  1. I have heard nothing but good things about the Smokey Bears team this year, big and strong is always mentioned. How is your QB? The Bears always have a QB that can sling it around. How about your running backs? Looking forward to this Region 1 5A Battle Roll Tribe Roll Giddy Up!! SCHS now has #1 QB back. (Chaney) He split time with #2 (Watson) at Crappy County last week. Played ok considering the 5 week layoff. 2 TD passes no int's about 120 passing yards. Watson didn't throw much but had maybe 50 yards rushing from QB position. RB is by commitee. They play 6 FB/TB. They have a good mix a couple of well over 200 lb. FB and smaller speed backs at TB. Watson when he is at QB also fits into this mix he is very dangerous running the veer from under center and from the shotgun. Not as big a arm as Chaney but he throws well enough to keep a defense from forgetting the pass when he is at QB. Wouldn't be suprised if he played QB the first series. When not a QB he is a dangerous slot receiver. # 7 Feezel and # 11 Pippin are also dangerous at receiver. Feezel's height at least 6-3 makes him tough to cover. Pippin has pretty good speed. Defensively it is essentially a 3-3-5 look. WB and Halls had some success moving the ball. WB gained about 200 yards in the first half of game 1 then was shut down. Halls scored 14 points on a blocked punt that set up a 15 yard td drive and then a fumble at the 20 on the next posession. Halls other td was on a 30 yard td pass on a qb scramble. Halls did a good job moving the ball between the 35's and eating clock. Also that was the 1st QB start for Watson. Since game 2 nobody has moved the ball very well. Granted Karns, S-D, S-H, Seymour and CC aren't the Indianapolis Colts but 24 points allowed in last 5 games is pretty decent. Obviously this game will decide the region. Barring a rash of serious injuries the team that losses should win out and finish 2nd.
  2. Hence forth Campbell County is once again and for the forseeable future CRAPPY COUNTY. What a freaking joke. The radio announcer talked about a "secret weapon" to be unveiled. Two Tight wishbone is the best they can come up with??? CRAPPY COUNTY had 1 first down and 2 thats right 2 points until the game was over in the 4th qtr. Gotta give some credit though Johnson did make a very athletic play on the 51 yards screen pass TD. Enjoy those memories of a first round playoff defeat in '04. The only way that bunch will see a playoff game will be by buying a ticket. P.S. Nice fake punt on 4th and forever with 3 minutes left... NOT. Close 2nd to the final hail mary pass in hopes for the elusive 27 point touchdown. You would have thought Johnson had dropped the game winning pass in the Super Bowl. Just a darn shame.
  3. Fluke or not CC only gets to the playoffs one way this year... They buy a ticket. In region 1 5-A teams like SCHS, DB, Jeffco going to the playoffs is a tradition not a 1 year fad.
  4. S-D gets mashed into the ground... 42- 6
  5. You guys squeak by an 0-5 3-A team and this gives you hope??? SCHS has given up 3 points the last 3 weeks (I know Seymour and S-D aren't the New England Patriots but Science Hill was averaging about 30 a game). If all CCHS can do is run the ball it will be ugly. Good chance SCHS starting QB will be able to play this week. If so this puts the backup QB back at WR. 28-7

