  1. Just so the record is straight, South's standout sophomore, Bailee Dick, started at point guard on the Rebel varsity last season.
  2. Nice comment maroonandgrey. The kid's name is Bailee Dick. Sophomore PG. He was really thrown to the wolves last season as a freshman, as the South varsity needed a ball handling PG. I can tell you that he is certainly a fine young man with great character, both on and off the court. The South community is proud of him as well and also look forward to seeing what he becomes over the next two years.
  3. You're just confusing the classes here. The previous poster was refering to the RISING Junior class, since he said they won the Region I Middle School Championship. The CURRENT Junior/Rising Senior Class did not have the opportunity to play for a Region I title. The first Region I title game was played the next season with Colonial Heights led by Seth Watterson, Aaron St. Clair, Ty Garvin, Clint Phillips, and Caleb Anderson defeated a tough Vance team led by Taylor Harmon. The current Sophomore/rising Junior class won the first Region I Middle School Championship, where as the current Junior/rising Senior class played for the Sullivan County Championship, where they were upset by a good Holston team led by Carl Roberts. The original poster IS correct though, the current RISING Junior class did win the Region I Middle School Championship, the MCL Freshman Title, and the MCL JV Title this season going undefeated. 2008 - Since that is the Thread Both the rising Junior and rising Senior classes have a good bit of talent. The '08 Rebels will be good at QB with Jeffers, excellent at RB, very good at WR, and very good at LB. Hopefully Fletcher and B. Taylor along with Neeley will see action at LB, joining Garvin and Clint Phillips. Fletcher and B. Taylor seem to just be the type of guys that can blowup offenses and have a way of being on the ball. The '08 OL and DL have some anchors, such as Hunter Beedle (who should have been MCL 1st team) and TJ Blanken. But the OL and DL need some kids from the rising Junior class to really step in and step up. Keep eating and working Ervin. The defensive backfield will need to be improved as well, as we saw how a real passing team like Maryville can exploit coverage mistakes. Spencer Sandidge will be missed - humble young man and great coverage corner. We also trust the '08 team, like the '07 team, will be in shape and conditioned. 2007 Season - Comp, do you remember me telling you a few opinions (everyones got one) of mine early in this past season, from my sometimes different perspective (you think I was crazy?): #1 I worried about the OL and DL stepping up. I have to say they pleasantly surprised me and did much better that I thought possible. Nice work hogs. Several including Rasnake will be missed. #2 I said when the Rebs play a real passing team, we will get picked on deep. - Well, Maryville #3 I said Fletcher needs more carries. #4 I said eventually we would see athletic corners and our WRs would not get off the line and open. Well, again, Maryville. #5 I asked the question, why don't we ever go deep, especially when a team tries to cover a burner with a LB? Not everyone leaves the slot out pattern wide open like Woods and West. I do trust the Rebels learned a great deal this year and I certainly believe with hard work all these things can be improved/corrected. All in all. we should see another great South team which sould be very balanced. It was also great to play Maryville so the boys know what it is like, and to what heights they dare to attain. Congrats on a great 2007 season Rebels. 2008 Rebels - One Question - do you feel satisfied? Hope not.
  4. ??? Volunteers? Vols? Uhhh, try Falcons. But it's the thought that counts; thanks Southers! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  5. I typed a novel and erased a novel. Let's just say, I disagree.
