  1. Greenfield lost Porter, Robinson, and McCall. I think they may have lost another role player but those were the big losses. To challenge Lake County and beat Bradford they have to find a perimeter threat to replace Robinson and McCall. Galey is more of a 15 foot and in player. I saw Gleason twice, against Lake Co and Obion Co. Both really good teams. They didn't look great but again it was against two really good teams. But I'm not really sure if all of 14A's top three are better than the best from 13A. Dresden has a chance to challenge Gleason for the top spot and don't sleep on Huntingdon. I think that Coach Farris Lowery is going to have them playing very good come tournament time. From what I saw in the summer I will put them on tiers instead of places. 1st Tier- Lake County= clear favorite, head above the rest like I said earlier 2nd Tier- Greenfield, Bradford, Gleason- the battle between GField and BFord will come down to who has role players that step up. Greenfield will have to find someone who can match up athletically with Street and Bradford will have to find someone who can match up on the wing size wise with Galey. Even in Gleason's down years they are still better than most so I figure a 1st place in the district and a region semis apperance should be expected 3rd Tier- Dresden, Huntingdon- These two could very well be up a tier come February but neither has a go to person offensively and are smaller at 4 of 5 positions than the rest.
  2. Randolph was gone to Girls State one week and the week of UTM's camp she hurt her back I believe. If they can find a perimeter threat they will be tough to beat with the way the guard. Bigster, I saw a lot the 13A teams as well and I don't see Lake Co going down the same road as last year. I think they are a head above the next best teams in the region. Gleason and Huntingdon both looked good but this upcoming season will be different as last year you had Bradford, Trenton, and Humboldt all who could sneak up on you but I don't think that will be the case this year. I agree with you about Bradford. Combs is as good of an interior player as I saw all month but after her and Street they don't have much of an threat but will still finish 3rd easily.
  3. I saw the top 5 from last year (Greenfield, Bradford, Lake County, Trenton, Humboldt) multiple times over the last three weeks and here's my take. Greenfield- saw them twice both times without Emily Randolph, same ole Coach Trevathan basketball, they get up and guard very well and force you to run everything from as far away from the rim as possible, runs there sets well and makes you defend lots of screens Lake County- nothing new here either except they shot the ball from the perimeter very well which is something I am not really used to seeing, they are usually an average team form deep but they where making everything they looked at the 3 times I saw them, probably looked the best of the 14A bunch Humboldt- Missing Hubbard for sure, guard play is much weaker than years past, struggles with pressure but are very big in all 5 spots, may just be because its camp but Coach Johnson played a lot (11-13) of kids, good group of young kids though Bradford- Street and Combs are going to have to do a lot of scoring if Bradford is going to challenge for the top 2, not a whole lot offensively after those two, full court and half court defense looked good though Trenton- Hudson is good but not good enough to carry this bunch over the hump, not really a threat like last year to make the top 4 I figure Lake Co, GField, and Bradford are the top 3 with no one really seriously challenging them. Humboldt and Trenton will be down but I didn't see South Fulton, Union City, or Halls so I don't know how they stack up to give an accurate take on the 4 through 8 spots
  4. I'm not selling 1A short. I'm very aware at how hard West Tenn 1A basketball. Regions 7A and 8A have a tough time getting past each other. Peabody (in 2003 I believe) was the last team in single A from West Tenn to go State two years in a row. There are teams that get put out very early that could give teams that make sub state from Regions 1A, 2A, and 3A a lot of trouble. IMHO 2A is consistantly tougher from year to year, top to bottom. Not just the top tier teams like Gibson Co., Westview, but the teams like Haywood, Bolivar, and Liberty who would go to sub state and probably beyond if you put em in different regions. Prime example, Bolivar made it to State in 2009 when they were in Region 6. With with essentially the same team in 2010 in Region 7, they get beat in the region semis. Heck even Memfis 2A has gotten better, 1A not so much.
  5. I will too. I want no part of 2A girls basketball in West Tenn or the whole state for that matter. 1A is hard enough.
  6. Riverside isn't a small Class 1A school. I think we are the 2nd or 3rd largest 1A school. Don't know the exact number but its around 400. From I was told, we were actually only about 25 or so kids from be 2A in the last realignment.
  7. Chatt. Grace beat them 5-0. Plays TCA tommorrow at 10am.
  8. What's the head scratching tough break?
  9. You Gfield guys beat me to it. It's all fine and dandy when you are the one doing the whipping, but the second the roles are reversed, things change. Our good friend purple&goldstandard usually uses this line when some Greenfield fans complain about UC. "Maybe you just need to get better." Congrats to "Hey Willie" and the Jackets. Good luck against Adamsville. I've seen em twice when they played Riverside. Should be a close one as they are solid in all 9 spots.
  10. Hum.... I'll try it again...
  11. sls, check your messages.
