  1. I can assure you very few people in Hooterville are happy with us having to deal with this issue in the first place (never should have happened) much less the way it has been handled. We (as fans) don't get to make decisions about team discipline and who gets to play and who doesn't. We also do not know all the facts, mostly a bunch of hearsay. But I do know this for a fact, there are alot of GOOD kids on this team and at this school. We owe it to those Kids to keep supporting this team through this situation. Go Owls!
  2. Ooltewah actually was without only one player at the Blount game. He was a special team player only, not an O or D starter. The Govs out played the Owls hands down, especially in the second half. The off field incident was a huge distraction the whole week prior to the Blount game. That is no excuse just a fact. The Govs handed the Owls one of the worse defeats I have seen in the past few years that night. I still think Ooltewah is one of the top teams in this region. They are still alive in the region championship hunt. Good Luck to both teams this Friday.
  3. The Owls have alot of depth. They really ought to use it more. Marshall is a great back but I wish we would start getting Polk some carries. You never know when you have to go to your number 2 running back. This Kid could give us a lift every third or fourth series. Marshall took more solid licks tonight than I have seen him take before, I just think we should share the load a little. We need Marshall to stay healthy. We didn't sub our d-line much at all tonight either, Smith and McReynolds played way too much, IMO, to be starting on both sides of the ball. I thought it showed defensively in the second half. We are going to be in trouble if either of them goes down. We need to be using our depth or we won't have any when we need it. Not many teams do well in this region playing guys both ways this much. Hey that fake punt kinda reminded me of Smryna last year, we don't seem to get those situations very well, maybe that one was a wake-up call. Thank goodness for the zebra. Good call by the way, it has to be a direct snap not a hand off from the center. Owls DB's are much improved, Delaney is a real difference maker. Keep playing them one game at a time boys. You better buckle it up when we travel to Billy Blount in two weeks the fun is really going to start up there.
  4. He was not starting on defense, but he was getting playing time on offense and defense. I know he got at least one or two carries friday against Whites Creek and he played several series on defense. How many times have you seen the same starters on a defense keep their jobs for an entire season? Most teams make several adjustments throughout the season. PJ coould have worked his way into a starting role or maybe not, we will never know now. He has been utilized as a punt returner last year as a freshman and again last friday, but I don't remember him actually returning many. Look everyone will be better off now. Ooltewah doesn't need the distraction. I am sure Coach Monroe hates to see PJ go but he has plenty of backs on this team to fill his spot. PJ is a very competitive young man he will compete for PT at Tyner next year, or where ever he goes. Like I said earlier, I wish him all the best. I just think giving up a year's worth of eligibility is a big price to pay.
  5. I think that must have been why he is leaving, last time I checked there are plenty of athletes at Ooltewah, the competition is tough for playing time. I wish PJ all the best. I am not sure there will be enough touches on the football at Tyner either. He is a baseball player also, good luck with that at Tyner. I personally don't see making that move one game into your 10th grade year. Sometimes you just have to wonder?
  6. I would consider the game at Finley. Maybe the only opportunity most of those kid ever get to play on that type of field.
  7. I knew we got beat in the title game. I didn't know the score. Should be a fun season, Good Luck!
  8. "Not so fast my friend", I do think Blount will make the play-offs but I don't see them winning the region. It's not that I don't think they can but look at the five week run they have starting Sept 21st thru Oct 19th. They will be lucky to survive that stretch of games against Ooltewah, Maryville, Farragut, Oak Ridge and McMinn. They have not proven yet they can be a contender for the region crown in Region 2. Playoff contender yes but not a region champion contender. Maybe that changes this year who knows.
  9. Ooltewah gives letterman's jackets to first year lettermen in football. I don't think any other sport at OHS does though. Cost is not that bad $140-$175 dollars each with letter. These are nice jackets with leather sleeves. The players then will add their names and numbers etc. on their own. I don't think many players that have recently graduated will wear them after high school unless maybe to a Friday night football game.
