  1. I believe it should be allowed as an elective for schools but not to replace wellness. State requirements mandate that all students pass the course life time wellness which is a combination of both health and physical education. As elective for athletes I think that it is a great idea, it would cut down a lot of headaches for coaches and players who do have to stay late. There are many concerns about obesity in the state, so it is important to have wellness to teach about the lifetime pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. With the new requirement of 90 minutes of physical activity per week it is also a scenerio to help improve obesity in the youth (Which is a joke, the way it was written, but that's a whole other story.). There shouldn't be less weight placed on PE courses than others and yes there is such a thing as homework in PE, teachers can't just sit there and roll out a ball anymore, there are to many things to be held accountable for anymore. Of course this is coming from someone who was at one time a HS coach and PE teacher and is now at U of South Carolina getting a Ph.D. in Physical Education Pedagogy. Just my opinion.
  2. Sorry Bearrs, but I'm picking Polk, hope its the other way around. Tellico is young. They have very few seniors and mostly underclassmen playing. They are a smaller team than what most Tellico teams have been in the past. Coach Hunt is building the program, he will have them going in the right direction soon. Polk is well coached and has the "beef' to run the ball efficiently. They won't win any style points but with Coach Mackersie calling the offense and Coach Davis on the defensive side of the ball, they will execute well.
  3. Loudon by 14. Central doesn't have the closing capabilities yet I don't think. They will get there next year I believe, but this will be another learning season.
  4. Sweetwater by 21+. Although I would hope that Seq wins. Sweetwater is very solid at the skill positions. Granted it is a rivalry game in Seq eyes, but to be a rivalry don't both teams have to win frequently? (around 50-50) I am not dissing Seq by any means, I think that Tellico/Sweetwater isn't a rivalry in football because Tellico hasn't beaten Sweetwater in a while. Just my opinion.
  5. Zone Pirate, Now that's funny I don't care who you are...
  6. Some speed. Not any rabbit catchers, but some speed for Tellico standards. Good numbers when I left in the spring. (I don't know how many Freshman came out, so I would assume the #s are pretty good. )
  7. Don't count your chickens before they hatch Old War Horse. ND will probably win the region (Where do they play? at Howard I am thinking.), followed by Howard then a scramble for 3-4 with Polk, Meigs, ER and the rest of the region. Central is a year away from being a contender, they have a good staff and a good young core of players, but look for next year+ for them to be on their way. The Bears are not that big or slow, they have a couple of kids who are big. Big TJ is over 300 (yes he can move), he is only a sophomore and Nic Talley is a big guy. New Head Coach, (Coach Hunt) who has been part of the program for a long time. Trust me I played for the man. He will lead, they will follow and things will change in the future. It may take some time but all the kids love the man. I hope the boys are doing well this offseason. Go Bears!!
  8. I know this is the 4A-5A board. but I know a couple of kids from Tellico went, because, I told them to go before I left. Does anyone know how they did? Adam Crocker WR - Tall kid, good hands, not really fast, a good possession guy. Matthew Miller TE - Good kid, needed the experience to contribute consistently I thought. Did anyone catch how they did?
  9. What are the predictions for Region 3-3A? Will Howard, Polk or Meigs win the Region? Can Notre Dame be a surprise? They lost a lot. What about Tellico, Central, Grundy, Seq., East Ridge? Can any of them turn the corner?
  10. Currently the apartment we are renting is located close to Irmo High School, I drove by it the other day looking around in the area. Our house is being built in the Lexington area. I love HS Ball as well, it will be odd for the first time in about 4+ years I don't have to worry about coaching it, I can just watch for once. Nah, I will still be in the stands analyzing what is going on. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  11. I am going to Columbia. I will be attending the University of South Carolina to pursue my Ph.D.
  12. I am moving to SC to further my education. I am giving up the coaching for now and looking to see some HS football while in SC. Do they have any sites like this? Although I will frequent CoachT often. Good Luck to all Monroe County Teams, especially my Bears.
  13. Well the numbers are pretty high at the start we have close to 50, which is good. We expect about 15 freshman to come out. THe freshman group should provide us with some athletic ability. A lot of the kids are newcomers who have never played, or played in little league and not played in HS. We are really small compared to years past, not a lot of size.
  14. Spring Practice started yesterday for Tellico. Spring will end with a scrimmage against Greenback on the 18th.
  15. Coach Kelley took the position on a one year basis. The Head Football Coach at TPHS is Trevor Hunt. This was done way back in fall, the kids all knew it before the season ended. No releases because it wasn't a big deal because everyone already knows it.
  16. I thought that Oklahoma would take an insult to "ND's unprecedented 39 game winning streak". Oklahoma led by coach Bud Wilkinson won 47 straight games. (Div I) and Mount Union (Div. III) won 54 straight games, so I don't know how unprecedented the 39 game winning streak is. I am in no means an Oklahoma or ND fan, but I am a college football fan, and just thought it was relevant.
  17. Call TSSAA @ 615-889-6790 for any other questions. Just ask to speak with someone about the football state championship games.

  19. They are still allowing it, I just got off of the phone with them. I will be taking some players from my school. They said you need a list of players and coaches on school stationary signed by the principal and bring it to gate N4. (Everyone must arrive as a group though. ) They no longer want it to be faxed.
  20. It is posted on the Monroe County Site, that is where it must be posted for at least three days before a hire is made. http://www.monroe.k12.tn.us/mcs/html/JOBS.HTM
  21. Senior Lady Bear of Tellico Plains, Brooke McKinnon signs with Lee University to play Basketball. Good luck Brooke.
  22. It was Harms. And yes, Daniel was good, but that OL was a huge part of the reason that he was as good as he was.
  23. He went to Riceville as the vice principal.
