And as far as that game goes... Central was playing a completely different defense then. They have made some major personnel adjustments since then that have made a big difference. As far as either team beating the other twice, that is a difficult task. Unless the first game is just a blow out by one of the teams, there is a good chance that the other team may win the second meeting. I have heard alot about the Maryville D, and to tell you the truth, I was not impressed last thursday. West did some things to hurt them. West obviously had better athletes at the skill positions, and everyone knows how much better Central's skill players are than West's. As for a prediction, it is too close to call. I think both teams have high powered offenses, and weaker than normal defenses. The difference may come down to the special teams and penalties. To be honest, I don't know how good either team's special teams are. What I do know is that Maryville has the upper hand in the penalty category. Central seems to make a lot of mental mistakes resulting in penalties. And we all know how good the discipline of Maryville is. Again I don't know if I can make a prediction. And as someone said earlier, this one doesn't matter that much anyway, you know that if everything goes as it should, these two should meet again.
  22. If it does end up being a rematch, the result will be the same. I think AE wins it all this year. Back to the matter at hand, Scott Co. will get handed their third in a row. Sorry guys, hope you can still make the playoffs.
  23. I normally wouldn't give Campbell County a chance in this one, and wouldn't knowing that DB lost last week. (thinking that it would serve as a wake-up call) But, knowing that Williams, Gaines, and Throp are not playing makes me wonder about the outcome. Regardless, I think that DB learned a good lesson last friday, and will play like they can this week and beat Campbell County.
  24. You were in the game with Maryville 28-7. And how about Central 28-0?
  25. 1. Knox Central 2. Maryville (This argument will be settled this friday) 3. Austin East (Lost to both #1 and #2 in scrimmages) 4. Oak Ridge 5. Fulton (Lucky to be on the list Craig L. Couldn't beat Central in a closet)
