  1. Chase's 1st grade teacher was telling me during the game last Friday that she use to make him run sprints just to wear off some energy every now and then. She was really proud when it all started paying off when he caught those two good passes back to back in the 4th qrt. He's 16. H'ell grow up just fine. Has a good daddy.
  2. One of the coach said to me back before the season started that this is one of the most personally self-disciplined teams they have seen at Warren Co in some time. (Of course there have been a few bad apples over the previous few years - but some good one too.)
  3. Not to play on the backwoods superstitions of White Co or anything but did yall know they last 8 teams that played Warren Co went down in defeat the next week. Must be they were so beat up! (Or maybe so exhausted from all those 100 yard touchdown runs.)
  4. September 11, 1913 - Birthday of Paul "Bear" Bryant. Happy Birthday coach.
  5. Lincoln County Coffee County Cookeville (rats!) Tullahoma Collierville Giles County Brentwood (just to be different from everybody else somewhere) Alcoa
  6. Wow. That was a wonderful discussion. (a little sarcasm if you can't tell).
  7. Sparta was shut down after the QB was out last night. They could do no better than Warren Co offense.
  8. JJ helped Warren more than White. He threw an interception, fumbled, got a personal foul to get a long gain of White Co called back, got hisself sacked and generally did not help White Co much...except that Warren Co. always had to keep eyes on him because of the threat that he could burn you at any time. The #5 playing QB was the real key to White Co. Had he been in the second half the score could have been much worse. We all hope his hip is OK and that he will be back soon.
  9. Since I am 0-0 after last week I'll have to include the scores: Riverdale 24 LC 7 Coffee 23 Tullahoma 28 FC 13 Oakland 21 Lebanon 7 Cookeville 28 White 10 Warren 14 KDB 28 Oak Ridge boys 21 Melrose 28 CB 21 K-Fulton 14 Alcoa 28 Actually I really have no idea.
  10. Well you got that right! LC's #5 Ramsey was really good the first half. I heard his jaw was broke or maybe dislocated. The score could have been worse if he was playing in the second half. LC had one really good drive in the second half with 6 or seven first downs that wore down the better than expected Pioneer defense. That drive and a long pass play (60 yard or better) to the 1 was just about all there was to the 2nd half. WC defense did rather well I though but the offense has got to gel better to get some W's. LC made more mistakes than I expected them to make. The must have dropped 6 passes. The LC QB was very accurate. Bad call of the night was the intentional grounding against WC just before the half when WC was threatening to score. Called for intentional grounding when he scrambled out of the pocket and was about to be run out of bounds. Maybe the being out of the pocket rule doesn't apply to HS FBall but if it does that was a really bad call that took WC out of FG range. Congrates to LC.
  11. I remember when playing for JCM back in '78 going to Paris and upseting their perfect season 14-6. (No, We wern't wearing leather helment back then and yes, we had facemask on our helments.) I jump offisides twice but we won inspite of me being out there. Both teams ended up 9-1 but HC went to the playoffs and JCM went home. We blew it against Brownsville that year. Good to still its still a great match-up.
  12. If you take the average ratings from http://earlnall.com/ Prep Performance ratings then region 3 is NOT the weakest 5A region in the state. Region 7 with Bartlett, Memphis Central, Cordova and Memphis Overton would be the weakest. Region 8 would be the strongest using the average ratings. Without doing the math I would have thought region 2 would have been the best.
  13. Dixie Youth Baseball would be a good model for a great community based sports league without government run schools being involved. Good idea.
  14. Well, yeah. I'll bet you all are glad I'm not the judge.
  15. I vote Rebels - just to make the anti-rebels howl!
  16. And we could start the season a week later (not mid-august) or have the championship game over Thanksgiving weekend!
  17. Question: Did they spot the ball on the 20 afterwards? If so we may be on to something or need a rule change.
  18. Well, Yes. We are all sort of jelous. But for most of us its all in fun and not "HATE". Its sort of like that same thing as being glad when the NY Yankees loose or the New England Patriots or Miami Hurricanes go down to defeat. We all like to see the underdogs win every now and then and see the "dominate" team fall. That's part of the sports fan in all of us. High School football is great but I would like to see the level of competition be "leveled" a little bit. It's not good for the sport to have all these 0-10 teams and still have the Riverdales, Maryvilles, Alcoas, dominating everybody consistently. Don't ask me how to change it. If I was a Riverdale Warrior I wouldn't want to change a thing.
  19. I'm waiting for somebody to sing "Na Na Na Na Na"
  20. No. He was (they were) too fast to see. Didn't "light up" Warren Co. He was no where near Warren co players - that's why he got all those stinkin' yards!
  21. Can't you guess any closer than that? (Go ahead and tell us what the headline will be next week while your at it.) Very good guess.
  22. I'm pretty sure thats the rule in HS football. (Bad rule IMHO however.) Its a good idea to try a FG if a punt would not put the other team that much deeper anyway. On this end of Hwy 56 we didn't hear about the late cheap shot but heard about the kick then a retalatory swing (I saw the swing and not the kick...everybody else saw the kick and not the swing). WC got the short end of the stick in that deal..we'd rather they both stay in than out. Coffee Co was well coached I might add. WC seems to play better against better opponents.
  23. Yes Coffee Co deserved the win. They played really hard. Unfortunately this game went exactly as I had feared (but not as many points scored as I had thought)....WC trying to tackle by pushing the running back...making lots of needless penalties....relying on the QB scramble as the big plays...not much pass rush... incompletes on first down when the running game is working just great, etc, etc. Hard to blam this one on the refs. I think they did fairly well even though I didn't like what they had to call. Not so sure about the ejections though. I thought that came a little quick. They certainly hurt WC more than CC. WC was 0-3 on FG attempts but they were all very long attempts (due to penalties and the Coffee defense stepping up)....one was over 50 and the other two weren't much closer. WC ran the ball well but kept trying to get the short passing game estalished. I thought they could have run for 4 or 5 yrds up the middle all night...but passing and scrambling is fun to watch. It seems Coffee Co's best game every year is against Warren Co. Its starting to get to us. Off to the playoffs. Go Pioneers! Lets hang with Wilson Central till the fourth quarter and then see what happens!