  10. My Take;Farragut, Oak Ridge, William Blount, Ooltewah, and McMinn will be the class of the region. I hope Ooltewah finishes on top but who knows. I think Soddy, Bradley, and Heritage will be improved but I don't see them challenging for a play-off spot. Ooltewah plays McMinn(week 2) and Blount (week 4) fairly early. Those games could tell us alot, both on the road. Farragut, Oak Ridge and Ooltewah don't play each other until the last three weeks of the season which means alot can change late in the season. Blount plays a 5 game stretch against Ooltewah, Maryville, Farragut, Oak Ridge and McMinn, Ouch! Three at home and then two on the road. I like Farraguts schedule as well as anyones in the region. They have an open date between McMinn and Blount, then finish up with Bradley, Ooltewah, Soddy and Oak Ridge. Ooltewah's schedule is not that bad either, I hope they are ready for McMinn and Blount early. Didn't Farragut and Ooltewah play each other in the freshman championship when these Seniors were freshman? Should be a interesting year. Looking forward to some Mario's pizza when we come see you guys in October. Good luck against the rest!
  11. No big deal on this end. It just seems to me people are quick to jump on Ooltewah, for anything lately. I guess that comes with a little success. There are some real good kids at Ooltewah just like other schools. There are also some that could make better choices at times just like other schools too. I also agree with your earlier statement Brady Reed is a fine young man and we are lucky to have him also.
  12. The player is Jordon Simmons, he did come from Baylor two years ago. He had to sit out last year. He is a senior this year and he is a good kid. He did not say or do anything out of line that I saw or heard. I think there was alot more good things said last night than anyone is remembering. Yes, two guys had stuff on that they shouldn't had. But they are kids, even those two did not say anything disrespectful. And all the rest did a good job responding the their questions.
  13. If he is going to try and be the man at Ooltewah this year he better step it up a notch or two!
  14. Pocket Money? over 900K plus 300K or so for college is hardly "pocket money". Kyler will have his college paid for by MLB, he has money for a Vanderbilt education waiting for him when he is done playing pro ball. His choice was fine! The Padres were very please with his progress, in fact the Cubs would not have made the deal unless the minor league player to be named later was Kyler Burke. The Cubs had seen him play in Spring Training as well as scouted him in High School the year before. Sonny is a great player, baseball and football. I have seen him play both. If he could get the same type money Kyler did he would be crazy to turn down as you say the "pocket money". IMO
  15. Red Bank definately looked better than Ooltewah at Finley. But they should, Ledbetter has two seasons as a starter under his belt with two quality WR's to throw too. Benford maybe one of the best in the state, the other guy is no slouch either. Ooltewah still has some big question marks. At QB, Pepping didn't show Thursday(enough said), Brantley and Brady both have their strengths and weaknesses. Still seems to be anyones job that has the leadership to take it. At WR Shumaker, Swafford, Norwood all will be fine, Sammy and Jordan can fly but can they catch it when it counts? DB's still have some work to do. But hey it's real early.
  16. Brady will definately be in the mix but their are three other QB's he will have to beat out. A senior, junior and a soph who led their freshman team to an undefeated season. Competion for that spot just got a little more intense. It will be awesome having that much depth.
  17. Ooltewah was lucky to get the two non region games scheduled they got. No-one that had matching open dates with Ooltewah would play, McCallie, Baylor, Red Bank or Indepedence. All were contacted and either did not call back or turned down the offer. Coach Monroe had some of the same scheduling problems back in his hay days at Cleveland. As of right now Ooltewah only has 9 games for the next 2 seasons. Most all teams in middle and east Tennessee had their schedules completed before Ooltewah finished their season, I really don't think Coach Monroe found out he was going to have to replace Rhea County and Cookeville until it was to late. Something the TSSAA could do the help the situation in my opinion, not allowing teams to schedule out of state teams until all in state teams have had an oportunity to fill their schedules. Red Bank is playing a team from Canada on one of our open weeks, I don't think that should happen. As far as I know they don't even play the same rules in Canada. Region 2 5A is and has been stronger than Region 1 5A! Who has been the Semi Finalist the past several years from the east? Granted they have not faired very well in the semi-final game but Region 1 can't even get there. Look it up! The self proclaimed "Beast of the East" usually doesn't make it out of the first or second round. Who knows this year that all might change but it hasn't happened recently.