  12. Can't speak for everybody but since you named my school I'll let you know how easy life is here. At Riverside we have from athletics from 2:00-2:40 that both basketball teams, baseball and softball are all in our one gym. Basketball teams alternate weeks on who has first practice (2-4) and have to deal with either baseball or softball using the batting cage in the balcony for the first forty minutes. Sounds like a great situation doesn't it? I'm confused by this statement. Are you saying that a school in single 1A has a 2A enrollment but plays in 1A because they aren't located near any 2A teams? Please expanded on that statement. I'd love to know what is "a reasonable amount for single A." A lot of people don't even realize how the TSSAA splits into classfication. You can't say schools with up to 250 are A, 250-500 are AA and 500 and above are AAA because then you would have more/less in a classification. They put all schools in order of enrollment and then split it into thirds so that all three classifications have the same amount. 4 of the 5 (Scotts Hill being the exception) schools you named all were in 2A and dropped down to 1A because of the multiplier rule put on privates gave them 2A enrollment. The TSSAA didn't just put them there. You won't find a bigger defender of 1A schools than me. I went to Greenfield which is the 5th smallest school in the state with football. But I don't think that the TSSAA mistreats 1A. One thing we do agree on is how football runs the show.
  13. Humm.... Looks like we can say score 1 for fundamental basketball.... Jvaughan, I'm very curious.....why did you wait until AFTER the game to comment on Parkrose's bold pre-game comments, which were made at 8:48 pm LAST NIGHT? Because the first time I got on the thread was after the game. Fundamentally sound teams win at Murfreesboro 8 out of 10 times over a team that relies on athleticsm. You don't need D1 college prospects to win.
  14. Humm.... Looks like we can say score 1 for fundamental basketball....
  15. Westview wins 57-47. Lewis County cut to 4 three times in the fourth but Westview answered all three times with a score of thier own. Congrats and good luck to Coach Stephenson and Westview.
  16. I was surprised with CSAS. Thought they were very strong from a region that usually doesn't field teams of that caliber. Thought Wayne County would be better, but they are very young and should be very good next year. Only losing one player correct?
  17. I believe redog is implying that CPA has a 1A enrollment, but is playing in 2A because of the multipier that is put on them.
  18. I'm sure Coach Brown will have a great game plan in place to match Middleton's athleticsm. If they can execute and limit turnovers and second chance points by Middleton they should win but Middleton is extremely quick and has strong inside play with Hoswer. Should be one the best semifinal games of the day.
  19. The seats behind the goals are for the pep sections. I don't think there is necessarily a "written rule" that says you have to move but they like for the pep sections to be there so they are not on the sides where the rest of the fans are that are going to sit and just watch. Hope that explains it a little.
  20. My bad so what your sayin is they were like your team and not even good enough to make it far enough to even play us I gotcha. How's the softball games in Overton County? LA witnessed greatness during that run. We sent you to the dugout just about every year didn't we? You didn't send me or my team anywhere. Not from Gibson County or Overton County. Just a casual West Tenn girls basketball fan who noticed (yet another) ignorant comment by you.
  21. midtenn, I looked at the past champions on the TSSAA website and I am pretty sure that 00,01,02, & 03 would be the 4 years you are talking about where Jackson County was AA and in the state championship game. Gibson County was only up there in 03 and didn't play Jackson County. Ready to catch the punt.....
  22. At worse the blind draw will cost someone a runner up finish. To win the thing you are going to have to beat someone good eventually whether it is in the first round or the finals.
  23. Quarters Gibson Co over CPA South Greene over Polk Co Westview over Lewis Co McMinn over Greenville (toughest one for me to pick) Semis Gibson Co over South Greene (It's deja vu all over again) McMinn over Westview Champ Gibson Co over McMinn
  24. Should be two really good, close games tonight. I've seen all 4 (played against 3 of em) so here's my take. Humboldt is playing really well right now. I would be surprised to see them beat Scotts Hill at home by 11 like GCP is predicting. If I was to predict a Humboldt win, I like Greenfieldfan's number better. Humboldt's Keys to victory- Must shoot it well so they can extend the defense, use thier speed and athleticsm, use thier depth and run, run, run, and then run some more, the faster the pace the better as Scotts Hill isn't deep and is probably without a starter already Scotts Hill's Keys to victory-Control the tempo, take care of the ball, stay out of foul trouble. They are probably the better team and are better coached so if they play thier game they should come out on top. This is one of those that could be a blowout for either team or be one that is won in the last 10 seconds. Middleton's Keys to victory- Needs a great performance out of Howser, needs someone, anyone to be able to make a outside shot, use thier post players, get offensive rebounds for 2nd and 3rd scoring chances. Gleason's Keys to victory- Play thier own tempo, offset Middleton's athleticsm with fundamental play, limit Middleton's offensive rebounds, handle any pressure that Middleton gives them.
  25. I don't think there is a deadline on when regular season district has to end because Scotts Hill and Adamsville (District 15A) got rescheduled to next Monday the 15th. I know there is a deadline on when the tournament has to end but with the weather the TSSAA very well could (key word) wave that as well by a day or so.
