Bobericks, No disrepect meant... but, not everyone knows what some abbreviations mean. AC? AC might mean several teams... Thanks for giving us the info., just need a bit more.
  6. Question from a truly unbiased person. I haven't got a "favorite" local team. I like to pull for all of Region I and Region II (I-81 and East). For all the people who doubt the Landers, how far will they need to progress into the playoffs and how large will the margins of victory need to be to prove themselves in your minds? Just want to know at what point, you will say "Yes, Cloudland has a great football team and they aren't overrated." What is the mark they need to hit? Thanks
  7. Soddy Daisy, DB is playing very well right now. DB might get beat later in the playoffs, but don't expect them to have a lapse again like they did against Karns. The did stick it to Science Hill last week, and from what I hear it could have been a lot worse. Coach Clark is a standup guy and you won't see the score run up intentionally. Soddy Daisy, good luck - Enjoy the atmosphere and the game in Kingsport. Get ya some Pal's frenchie fries and a big tea on the way to the game. Game at D-B are electric when the stands are full (and the D-B side will be full). Last week's game with Science Hill - over 8,000 fans according to local media Bill Lane. Soddy Daisy fans, don't go to the concession stand during DB's Band's performance either. Largest High School Band in Tennessee, from what I hear. They aren't just loud... they're great. My prediction D-B 42 (D-B Band 14) Soddy Daisy 13 (I'm sure the D-B coaches and players aren't looking ahead- but I am. To Lincoln County. Ooooo, I want to see that game.)
  8. In Far Away Northeast Tennessee: Lamon Williams - WR Dobyns Bennett - Every D1 school imaginable is fighting over this kid The Coker Kid from Morristown East is huge - stay on those weights and hit the track Chucky Lindholm of Volunteer - tall, good arm, smart QB Can't leave off Byrd QB and Benfield RB from Cloudland I'd also look for big things from RB Major Canty of Tennessee High Just my humble observations...
  9. Gosh, you're guess is a good as mine on the confusion. We do have some teams in my area that also use a button on a cord on the sideline. Most, however, are up in the pressbox sitting next to the home team guy who does the score etc. and where all 5 officials can be seen. Keeping the clock on the field with a cord is tough. You're right, this is just an on/off switch. This is just a button and is not capable of having or showing a different time than the scoreboard, which I'm sure you know. I'm just explaining it for the others who still are confused with the magic field clock. There should be no confusion. I think people sometimes feel the need to justify things in their minds. But I also agree with everyone else.... too much time and wasted breath here. I'm done. Thanks inot2bad for being a voice of undrstanding and reason.
  10. Love the humor Red. I'm done with this. I'm going back to my grassy nole thread.
  11. I don't doubt that at all and I totally agree with you here. Frankly, I just am sick of hearing about this field clock. I just know what each official has responsibilities for in a situation like this. I'm done with this now... I can't shed any more light on it. I do hope they play again. Planning on coming to see the game. Good luck to all and keep playing hard. The officials....well can't worry about that nor do anything about it. That's life.
  12. hmmm. funny, I guess the rest of the officials in the state are doing it wrong then, by using the clock and the TSSAA clock keeper.
  13. dump, first off which offical are you talking about? I presume you are talking about the backjudge having a wrist watch. Yes he has a watch that is used for 25 seconds/delay of game. It either beeps or vibrates (most vibrate) to inform him of 25 seconds violations. He does not watch the watch he watches his keys and the game as the ball is being snapped. But, it does not nor is he responsible for the game clock. If you knew anything about officiating mechanics you'd know that the umpire has responsibility for the game clock since the referee has his back to it. Jus ask your local officials they'll tell you. No one on the field in high school football keeps the clock. I do draw from a wealth of high school football officating in my past. Simply the officials blew it and both teams start the playoffs this coming Friday.
  14. O.k. I'll ask this for everyone who seems to know so much and keeps talking about the "field clock". Where was this "field clock" during the game? Was there an official on the field watching it and forgetting about correct officiating mechanics and inforcing rules? Was it on the referee's wrist? Was it in the Umpire's pocket? The linejudge's hip? What does the "field clock" look like? Does Santa appear for big games like this and hover behind the backjuge, informing him of the official time? It's also amazing that their was only 2-3 seconds difference in the two clocks, if this clock was being kept the entire game. Or did the officating crew sync the scoreboard clock and the "field clock" ever few plays? Just use common sense...
