  1. Great Win MHS. Nothing like class and excution. Limited mistakes will allow the Rebs to run the table again this year. Congratz and good luck to the catz who might get another shot in the post season.
  2. All is right in the world and as things should be. Alcoa looked very good and for a great deal of the game looked like the better team at times. However the best teams don't make several key mistakes, turnovers, delay of games and ect.., Again Maryville did what it always does, stay patient, take what is given and wear down the opponet. Trade marks of the program. Can't beat a good team with mistakes unless you are a whole alot better. Alcoa is good but not good enough this year. MHS got beat deep as Rankin did a great job calling those two deep plays. GQ came right back just after the turn over with play action and made a key strike himself to put the game on ice. Congratz to both teams and good luck to Alcoa
  3. I am sad to see another HHS coach call it quits. My team is Maryville, but because of many friends and thier son's who have played for HHS I have always wished them well. I hope the board will take a look at some young blood and maybe seek a new coach who can speak to the student body over there to change the mind set. They have many kids over there with great size who won't go out for the team because of a poor attitude, lack pride and just are not intrested in working hard. The school board of good ole' boys/griles are just not intrested is supporting county winning programs, just look at William Blount. Revolving door in the head coaching office and parents who simply care very little has allowed a culture of losing to stay way to long. I hope the board will find a young head coach, a fresh face and put out the money to go get and proven experienced O&D coordinators, and not be afraid to drop a little money on them to attract & retain them.
  4. And if you had to read & Listening to that ditribe for 12 years or better it might take a little time to move on. Even when MHS was playing for or defending the 4A SC's all during the 2000's and even at times now, everyone has bigger, better, faster and more athletic teams than Maryville had/has. Well what good is all of that hype if you can't win? My point is and was Maryville again has run the table vs. the teams around the Knoxville area who clammered for MHS to step up. Now after three years with the so called "Big Boys" the Maryville record is not much different than it was at 4A. Will it stay that way, no one knows. For now I think MHS has a arrived and LC will be the last regular season W of the 2011 season.
  5. MHS will soundly beat LC. LC is improved but beating FHS is no measure stick to go by this year. Maryville marks another un-beaten season. Gee playing with them so called "Big" boys for what three years now, without a single loss from one of them, so called big boys, is another accomplishment as well. Go Rebs!!
  6. LMBO! If West "drastically improve themselves much more than everyone else". Then why do they seem to fall short in the post season? Bet 9-1 will be a strech as well. Maybe 7-3 tops. Good luck
  7. Maryville will hang 40 on West this year. West does have a quality QB, but may not have the time to throw it more than 10 yards and they won't have enough yards on the ground to move the ball. GQ really did not throw the skin much vs. alcoa, did not have too, but really did not show anything there. Thing I would like to see improve for MHS is Kick coverage and LB's stepping up and plugging the holes. The LB's seemed to play off the line on Alcoa and that allowed more yards up the middle than previous Jimmy G teams IMHO. MHS did not punt but that kick off run back was a mess. I expect GQ and Co. got that fixed this week. 42-10 MHS
  8. Agree, I'm behind as well but here now. Thanks Stars
  9. Just checking in and look forward to a great season. Stay humble, focused and committed as so many other former Rebels have and nothing but good can come from it. I wonder what time I need to be at Alcoa this year to get my normal 45 yard line seat?
  10. I am not a hater my friend but a person of facts. 1st I agree it takes two to make a pair and secondly until Maryville got out of the way in 4A Greenville did not even get a sniff of a gold ball. Check the last few times GHS got west of Morristown in previous years. Enjoy being a state championship winner but there might have been two teams here in Blount Co who would have cleaned Greenvilles plow this year.
  11. That is the case around America my friend. Should a school employee quit and 280 days later stop getting paid. In the real world you quit your job your pay stops the day you leave, not a year later. If you ever get a look at how much some of these school adminstrators get paid, your mouth will drop. Americas schools, and very much our local ones are no different, it is all about the admin and teachers then last is the students. Heck the Maryville city building and water treatment plant is nicer than most of the schools in the city. Anyway if WB and HHS's boosters want to win they will put up the cash for coaches, because the county won't.
  12. Lots of people don't like Maryville. Now that "The Program" has proven it can play with the "Big Boys" many are frustrated. Maryville lost last year in the State game and it was not enough for them. I guess those kind of posters won't be happy until Maryville is like 4-6 or something. Doubt that will happen anytime soon. The fans and program are easy targets for hate on these type of boards. And yes the thread should have stayed on subject, Maryville over Smyrna in a close one. Could have gone ether way IMHO. I do think the best team won but Smyrna has nothing to hang thier heads about. They had a great season. Clearly two of the best teams in the state. It was a good game and one for the books.
