  2. SUMNER COUNTY JAMBOREE August 19, 2004 @ Whitson Stadium Will feature White House, Portland, Station Camp and Hendersonville, plus three freshman games and two middle school games. Click here for schedule and follow link on main page Also on the site above, there are scrimmage dates for White House football and new information for the program coming daily. Just FYI.
  3. Am I the only one that hates the new feature where the individual school names, when spelled out, are underlined to jump to the Coach T site for that team? When you're typing things that don't necessarily have to do with the school but with the city or Community, it gets annoying, as it has in many posts on this thread. We have a thread about websites, but no one has used the http feature in the post options. All of the underlined names go to the Coach T site for that team. Nothing against Coach T, I just don't think it's working as well as the intent. Rant's over, back to websites. thumb
  4. There was a Miller which played football at Hendersonville in the 1990s. He wore No. 8, I believe, and played quarterback in the Wing-T system. He was there when Hendersonville began to build its football tradition back again. I'm not even sure that Shane was his first name. However, he was a decent player, but not the stud he's making it out to be. I think most of what you are getting is exaggerated.
  5. I'll put a plug in for a friend of mine who runs the White House High School football site. White House Football Official Site Incredible information, in fact probably more information than on any website you will find. Stats and history pages are absolutely incredible, dating back all the way to the 1940s. When the season starts, previews, game stories, photos and stats are all updated usually by Saturday or Sunday. 2004 information appears to be withheld...I guess waiting for the offseason to wind down.
  6. These are very unofficial predictions. There is nothing released yet and won't be for a long while I'm assuming. All of these are sorted based on new enrollment figures just released by the TSSAA. Just someone's best guess. The wild card here is teams that jump regardless of enrollment. Trousdale County did a few years ago, sending Smith County, Upperman and the whole load with them to 3A, where they were very successful. That messes up the whole system when that happens.
  7. I appreciate the effort to restructure the classifications, but the Region 4 through 6 scenarios make no sense in this division. Why would the TSSAA, after having a very scuccessful and travel-friendly set of regions in Class 4-A with 5-6, turn around and jumble them as you have it? They had so many metro teams that they split them, and it worked wonders. They were statistically the best set of eight playoff teams in the state for the last few years and provided awesome first through third round games. Someone else suggested that the north/south style is perhaps the most feasible option. White House leaves, but Portland and Beech enter. Springfield stays and so do some of the Clarksville teams. There is your Region 6, maybe with Henry County. Region 5 becomes Metro with Hillsboro, Maplewood, Stratford, Whites Creek, Glencliff, and I say a school like Pearl-Cohn may jump. Wild cards could be Page, Ravenwood and Mt. Juliet, but I think the Golden Bears go east. Region 4 then moves to the Eastern/Southern teams with Mt. Juliet, Shelbyville, Tullahoma, White County and Lawrence County, Page, Hickman County and Ravenwood. Other things: - TSSAA is smart to keep Sumner and Robertson County together. Great gates and rivalries. Sumner is year-in, year-out the best county in the state of Tennessee for football with all its teams combined (check the records). So sending Portland to four and Springfield to six as you mentioned possibly is absurd. - Tullahoma and Shelbyville would love to get away from Hillsboro. A Region 4-5 split would be a welcome site. In fact, metro would love to get away from Hillsboro but it's not that easy. - You have an awful lot of teams in Region 1. I would think TSSAA might shift that around as they have in the past and stack middle TN again. Why they do that, I have no idea, it creates a serious playoff imbalance.
  8. The White House High School football program said goodbye to Burr Howeth today, a long-time supporter of the program and big-time fundraiser for the school, helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the program. Burr passed away Friday and services were Monday morning in White House. Prayers are certainly in order for his family, however with time to prepare, he was able to spend many of his last days with his family, and there is no doubt he is in a better place. I don't want to take too much time on here, but to honor his memory with a mention. We will miss Burr. You can see more at the White House website at www.whitehousehigh.com/football where the main page has been used as a tribute.
  9. According to 104.5 the Zone out of Nashville, the Lipscomb vs. Alcoa game has been postponed to Saturday night at 7 p.m. due to adverse field conditions. Just thought I would pass it along.
  10. It seems there is more behind it. Nothing like football and snow.
  11. Depending your location...the Macon game is also on 102.1 FM out of Lafayette in Middle Tennessee, which covers Macon and Trousdale football, I do believe. That's second hand information, but it's also the official radio for the Tigers listed at the chamber of commerce site.
  12. I wouldn't be so quick to say Stratford can pass the ball all over Hillsboro. You are discounting the pass rush and some pretty quick DBs. Will they be more successful with the pass than the run? Sure...but it won't be a cakewalk. The key to beating Hillsboro is what others have said...plus one thing. Yes, an early lead is needed. Yes, being physical is a key. Yes, you must force them to throw... But most of all, get on the football. Those backs, good as they are, will put the football on the ground, but all too often get it back. Turnovers are big, but even bigger is making Hillsboro pay every time they make a mistake. Something else...make them punt and go after PATs. I sat and watched White House do one thing to them that was brutal, and that was force the kicking game to fall apart. Three blocked PATs, and I believe one was called back on a penalty, and then forced a punt attempt to be pulled down and fumbled before it was ever kicked. Something tells me in a close game, those things will kill Hillsboro.
