  1. What a great story of a school that is climbing the ladder. I read that your team is in the top ten in the Tennessean for midstate. I look forward to watching you again Friday night. http://news.tennessean.com/hs03/site/tenne...=y&storyid=4533
  2. Good luck to both teams in this matchup. I am leaning toward Greenbrier because I have seen them play some tough games, and win. I think you will find that they are tougher than the quoted post is giving them credit for. I'm sure AE and Crockett fans understandably are having a hard time accepting their first defeat of the year, and being stopped from going for the championship. I don't know the poster that is referred to from having "no class" but I have read some of his posts. Arrogance does not seem to run rampant in Greenbrier but I guess every school has one or two, and kids will be kids. Good luck to both teams. You've both got to be good to make it to this point.
  3. This will be my third trip to Greenbrier just to watch a good team play. No connections, kids or ties. They are fun to watch and the fans really get into the game.
  4. TSSAA rules. Regions alternate years on who will have homefield advantage. This year is Region 5's year. Last was Region 6's which was played in CC. Both Greenbrier and CC are #1 seeds in their Region and both have won thus far.
  5. Not football related, but rather than "who's the BEST" at everything under the sun, just wondering. Who here just can't help themselves? Gotta check out what's been said about your team? Will you need a twelve-step CoachT withdrawl program in three weeks? There is HELP....move onto the Basketball boards. If you dare to admit it, do YOU post and read CoachT while on the timeclock?
  6. Haven't I read on the boards here that Sycamore's QB was hurt in the last game against Greenbrier? Having played football for many years, that kind of thing stays with a QB and can make him throw the ball a little more hastily. It is not an easy thing to stand there and take another hit from a team you were hurt by because you don't want to have to come out of the game again. Sycamore may have the revenge factor in their game. Trying to get revenge makes you do stupid things and stupid things equal penalties. I've seen Greenbrier play White House, Page and McNairy. What I have seen in these three games is that Greenbrier has become VERY disciplined and mistake free. I don't think I even saw a handful of penalties against McNairy. How many was there? Maybe two or three? Not taking anything away from Sycamore, Greenbrier is #1 in the region for a reason. They have talent that overcomes. I just can't see that talent fading in the next few weeks. I think they will be one of the last teams standing. Good luck Bobcats.
  7. Although I don't look forward to being on I-65N, this is a game I don't want to miss tonight. I'm looking forward to watching Greenbrier again. They are a all-around team and I'm counting on a win for them tonight. Herdon should add another 100+ and maybe closer to 200 yards to his rushing record tonight. I'm headed that way! Good luck Greenbrier!
  8. From what I've seen, if you think Greenbrier will lay down, I think you are mistaken. Their defense is only getting stronger by the week and I am sure they will play Marshall County with fire in their hearts, and their eyes on the prize.
  9. From what I've seen, Coach Fulmer would be smart to recruit him. Am always watching or at Coach's show, and will be looking for Herndon and the Bobcats then. Congrats on the recognition.
  10. Greenbrier is obviously the underdog. Yes, the story is about Page and is nothing that Greebrier probably doesn't know, but any underdog wants to be the victor.
  11. Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | Middle Tennessee Sports News and Information -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page singing a different tune By JEFF LOCKRIDGE Staff Writer FRANKLIN — Any hope the Page High football team had of winning a choir competition probably went out the window earlier this week when players sung the school fight song after practice. It was hard to tell who had a good voice. It was easy to tell who did not. ''Hands down, I'm the best,'' said junior defensive end Jeremy Leach, a self-proclaimed alto. ''We've been practicing harder, so the coaches want us to have some fun at the end of practice,'' senior linebacker Michael Motley said. ''So we sing.'' While the Patriots (6-1, 3-0 in Region 5-3A) may not be able to carry a tune, they will carry six consecutive wins into their home stadium tomorrow night when they play host to Greenbrier (4-3, 3-0). Ever so quietly, Page has put itself in position to claim its first region title in four years and emerge as a state contender with another victory. ''I would love to brag on this team, but I'm not going to do that after we win a game 20-19,'' Page Coach Jackie Bennett said. ''We've had big leads in the first half and we have the talent to put games away. We just don't. ''But I will say this about them. This team has great heart.'' Page pounced all over region foes Marshall County and Sycamore in the early going, building leads of 20 and 17 points, respectively. The end results were much closer. The Patriots believe these nip-and-tuck wins have prevented them from garnering the respect they covet. Now they have to earn it from an opponent that manhandled them last year in what Page coaches called an embarrassment. ''We're only beating teams by one or two points, but we're going into halftime up 20,'' Page senior quarterback Jared Elliott said. ''It's all on the seniors to step it up and start playing four quarters. ''This group has never experienced a winning season (4-6 and 5-6 the last two years), so it would be something special for us to win the region.'' Both teams know exactly what to expect tomorrow. Greenbrier Coach Kirk Williams' relentless defense is allowing only 10 points a game in region play. Page is giving up 14. Greenbrier tailback Roger Herndon is a workhorse and will draw the focus of Page linebackers all night, while the Bobcats must keep a close eye on Patriots tailback Josh McMurray. Whichever defense can wrap up the best and limit big plays in the running game will earn its team the win. ''It's going to come down to turnovers and whoever has the strongest defense,'' Motley said. ''If our defensive line does what it's supposed to do, then the rest of us should be able to keep up with Herndon.''