  6. Completely agree. This kid is amazing. As great a career/season as some of the other deserving players have had, Phillips is the top dog, with second place being off in the distance. Just the truth. As far as Maryville goes, this is a team game and Maryville does kinda have a bit of a program built down there if anyone hasn't noticed. But, if any one player can lead a team over the mighty Maryville Rebels, it's Phillips. The rest of the Sullivan South Rebels aren't too bad either /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> . Oh, by the way, Phillips finished Friday Night's game with 140 yards rushing and four TDs on the ground. He hit six receivers en route to 11-for-16 passing, 240 yards and three TDs. Did I mention this was ALL BEFORE HALFTIME!! /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />
  7. Pud, Two "T"s in Watterson and Two "L"s in Phillips. Not meaning to nit-pick, just get tired of seeing this other places as well, like the Kingsport Times, i.e. the misspelling of the name that have been in paper several times. I know Mr. Throp understands (not Thorp). Thanks. Hope your Indians have a good remainder of the season. Going away again now. SatchUmp
  8. Compusatman, You know what, after pulling my head out of my butt a bit here , I think you were right earlier. The South squad does have 6 good wr's. After seeing bits and pieces of practices and games from previous years, I underestimated several players, and you know, that was wrong. I have been impressed with these boys on the field and off. If I was a college coach these are teh type young men I want in my program. These are very good group of young men who are being coached to be great men. Men of character. As far as the scrimmages go, I am sure it was difficult to get any kind of real guage from the Happy Valley scrimmage, but sometimes it can be good especially to allow younger players to feel that groove and know what it is like when they get there. Hopefully the entire Rebel squad will be there against a talented Science Hill squad. I am not the coach, so I am going to stop acting like I know what's going on and what is best for the team. I apologize for my negativity... and don't want to live there anymore. I have learned, that regardless of my perspective or opinions, I don't know what goes on day to day within a high school program. Noone does unless you are there, in locker room and the field, day in and out. So, forgive me all for being such an arse and showing such little patience. I can tell you this, I loved my old teammates when playing (still do), but I never played with such a good group of boys as this current Rebel squad as a whole. They are a TEAM. They want the man next to them to be just as good as they are and as good as they can be. I never really got that. I'll never bet against a TEAM. Also, a wise man once told me "Just be patient". With that said, so I can enjoy high school football completely, I intend to never post here again. I don't want to take anything away from the greatest game I know, high school football. I don't want anything as petty as this message board stuff taking anything away from me either. It has in the past, as allowed it to ###### me off. So, say what you want but color me gone.... and Go Rebels! P.S. High school players, quit reading this junk right now. Go do your homework!
  9. "Morristown East vs Science Hill" Hey Morristown East fans, be sure let us know what you think of the Hill, let us know how the scrimmage goes.
  10. Only a scrimmage, so yep. One of the other guys has a kid who plays at Happy Valley as well. I'll be sitting out Friday nights when South is playing for a few years.... But, hey, introduce yourself to me sometime....
  11. Falcon Faithful, Let us know how the scrimmage goes against Gate City. I don't read the Kingsport Times News, so I don't hear much about Southwest Virginia. I think you have Sullivan South at Volunteer next week for a scrimmage if i'm right...? I'm also used to the Falcon faithful being a bit more vocal on CoachT at this point...where's everybody? Do you need someone to stir things first? LOL! O.K. then, tell Irish that the columbia Blue and Grey jersey has been fitted and ordered for Trent for this coming roundball season... Just kidding.... great kid.
  12. Uhhh, if I can. I might be kinda busy at the scrimmage.... ask Comp...
  13. If I'm not mistaken, Sullivan North is within the 3A size in regards to enrollment as well. I was told at one time they were playing up also, being in Region I 4A. If a 3A conference is not created, I would not be surprised to see Sullivan North eventially drop in enrollment enought to play 2A. Thanks Kingsport for the Annexations! With the current planned annexations, mostly unwanted by the residents, in the Sullivan South area of Sullivan County, by the City of Kingsport, who knows, Sullivan South might be forced into a 3A slot a few years down the road. Thanks City, and the University of Kingsport!
  14. Just a kid. He's just excited. I still have a tape of being interviewed by Bob Haywood in high school. Talking about stupid comments! If I was his coach, I'd more upset if a kid said they hope to win 6 or 7. I also think head coaches need to talk to the players, ahead of time, and explain to the kids how to address the media. You know Coach Clark and Coach Carter do. But, let me get this right, since I did not hear or read the actual comment... TN High first, Maryville second, and then State? Hmmmm, might be good bulletin board fodor for the teams that he snubbed, huh? I guess the defending conference champs, Sullivan South will have already been put down by the Longhorns at that point in the season.... interesting. LOL!
  15. WOW! I enjoy your comments Volman. And even though I do not know who you are in the real world, hate to see you leave us here on coachT... if the Hill wins. I'm not saying I think the Hill will win... I try not to make predictions either way... There are some posters that are consistent, loved or hated, they add to the information that we get on our local high school football - Like you and Comp @ South, Skunk @ DB, Cap at....well you get it. One thing about Science Hill. I do believe they have a great deal more potential at the school than many others do. What are they, like one of the 5 or 6 largest high schools in Tennessee? I think they have the potential to turn around their reccent trend and to turn around their series with DB. It would take someone who could get 100+ kids out every year like Morristown West and others do. I think there are a great deal of athletes who walk the halls and don't play sports, due to bad attitudes or poor grades or lack of guidance in their personal lives. The Hill could be very, very good. Don't know if it has begun this season, but we'll know later. As far as the South vs Science Hill game goes, no doubt it will come down to the Corners... just my 2 cents. Anyway, I plan to be at the South scrimmage tonight, if you know who I am, yell at me.