    S-D Gets a shutout

They will get mashed by Powell and then Maryville, Central and Halls. Beating Lenoir City would be a good way to end 2005 but I'm not so sure it will happen. Only chance to beat LCHS is if they don't get beat to death by the other guys.
  7. I wonder how long it has been since South-Doyle got a shutout. Gotta be at least 5 years. Gibbs must really be bad to get blasted 33-0 by the Cherokees.
  8. Dude take a pill. IT WAS UNION COUNTY... Not the USC Trojans. Lets see how many he gets next week vs. a 5-A TEAM (SCHS).
  9. Charlie 5 How could your son have more coaches (3) but really 2 since Chandler was only an interim coach than years in high school??? That made no sense. Even if he is a senior and you count Chandler he could only have 3. Face it S-D hasn't been any good (except for 2001) since they had pretty good teams in '92 & '95. Are there some atheletes on campus that would help??? Sure but if they won't play what in the heck is anyone supposed to do about it. You can't make them play. Bear Bryant couldn't take the current bunch of Cherokees and win. They just don'y have many players especially up front. Losing Lightfoot (a guy with some skill) doesn't help either. If you are not very good up front it really doesn't matter how many skill players you have. Science Hill is a good example of this. They have good skill people but are very suspect on the line which allowed SCHS to piledrive their QB all night. It was the same thing last week vs. S-D. Only 3 miscues inside the 15 kept the score from being similar. You gotta face the facts. Gibbs is the last realistic chance for a win in '05 and it won't get better much in '06 when Stevenson will be gone. On S-D's schedule there are 4 realistic chances for wins. Carter, West, Clinton and Gibbs. If they split those in '05 that will be improvement (if not very small) over 2004.
  10. THIS IS THE THIRD EDITED POST-Enough with the language, you're not representing your teams too well. I don't want to close the thread because it sounds like a good game but it's getting ridiculous.
  11. On Doyle and South-Young Doyle was good at a couple of different times. In the period 1976-1980 3 7+ win seasons 1 6-4 and 1 5-5 but played in old district 3-AAA with Farragut and OR. Then from 1981 to 1983 3-27 including a 26 game losing streak. In 1984 10-1 district 4-AAA champs lost to OR 21-14 in playoffs. 1985 6-4 missed playoffs. 1986-1990 5-5 seasons with 1 4-6 season. 1991 combined with South-Young. SY was good first season 1977 after South and Young were combined. Mostly a 3, 4 or 5 win club from 1978-1990. As SDHS pretty good seasons in 1992 (playing in AA), 1995 and 2001. Other years pretty mediocre 3-4 win seasons mostly. Except for 1992 playing in AA with 1400 students nothing past 1st round of playoffs. In '92 made it to quarter finals I think. No real tradition at SDHS and digging it out of the hole Swafford put the program in is a tough task. Moving down to 4-A might make more sense money wise but not any sense football wise. SDHS has 1 win and a chance for 1 more with Gibbs. Still 2 wins would be better than '04's 1 and '03's 0.
  12. About a month ago they were tooting their horns about tying (in a scrimmage) a 3-A team (Knox Catholic) and making predictions about how the days of blowouts were over. Well low and behold little has changed. 0-4 record outscored 133 to 18. For those not good at math that is an average of 33 to 4. That to me sounds like blowouts. And with Farragut, WB and OHS still on the schedule more "blowouts" will follow.
  13. So Speed Kills... Sure when you are playing people that can't line up it is easy to avg. 400 yards a game. SCHS is better than people give them credit and they do have the same key coaches from the deep playoff run in '97 and the 5-A title in '99. Science Hill has a few good skill players but they are too much of a finesse type team. SCHS stuck it right down their throats especially in the 2nd half. The score could have easily been 35 or 42 to 3 since SCHS had 3 turnovers inside the 15. Topper fans got to caught up in smoking inferior opponents and starting talking trash. WB runs a similar spread offense and has far more dangerous skill people than JCSH. WB only got 14 points so this was no real suprise. After seeing what WB did against OHS that win looks better and better. SCHS may have a real chance to compete for first place in region 1 since the starting QB should be back before the DB game. If not first then 2nd place is very likely with only Jeff Co. in the way for that spot. CC and Bearden will be wins unless disaster happens. Big win for SCHS especially after the injury to the starting QB in week 0. His return to QB and Watson's return to WR only makes SCHS stronger.
  14. HERITAGE FANS... Face the facts. You have not scored a point against the two good teams you have played. OR is certainly better than Farragut and is as good as Maryville. DB only got 3 points on OR. It will be a miracle if HHS makes a dent in the scoreboard. You guys have a shot at 4 or 5 wins but don't have illusions of grandeur. Feel good you won't have another 1-9 season.
  15. Who has Heritage beaten??? A mediocre 3-A team (Seymour) and a historically pitiful 5-A team (CC) and then got blasted by Farragut ( and who thinks they would hang with Maryville). Heritage might have a chance at 4 wins since it appears McMinn & Bradley just plain s u c k . OR, Oolt, & WB look unlikely and Soddy is a maybe at best. 4 wins would be a good year and 5 would probably mean a 4th seed in the playoffs. I still gotta bet on 4 at best until the mountaineers play someone decent a good game. MHS 31 HHS 6
  16. Pretty soon you will need a gold bar to buy gas.
  17. S-D's only hope is that the bus with West starting lineup runs out of gas (not so unthinkable after Katrina) and they have to play their B-team. Getting smoked by Carter does not bode well for the Cherokees. What will Central, Maryville and Powell do. Answer about anything they want. West is not in that class but it will not matter.
  18. Where has all the horn blowing went for the Bradley fans ever since that 14-14 tie with allmighty Knox Catholic (yeah I know Catholic is 2-0 but we will see if they are contenders or pretenders soon enough). I guess the news of OR's 74-0 win over Clinton shows that tough times are ahead. Heck even Heritage is 2-0 (although their luck will probably run out at Farragut). Just remember Bear fans you still get to play McMinn Co. so there is hope for 1 win.
  19. Nobody in south knoxville is deluded enough to be the author of this post. By the way "Peter" love your "work" in the adult movie business. You really give all you have in every scene.
  20. SCHS starting QB did hurt hand vs WB backup QB (Watson) will start doesn't throw as well but is a much better runner of option game. Also its not like he never plays (starts at WR). He played some QB in WB game before QB injury. SCHS gameplan will be altered somewhat to play to his strengths. SCHS "D" was shaky during 1st Qtr. vs. WB but played pretty well afterward and I'm sure WB has more weapons than Halls. Could be a low scoring game which does give Halls an edge with their kicker. SCHS gets an advantage in that they have played a game vs. 5-A talent (though coached poorly on defense) and have a pretty good idea on what they have. Halls deserves their props on the DB scrimmage but the others aren't exactly the monsters of the midway. Scrimmages aren't the real thing and 1st game mistakes may be the final intangible that gives SCHS the victory. In about 26 1/2 hours we will know.