  12. Good news of your win, Greenbrier! Comin' on Strong! I live near Franklin, and am hoping to get to Page next Friday to see what should be a great game.
  13. Got friends that I visit and they live in Maryville. Boy, THAT town is beautiful but they are ABOUT football. Just out of curiosity, when was Maryville's last loss?
  14. Was reading today's sports page of a Robertson County paper a co-worker left on a breakroom table this morning, and was very impressed with all the times that read "Greenbrier golfers win region", "Greenbrier Muscle past MC" or "Greenbrier (Jr Pro) sweeps...." and all age groups are 6-0? I am not a resident of the town or county, but I write this because I attended a game there a couple of weeks ago. Getting there early under the advice of some, I was surprised that this small town had such a strong high school team that nearly pulled out a game in a rivalry I've heard about. If their Jr. Pro's are sweeping everyone now, I can only imagine what is yet to come. It is interesting to read about little schools that do big things. I just wanted to say, I am impressed, Greenbrier. Good luck.
  15. Ok. After talking to a coworker, my curiousity is spiked. What are the quickest driving directions from Nashville to the game? Coach, I've come across several of your post and almost all mention Herndon. It's great to be a coach but an even more fun when you coach your son. You must be a proud father. What college is he looking at? Who are the other good players to watch on both sides tonight? Thanks to anyone who will give directions.
  16. I've heard about this streak and am interesting in knowing the outcome. However after following school stats, and knowing a little about how these things go, it could very cumbersome to the White House team this year. A mix of feeling a little struggle, but assuming way before the game that beating Greenbrier is "a given" can be a bad recipe. Reflect on what the Titans just went through with the Colts. Taking a win a little too much for granted is what gets you beat. And from what I hear about stats for the Greenbrier team, determination may be their driving force. It would be an interesting game to watch.
  17. I know I'm new to the boards and am not here to "start anything" but when I read a post by someone who seems to be fairly intelligent, I have a tendancy to go back and see what they have to say on other posts to get more of an insight into their team or their view. What I have noticed is there are many people here that I'm sure are parents, but they seem more like agents trying to "sell" their kid to get a college's attention. Even some that are what I assume is a coach going on about only one or two players....? Isn't there anyone else on the team? I know from playing and coaching that when one player gets all the credit, it begins to turn into resentment toward him in what is supposed to be a team effort. That can kill a team quicker than defeat. If the player is truly GOOD, his stats in the paper will show that and a scout will check him out. T.
  18. Slim, I agree with some of what you have said, but there needs to be a uniform template set at these games. For example, the fans of Team A are going to play a game at Team B's stadium Team A's fans are charged to pay to park, but NEXT week, Team B comes to play at Team A's field and no one is charged to park. Is this fair for Team B's clubs, ROTC, etc, to be funded by Team A's fans and not vice versa? On the other hand, if a team can draw 200 more people because there is only a Gate charge, will that same fan possibly not give up a little more at the concession stand or for a program? If you have to pay for parking before you even get out of the car, if anyone else is like me, I am already thinking about how much money I have left in my pocket for concessions or extra's like t-shirts, etc that will fund some other club of the school. As far as everyone griping and doing nothing, you MAY be right. But I think you will find that most of the parents here have spent their most valuable asset, their time, doing a little something here or there for their kids and whatever activities they are involved in whether it is taking other players home from practice or buying stadium seats, t-shirts, season passes, etc. I have many friends who along with myself have stood over a grill cooking hamburgers, working the concession stands for my kids teams as well as doing whatever it takes for Tiger, Cub and Boy Scouts as they grow. I don't think there's anyone here that truly can't afford $1 for parking, but a request for a donation would be much nicer than someone telling us we have to pay to watch our own sons play when we are not used to doing so at our own field.
  19. Could I borrow your soapbox? If we are to pay for parking at high school football games, why is it that we don't pay for parking at the baseball or soccer games? Aren't there umps and refs for those that have to get paid? I was under the impression that they got paid from fees (paid by the schools) to TSSAA? Of course then, there ARE times when I think the winning team may be chipping in. You know it's not the $5.00 at the gate that gets me, except when a five year old that cares nothing about the game but HAD to come with the parent gets charged adult price too. IF we are going to charge to park (for whatever club) then why not set a staggered price on admissions...like $5 for adults and high school students, and $3 for kids under 10? I realize it would be hard to verify ages, but most people are generally honest about those things. Just think, as it is now it cost $25 for a couple to take three children to a ballgame. That MAY be why attendance is low at some gates. And as far as writing a check to a booster club, have you paid for football gear lately? By the time that check is written, I am a BOOSTER. Here's your soapbox...thanks.
  20. Had to check TWO channels to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. It's very unusual to see White House with the lower score at the final.