  15. Ahhh, the imaginary field clock.
  16. dump, If the center is watching the clock between his legs, this must mean the scoreboard clock at the field was behind the offense. Thus, the referee does not have the responsibility of watching both the clock behind him and the snapper in front of him. The umpire who is set between the linebackers should have a straight line view of the clock and the ball. Of course, I don't know wehre the clock is at this field, but according to others, the snapper was looking at it between his legs. Sooo, it sounds like the umpire dropped the ball here so to speak. He should have been the one to wave off the play as time had expired. This call would be no different than a play in baseball at first base. By the way, did a horn blow? The horn is supposed to be turned off in football. I bet no horn blew. Love to hear from people at the game on this.
  17. Nice post inot2bad. Some people are a little naive.
  18. inot2bad, Because there IS NO clock kept on the field. This is hogwash. Ask a local official which official keeps the time on the field. It is not done in Tennessee high school football. If it was done, imagine how many times they would need to stop the game and sync the clocks.... after nearly every play. THe TSSAA provides an offical to keep the scoreboard clock, and only the clock portion, not all the other stuff like score and down and distance. The home school pays for this official just like the five on the field. Now why would they do this if the scoreboard was just for the fans. Either the referee or the umpire, whom ever was facing the scoreboard clock was supposed to be watching the clock. I don't understand why some people accept the explanation of a clock being kept on the field. The next game you attend, take the time to watch each of the five officials and see if one is starting and stopping a gameclock on their person. The only official keeping any kind of time is the back judge. He has a timer that counts down 25 seconds which either buzzes or vibrates to tell him the offense has exceeded 25 seconds and is guilty of delay of game. Please don't be fooled by this "on the field clock" stuff. It does not exist.
  19. Looking ahead in Regions 3 & 4 5A.... Lincoln County on Nov. 28th will be playing in Kingsport vs. Dobyns Bennett. Ohhh, I hope this game happens. This would be so fun to watch
  20. What makes this such an "important" game? Why should we need really "special" refs for this game and not for other games. Refs are refs. They are the human element of the game that makes it fun. It has been this way since football was organized, and will always be that way. Brandon buddy, you're right here. "Special" refs, now that's just silly. LOL
  21. Yep, you got a great team. If you don't look past White Hillwood/Stratford winner and and then Melrose.... you'll get.... in one word.... Maryville. scary! (Of course, I'm looking ahead)
  22. Cementmixer, honey trust me. Take this from a person who has officiated many high school games in the past... the officials in Tennessee high school football DO NOT keep any kind of clock ON THE FIELD. The only time this happens is when the scoreboard clock isn't working and the ECO comes on the field and sets up behind the referee. Listen, I don't care who won this game. I just want you to understand that the officials have too many other things going on on the field and Not One of the five keep a clock. It does not happen. Please ask one of your local officials which official keeps a clock on the field. None do. Whether you are a BA fan or MBA, take solice in the fact you're gonna see each other again this year anyway. You'll all get another shot at each other. Heck, I'm planning to make the 4½ hour drive to see the game myself. Both of your programs are well respected throughout TN and for that matter throughout the US. Be proud of what you have, very few ever even see games the caliber you are used to seeing. Now I know you're sick of the clock thing. I'll hush.
  23. What official game clock would that be? $100 says there was no clock on the field. Look the tape over and see if the referee had a clock or watch he was referring to (standard wrist watches don't countdown either). The official clock won't be there because this is not standard mechanics in Tennessee High School football. They don't keep a clock on the field unless the scoreboard goes out and the ECO (Electric Clock Operator ) comes down and keeps it on the field. Do you believe everything you hear on the news? Find a local official in your area and ask them if they ever keep a clock on the field that is separate from the scoreboard. One more thing.... if the scoreboard isn't official, why do TSSAA officials keep the clock at every varsity game and the home school pays for it? Hmmmm.
  24. dbrady, I completely agree with your opinion here. I am also not affiliated with either team. I'd like to hear [/i]exactly how the official time was being kept on the field. That's funny. Was the referee wearing a watch designed for countdown? This would have been a first. The ECO (Electric Clock Operator) is the offical responsible for having this type watch as a backup should the score board go out, not any of the officials on the field. Could the offical running the scoreboard clock also have the offical time...and they be different...no. If there was a differance in the "official time" on the field and the scoreboard, why didn't the officials correct the scoreboard previous to this? Everytime I've seen a mistake by the official running the scoreboard clock, which is caught by the on-field officials, they stop the game and fix the clock. Why is that, if the offical time is kept on the field. According to this excuse, the scoreboard had to have been incorrect and the referee knew this before clock started the final time. How else could he know that there was time left even though the clock said 0:00? How much was the offical time different than the scoreboard? Here's a kicker for you to think about... Why does a TSSAA official keep the clock on the scoreboard and the schools pay for this, if it isn't official? This is hogwash.... My 2cents.
