  1. It feels good that people are predicting Greenback to finish 4th or 5th in the Region. We aren't used to being the underdog. I hope when it comes time to play us everybody wants to take us lightly instead of gunning for us. I mean after all. We are 20-3 against Region 2 opponents in the past 3 years. On here, its all talk. We talk, Coalfield talks, Oneida talks, Midway talks, Oneida talks, everybody talks. Who knows, Sunbright might knock one of these top 5 teams out of the playoffs this year. But its fun to talk. I think it will be an exciting year. I am not gonna make any predictions though. Anything can happen. I just can't wait for the talking to stop and the playing to begin. I think it will be another competitive year in Region 2 1A. I look forward to seeing how much everybody bench presses and how fast they run their 40's. It's gonna be a fun year.
  2. Thank You, I am not as familiar with that side of the state as I am east. I saw that they had been playing up but I included them because the numbers will be set before they decide to bump up. Thanks for the input because i really want to get an idea of how its gonna be.
  3. How about Austin James from Greenback? Over 6500 passing yards coming in to his senior year.
  4. The baseball team did well last year. The basketball team is suffering a little due to some bad luck losing a few good players over the past couple of years. The wrestling team just came off a district championship year beating Farragut for the title. Football is not the only sport doing well at Greenback. I expect our basketball team to start rebuilding this year and contend in a couple of years. Our baseball team will be strong again next year. Our wrestling team should contend for a state bid in the new A/AA class. Greenback is doing fine. The football team is excited about this season as well as the other sports. Anyone who says otherwise is just trying to stir something up because they are bitter. Greenback does not have the depth it is used to, but the football team does have some freshmen who will be able to step up in 2nd and 3rd string roles. Most 1A schools don't have a third string. We have about 4 to 5 deep in certain positions (about 50 on the roster). I don't know why certain people who are associated with our team (not as a coach or player) continue to run us down on here, but i wish it would stop.
  5. This is how it would possibly be right now with no schools going DII and no schools moving up. Region I King's Academy Cloudland High School Jellico High School Unaka High School *Grace Academy of Knoxville Oneida High School Region II Tennessee School for the Deaf Oakdale High School Sunbright High School Coalfield High School Greenback High School Midway High School Harriman High School Region III *Temple High School * David Brainerd Christian School Copper Basin High School South Pittsburg High School Lookout Valley High School Whitwell High School Region IV Red Boiling Springs High School White House-Heritage High School Clay Co. High School Gordonsville High School Watertown High School * Friendship Christian School Monterey High School Trousdale Co. High School Pickett Co. High School Region V * Mt. High School Wayne Co. High School Collinwood High School Forrest High School Mt. Pleasant High School Cascade High School Region VII * Trinity Christian Academy Middleton High School * Jackson Christian School * Fayette Academy McKenzie High School Perry Co. 6. Mathematically Speaking, the following schools are on the bubble for Class 1A * Fayette Academy 391 Union City High School 391 Hampton High School 393 Cosby High School 395 Peabody High School 399 North Greene High School 407 Alcoa High School 411 Houston Co. High School 412 East Robertson High School 412 Rockwood High School 413 Huntingdon High SchoolB 414 Dresden High School 415 Decatur Co. Riverside High 417 Realistically Speaking There are 13 Private Schools who would be 1A if the classes were made today after the multiplier. The only way that any of these teams larger than Union City gets in 1A is if more of those schools go DII than the larger private school who would now be in 2A and 3A. I don't think that will happen. The larger schools will be more likely to go DII than the smaller schools.
  7. Why does everyone think that Austin James is not a good Quarterback? He has thrown for nearly 6500 yards. He can make things happen. He has won 31 games as a starter. Last year he only had one receiver with any experience at all (Trae Helton). Walker, O'Hara, and Morton were all first year football players. Stockton only started his senior year. Greenback's O-Line is the biggest its been since 1987. K. Dailey 6'2'' 230, C. Dailey 6'3'' 275, H. Hampton 5'11'' 280, J. Hammontree 6'3'' 230, D. Kelley 5'10'' 240, H. Waddell 5'9 260, D. McClurg 6'3'' 210, D. Sandlin 5'11'' 200, N. McCarter 6'4 220. The last couple of years our line averaged about 200 lbs., This year our smallest possible starter is only 200 lbs. Torrey McClurg, Cody Burkett, and Derek Bookout are all fullbacks over 200 lbs. Greg Way should have plenty of blocking. Thomas McDonald and Matt Long can catch the ball. We also have a couple of freshmen who can run and catch. I think that it should be another good year for the Nation. Not denying that Oneida, CAK, Midway, and Coalfield will be tough. It seems as though many people have already counted us out when we have arguably the best two athletes in the region. Our schrimmages were not a good reflection of how we are. We played alot of people trying to give everyone a chance to see how they would do. Also Hammontree was hurt and did not play, but now he is bigger and stronger than ever. Greenback also has the most coaches its had in a while. We now have 8 coaches on staff. So where we are weak, we have alot of people working to get us better. Good luck to everyone in our region. I look forward to seeing some good games this year.
  8. QB: James, Smith RB: Way, Douglas, Gilbert, Bowland WR: Yoakley, Hensley, Armstrong OL: Kevin Dailey, #50 Oneida, Hammontree DB: Douglas, Way, James, Yoakley DL: #50 Oneida, Kevin Dailey
  9. When did coalfield get 4.4 guys? I don't think anyone in Region 2 1A runs a 4.4 now. I know that greenback had one of the fastest guys in the region last year and he only runs a 4.6.
