  1. Some people are just born losers. Glad I'm not one of them. By the way, have you seen the new comic book for Star Wars: Attack of the Clones? It's good, but nearly as good as Star Trek, Season 4, Episode 9. Shatner is a GOD (but I don't mean that in a sacreligious way). Thanks for answering my questions. If you ever see Coach Tom Tyler please tell him I said hello. Tell his calves, too. Trapped in a quagmire is what I am.
  2. EastTNFootballExpert pulled one of the greatest stunts of all time on this board. I have to give him props for that one. His shenigans were as explosive as fireworks on the 4th of July. Titan Fireworks, that is.
  3. Eddie Haskell, What do you think would happen if we got the band back together and really cut loose on Coach T message boards? Me, you, jetjuice, et al. The wrath of sarcasm, satire and hyperbole would shut down the site. Man, those were the good old days. They should do an A & E Biography on those years. I've been gone too long. Have things changed much over there at Donald Lipscomb on Granny Wyatt Pike? Does Taylor Madison still play DB for Lipscomb? He was a great kicker, too. Does Josh Greene still coach there? He was a great QB coach. Does that one guy, Simon Turner, still play the accordian during halftime at the Lipscomb games? My favorite is when he played We Are Family by Earth, Wind and Fire. Does Tom Taylor still have huge calves due to the fact that he mows the entire game field with a push mower while wearing Strength Shoes? Is Coach McAdam still obsessed with all things Irish? He used to love playing tennis, too. Does Coach Tilghman still run marathons? Is Coach Stuart still grading research papers? Is Jonathan Shaub a senior this year? So many questions . . . so little time.
  4. New coach. New schemes, too? How will they be for 2007-08?
  5. Who all has Dyer scrimmaged this year? How did they do last night in the jamboree?
  6. The high school office just said they would host a 6 team jamboree Friday beginning at 6:00. I cannot remember all the teams, but I do know Dyer Co. will scrimmage Bruceton around 8:00.
  7. Can anybody give us any info on the Dyer Co. jamboree on August 11? Times? Teams?
  8. Year in and year out Hoptown is very athletic. They were very good last year. They had a QB named Pulley who is now at UK competing for playing time as a true freshman that was outstanding. However, I hear that their former coach left for Franklin, TN b/c the cupboard was bare. I think their new coach is DIxie Jones, who is a great coach. I saw Alcoa last year and cannot imagine too many people beating them, regardless of state or classification. They are downright scary.
  9. I believe Lipscomb will win by 28 plus. As always, these opponents come in with a good record only to be manhandled.
  10. How are they looking so far? I hear they are improving rapidly, whcih I guess is good seeing as how they don't even have seniors on their team yet.
  11. I'm going to go with Lipscomb's Andrew Stewart. He's taken a bunch of slow white boys and turned them into a cohesive unit. And I will disagree w/ scissors take on Gore. Gore was an average DB coach at best. The guy that followed Gore was worse than Gore. Stewart took a difficult, messed up situation and lead Lipscomb to a state championship. Don't think it's an accident that in Stewart's first year to be fully in charge of the secondary Lipscomb wins it all. He played for Sandusky & Joe Paterno - he knows how to coach DB's.
  12. Kevin Temple w/ Lipscomb's middle school program actually deserves most of the credit for their success. Most don't realize that he is meticulous and pays great attention to the finer points of the art of blocking. While most middle school coaches are drawing up trick plays in the dirt Temple is doing one more drill to improve footwork and body position. He should probably be McAdam's successor at DL, but I'm afraid it won't happen. Too many people give credit to Taylor and some green-horn defensive coordinator. We all know that the unsung heroes of any program are the hogs in the trenches. Which brings up another interesting point: DL's O-line averages 112 lbs. Their prowess comes from 3 things: technique, technique and technique. Again, they can thank Temple for that.
  13. Popeyethesailor, Thanks. I will pass along the info to David. He is a bit overwhelmed and even embarrassed by all of this, but that is just further proof of his humility and character. Someone else questioned about David's size. He is a little bigger than the 6'2" 250 listing. He is probably closer to 6'3" and is every bit of 255, and maybe 260. Another thing about David is that he is relatively young for a senior. He has not even begun to start putting on the "man weight" (that weight males put on when they go from adolescence to adulthood). Furthermore, David has never been able to hit the weight room and training table like he will in college. He has the frame to hold close to 300 lbs.
  14. I know David, and he is indeed mature beyond his years. He is a great young man. It's great to see a story which focuses on such valor.
