  1. well man , as a coach , i understand that there going to be armchair qb's all over the place . i just hope that in your criticisms , you keep in mind that coaching ( especially in a small town ) is a tough job . and the only thing i can say is its alot harder than it looks. if it were easy , everybody would do it . but i hope clinton gets a coach and the fans get behind him and yall can start winning again.
  2. GILLYBOAT , why dont you apply for the job ????
  3. thanks for the website rollredroll .
  4. im sure this is on the private site but what is the name of the school rickey bowers of mba left for ? and any info about it . where is it , when do they start football , can the be good anytime soon , etc ??????? just curious
  5. rankin coached at warren county in the 80's . the 2 riverdale coaches on staff from warren county are steve britton and matt snow .
  6. my old boss used to say " each year in 5A , about 8-10 teams have a real shot at the whole thing" . im curious who you guys think are the contenders and pretenders each year in any class . if you look at the past champions , you will find that teams that win state titles usually stay in the hunt each year . now i will give you the occasional run of athletes and the once in a lifetime teams , but i want to hear about consistency . me and another coach studied the largest classification in georgia and found that about 17 teams have won state championships over the last 35 years ( repeats included ). and out of those 17 , they came from 4 of the 8 regions in georgia . i would bet that tennessee is close to that . ill start us . in 5A , you have to start with murfreesboro , riverdale and oakland . in east tennessee , oak ridge and dobbins bennett , west youve got germantown . in middle tennessee lincoln county and gallatin . talk about repeats . teams that are there year after year . you can say brentwood , and crawford does a heck of a job , but 1 title is not a dynasty . your thoughts ...................................

    Open zones in 1a

eagleville in rutherford county has an open zone enrollment . any kid in rutherford county who can provide his own transportation can attend eagleville . a good buddy of mine is the head coach there . this has to be one of the more attractive head jobs in TN 1 A . open zone in talent rich rutherford county and rutherford county pay as well .
  8. okay guys , debate whose the best but dont bring up the "national championship" stuff . the usa today national championship is comedy . those teams never play each other and for the most part , nobody from usa today ever sees them play . its done on name recognition 1st , wins second . for example , valdosta has won 3 usa todaytitles and never played delasalle or evangel or whoever . its high school football . state champions only . the usa today stuff is exactly what it says , MYTHICAL .
  9. the dacula/duluth situation was this . 3rd and 27 , personal foul called on defense . the refs gave automatic 1st down and the offensive team scored shortly thereafter . the question was the personal foul , was it a dead ball or live ball personal foul ( atlanta journal constitution words ) anyway , the official ruling from ghsa was the refs mis-applied the rule and upon appeal , they say replay from the time that the rule was mis-applied. they play the game monday night ( nov. 10 )
  10. did riverdale win tonite vs lavergne ???
  11. well guys , lots of good posts . i have just moved to georgia from TN . i spent the last 4 years at riverdale and have seen what a run first philosophy will do . my experience down here is that teams that run the ball win . the 3 time defending state 5A champs down here ( parkview ) runs 2 tight ends most of the time and plays power football . brookwood runs it 95 % of the time and valdosta runs the georgia southern double slot . i guess it boils down to this , run what your kids can do . dont try to force a round peg into a square hole . let your personel dictate what you do on offense . be multiple and mix it up . dont be easy to defend . and i hate the wing t but it is succesful on some levels . and there are 3 things that can happen when you run the ball too , fumble , loss of yards and gain yards . haha
  12. i see this heading towards a marryville pep rally soon
  13. hey , not really a marryville wins comment , but i heard that jimmy clausen and his family have moved to marryville and he is going to enroll at marryville pretty soon . i heard it while i was at home over the weekend . any truth ? jimmy being the youngest of the 3 clausen kids
  14. did my boys from eagleville get their 1st win tonite vs columbia academy ?
  15. i would think that herschel moore had a little bit to do with the wing t in this state .
  16. you know guys , i dont want to ###### any middle school coaches off , but there is a huge difference between friday night and their game . my first year coaching was at a middle school and when i got into H.S. coaching i saw how much i didnt know real quick . you can out athlete and out coach real fast on the middle school level . im not saying it dont happen on the H.S. level as well , but when you get 2 even teams , your coaches better have done their homework and got it screwed on tight if they want to give their kids a chance to win . now if a coach at the middle school level has high school experience , then thats a different story . i am saying this because if the powers that be at clinton hire a middle school coach with no HS experience , then 0 - 5 or 1-4 starts may become the norm .
  17. any names circling around about who will take over in 2004 ? once upon a time , the rumor was that AC defensive coordinator Tony Lambert would be in line at clinton if the time came . just curious .
  18. STEVE BRITTON FROM RIVERDALE . VERY SOLID IN RUN / PASS BLOCKING . YOU WILL NOT FIND ANOTHER O-LINE COACH WHO WILL OUTWORK HIM . DOESN'T ALWAYS HAVE THE D-1 PROSPECTS , BUT GETS THE JOB DONE YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT . IF YOU COACH ON RANKIN'S STAFF , YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF FOR SURE .
  19. speed. its hard to tackle what you cant catch.
  20. i only saw the score. what happened ?
  21. i dont think he was the best hs player ever in the state, but he's al least one of the top 50. you cant look at what he has done since he left riverdale. look at what he did in HIGH SCHOOL . 2 time mr football, part of 2 state 5A state championship teams, only player to ever win offensive and defensive most valuable player awards in the same state championship game. pretty good resume dont ya think.
  22. what is rob speas going to be coaching at oak ridge this season? i dont pretend to now much about oak ridge, but hiring speas is one heck of a move. he's a real good young coach.
  23. i have a question. according to GHSA ( georgia high school ) teams from the state of georgia cannot practice or scrimmage against anybody else. how is north gwinnet getting away with this ? i dont think there is a loophole concerning out of state work .
  24. so what is the story from camp ? how did it go ? nick p , give me a holler.