    Govman's Game Gab

People always complain about the refs yada, yada, yada. Just remember SCHS doesn't use Sevier County refs they use refs from the Knoxville Association which does probably 15-20 games every friday night so its not the Mayor's son-in-law or something like that. Blount County on the other hand has a very small association that calls games in Blount County where more than likely the ref is from that county if not that community. If WB or any other school that doesn't use refs from the knoxville association feels that they are being "torched" in Sevierville then they must also think they are getting it in Knoxville as well. If you think there were bad calls get Mr. Genius oops I mean Coach Meadows to let you watch the game film and if they are there let the TSSAA know. Maybe someone can give the Gov DB coach a few pointers of how to defend the Flag Route and the Wheel Route as well. I still wonder who was being loaded into the ambulance just outside of the visitors gate about 7 minutes after the game ended if it wasn't Osborne.

    Govman's Game Gab

Osborne got hurt early in the 4th quarter on a sweep ( kinda easy to to figure he might get the ball when he goes in motion and gains depth) he went down and left the field after a couple of minutes and did not return. As I was leaving I saw an ambulance loading a football player (unless my eyes were deceiving me) and the person was in obvious pain. It was dark and I couldn't see his face clearly but it sure looked like Osborne's body type. If I'm wrong I appologize but that is what I saw.

    Govman's Game Gab

On the Scoreboard malfunction: Apparently the new scoreboard (after Pepsi removed the previous board after only 4 years) is controlled wirelessly. It works fine until the wireless sideline to pressbox coach com system is turned on then it goes straight to heck. This problem wasn't any real surprise it happened when everything was tested before the game. Just wasn't enough time to fix before the WB game. I guess Coke will have to do something before the next home game. I knew a WB fan would say something about the refs but the most backbreaking call against WB (the clip on the punt return for TD) was clearly correct. The thing I question about WB was why in the heck did they show the spread shotgun version of the Wing T at the jamboree. It gave Kenny Ratliffe a whole week to gameplan against it and after his D adjusted to the speed of WB it was shut down. Then it seemed Meadows junked the spread and went back to a more traditional Wing T approach which if you don't give long runs to Walker and Osborne just isn't very effective. AS for the WB defense or should I say lack of Defense when Steve Brewer and Tony Linginfelter realized that WB didn't have a clue how to defend the flag route and the wheel route it was just too easy. If not for a couple of overthrows and or blown blitz pickups the Bears would have had a couple more easy TD's. I think the worst thing for WB is that the 3rd team QB for SCHS got the Bears into the end zone for the clinching TD and is really only capable of running 2 - 3 simple running plays. This loss does not bode well for WB especially if Osborne's injury in the 4th quarter is serious in any way. Gotta wonder if the hot seat is once again warming up on county farm road?
  24. MOfo Look at catholic's schedule. A-E, Smith Co., Fulton, Anderson County. If they win ONE of those games it would be a small miracle. The jump from from where they have played in the past to 3-A is huge. If Catholic had a roster of D-1 talent like Alcoa then a big jump would be no problem but this is Catholic. Opening with a 2004 3-A semifinalist took either guts or stupidity. As for the Bear fans keep on drinking the Grape Kool-Aid it did wonders for the followers of Jim Jones. Ohh, and one final thing if you get beat 35-7 or 70-0 what is the difference?
  25. VolTN Since I would be the "Idiot" you are referring to the answer is no. I'm from Knoxville and I don't really gove a darn about Bradley. Never seen them in Basketball and most probably never will. I just thought it silly that some "homer" was tooting his horns about a "tie" with a school that at best will go 5-5 in 3-A ball. I will make this prediction for you right now. I don't know who Bradley plays in non region games and I don't really care. I do know who they play in region 2 5-A. I see no more than 2 possibilities for wins. OR, Oolt., Soddy and Farragut are losses. The only chances for wins are against McMinn, WB & Heritage. I'm gonna say WB has too much Offense ( but not much defense) so that leaves Heritage and McMinn. If i'm wrong feel free to start a post when/if Bradley wins against a 5-A playoff calibre team. Otherwise take a chill pill.