  13. So I'm a hater because I said Alcoa was not challenged or faced adversity in the past few years? OK Fact guy. I give. Alcoa playes the toughest and best in the country! Is that what you think? Then think it. Good luck thinking Alcoa is the best in the state, who really cares. Most will not agree with you there Jack. By the way good luck getting GQ to agree with you.
  14. Thanks. No I did not have Ferguson, but my sons did. A great deal of talk about who did not play is getting old. Heck if I had played Maryville would have won 60-0! But on the other hand I’m too old. I sure never would have called some of the plays Smyrna’s staff did. I mean come on, injury is always a factor. I agree the officials were not the best for sure. I watched the TEVO’s broadcast and Dyson and that other clown ruined a good historical DVD bound for my library. Why can’t the T$$AA get a real broadcast crew. You see this ineptness year after year. Same ole’ song and dance, Maryville had the easy road to the game, lesser athletes, weaker region, yadda, yadda, yadda. Check the facts 4 of 6 Gold Balls are East of the Blount county line, there sport. It does not matter who did not play, it mattered who did. Stepping up when your team needs you is an opportunity to excel. The young men who did step in for both teams did a great job. Tough assignment to replace a starter in a State Championship at the 6A level with all the pressure of not letting your team down. Those kids deserve a great deal of respect for giving it their all. Depth on a team is always a good thing.
  15. This time of year, of course I biased but Maryville, Smyrna or Alcoa then the rest. Greenville? Oakridge, Riverdale? One cannot assume Alcoa would beat Maryville this time of year. The reason, after the MHS vs. AHS game, the first of the year for Maryville, Alcoa plays cream puffs. What forces them to improve? Alcoa is never behind or even in a close game at the half. Never challenged to face adversity. Being challenged and facing adversity is what marks a true champion and top football program. Not all Alcoa's fault the rest of the teams have to step up, CAK is trying but not there yet, but as it is now after the Maryville game Alcoa Cake walks to the gold ball. Check the facts and record yourself the past 5-6 years. If Alcoa had a tough schedule it might not be so. Threads like this are silly because there is no way to know what might happen. I said my piece so bring the hate.
  16. Let me say I am very proud of the Rebels for being hardnosed, bendable but unbreakable, and being a tenacious defense. Marks of what you are, a real champion. Maryville has proven all the haters wrong, they can play with the big boys. In fact they are again on top with a young team. Let me also say Smyrna is wounded we all know but you are a very good football team. It does happen when a great team makes a mistake or two at the wrong time vs. another great team it becomes costly. One series and one badly called play cost Smyrna the game as things turned out in this one. Make no mistake overall the Rebels were the best team top to bottom on the field last night IMHO, but the game could have gone to Smyrna as they played championship football too. First starting over 50 yards away from the end zone with around 1:22 left in the half, you should never, never throw to the flats! Period. With 1:22 with a tied ball game you go into the locker room satisfied. Smyrna should have used that great RB #5 and tried to get into field goal range or even broken another one for a score, but you don’t throw to the flats deep in your end. Smyrna threw right at one the best CB’s for MHS the past several years and bingo, Maryville ball. Bad play calling and poor execution cost Smyrna. Give GQ the short field and most of the time it will cost you points. 7 points, the lead and a shift in the momentum at halftime is what it cost. Second, being on your one yard line your QB needs to sneak it or at least call a dive play. A one or two step drop to a hand off is not a play you call on your own one yard line. The mistake cost two points, ball possession and the momentum. Only a fumble buy a back up QB stopped Maryville from making it 9 points. Had Robinett stayed in the game Maryville would have put up 14 to 21 more points as Smyrna had no answer to that kid’s tools and ability. Smyrna got some yards but very few of them came easy. Future star Freshman S. Prevo was nearly as good as #5 for Smyrna, jut give him another year under GQ. But he will get three more so look out. I also think the MVP was the Maryville punter! Not taking anything away from any other player but keeping a great running team like Smyrna starting in their own end all night also helped Maryville win the game. Field position is huge in the big games vs. the better teams. I am proud of my Maryville Rebels for many reasons not just because you are the 6A champions but because you are the standard by which all teams strive to become, achieve and accomplish. Maryville, you are Champions and right back where you belong.