  10. Knox Catholic's Tony Fox put up 42 against Baylor this weekend. His coach said that he wasn't afraid to say that he was the best in the east, neither am I. Is he the best? If not, who is?
  11. After last night's upset of Wartburg, who is the favorite to win Region 2 A. Cosby, Coalfield, Greenback, and Oneida are all in their district championships.
  12. Man, Knox and Hazlett deserved a chance to win. Boo to the refs. I am proud of our region at the tournament, especially Farragut. Good Job!!! Farragut, you guys came through for us. Dix, Turner, and Knox really impressed me and won the close ones to get there. Kerry and Joe did a heck of a job coaching them. I'm proud of Region 2 for all the outstanding wrestlers that did their best at state. Coach Ridge Greenback
  13. One other thing is that the number of schools in the state that have wrestling programs is growing. For every 50 or so football teams, there is a state champion in DI football. For every 50 teams in DI wrestling there is 1/3 of a state champion. When the split first occurred in 1997, there were only about one hundred or so wrestling teams in the state. Now there are quite a few more. There needs to be two or three classes for state duals. I would love to have something to hang in my gym this year besides district and regions plaques. I think the small schools can be good, but I don't know how good they can be. I know that we could compete with most schools in our area of the state who have less than 1000 students. I think it is easy for a school of our size to maximize the ability of the team, but we don't have the numbers or support to ever compete with bradley, clarksville, or soddy, although in the next few years we will do our best to try. I would hope that we could, in the future, have a chance at a state title against schools more like us. Coach Ridge GHS
  14. 1) Zach Dunn WB 2) Paul Campbell SD 3) Tim Pease CV 4) Kenny Meridith BM 5) James Kimbrell CC 6) Josh Cooper BC
  15. Good news, I'm glad he is back. He could make a run at state.
  16. The guys that Maryville has that will not go to state will pick up some wins. This will score advancement points for them that Farragut will not have a chance to score. The guys who do not go to state for farragut will be lucky to win a match at regions. Where as Maryville has quality guys who could be seeded top eight at each weight class. It will be interesting to see who wins Regions, but my bets are on Maryville. Although, I have seen it happen the way that Farragut is saying. If Farragut wins at 112, 125, 140, 152, 160, and 171, they will win the tournament. If their 145 was still healthy, they would win for sure. Good luck Farragut.
  17. So only 6 teams will have a region champ. What about Maryville? Thomason has been impressive this year. Landon Hall, what about that guy? Everett vs. Breeden will be a good one for 125. 189 Dunn from WB is the best by far. Farragut will not win the tournament, Maryville will. They should have several state qualifiers. 125, 135, 140, 145, 152, 171, 189, HWT. Farragut does not even have that many wrestlers. Farragut will have several, too. 112, 125, 140, 152, 160, 171 maybe 130 and 189, but the rest of Maryvilles wrestlers will win a few matches.
  18. Congrats Seymour, Good Job Marty, Excellent Tournament. I think this event will help promote growth for wrestling in our area.
  19. I'm sorry you feel that way. We are not the best team in the region, Maryville is. What have you guys done? I think if you are so great you should come coach this team. Maybe we would get some style points for wrestling like college wrestlers. I hope you can find time to do whatever you do with your team around putting my team down. I thought the point of wrestling was to win. We do that. I don't have to say that my team is the second best or whatever, I have a plaque that says that. A headlock is a move. It works. If you cannot defend it, then start practicing to. It is not illegal. We don't teach it though. Go watch the Greenback eight graders wrestle in the JV regions and see how many of them use headlocks. Goodluck to you and your team and I hope things get better for you so you can start saying some positive things.
  20. I know that Maryvill is already in. Who else? Tell me as you find out. My predictions are 8. I Science Hill 7. II Maryville 1. III Bradley 2. IV Soddy 3. V Franklin 6. VI Overton 4. VII Kenwood 5. VIII Collierville
  21. Greenback has 245, but we couldn't beat FRA. FRA is by far the toughest small school in the state. They beat Hillsboro. I am very impressed with their performance this year. I wish them good luck if they make it to state.
  22. I don't want to hear anymore threats toward anybody on this thread. Yes it was a slam, it knocked Lively out cold. The match should have been stopped and Greenback should have been rewarded the 6 point victory. Instead the call was not made and we didnt even have a chance to win because our kid was lying unconscious on the mat. How is this not excessive force? Anyway, this would have made the final score 33-30 Greenback. If this had not occurred and the match went the distance, Greenback could have made it a 30-30 tie winning 8 out of 14 matches and therefore win the match by criteria. Lively was only down by 2 when the slam occurred. And the final score was not 46-39, 85 points are not even possible in 14 weight classes. The final was 36-27. Greenback won seven. Maryville won seven. I just wish we would have had a chance to win eight. Maryville is a good team, and I wish them luck. I do not blame anyone for the loss. The call should have been made. This post blame on the referee, not the kid.
  23. In the past 6 years, Region 2 has drawn Region 7 three times. The probability of this randomly occurring in .18% or about 1 in 500. Region 5 has drawn Region 1 three times out of six as well; same probability. Conversely, in the past six years, Region 3 has not drawn Region 4 or Region 5. That means that those two regions have been kept away from Bradley. Who has got Bradley first? Region 8 has been the bearer of this three times out of six, Region 1 twice, and Region 7 with Clarksville back when they were just up and coming. Now, does that sound random? I think someone has their eyes open in this blind draw.
  24. Both matches last night were good. Maryville and Greenback came down to the last match. Karns and Maryville came down to the last match. All the teams represented wrestled to their peak. I was proud to be a part of it. Good luck Maryville, I hope they represent our region well.
