  1. Collinwood vs Houston County ended up being a shootout and fun to watch for the majority of the game. Actually Collinwood's boys play Fayetteville on Monday, the girls play NCS. Regardless should be a good game with Fayetteville.
  2. Rossville is staying in DII and there was never any discussion about FA moving to DI. The truth is that neither of those schools offer financial aid (like JCS who is moving back to DI) so it makes sense for them to not want to be in a league where everyone else is playing by a different set of rules than them. I wouldn't blame them for playing DI.
  3. If I was going to push a St. George guard for this award it wouldn't be Alex Bran, but rather Alec Mulvihill. Mulvihill was a key contributor two years ago on the state championship team. He is much more consistent than Bran; just doesn't make the jaw-dropping, athletic plays. He actually leads the team in scoring this year at about 19 PPG.
  4. After the first round through the district how are things shaping up across the state in both regions?
  5. USJ. Glover is just too tough.
  6. Bishop Byrne lost Brandon Strickland (who scored about 25 a game) but do bring back some scrappy, athletic players that work hard on the offensive glass and will win some games. You didn't mention Catholic who also lost a couple of key players last year. They do bring back some major contributors to a team that upset ECS last year. You also left out SBEC who came on very strong at the end of last season and just got a bad draw of having to face ECS in the 2nd round. They lost their best perimeter player but still have a good "big" in Paxton and some great athletes that are still in football right now. ECS will still be very good. Those guys got a lot of experience last year in 2 or 3 minute spans with Coach Tippett rotating in waves. The tall freshman is much improved and they have another big guy that I do not think was on the team last year who is probably their best player. FACS did graduate a few players from last year, including Robbins, who was their best player. I have heard they "found" a 6'10" freshman but haven't seen him play. They bring back a couple of very good sophomores and the monster Smith who improved alot over the summer. I think you are dead-on about Harding. Bring back some good players and are always well-coached (like most teams in this division). They could definitely compete for the Region title. Lausanne is always a wild card, but this year they are probably the favorite to win the division. They are loaded with talent but I did hear that the "big" is no longer at the school. Wooten and Payne can play. On the other side: Rossville lost Ambeau but bring back the rest of their team. Should have some experience so it will be interesting to see how they handle the loss of such a key player. I'm not sure the "big" for Rossville that you were talking about unless you mean Auston White, who is probably more of a wing. You may be talking about Moody from TRA or Moffatt from FA. Tipton-Rosemark brings back a plethera of experienced players in Seniors Moody, Sansom, Barnes, and Alexander. They do have to replace their big kid from last year and have a new coach. Fayette Academy still has Moffatt, along with a number of good experienced players in Miller, Shemwell, and the sophomore Bowling. They showed alot of improvement last year and look to build on that. USJ will have Mr. Basketball John Ross Glover but did lose Miller. Look for Winslow to have a big season from the perimeter when people double down on Glover. JCS lost just about every key contributor from the run to state a year ago. Rumor has it that Bowles and Mayberry are not going to play this season either. Regardless, Coach Johnson has a solid program and always finds a way to put a good team on the floor. St. George's may be the favorite to win the entire region. They did lose a great player in Cooper Green but also bring in the big kid from Manassas that you mentioned, and still have Alex Bran (the kid from FL that you mentioned) and Muhvihill, who played a key part in the state title run two years ago.
  7. I don't think they need to split to 3 divisions. There is already not enough teams in these classifications anyways, with AA having only 12 teams in football and A having 22 teams in football. If you split this to 3 divisions, then there would just be 3 very small divisions where the district basically makes up the entire state. I think that they should lower the enrollment line enough to move up schools like ECS and Webb, then possibly USJ, St. George's, or FRA (I don't really know which of the other schools are bigger). Move up about 4 of those teams and get the balance to about 16 in AA and 18 in A.