  16. Well, I hope you're right about having 6 "catchers". I just don't know at this point and I've seen my share of high school games, enough to form an opinion (right or wrong). I've seen 1 consistent upperclassman catcher - I mean 1 with the ability to run a good route, get open, and catch the football. Right now, I think we have 1 WR on the field that clicks with Curt, that Curt trusts 100%....and 1 on the sideline. Since you asked me about the Hill, I think there are 2 of the 6 "catchers" that won't get open against the Hill - poor routes and lack of quickness. We have one feiry WR that shows glimpes of brilliance and then drops two in a row. Hoping he will step up like Jordan K did last season. And the last 1 hasn't been 100% since last year...he's playing both ways which I think is silly in his case. He's a very good corner that will knock the snot out of you, we don't need him at WR and I really think we need him at corner vs. the Hill. Comp, there were 8 dropped balls by the starting WRs at Gatlinburg Pittman that I counted. I didn't keep up with it when we went to 2nd team. The sophomore did drop one...wasn't thrown well but he probably still should have had it. I like the idea as well running some fly patterns. Earlier in the summer I know Coach C gave a green light to the sophomore and one of the seniors to go deep anytime a db cheats up on him... but now the soph is watching (?). Seems like a big drop from Green Light guy to Sideline Guy. I agree that he'll eventialy play, and I'm sure I should have just kept my mouth shut, but this opening game we will need our best options, best options for the team and best options for Curt, on the field. I can only remember two such fly patterns against Gatlinburg Pittman, but there could have been more. One went to an upperclassman who didn't have the next gear type speed to catch up to it... looked like it had plenty of air under it. And the other was a long TD to the sophomore, not that it looked like Young to Rice though. I know we have two "burners" that have around 4.5-4.6 speed, but I'm not sure who the third "burner" would be. I DO think each of these boys can play the game, and they are all fine young men, but it just looks to me some are out of position. I am also very pleased at the improvement we have made in respect to RBs catching the football. I just hope they do not try to spread carries out between all three RBs. I hate platoon systems. I feel we have one All-Conference RB, one rb who should be used to rest the first, and the third for some short yardage situations or to block for the first rb in short situations. BTW, no more broken feet or concusions! I also want to say how pleased I have been with the Inside LBs play. We graduated JD and Wingfield last season, both all-conference and one Def MVP. The question was asked in an earlier thread, who would fill their shoes. We have three excellent ILBs that won't allow things to drop off. Two are Juniors and one is a Sophomore (Collins, Fletcher, Garvin). I could honestly see all three being deserving of all-confernce honors at the end of the season. We should have a couple more ILB that will be solid as well. I would also like to see sophomore Clint Phillips run some DE and some TE. I think he's going to be bigger than Curt, but he's a different type player. Still, he's big, athletic, and quick. O-Line looks pretty good but we need Rasnick 100%. The transfer kid has looked good at Center, but so has Blanken. Blanken looked fantastic on Defense against GP as well, IMO. And as far as more on the Hill goes.... I know next to nothing. Haven't seen them in a couple of years. I do hope Coach C has seen them though, specifically their head coach's games last season. I know where there's some good film on Independence HS from last season, I trust Coach C does as well.....
