  1. Bolton not only lost their head coach, but also Defensive Coordinator Dan Holcomb is now with Germantown. His defense was a huge reason Bolton did as well as it had in recent years. Looks like a tough year for the Wildcats.
  2. I really want to know why the Bolton position is listed as filled... I can't find anyone that knows who the new coach is or if they have even found one yet.
  3. everybody knows that memphis football and the rest of the state don't have a lot in common. rankin is a great coach and his ties lie within the area he is in. memphis football has it's own subculture, it's a totally different style of doing things, from the ground up. i don't think that rankin and memphis would fit well together.
  4. You mean every opening outside of Memphis.. he wouldn't dare come here and memphis wouldn't want him
  5. Hey Opperman.. I thought that I was the best thing the ever happened to Bolton football.... haha.. just playin... let me know how y'all's spring practice goes.
  6. Check out the article in the Commercial Appeal. http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/prep_s...3575153,00.html
  7. At Central he has nowhere to go but up, and it'll be interesting to see what a new coach at Bolton does to the program. (Good catch on the 7-5A, everyone is in basketball and baseball mode)
  8. Actually, Tom loves to rebuild programs. That's why he took the Bolton job in the first place, to rebuild it after 6 years of mediocracy (if that). He lives in the Central district, and is looking forward to the chance to invigorate the program with some of the swagger that jump started Bolton's rise 4 years ago. Also, Doc Carruthers, Bolton's long time principal and a strong supporter of NeSmith will retire after this year to. No news on who the new Bolton coach will be yet, but it will be interesting to see who takes the lead of this team now.
  9. I know of two major coaching changes in Memphis in the past week. Hugh Freeze (BRIARCREST)- will be joining Ole Miss's staff. Tom NeSmith (BOLTON)- will become the new head coach at Central.
  10. Q: Which TN high school has 5 players in the NFL (second most in the country behind Long Beach Poly)? A: MELROSE p.s.- No other TN high school has four, and I'm not sure if any have three. Also, Memphis lists 10th in the country in cities with most NFL products with 11 (Thirteen if you count Germantown as part of the Metro Area... which I do).
  11. I played in Memphis against Memphis and West TN opponents, and in the past two years have seen several games in middle and east TN. The West isn't weak in 5-A, 4-A, or D-2, but the lower classification teams, especially in the city are suffering from the poor funding that is hurting the entire school system. But besides Maryville and Riverdale I haven't seen tougher competition than the West. Equal, but not tougher. I'm still dreaming of the day that playoff games involve more cross state match-ups instead of playing the same people in the first three rounds every year. This would be the only way to gauge the tougher regions overall, instead of the who has the top teams. By the way, the D-2 programs in Memphis more than make up for the weakness elsewhere in the West.
  12. I'm lookin for the rosters for the Shelby County Senior All-Star game. Any help would be appreciated.
  13. Houston - Millington games hinges on which Houston defense shows up. They should be able to stop the Millington ground game and get a win, but if their defense isn't there Millington will pull it out.
  14. Any of the West TN 5-A games... all could go either way.. except probably Collierville-Bartlett
  15. Bolton's non-region games were Houston, Brighton, Munford, Harding, and Kirby. Bartlett's non-region was Houston, Harding, Haywood, White Station, and JCM. You make the call

    5A Finals

On the off chance that this happens I'm gonna go ahead and call it... DB over Bolton
  17. Blue Angel... anyone remind you Germantown is having an off year.. they might win one... at most two playoff games, but there is no way they repeat a trip to the finals.
  18. FYI: Not that anybody will pay attention to this, but Justin Sparks(Briarcrest) is listed as the #13 kicker in the nation by Unapproved Website, the only one listed from the state and has committed to Ole Miss. But no one cares about Memphis, even though some of the best kickers in the SEC in the past few years have come from there. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
  19. Makes a lot of sense to make the regions more competitive and less top-heavy in eight to move White Station who though far away has a rivalry with Bolton, and will give Overton a chance to play Kirby and Hamilton for region victories. Would have been better if Overton and Central hadn't stayed in 5-A, allowing for the regions to have 7 and 8 teams, instead ot 8 and 9 once Arlington joins in two years.
  20. I say they move White Station to region 7 and Overton to region 8. Add Craigmont to region 7 and Woodale and Ridgeway(Ridgeway is a natural rival for Germantown) to region 8 Gives Region 8 nine for now, but Arlington will move to region 7 in two years making the regions 8 and 9 respectively. (or keep Overton in region 7).
  21. Brighton attempted a free kick against Bolton in 2001 at the end of regulation. Missed the 53 yd. kick, but eventually won in 2OT.

    Bolton

Starting QB gets suspended late Thursday, back-up goes 0-4. Cordova's already good defense loads up against the run... Bolton walked in there with very little chance to win this game. Cordova screws us again.
  23. I agree that region 7 is the weakest... but there is no way that top to bottom region 8 is next to last... at least top three or four.

    Bolton

The RB's are well above average. Hayslett is a fast freight train, Guffin and Jones are small and quick on the outside. Qb is good, but has little to throw to this year besides his TE. Defensive Line and Linebackers are some of the best I've seen. Secondary is decent but untested. Kicker is good, punter is not. The thing about Houston/Bolton seems to be the underdog wins the game (or has the last three years). But that's because Bolton plays a lesser schedule and these two teams are about even while Bolton shouldn't lose another game this year (unless Cordova hangs one on them).