  8. ECS and Webb don't seem to be better, they are better year in and year out. You could add a couple more schools to that list as well like your aforementioned St. George's. True SBEC beat ECS this year, but the Trojans just happen to have a couple of extraordinary players right now, that success won't be annual. The fact is that these schools are better is because they have more students, which means more male students, to choose from. They also offer financial aid, which brings in even more players. So let me get this right, you are saying that they are better just because they schedule CBHS and Briarcrest during the season? Based on that argument, do you think that Tipton-Rosemark, Bishop Byrne, and Rossville should go out and schedule MUS and Whitehaven? They wouldn't even be able to finish their season if they scheduled schools like that. Rosemark had to schedule Middleton just to win a game, and don't say that the numbers don't make a difference when TRA goes out every week with approximately 23 players. Bishop Byrne isn't much better, but yet you think they need to schedule harder. I think it is ridiculous that the supporters of the schools like ECS, St. George's, and Webb don't realize how unfair it is for schools with only 75 to 100 boys in their ENTIRE high school to have to play against schools with numbers 3X that. So maybe ECS and Webb would be a lower tier team in AA? Based on your philosophy, it should only take a couple years for them to be at the top since then they will get to play against top teams every week, instead of having games on the schedule against schools that can barely field a team. On the other hand, maybe then they will learn how Bishop Byrne and Tipton-Rosemark feel every single week. Don't try and tell me that it is equal right now because St. George's and SBEC pulled off some wins. I want you to explain to me how it is fair for Bishop Byrne or Tipton-Rosemark or Rossville to have to play against ECS and Knoxville Webb.
  9. Does anyone have any insight on the teams from the West? I noticed this entire thread has shifted to the East/Middle teams.
  10. Give LC their props? I think that in my post I said, "LC is very talented" and LC is a very good football team". What would you call that? I never once took anything away from the Lake County FOOTBALL TEAM! I simply said that some of their fans continue to complain about penalties and turnovers. Maybe you should take a break and learn to read before you continue to make posts. I'm sure your not tired yet; you haven't done anything. It sounds to me like your the one that is talking trash about other teams. I'm talking about the fans, not the team. Good luck to the Falcon players tomorrow night against JCS.
  11. Well the scoreboard is where it counts and I believe I only heard one FA fan mention the injury to #20 before I said something about it in this thread.
  12. Haha, I actually saw neither game. I did go to the Lake Co. game but mostly to see the running back #20. When he got hurt in the first quarter, I didn't hang around much longer. Thats the only time I saw FA all year so... I saw some Division II games in Memphis if you are curious about that.............No? Oh well. You should try asking a true Viking fan like AC$. He'd probably have a better idea. However, from talking to people in Somerville I did hear that they played JCS without their QB and as I already mentioned, they played LC without #20 so it would be kind of hard to get a real read on those games. The little bit that I have seen of both teams though (LC against FA early & a little of the JCS vs. SBA game) this could be a very close game. Lake Co. does have some speed and athleticism. However, I think that the quickest, most athletic player on the field will be wearing #11 for the Eagles.
  13. By the way, I don't think we can consider JCS as flying under the radar. They always get their respect because they are right there year in and year out. True, many expected them to lose to McKenzie but no objective spectator really thought that they would lose to UC. Maybe I shouldn't say "no", there are alot of people on here that surprise me every single day with their beliefs. Anyways, JCS was definately considered the favorite in the first round. I don't believe Eagle fans can pull the underdog card, especially not playing against Lake Co. this week, they are the true underdog.
  14. Oh, so this week we're gonna blame it on turnovers.... Last time I checked you have won the last two weeks and still find ways to come up with excuses as to why they were close games. Are penalties and turnovers not part of football??? You don't have to answer that, I'm worried many of you wouldn't get it right. YES, they are part of football. In case you have forgotten you lost 3 games and finished 4th in your division. True, you are the only ones standing now; but don't come with excuses, be glad that your team is playing good football at the right time of the season and run with it. Your team is very talented and are playing well right now, I'm not gonna lie; I expected them to lose to Fayette and Trinity, and I didn't expect it to be close. I realize now that Lake Co. is a good football team, too bad their fans still find ways to complain. I am scared to think of what it would be like if they would have lost those games. They'd have to reserve an entire forum for LC's crying. If your team has problems with penalties and turnovers then do something about it. True, sometimes its out of control but most of the time you create your own luck. This probably has alot to do with the tackling problems that you have all talked about throughout the regular season. The talent is there, maybe its just a lack of discipline.