  13. The current system is a joke for Middle Tennessee. For two years, some regions played seven out of the nine possible opponents in their region with 10 teams, and then starting this year, some region opted to play nine region games, such as Portland, etc. I realize the bracket setup is good for travel in most cases, but seemingly the same teams playing in the second and third round (because it never rotates) gets old really quick. Playing in Region 6-4A, for instance, White House has played Hillsboro, Tullahoma and Shelbyville in three years in the playoffs, Hillsboro twice. A win over Hillsboro would have pitted us against Shelbyville for a second time in three years. Any upsets, and you end up playing region rematches the second and third round. Ten teams in a region is too many, especially in the case of weaker regions in the east and west, sending four teams out of a weak five-team division (see Region 3-3A for instance). Then, in Middle Tennessee, better talented fifth through seventh place teams stay at home, while 1-9 and 2-9 squads go to the playoffs. Realignment is coming, because we and others have shifted enrollment, with Heritage opening. However, one thing I have heard is a possible points-based rankings system, and I'm not sure that is the answer either. One of the fun things about high school football is the fan and student involvement. Putting a bunch of computers at the controls of who is best and who is worst just complicates an already messed up system. The points may be the fairest way to do it -- but I think a simple, fair realignment with the same TYPE of playoff bracket (although adjusted) would be just as great.
  14. Here is the link...their site is not easy to find archives. You have to modify the website address yourself with the date to reach that day's main sports front... http://www.theleafchronicle.com/news/stori...rts/606288.html
  15. Have rules not been modified in each league to prohibit plays like Fumblerooski? I thought an offensive lineman could not advance the football or even touch the ball downfield unless a fumble recovery, but then he could not advance it.. I'm not clear on these rules, but seems like they did something to outlaw it.
  16. I bet no one realizes White House has been in Region 6-4A three years, and if they beat Pearl-Cohn Friday, will be 19-2 in the region in that span, all a step up in class, with two co-championships both lost on tiebreakers, and one second place finish. Quietly consistent. But when it comes to this year's coach of the year? After years of losing...gotta be Macon County. Gotta be.
  17. In 5-5A, Hillsboro is first, Hillwood is second. Shelbyville and Columbia both lost, so according to TSSAA, White County is the wild card to determine the fate of Shelbyville and Columbia. Even though there will be a three-way tie, White County is the man out. If White County loses, there will be a two-way tie and Columbia wins by head-to-head. If White County wins, there is a three-way tie and Shelbyville is third, Columbia is fourth and White County is out.
  18. Here's how 6-4A will work: If White House beats Pearl-Cohn: 1. Stratford (overall record) 2. White House (better region record) 3. Northwest (only team with two losses) 4. Whites Creek (beat NE and Pearl-Cohn, also with 3 losses) If Pearl-Cohn beats White House: 1. Stratford 2. Pearl-Cohn (beat both NW and WH) 3. Northwest (beat WH) 4. White House (only other team with two losses) Thursday's scores: Northwest 65, Springfield 18 Northeast 45, Mt. Juliet 20 Whites Creek 30, Maplewood 8 Stratford 21, Rossview 14
  19. Yes, and he was an assistant under Thomas at Springfield before taking over when Thomas resigned.
  20. From what I have heard and read at various places, Whites Creek isn't out of it yet, either, are they? I would think with six teams possibly facing three losses, they might have a shot. I can't say that for sure...if it's too complicated for TSSAA to figure out, I'm not going to waste my time trying right now....
  21. It would appear that eight teams are still mathematically alive for the playoffs... Stratford 5-1 (no head-to-head with WH, wins with overall rec.) White House 5-1 Northwest 4-2 Pearl-Cohn 4-2 (head-to-head over NW if tied) Rossview 3-3 Northeast 3-3 Whites Creek 3-3 Mt. Juliet 3-3 Maplewood and Springfield are out. White House and Stratford are competing for the title, that's IF ONE of them wins, then the title has to go to one of those two teams. If they both lose, meaning Pearl-Cohn would win at WH, and assuming Northwest beats Springfield, then there would be four teams with two losses -- Stratford, White House, Pearl-Cohn and NW. A complicated region tiebreaker? Or would overall record decide the standings? Then Northwest would be second by virtue of head-to-head over White House, Stratford would be first and Pearl-Cohn fourth? Is that right? Who knows... Then, if Northwest and Pearl-Cohn lose, and Mt. Juliet, Rossview, Northeast or Whites Creek win, you have at least six teams who possibly COULD end up with three losses. In that case, Stratford and White House would still be one and two, because they cannot under any circumstances have three region losses. I would say this is one of the most complicated ones ever. No wonder they aren't done.
  22. I'm sure that Region 6-4A won't be any cakewalk, either.
  23. Just a note for everyone... T.S.S.A.A. is working on playoff possibilities for all classes. As of 10-11 a.m. this morning, at least 1-A and 2-A were posted. There is a link on their home page to the information, it appears they are updating it as they receive them.
  24. From sitting in the stands at White House, I am proud to say we have one of the very best play-by-play anouncers in the state. He is very accurate, knowledgable and knows when to talk and when not to. From looking up, it appears he uses spotters and is very legitimate in his calls. Also very humorous, but picks his spots and never seems to be inappropriate. Also very complimentary to the other team and includes them often in his announcements and humor (getting both sides to laugh). My point is...he is professional. Could it be that many announcers are so unprofessional and so unskilled they have no business in the box -- but because of power, position and fear no one will correct them? I would assume that many PA guys are school officials...and have so much pull or longevity, no one is willing to back them down....
  25. If White House and Stratford both win next week, the following would happen: - White House would finish at 8-2 (6-1). - Stratford would finish at 9-1 (6-1). According to the TSSAA, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head. Stratford and White House do not play. The second tiebreaker is overall record, which would award the region to Stratford. For the third straight year, White House would finish second in the region, and lose it twice by a tiebreaker (also in 2001 to Pearl-Cohn). For White House to win the region, Stratford would need to lose.
