I've been reading some of the posts since I last posted. First, if county kids are coming to MHS and AHS how does one blame the school system? They have the right to accept anyone they want I suppose. But I think the issue goes back to my initial question. Why doesnt the county schools Central Office find those special coaches who can build a program, who can generate excitement in the kids and parents? People can point fingers all day long and say this and that. But the county schools sports programs come down to the Central Office and to what lengths they go to find those special coaches. Again, just wondering if I'm off target?

Is there a list of venues for all HS sports? Would like to see some baseball state games.

I have a question. The schools themselves dont have a lot, def not the final, say in who gets hired to be a coach, right? So why dont parents and supporters ask some hard questions to those folks up at Central Office? Govman and others have worked their rears off to support the county schools programs, but the Central Office hires the folks that ultimately take the reins as coaches. And I do realize budget, salaries, stipends, etc. in the county system are lower, at least I'm guessing, but I think the leadership is the ones ultimately responsible for drawing really good coaches. Am I off target here?

Congratulations to both teams! I dont post a lot, but I would like to hear from the players of both teams. I never got to play in a State Championship Game so I dont know what it is like. Its about the young men and their coaches, so could some of you participants share some "war stories". A favorite play, a memory that you will never forget, some words of a coach you will never forget, etc. Good job to both teams, it was a great game! Thanks for the memories!

This, FBE, is the real question and I think you are spot on? With 1900+ kids at WB and probably close to that many at Heritage, why does anyone have to go both ways? GovMan has addressed this as well as others close to both programs, but year in and year out you see great athletes, as GovMan pointed out, like the Burtstrom kid having to go both ways. Let me say that I would love to see WB and HHS start having 13,14 win seasons with some Gold Balls returning to their schools from "The Burro", and I really think they can. This would be great for the Blount County football faithful. The question is how? This kind of thing can get mighty tiresome for players when they play the kind of schedule that WB does.

GovMan, It will be fun to watch him this year. Gave all who were there quite a scare last year v. MHS. Really glad when everything turned out ok. He was really fun to watch. Did'nt he have a brother that is playing MLB? Good luck to the Govs

I have heard Cole Lail is tough as nails and a good kid to boot. Will his size hurt him trying to play at the next level? Where does he stack up with other LB's in their region? Did Burstrom graduate?

Rebelman70, Thanks for the info on kickers. The freshman you spoke of, any idea how he compares to the freshman kicker Alcoa had a few years back? I think his name is Reed Guzzo(?) RebelRon is right on, it was nice to see Koyano's kicks go flying into the endzone. Hope this kid can get there.

RebelRon, I saw the Taka young man once off the field. I thought it was one of the Maryville linebackers. He is huge. I wonder if GQ ever thought about, or tried him at LB. I can understand why if not. His leg was huge in M'ville's gameplan. Who is the new kid from Alabama I have heard mention of? Where does he play?

Govman, What is the administration doing to deal with the red-neck hillbillies you spoke of? And why should any parent or fan be inside the locker room period. I know from your posts that one has been banned. The others are right, no player, coach, or family member should be subjected to that.

Suzie, First I want you to know that I admire and respect all the things you have posted here. I usually just read what everyone has to say and go on. Yes, I do have a reason for finally speaking up, but I can assure you that I am no "rookie" and it saddens me that you would resort immediately to name calling. Especially since in the past I have thoroughly enjoyed the good-natured banter between you, Govman, RebelRon, etc.. Second, as to my reasons for speaking up, that is no ones business in particular other than I have an interest in what goes on up there. I apologize if it has appeared that I have some "sour grape" issues, but like all others on this board I am interested in truths also. How can one find out if one does not ask?

no problem dmoyers1. From the article that everyone is talking about in the local paper, it sounds a lot like the problem is being bred in the homes of the kids. Kids tend to repeat what they hear at home. I am sure not all the Gov faithful are down on Meadows, but there is something about one rotten apple can spoil the whole bunch. Gov fans, get rid of the hostile parents and fans, get rid of the alleged rat in the woodpile and get behind Meadows. Then hold on tight, beause the man knows how to win. It may take a while, but I think you will be pleased. Bring on the sophmores and let em have at it. Build that program and soon you will be competing. Is that a pretty accurate feeling from all the other non-WB folks here?

DMoyers1, I apologize for sounding like a bad soap opera, but that is the thread. WB, a program out of control. My source is reliable and if these things are going on they need to be stopped. I agree that high school football is one of the purest, or should be, things around. But year in and year out there is always some drama going on there at Blount. Most times it revolves around fans and players. Will no one buy into the system there to try and establish some sort of consistency.

I'm pretty sure the Lawhon kid had an older brother that played and went to play college ball somewhere. How does the younger stack up to the older, size, speed, strength etc.?

My secret squirrell football player at WB says the rumor is several players are trying to push Meadows, to what end no one knows, by trash talking him to everyone. Also he says that there is a rat in the woodpile. There may be a coach sending info to one or more teams on WB's schedule. If that is true, wonder who would have a reason to try and sabotage Coach M? Coach M, if you read this give me a sign and we will talk. I would love for you to move south and coach our boys.

I think any of the WB coaches would tell you, and probably plenty of players as well, that preparation is not the issue. The issue is that WB, as a team, has no heart and no leadership. How does anyone build a program around a team, again as a whole, that has no heart, drive or dignity. Watch some WB games and you will see players walking on and off the field, laughing with their pals and girlfriends and talking about what they are going to do after they change. Meadows is not the issue.