  15. LC better watch out. I hear that TCA is gonna have two board members and a lunch lady as officials this week. After the janitor couldn't come through for Fayette, TSSAA is not taking any chances in Jackson. Good luck Falcons in your quest to save the world from the evil zebras.....
  16. So what your telling me is that South Side can't put points up quick and they're small......... Is that what your trying to say?
  17. Well I don't know who number 6 is but I'm sure someone does. Also, I'm sure there not gonna let me, some random guy in Memphis, have any say on whether they should be a christian school or not. I'm just saying that while I was there on Friday night, I was literate enough to read the sign correctly. There are gonna be questionable calls in games and refs are going to make mistakes. I think that on Friday night that the better team won, which more times than not, will happen. However, I have listened to the same crying out of Lake County all year about refs calling games in the other teams favor. At first, I was appauled by it. Then, I looked deeper and realized that there was a major conspiracy by the TSSAA, to make sure that Lake Co. is not successful. I mean, after I realized that; I couldn't help but cheer on the Falcons, I mean how can you not cheer for the guys who are taking on the world, one zebra at a time, single handed. In fact, I heard it was even worse than a grandfather. I heard that two of the refs were graduates of FA and one was actually the school janitor. So I think that LC deserves a standing ovation. They beat the District 8A Champs, biaist refs, and a guy with mop.
  18. OK, just to clear some things up because, as usual, I hear alot of ignorance being spoken after a big game. 1. Fayette Academy is not a christian school. Is it FCS or FCA??? NO. Its FA and unless christian now begins with the letter F or the letter A then it is impossible for FA to stand for Fayette Christian Academy... 2. Very ironic to hear Lake County fans complaining about the refs in a game they won. Especially in a game that they won on a questionable call at the end of the game... 3. If Fayette Academy had a problem with what Lake County was doin on their field at the end of the game, then their players should have went out there and handled it themselves. I don't care if your season is over, you defend your turf... 4. No current player should ever be on a message board talking...IM SERIOUS!!! STOP!!! If you are going to do that, you should just go ahead and give out your name and jersey number for every team you play against to place a bullseye on your chest... 5. At this point I would correct about 37 things that lcfalconfever has said, but I really have other things I need to do today. Actually, I'll just try and make em quick... 6. The curtains were for the performance, the PA guy said that the band was in some competition last weekend and the curtains were used there as well, it has nothing to do with being private. Never heard someone getting upset about a band before... 7. If an adult gets on the field and proceeds to celebrate on another teams emblem, then they do deserve to be tackled as well. Show some class, your the ADULT, which I cannot believe from this post... 8. TSSAA keeps a very close eye on referees and their relationships with teams. They would never let that one slip through. Let me ask you, who did you hear that one from? If that was the case, then why did Grandpappy take the touchdown away from lil Charlie at the end and send his team into the offseason... 9. Which player on FA's team is recruited? I really want to know. This isn't mocking. I'm serious. Which One? Please tell me... 10. I'm deeply sorry for what your player was called. This is the first place that I have heard that and from the stupidity in the rest of your post I would like to not believe it, but if it did happen, then I would like to ask a Fayette Academy fan to please apologize to Mr. Brandon Springer. There is no room for that in this game... 11. I'm tired now and I believe everyone gets the point. I do have one last question though. Does anyone know the status on #20 for FA, the running back, Joe Wentworth. I read about him in the CA last week, go out to watch the kid and he gets hurt in the first quarter. I definately hope that he is OK and I would have loved to seen him play in this one. I know the Viking fans feel the same way... 12. Congratulations to Lake County on a huge win and to Fayette Academy on a great season... 13. Lake County - If you play the same way you did last Friday against TCA, then you will see the same results once again... 14. Fayette Academy - I know the season didn't end how you had hoped but you still get to hang up that banner that says 2006 District 8A Champions...