  17. Hey thanks! Now that maryville has moved out of the way you guys can win one! I hope Greenville holds. East Tn All the way. Sent From My Verizon Blackberry
  18. I been away from the computer a few days but I am getting real excited to watch the MHS vs. SHS 6A state championship. Looking at many of the posts it seems some want to turn the thread into an Alcoa vs. the world thing or my coach is better than your coach discussion. The Alcoa vs. GP game must look boring to them like it does to me. The T$$AA should go ahead and engrave Alcoa’s name on the ball now to save time. This thread is about Maryville and Smyrna, two very good football teams. Maybe the two best in the state right now, who really knows? Both teams have been challenged during the play-offs and have endured to be in the 6A game. Smyrna won a tough one to get to the game where Maryville “Just got by†(Oakridge) as one of the local fish wraps printed this week. The game could have been closer but you can’t turn the ball over vs. a good team and survive too many times. I know Smyrna has two outstanding offensive players Maryville will have to keep in check, quarterback Steve Wilson and running back Jeremiah Bryson. Smyrna passes well and runs well, so they are not one sided. But if they turn the ball over in INT's like they did in the qtr finals it will hurt them vs. Maryville. They will also have to score some points because Maryville will. If Maryville keeps RB Bryson & Thompson inside and forces Wilson to put the ball in the air more than 25 times MHS will win the game. IMHO the MHS Defense at this time of the season is as good as Smyrna's is so I expect a game score of 34-20, Maryville!
  19. This was for the most part a great thread thread until an idiot like yourself chimed in. Your post has nothing to do with the subject. There are some great posts in this thread by Govman and Jake several others. I too wish WBHS and HHS would get on track but playing Alcoa is not what will do it. Take the WBHS and HHS students off the Alcoa roster then maybe the game would mean something beyond the box-office. I don't think the reason to stop playing Alcoa was because of any cowardness but rather the lack of crowd and player discipline that Alcoa displayed post Rankin. Being afraid of Alcoa is just a stupid thought. In my opinion there are three main points that stop WBHS & HHS from becoming more competitive. #1 Discipline. By the players and supporters/so-called fans & parents. The kids have got to want to play sucessful football more than "hanging" with losers who look at school as a place to destroy, disrupt and see who has the neatest new tat or nose ring. Winning football takes mental discipline more than athletic ability. I know this is a tall order on the day these days but do you wanna win or not? #2 School Board needs to look at successful football as a goal, not just fielding a team because everyone else is doing it. The board needs to belly up and hire successful coaches, not just head coaches but position coaches as well. The good ole' local boys will not simply get it done all of the time. Rankin and Quarles and most of the key staff are not from Blount County. The programs need special attention at this point and men who know how to coach but also know how to bring in a winning culture and mindset to the schools. Those kinds of Coaches will also expect and bring in the needed discipline and not care whose kid is whose. These kinds of men cost money and a long term arraignment that the county may not be interested or willing to commit too. #Fan and community support. Support the coaches and kids. Heck there used to be a pee-wee coach who promoted out ward verbal hatred for Maryville to his players. This kind of stuff won’t make your WB bound future players competitive. If a local school has a championship program around you want your kids to be like it but be loyal enough to not join it. Many parents of county kids don’t want their kids anywhere near WBHS & HHS’s programs because of #1 and the lack of winning culture. Breaking the cellar dweller mindset is a huge problem and I know it will take more than my three points and opinions. I do wish the programs luck and hope for the best for them.
  20. Could have never said it better than that! Maybe lose sometimes but never "Letting someone else win." Great season Rebels but still have some work to do.
  21. Well with Maryville there are no "Tendencies" they adjust well to what the opponent’s defense yields. Everyone, even Maryville has a weakness or two. GQ and company are very good at making adjustments and sound fundamentals allow for it. Solid fundamentals always makes up for bigger and faster at the HS level most of the time. If Maryville protects the skin while in possession of it they will be competitive with anyone, on the ground and in the air. Most of the time Special teams are a plus for Maryville they always do that very well and field position is everything in the big games vs. a quality opponent like Smyrna.
  22. Well Sir, what I meant was Alcoa will be in the End zone alot Friday night and GP won't have much to say about it. CAK I agree may have been an intersting match up depending on what part of the season your talking about. Of all the coaching accolades GQ & Company get they always seem to get the Reb's peaked at the right time. Last night was a bit sloppy but OR was no pushover. After last night I hope that was the one bad play-off game they normally have a season. Always seems to be one for Maryville during the post season. But this thread is about your Tornados and I am not even a bit surprised they are in the title game. The score 52-14 maybe.
  23. Past 13 years for sure has to be Maryville on top then the rest. Past two years at 6A, Nike sponsered and reconized by the USA Today top 25 several times the past 7 years. No one else can say that among the public schools in Tennessee. I don't count the private schools for several reasons.
