  1. If they meet again it will be at Cloudland in the Semi-finals. But there is a lot of football to be played between now and then. SP would have to get by Boyd Buchanan and Gordonsville first if not a few other teams and Cloudland would have to win their part. I would like to see a rematch, I just hate to have to make that drive again.
  2. I hope that you are right but you can't count Grundy out. I think it will be close. Remember, this is the same game that went into 3 overtimes last year and if not for a missed XP it would have gone into 4. Of course if not for a missed field goal in regulation then Grundy would have won. Of course that was last year and this is this year but I won't go so far as to say that it won't be close ... but I will hope for it
  3. As much as I wish that was the case, it's not so. The media does use that in their lead every year about the SP/MC game but there have been a few interruptions to it.
  4. Poor thing, if she was taken to the local hospital she is in trouble
  5. South Pittsburg's run defense looked good. Latham was able to get a couple of big runs but overall he was shut down pretty well. He looked like a good back but he needed a little more help from up front. When they tried to go outside they were stopped pretty well also. I think Sweetwater can rebound and have a good season, they just have to pull all of hte pieces in and put them all together.
  6. I was surprised at the score. I knew SP COULD win but I didn't know for sure if they WOULD win ... especially not by the score that it was. On a side note, does anyone know what happened to the fan in the stands after the game? I saw the ambulance pull up but couldn't see what was going on.
  7. Well, I sure hope so ... this year I am hoping for 14 wins. 9-0 Regular season 4-0 through the playoffs and Win the State game for the 14th win. Will it happen? I don't know but I am keeping my fingers crossed for it
  8. Maybe so, however even if we hadn't been turned in it would still have only been a 2 win season which I consider a bad season. No wait, a TERRIBLE season.
  9. Ok, either your not a Pirate fan, you have a short term memory or are just trying to stir the pot. I'm still trying to forget the 2000 season.
  10. He sounds like a hoss. Great size and apparently great ability. It should be a good matchup if his game is between the tackles. That is where SP's defense is the toughest in my opinion. It should be a great battle to see which one holds up the longest. I can't wait to see the action tomorrow night. Thanks for the response. I was wanting to know what to look for tomorrow night and from the sound of it it could be one of the better matchups in the state.
  11. How big is this Latham kid? What are his stats? Does anyone know?
  12. WEPG is the AM station in South Pittsburg and it is on 910.
  13. South Pittsburg showed some action through the air with QB Ron Cook the other night in the jamboree but it is not something that SP has ever really done in the past. They have always been a ground team, this year could be different though. Cook showed a good, accurate arm. At the Tailback spot look for Senior David Cagle and Freshman Cody Walker to shoulder the load running the ball. Jeremiah Griffith, Jeremy Allison and Alex Adcock were the main receivers that night but there are a few others that can play the wideout spot also. Defensively look for Cagle and senior Ben Blevins to be 2 hard hitting linebackers that keep themselves in position to always make a play. The defensive line will be tough to run on, especially up the middle. From what I have read SP will be the more experienced team with more returning starters but Sweetwater will be the bigger team. It should be a great game. Too bad it will be the first time in over 20 years that these two great teams have met. Sorry Tank that I couldn't give much more than that but now tell us what to expect from Sweetwater. All I have really seen on them is a little about the Lupton kid.

    Wing-T

Many coaches run offenses that they ran when they were in school or offenses that they have been taught a great deal about. Such as the single wing that South Pittsburg used to run up until a few years ago. Others use what has worked for them time after time after time such as Ken Colquette and the Veer. And some change from time to time depending on the talent they have. You may see a team with big bruisers in the backfield running a power I or maybe a team with a good passing game with a spread out offense. The wing T may be boring to some, it may be the wrong offense to use for some, or it may be just the right thing at the right program to produce great results. No, it's not right for everyone and yes, some schools use it when they don't have the right talent for it. But as with any offense, when it is put into motion with the right coaches and the right players it can be very effective.
  15. I've heard that the QB is hurt and that his back up is also hurt. How is Ron, what is his injury and when will he be healthy and ready to go. Will he or Matthews be healthy for Sweetwater?
  16. The guy from South Pittsburg is pretty good. It's no UT network broadcast or anything but he does a good call of the games.
  17. How many kids do they have out this year?
  18. From the Greeneville Sun: Highly touted wide receiver Eric Locke has left Tusculum. Pioneer head coach Frankie DeBusk said Monday that although Locke was a student at Tusculum all last school year, practiced with the football team last fall and took part in spring drills, he did not report with the rest of the team on Aug 6. "Eric has some personal problems at home, and for personal reasons he has decided to move on with his life and not play college football at this point and time," Debusk said. "I have no indication that he will be returning," Debusk said.
  19. Ought to be a tough one, I heard the school for the blind had a pretty good running back this year. Seems to have a hard time finding the whole though.
  20. Last year they were picked too high from the beginning. This was actually to be their year talent wise. Unfortunately the schedule is rough. Still it's going to be a better season and more enjoyable season by far
  21. Does SP have any more scrimmages before the Jamboree?
  22. Amen Jock6996. Polls don't really amount to a hill of beans, especially in HS where you have a state playoff. Someone gave their idea in their own opinion about where they thought everyone ranked. Not necessarily how they would fare in head to head competition but how they shake out with schedule and classification among the things considered. For some reason people get bent out of shape over it. Wait until the first couple of weeks and see where every is then. And then if you still don't like it, make a poll of you own and post it on here.
  23. Does the TSSAA website update throughout games or does it only list finals?
  24. That is pretty much what he said would happen. That once they get back in school that they would have to pull some boys out and encourage them. Now all of this is hearsay but he is usually a pretty reliable source of info. They have this trouble up there from time to time. I remember a few times in the past when they only had 3 or 4 players on the bench.
  25. Talked to a friend from up that way (Lookout Valley) and he said the other day for practice they didn't have enough. He said that only about 10 showed up. He said that he expects them to pick up a few in the next few days but that they probably won't have 20. He said maybe around 15 or 16 or so.