  18. Collierville returns almost everyone from last years team. The road to the BORO has to go through them.
  19. The freshman championship was region 2 5A. I would say most of the freshmen will play JV unless they are varsity starters or see significant varsity playing time. Ooltewah still has a few key spots to fill for next year, the biggest qustion will be the QB.
  20. I think the job is wide open. Conner will get a shot, he took more than half of the JV snaps. He did a pretty good job. However, if the baseball team is successful this year he will miss spring practice. He is a pitcher on the baseball team. The other JV QB was not eligible to play varsity this year, Brantley Smith #19. He is more athletic than Pepping, but Conner may have the better arm. The third player in the mix will be this past years freshman QB, Corey Flanders. The freshman team went 11-0 and won the freshman championship with him at the controls. He is probably the best pure athlete of the three. It's hard to start a sophmore and be successful in 5A. I am not aware of any other current QB's in the program. Who knows what or who might show up between now and next season. I think the QB position is their bestest hole to fill for next year. One thing I do know Coach Monroe will get whoever it is ready.
  21. He is unsigned, not sure how much interest he is getting and from which schools. B.J Coleman from McCallie has gotten most of the publicity in the Chattanooga area. Don't get me wrong BJ is a fine QB and I am glad he is committed to Tennessee, but Jeremy is not to far behind him. BJ has started at the varsity level for three seasons. I agree Jeremy should get a chance to play at the next level. The amazing part he had not seen any significant game time prior to this season at QB. He led our freshman team to a Region 2 5A championship defeating Oak Ridge in the Championship game three years ago. This past season was the first time Ooltewah played a JV schedule, so he had zero JV time at QB. He did great job considering his preivious game experience. He will probably be the ace of the Ooltewah baseball team this spring, and should get an opportunity to pitch at the next level also. Following his dad's foot steps at UT Chattanooga is a thought. Maybe Coach Allison has been watching, Who Knows.
  22. #5 for Smyrna caught 3 touchdown passes and had a 18 yard run on a second half fake punt. He was definately a playmaker. Their recievers outplayed our secondary, he beat three different corners on the 3 TD's. Ooltewah receivers dropped at least 6 passes during the game, which was very unusual. a couple were at cruial times. First half score was 21-14 Smryna. Ooltewah's defense did a better job stopping Smyrna in the second half. Their only second half score was on the drive that was kept alive by the fake punt. Ooltewah had apparent TD pass stopped in the second half when #14 was tackled at the goal line by a Smyrna defender, fumbled the ball thru the endzone resulting in a touchback. I have not seen the film, some think he was in the endzone, before the fumble, I am not sure. The Owls also turned the ball over on downs inside the Smyrna 25 in the second half. Ooltewah scored their last TD late in the 4th, Smyrna recovered the onside kick, fumbled on their 2nd play. Ooltewah drove to the Smyrna 30. Last four plays, don't remember what happened on 1st down, 2nd down, QB slipped down rolling away from pressure, had to use last timeout, (probably out of FG range) 3rd down QB got sacked by a blitzing #45, can't believe he didn't fumble, 4th down pass broken up at the goal line, Game over. Smyrna was the best team Ooltewah had played all year IMO. Exciting game to watch, terrible ending to a great season for the Owls. I am very proud of their effort they never quit, played hard to the very end, they just came up a little short on the scoreboard. Good Luck to Smyrna go win it all.