  17. O.k help me out with scrimmage info....I'm dazzed and confused.... South has a scrimmage at home vs Happy Valley on Friday the 10th South scrimmage at Volunteer Wednesday the 15th. The MLC Jamboree is Thursday the 16th at South. Morristown East Cyclones at Science Hill on Friday at 6 (correct?) When and where do SH and Sullivan Central play? Thanks
  18. I was there to see the scrimmage as well. Personally, I thought the running game looked very good when they gave the ball to the right Junior RB, uh uh, I just mean RB. I completely dissagree with going into that other formation at the goalline so much. Sometimes that would be fine, sometimes it may be needed, but I feel like the horse that got 'em there will put in the endzone if you just give him the dang ball. Running game will be fine. I also hope Coach Carter will do what he has done in the past, making the correct decision to move younger players into starting skill positions. There's at least two or three sophomore that need to be on the field. Don't let the WR coach decide who he likes - I hate seeing all those dropped balls from seniors. Coach Carter made a tough call like the one that needs to be made two years ago when he started Phillips over a very good South QB, Jake Hicks. But Coach had the foresight to see what Curt would become and eventually mean to the South program. I do know which lone WR worked all summer with Curt and who was clicking with him during the summer. This sophomre WR got very little playing time at Gatlinburg despite his speed and track record in the past. What worries me is this really effects a younger players confidence when they get these mixed signals from coaches. I saw this many times with the idiot former basketball coach that left Colonial Heights Middle and went to King College. He nearly ruined several players and several transfered because of him. I hope things won't be this way at South. This same underclassman plays a great deal in 7 on 7 this summer and catches TDs against DB, Volunteer and Cloudland and then gets put on the sideline at GP as we really gear up for the season. Catches many many passes in practice this summer and makes moves to put it into the endzone. He got three balls thrown to him at GP by the backup QB. Didn't get time with Curt. I know Curt wants him on the field. The first pass at GP to the WR was not catchable because the GP dbs hit the WR across the middle extremely early, so early that fans of both teams were laughing about it. (For some reason local TSSAA officals don't work scrimmages down there. Whats up with that anyway ????). The second pass from the backup was way behind this WR almost hitting him in the back of the legs. He slowed his route and turned but couldn't make the catch. The third had some air under it, so it was caught for about a 40 yard TD. Please understand I'm not putting the backup qb down, because he is a player, a very good qb and would start almost anywhere else in NET. Just expressing my opinion that the wrong WRs may on the field, and against Science Hill db's speed is will show. Oh, and for the record, 5-1 touchdowns and another was whistled down. Phillips smoked everyone down the sideline on a run and was 20 yards gone when the GP coaches blew the whistle so as our 6'3" 215# QB wouldn't get hit. Noone between him and paydirt. Curt just stopped and smiled and went back to the huddle. That was #6 just for the record against a GP team that will certainly hit some 2A teams square in the mouth this year. I thought GP was 3A, but I read hear that they are 2A. In 2A going through Alcoa is like going through Maryville in 4A. Hope South and GP can both do ti this season, but that's a tall order and many games to be won just to see them in the playoffs. Good Luck to both teams.
  19. It's early to be counting chickens, but here's how things seem to be looking IMO now. Well, unfortunely, South's scrimmage on Friday against Volunteer will not tell us much about the Rebel pass offense. The Rebels will be without their top three WR's - two will be in Oak Ridge at the track & field Regionals and one is still playing baseball. Once the season rolls around, IMO, the Rebs will not drop off at WR compared to last year. Kaleb Kitzmiller will fill his older brother's spot, while rising Senior Houston Martin and rising sophomore Seth Watterson will take care of Fickey and Ringley's spots. Watterson has been making the transition from RB to WR. I'd expect to see backup QB Bradley Jeffers round out the 4-WR set. Jeffers is too good an athlete to just be staying loose as backup QB on the sidelines. QB Curt Phillips, as reported by Parrothead Vol on Tricitiessports.com, may not play on Friday either. Should another D1 coach roll in to Death Valley, Phillips may work a bit. A healthy RB Taylor Fletcher will be carrying the pigskin. The Rebels will be a better team than last year having a quick elusive RB to help balance the O out. Flether gives them that plus some. High expectations are expected from Fletcher. The O-line seems to be falling into place as well, as some kids work into some new postions. Big Hunter Beedle will be a leader on the O-line. Blake Rasnake will be healthy and ready for fall ball and will be a force on the line. TJ Blanken will contribute as well, regardless of his final position. Don't know all of the OL and DL names yet, but maybe someone else can elaborate. As far as replacing last year's LBs Dykes and Wingfield goes, they will certainly be missed as they were rocks in the middle. But, I'd look for hard hitting Chris Collins and a big contribution from rising sophomore Ty Garvin. Garvin has the strength, size and nose for finding the football that could make him a special player for the next three years. He'll eventually fill Dykes' shoes. Garvin may also add another big body to the OL at TE. There are other Rebs that will certainly not back down and will hit you in the middle, including rising Junior Jonathan Thomas. Rising Senior Morgan Edwards will also certainly be missed at DE. The Rebels will miss his fire, work ethic, and no quit attitude. Not sure who will step up at DE as of now.