  19. I agree that 47-6 may be a little bit high, but to come out and say that fayette doesn't realize the speed of lake county is kinda short-sighted. Do u not remember last season or the season before that. I think fayette academy is familiar with lake co. I don't expect this to be a blowout, I think that lake co. is a very good team, and probably the best #4 seed in the state. I expected them to compete with mckenzie this year for the region title. In my opinion, fayette didn't get the pushover that most 1 seeds get in the first round. Don't expect fayette to overlook lake co. or the rest of region 7; I think we all know that mckenzie is for real this year.
  20. from what i read in the paper today fayette has some serious problems on special teams but for the first time since i can remember they are not one dimensional. one thing is for sure......lake co. cannot afford to miss any tackles in this one.
  21. Bruceton lost to alot of teams earlier this year. I haven't seen them play so i'd like to hear from some bruceton fans as to how they turned their season around and what the difference in their team is now that wasnt there early on
  22. yea, i was about to say.........u got a couple games before trinity, including a very good harding team.
  23. Of course there are teams that still have a chance to beat them, including this week against USJ. Sure Fayette is the favorite and I know USJ still hasn't gotten back to the Bruin teams of a few years ago, but is everybody forgetting the fact that until last year FA had never beaten USJ. Should Fayette win? Absolutely. Can they lose? No doubt. I believe that they should be favored to win everygame the rest of the season, but there are still teams who can slip up on them if they are not careful and don't prepare for every game like its the biggest on the schedul. USJ, Harding, and Trinity are all 3 more than capable of pulling the upset so I believe its still a little early to be talking about going undefeated. Just take it one week at a time.
  24. Of course your not gonna speak on this subject anymore because JCS will not lose another game this season; sure you may be 2-3 right now but ur still a very good football team. The early season schedule that ya'll have played thus far is difficult no matter the circumstances, but especially when breaking in a new coach. South Side was not a winnable game no matter the circumstances and DCA was the first game of the season, mistakes will happen. You beat USJ (which used to be a big deal) and you got by the second best private school in Jackson (which strangely enough is now Trinity). You gave a very good and undefeated Fayette Academy team all they wanted on Friday night; and more than likely you'll get another shot at them. True, the early season schedule took its toll on you, but you survived it and placed yourself in position to finish second in the district. However, have you looked at the rest of your schedule yet. Not only will you go undefeated, you'll probably win each game by at least 20. That means you'll finish 7-3 with two of your losses being to teams in bigger classes and the other being by 3 points to a team thats undefeated. If i'm not mistaken JCS was the first team to score on Fayette's STARTING defense this season. Things are not that bad for the Eagles. Furthermore, if Fayette gets past Trinity they'll finish first putting JCS in second. This means, that JCS will probably play Lake County or McKenzie in the first round, both are winnable, with a rematch with Union City waiting in the second round. Depending on how good the north district is, 2nd may be the best place to be. By finishing second, JCS will avoid FA and TCA until the 3rd round when they will play their winner. I know this doesn't take good teams like Union City, McKenzie, and Lake County into consideration but all this is just theoretical. I don't mean do disrespect anyone from the other district. I know that UC and McKenzie have solid teams as usual and LC has a program that is really coming along and looks to be very formidable this season. My point is ballfan25, I think that you are pannicking just a little bit when their is really nothing to be freaking out about. The season will work itself out. Guys like JaxMan who have been representing JCS very well on here for years knows that there is nothing to be ashamed of about losing to Fayette. This rivalry has been very even since Fayette joined the league back in 2001. In fact, I believe the series record since 2001 is FA-4 JCS-3(that counts Fayette's win this season). It can't get much closer than that. This team will be fine and they'll be in a great position to make a run come playoff time.
  25. I agree completely. Throw the records out the window and forget home field advantage when these teams meet up.