  15. Must see TV. This one will re-air on Tuesday at 7:00 (I think) on Comcast 75. A truly great high school football game must include the following: 1. A great rivalry . . . There are some as big, but none bigger than this one. The place was packed 2 hours before gametime. These two schools love to battle. 2. See-saw battles . . . Lipscomb up 21-6. Goodpasture scores 22 unanswered. Three turnovers on four plays. 3. Fluke plays . . . DeMarcos Robinson, Goodpasture's 300 lb. defensive tackle, intercepts a Burton Elrod screen pass after it bounced of an offensive lineman's head and returns it for a TD. 4. Big plays . . . Goodpasture's Turner (WR) & Janco (QB) connect on a big-time fade TD. Lispcomb's Austin Rogers was in great position, but can do nothing to stop this connection. Elrod connects w/ Rogers for several big plays. Janco connects w/ what seems like everyone. 5. Heroic efforts . . . Lipscomb's middle LB, Madison Taylor, ends the night with 20 tackles. Goodpasture's defensive ends, Jones & Cobb as well as LB's, Alford and Haynes are unblockable. Neither team ever quit. 6. In-the-zone performances . . . Janco can't miss. Lipscomb's Cutler Robertson (RB) runs for over 180 yds., receives for another 15, and scores 24 of Lipscomb's 38 points. 7. Dramatic endings . . . Screen pass INT for TD w/ 2:00 to go puts GP up 35-28. Elrod connects w/ Rogers on a bomb on DL's next offensive play. GP held three and out. DL's Robertson runs for what appears to be a long TD w/ under 1:00 to go. Three seconds left and Robertson kicks a 35 yard field go as the clock ticks to 0:00. 8. "Tears" of joy . . . (These are males, so of course no one actually cried, but there were some sweaty eyes.) 9. "Tears" of devastation . . . (Again, these are males, so no one actually cried.) 10. Hand-shakes of respect . . . Just a few years ago this rivalry was dangerously close to being ugly. Now things have brightened, thank goodness. The players have nothing but the utmost respect for one another, and the same can be said for the coaching staffs.
  16. Coachhard, The MC/Greenbrier game will be a good one. I agree w/ twittycanes in that it will be high scoring. I was very impressed w/ Herndon. I told him after the game that he was one of the grittiest high school football players I'd ever seen. Greenbrier's offense amassed far more yardage & points on DL than MC did. Take away MC's late TD drive vs. DL and they were held to under 175 yards of offense. According to the paper, Greenbrier had around 450 yards of offense against DL. Mario Davis is once again the real deal. He's so tough to bring down even though I wouldn't at all call him a punishing runner. He's very slippery and even deceiving. I also agree w/ twittycanes that MC's passing game is pretty good. The QB is pretty agile and was able to buy himslef a little time and find the open receiver. He's also a shifty runner. MC's O-line is huge and physical; I was very impressed with the agility of their monstorous tackles. However, I've never seen an O-line that loves to run block more than Greenbrier's. It's like they have recognzied that their "calling" is to open holes and nothing will stop them. I'd love to see this game. I think Greenbrier has a great shot at winning. Is the game in Lewisburg?
  17. I know this is an old thread, but it's that time of year again. Football fans in Tennessee look forward to a few things: UT/Alabama, UT/UF, Titans/Colts (or at least we used to), Vandy/Mt. Holy Oak Women's Junior College AND Lipscomb Frosh/Portland Frosh. The game is sold out, but scalpers are still selling. I bought two today for merely double face value. Granted, they're in the upper deck, but I'm just happy to be going. Rumor has it that dozens of NFL, college and private high school scouts will be in attendance. Apparently Ohio State needs a running back, the Titans need a kicker, and well, I'll stop before I say something ugly. ESPN lost the rights to this game. CBS out bid them, and I hear Jefferson Pilot also has expressed interest. Many think they'll carry it in 2009. I realize this could get me in copyright trouble, but I'm selling a DVD copy of the entire storied series on e-Bay. Look me up.

  19. Gameday spread is down to Marshall County by 6. And I'm sure Lispcomb cares little about whether Sweetwater was the better team in 2002. Lipscomb won that game and went on to win the state championship. I heard their rings say nothing of Sweetwater. For the last several years Marshall County has been eliminated from the play-offs by "inferior" teams, but the final scores still stand.
  20. Here's my list based on who I saw in person and/or on film. I admit, I have left off some good teams, but I will not comment out of ignorance. 1. Lipscomb 2. Tyner 3. Goodpasture 4. Sweetwater 5. Milan 6. Lewis County 7. Mitchell 8. McKenzie 9. Polk County 10. Marion County 11. Oliver Springs Again, I know I left off some good teams, but I really wonder how many people are out there that have seen half these teams play? Something to remember before we get upset over these subjective polls.
  21. I too was very impressed with the coverage. I've seen some games from other states, and the coverage we got was exceptional. Thanks to all who put time, effort and money into this endeavor.