  20. If you had paid attention you would have noticed CoachT had the Football forums closed temporarily before except to paying members, which I am not, so I could not respond to you before now. Fact is, you drug the South program into your little argument with kids at Science Hill. I realize this is your little way to entertain yourself and that's well and fine. Just keep in mind that you are often talking about people's kids, and not everyone is as diplomatic as Skunk or some others. Also, unlike you admitted before, I don't spend my time on here cutting quotes from people to use at some future point or digging back to see who said what. Who gives a crap. Gipper did confirm what he meant, as I understood from the beginning. Just because your fancy city education never taught you to read between the lines, you can't hold me accountable. As far as my good clothes go, let me worry about getting them dirty. Tell you what, since I know you know who Skunk is, why don't you ask him in the real world to introduce you to me. I think Skunk could give you some good advice in the matter. He knows me as well. Oh, and by the way, I still think your posts are cowardly and so are you. Just my opinion. Sorry if that bothers you so much.
  21. Yep. Don't like you. Think you're a punk. I would love a friendly discussion on any subject of your choosing. Just tell us who you are and we can make some formal arrangement.
  22. Mo-Ron of the day is a coward's little attempt to be cute and live in his little pretend world where he eventually anonymously bashs all the school age athletes in Northeast Tennessee, including the D-B teams and their coaches. It means nothing except to him. Frankly, I don't know why I waste my time with this little person. The Professor of Danceology is a line from a song by Buffett - The Desperation Samba (Halloween in Tijuana). Just a new adopted frame of mind I adopted while in Aruba. But, thanks for noticing, mikey. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  23. You just showed your stupidity and there is no way around it. Had you read the quote from Gipper and thought about it a bit, you little punk, you'd see that the Gipper was stating DB will not lose to South this next season for sure because THEY DON'T PLAY ANYMORE. Hahaha! That City school education did you little good. If they did still play, chances are, and history tells us, the injuns would probably win again. I'm not desputing that. But Gipper seemed to be a little tongue in cheek when he typed that, since we all know at this point they DO NOT PLAY in '08. I guess we cannot expect you to get it. I've never heard of this Gipper, and do not know him to be a South fan, but you were quick to label him so you could include South into your little argument with 16 year olds from Science Hill. Who knows, he could be a South fan for all I know. But, you don't know one way or the other. You seem to always find a way to throw South under the bus. Since you guys have won so much, why are you personally so jeolous and intent on putting it to these bunch of kids from South? Show a little class like Skunk does, Coward.
  24. I was able to be there. I sat right on the finish line. The sprints were close and pretty good hand times as well. Elizabethton is strong for sure. EHS seem deep also, as you said. Fuqua ran a very smooth 110H race. Dykes from Volunteer is a good hurdler as well, but seem to me that he stays in the air too long over the hurdles. Good athlete. McCann from South ran a good race and certainly can get it into the 15's. Sullivan South does have another hurdler who can get down to the low 15 sec mark, but he's a freshman and struggling a bit right now with stamina from all the jumping events before the hurdles. Question - Did they award EHS the win in the 4x100 Relay, because I sat right on the line and Crowe from Sullivan South clearly pulled ahead at the line. Honestly, clearly. The coaches doing the timing and the EHS parents at the line were even saying South pulled ahead. Either way, the 4x100 race for both EHS and SSHS could have been a great deal faster. All of South's handoffs were really bad, really slow. They could shave a huge amount off the time as well. Sounds like a good start in the blocks and EHS would be a good bit faster as well. Once Sullivan South's Curt Phillips learns how to use blocks, staying low and busting out of them, he will for sure be sub-11 sec.s in the 100M. It was dang impressive to see a 6'3" 220lb quarterback run Fugua down and win with a 11 second 100M. Wow! It seems to me that the Elizabethton boys team is very strong in distance and sprints. If you guys can develop some jumpers you could be even tougher. I know the high jump area at South leaves a lot to be desired, but it looked like you guys are behind on HJ and LJ. TJ was washed out due to a TJ pit that doesn't drain properly. The young man with the long hair from Sullivan Central was in a class by himself on HJ. He certainly will jump well over 6' on a good surface. It is good to see South's track greatly improved, especially the new surface on the running, LJ, TJ, and pole vault areas. But seems, noone gave any thought to high jump. You can't HJ off asphalt, uphill, with not enough approach area. Hmmm.? I did not see any of the throws. I'm sure the Betsy boys are after a A/AA state title, so work on those jumps. That's just my humble opinion. Nice meet guys.
